Dmann's Seen Tonight's ER!!

Published at:  Mar 28, 2002 10:33:42 AM CST

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am -
Hercules!!

Can you resist the Goo Goo Dolls promos touting Greene’s final storyline? Things have been hopping since Peter Benton bolted: Abby’s evil neighbor, a vengeful Luka, an ecstacy overdose, an empowered Jing-Mei, Kerri’s love life, the returns of Big Susie and Jerry, and a dying Mark have Herc again riveted to the antics of Country General.

And tonight, focus trains again upon Romano!

Here’s a scoop from “Dmann”:

”Bygones”

Heres what TV GUIDE has to say:

Romano forces Corday to work in the ER, where she begins to realize that Susan may hold the key to her estranged husband's disturbing behavior.Weaver tries to keep it together after Lopez is reported to have been lost in a school fire. A pair of college students are rushed into surgery following a knife attack on campus that hits close to home for one of the County staffers; and Abby settles into life at Luka's while she searches for a new home.

It's time to start winding up the season, which means really getting into Dr. Greene’s various family and health dramas , this week. Dr.Corday is still living in a hotel, with the baby, while Dr. Green gets clumsier living at home, with his older daughter. He’s trying to act as though he is fine, yadda yadda yadda. Corday finds out that Greene is still undergoing tumor treatments for the big ol lump in his cranium. The scene after she finds out, when they actually discuss it, features as much silence as dialogue, and it reminds me of a real couple, fighting, yet being civil. The whole advertised story in this episode packs a punch, emotionally. Romano doesn’t just force Corday to work trauma, he harasses her about her relationship, chastises her for the most retarded things, using words that are quite medical and hard to understand . Later, he drops the facad of being a big old jerk, and shows up as a human being, giving advice to Elizabeth, good advice, being a friend. (weird)

The stabbing victims are extremely gory, theres several scenes that are definitely not for the faint olf heart. Lots of blood, lots of gasping for breath. It seems like it is going somewhere, but then, just peters out.

Theres also a plot with a women’s basketball tourney player who has to decide between ball and her sister’s life, and Peter Scolari in a plot about a child who is undergoing a “re birthing” procedure, a plot that was on Law & Order a couple weeks ago.

Great little scenes with Dr. Carter, who seems to be getting a break from the big plots this week. As good as Noah Wyle is, it's still good to see everyone else get a chance at some screen time. A

The pacing is off, there is a LOT of stuff going on in this episode, scattered about here and there, lots of medicne, some personal stuff, a good balance of the two, the episode just has no movement, no energy. It plods from plot to plot. Once the episode gets into the story with Dr. Corday, (yes, it's VERY much her episode) it takes off, the emotional pace going good, yet keeping it in situations in and around the hospital.

The Kovach/Nurse Abby plot is…. A scene, that’s it, nada, nope, zip. It's not bad, it's not good, it's really short, blink and you will miss it. Likewise, the stuff with Weaver and Lopez is pretty slim too, but it has a more fun ending.

No word on whether Jerry was the big man in the leather outfit admitted to the ER last time the show was new. He wasn’t limping or anything, so…

Over all, a nice little episode, the emotional core carrying some other elements that were a little brushed aside.

    Hello

    by vibrocount

At least they are writing something interesting for the actors. I found myself looking away every time Abby was on screen for a while -- the worst being any episode with Sally Field.

The multi-plot confusion seems more like I expect an ER to be...

I'm not happy with the way...

    by cappybeara

this show is going. If I were writing this stuff, I'd have Corday die instead of Greene. Is it just me, or has she become a whiny bitch since getting married. Shw was much more fun when she was seducing Benton or Green a couple years ago. And if Green bites it , it should be in the arms of Susan. Give the long time fans the ending that was so built up when she left the last time.

    Paul McCrane Rules!!!!!!!!!!

    by kauzi sezso

More focus on Romano! Paul McCrane is just too much fun to watch as he plays all facets of the best character on this show! And hey, Dmann -- It's "Kovac", not "Kovach". Check out ImDB, or start watching with the Closed Captions on.... Firefly out!

    I am not happy either...

    by led gopher

I just don't want Mark to die, it isn't fair. Can I at least have Jing Mei come over to my place to comfort me? Seen as how she turned down the Grooselug (sp?) in the last new episode that aired, she must be free right? Am I the only one who caught that? I mean Groo was there right in County Gen. wearing almost the same clothes he had on when he left L.A. with Cordy. WTF! How does that guy get all the hot women? OK OK OK, I understand, it's not real, he's just an actor. Time for me to go take my fan-boy pills.

    No, you're not the first

    by ms. martini

People have been all "hey, did you notice that was Groo, cause I did! HA! I am great you guys!" for weeks now. So knock it off. And the rebirthing thing was done on CSI months before Law and Order did it, and CSI did it better. Can't these guys come up with something more original? How many times do we have to watch regurgitated versions of this crap?

I hate that guy with a passion. But it'd be a shame to see him go, because I love to hate him so much... ;)

    1) ER is a major bummer, but I end up watching anyway when ther

    by village idiot

    1) I think it's been said before that Anthony Edwards is the one character who has been shat upon since the show started. For him to die like this is the ultimate shat. And since we the viewers identify him, it feels like we're getting shat on too. Don't we deserve more? I mean, come on, we stuck through the show through the useless "live episode," didn't we? And this is the thanks we get. And somebody get Chris Sarandon on the horn and tell him that his "miracle surgery" didn't turn out so hot. 2) Paula Marshall is very pretty, but the trouble is that I constantly get her mixed up with the actress Sarah Paulson (who in my mind is most notable for playing the freaky sister in American Gothic, Shaun Cassidy's underrated thriller-TV show). 3) I just can't make front squats work. Sure, they're supposed to force you to use better form, and give you better "sweep" (uh, yeah); but by the end, I use so much effort keeping the barbell up, my legs are the last thing to get worked. And the cross-handed technique? Awkward and painful. Screw it, I'm going back to regular squats.

    where's the Survivor talk back?

    by jethroc

What the hell happened tonight anyway? The Moramu gang should have gone head to head with john! i'm with you about doc greene. It's time to go, doc. But get your last dibs with Susan, not corday. corday is just too domineering to want to live with her. i wouldnt mind seeing romano shag her tho. i'm going to miss rachel tho. they need a nice new intern on the show. Remember the good early shows with carter being the dumb new kid?

Wasn't that FRANK in the leather?

    by no-op

Sure sounded like him and was about the right size. It may have been the same actor, but the Frank character showed up immediately after without indication of injury. JERRY is too big for the leather man, and didn't sound like him either. Maybe they are just having fun with us and the Frank actor's prior life as a pro wreastler (true).

    I feel sorry for D'Mann

    by voice o. reason

Herc gets to review cool shows like Alias and Smallville, while D'Mann gets stuck with ER and Dark Angel. What next, Dawson's Creek previews? Friends? EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND?????

ER already had the ending I wanted

    by solrider77

Solrider here. It's sad to see ER go down the tubes like this. Personally I think the show was at it's best during the first two seasons, when there were no real bad guys. Weaver and Romano dragged the show into mediocrity in my opinion with their cartoonish villiany. But then again I don't watch the show anymore cause the ending I wanted already happened. For me ER ended with the episode where Hathaway ran off to Seattle to be with Ross. That was the perfect finish for the two characters I cared the most for. As far as I'm concerned ER's over now. Anything else that happens is just beating a dead horse.

If this was BtVS, they would have shagged a couple of times in the ER and OR.

BtVS is now Buffy the Vampire Layer. Seriously, that show sucks big time or what?
