Wanna see a really raunchy RULES OF ATTRACTION trailer that the MPAA would never let you see'

Published at:  Mar 24, 2002 1:32:36 AM CST

Harry here with Roger Avary's latest teaser trailer for RULES OF ATTRACTION. Now this isn't the trailer you'll be seeing in theaters... hell, we wish to god we all lived in a world where theater owners and communities realized that there are adults in this world and that there can be entertainment aimed at them, that should be advertised in a manner that is indicative of what they would be getting into. But that's crazy talk right? This trailer kicks testicles into pony tails... Enjoy...

Hey Harry,

Roger Avary has been kind enough to post the new teaser for his Rules of Attraction. This is one of the best fucking teasers I've ever seen. God bless Roger for figuring out a way, as a filmmaker, to circumvent the MPAA.

Where's that dickhead that compared Avary to Kubrick?

    by cash bailey

A rip-off doesn't instantly make it worthy for comparison. BTW, finally saw BATTLEFIELD EARTH today. I think BATMAN AND ROBIN is still safe as the worst movie ever made, but BATTLEFIELD EARTH is a very close second. Mind you, it was most educational. I never knew that a 20th century nuclear device the size of a small keg could demolish an entire planet to dust.

This trailer is pretty Fucked up. Van der Beer as a tough guy? And Is that guy with the Beard that Punk from American Pie?! No one's gonna beleive that little wank can grow facial hair. Oh yeah, and the first half of the trailer looks like Some Alterior reality, College/Sorority, Eyes Wide Shut. The only redeeming aspect on this whole Biznatch is that 1/2 a second clip of Shannon Sosamon or Shannon Soshamon or Shmannon Sosashon, or Sammy Sosathong, or Sheena ShimmyShong, or Shaucy Shishkabong. Whatever, that Girl from A Knight's Tale. Besides that, it looks pretty Dysfunctional, and I'd only see this if I was Really Drunk or Really Bored. And I don't drink.

    Red-Banded Trailers!

    by chicagofilm

Huh? Harry is way-off here. The MPAA approves red-banded trailers which theatres can show to adult audiences. This would fall into that category and could then be shown. All of the major chains here in Chicago show red-banded trailers. Since there is an easy process for them to make it approved, could someone explain to me how the MPAA is "preventing" us from seeing this as Harry claims?

    by keifer815

It will be interesting to see if this movie differs from the book as much as "Less than Zero" did. Hopefully B.E.Ellis takes a little more interest in the film and makes it at least a LITTLE similar.

very Kubrickian trailer (in a good way)

    by tall_boy

that was pretty cool. They should stick it infront of "R" movies. Is Tara Ried in this? the only reason I'm asking is because I think I might have seen her eariler in it and that later on it might have been a full frontal nudity shot of her in a black mask. horray!

    Harry is hardly anti-MPAA

    by sanc_reunion

How could he be, being the studios' plaything, and all? He's just starting the long, arduous pimping process of yet another average/bad movie to the "internet demographic". Ooh, look at this trailer! It's soooo anti-Establishment! It's forbidden fruit! The mean ol' MPAA would never let you see this bad boy! It is edgy and cool and I WILL TYPE ABOUT IT IN ALL CAPS AND USE EXCESSIVE PUNCTUATION TO DESCRIBE ITS GODLINESS!!!! This trailer redefines the genre of movie trailers and if you don't get a tingle in your genitals when you watch it you don't deserve to ever use your eyes again!!! God bless Roger Avary! His directing style is like a good jail-felch! Etc.

    A Possible Why

    by scottra

My guess would be the shots of penises with extremely advanced cases of venereal disease.

Not that noticeable but I was a little freaked when I was "rewinding" the trailer and it stopped right there....

It seems the MPAA always balks at the use of a shlong, let alone in a trailer!

    What?

    by magnoliaman

I desperately want to like this film but, from what I've seen so far, it's hard to see any substance whatsoever. Is this movie simply a continuation of the American Pie movies but with more gratuitous sex and violence? Is that supposed to be bold and original? I doubt the filmmakers' intent is this shallow so why are they generating such shallow, lowest-common-denominator trailers? SEX! VIOLENCE! DAWSON! SEE IT! Is that it? Can somebody who's read the script please fill in the blanks.

    by jeichstedt

Am I the only one who thinks this site promotes the theory of raunchy = quality? Granted, the Powers That Be have a tendency to block any kind of innovation, but it's gonna take more than the promise of nudity and lots four-letter words to get me to part with my hard-earned cash. I didn't see anything of interest in this trailer I can't already find in my Clockwork Orange or Natural Born Killers DVDs.

    by keyser195

    ...there are no rules!

No, but seriously, despite what looks like a healthy dose of inspiration from "Fight Club" in the visual style (or maybe that's just this trailer), this hopefully will rule. Ellis is, after all, one of my favorite authors.

BTW I still don't get the fascination with Fight Club. The first hour or so was dead-on but it seriously melted down by the time it ended. What a let-down. It didn't have the balls to push further. I am serious. I know people think its the greatest film ever, I think its silly.

What is it that they're trying to throw at us here? The highschool movies seemed to have graduated into adulthood judging from this movie. Or are they all the same? Anyways, this doesn't look all that shit hot, the gross venerial diseases were sick, like come on that was gross. lol The T&A was nice but like the one guy said, if Jessica Biel lets loose that would be nice. Otherwise whats so stellar about this? James Van Der Beek doesn't help it any thats for sure.

Avary has ripped off Kubrick. The last shot in the trailer has a character with head bowed and eyes rolled up. Used in almost every Kubrick film. Kidman in EWS. Nicholson in The Shining, and McDowell in Clockwork Orange. Homage!??

...but for God's sake, GET LAID! Thinking that trailers like this are the harbingers of great films is sad. Clear your head before writing, or at least read your copy and set it aside for a day, and then read it, before posting. This is getting embarrassing.

    by ashfett

Just had to back up what Chicagofilm (I hope I'm rembering the sn right?) said... Harry is just wrong here. The MPAA sure would approve this trailer... as a Red Band Trailer, that can only be shown with R rated films. I see em all the time here in LA, though usually at the art houses.

    by citydoglax

If you are going to judge a movie by its trailer - you're not much of a critic...

And to say that he ripped off kubrick is lame - the word is homage.

I've read the script and its fucking tight. And to judge Avary on Killing Zoe, which was done way too long ago, is ridiculous. He's doing some great things here with an almost unadaptable script and crazy in camera techniques...
