Quint has tracked down John Conner in T3

Published at:  Mar 22, 2002 6:58:31 PM CST

Hey folks, Harry here with a strangely aroused sailor by the name of Quint. Nick Stahl is a fantastic actor, but the problem I have is imagining him turning into the guy we see as John Conner in T2. Maybe its just me... but personally I would have cast John Sayles, and just made this one be an adult John Conner. But that's probably just me. hehehehe...

Ahoy there, maties... Everybody's favorite crusty ol' seaman here with some Terminator 3 casting news...

Word has leaked to me from inside the T3 innercircle that they have finalized casting the role of John Conner. You guys might remember Edward Furlong's departure from the film a while back and apparently there has been a bit of a rush to find someone to fill his sneakers. Who is it?

None other than NICK STAHL of In the Bedroom and Bully fame.

That's a pretty big departure from Edward Furlong. We know Stahl can act, that's for sure, but is he right for the role? I'm curious to see what Mostow has found in Stahl, what he saw in his past work or in auditions for T3 that makes Stahl a leader. Does Stahl have what it takes to stand toe to metal toe with the machines? Could you see him duking it out alongside Schwarzenegger to obliterate Skynet? I'm curious. Not convinced, but not against the idea. What do you folks think?

-Quint

Personally I think Nick Stahl is hotter than Edward Furlong!!! Anybody have his number for a burgeoning ol seaman like me?

Because the movie is shite. He decided not to tarnish his reputation by being seen in what will doubtlessly be a car wreck of a movie. Terminatrix? Arnold being back after he went through all the trouble making sure the future was destroyed at the end of part two. What was the significance of him melting himself down, with the dramatic music and the kid crying, if we were just going to do this in a few years??? Utterly stupid. Next up, "Old Yeller 2 - You though that bitch died didn't you?" Crap.

Say what you will about MTM but DePalma would be interesting. Who the fuck am I kidding? Without Cameron theres no use for it, it would be like Lucas giving SW to John McTieran or Star Trek to Rick Berman. Too late. And Cameron is coming in a few weeks to direct season finale of Dark Angel, I am gonna go see if I can talk to him. LOL I showed up on set one day with a Maxim and they let me walk in to get Jessica Alba's autograph.

T3: We Are Doing Tis For Mo'Money

    by electric_monk

While Nick Stahl is an interesting choice, I cannot see the reason for T3. But, you know, that's Hollywood for ya. Bleed everything dry. I heard this is going to cost about $175 million to make!!!And Cameron is not behind the camera. Jeebus, you think people would stop thinking with the freakin' dicks and start producing better "new" movies instead of going to well so many times (though, I'm still looking forward to AOTC). Arnold is just doing this to keep Maria in dresses. What the hell does he need to do this for? Then again, his last few flicks are just plain stupid. True Lies 2 with Cameron may be the only reason to do a sequel. But, then again, Cameron hasn't done shit since Titanic, at least directing anyway. Still, don't you think Nick will show everyone else up by his acting? Arnolds not best actor and the chick playing the female Terminator -my guess she can't either. Well at least the didn't go with Shane West. While the kid from Once and Again is nice eye candy, Nick is pretty and can act, so that's one up on West. Oh well, T3 will make money, I just don't see the logic about making another retred. Does anyone know why?

Mind you I don't watch Once And Again but I hear he gets rave reviws. Just cause you ugly people are hideous does it mean you can trash any attractive actor/tress' abilities. I remember when Leonardo was still growing in Gilbert Grape and Boys Don't Cry or whatever that people said he would be next Brando and as soon as Titanic made him a star you all diss him. Fucking people, I did watch Walk To Remember and Shane West was pretty good with hints of growing better. BTW I only watched that film cuz Morpheus allowed me it to be free and I love Mandy Moore. And in othe fantasy casting news, Van-Damme has been given the role of Rudy Guiliani in a big biopic written by Akiva Goldsman and directed by Tom Green. Mirimax is predicting Oscar gold. ...but i have a tendendancy to screw up actors faces, and sometimes names. For the longest time, for some reason, I though Brad Renfro had played John Conner (and was not the kid from The Client). When I saw Bully, I though Nick Stahl was Renfro because, well, he reminded me of John Conner from the T2-3D ride at Universal (also played by Eddie Furlong). Then I realized who was who and what was what, and was suprised that Stahl not only wasn't Conner, but hadn't been in anything else I knew. And now this article is transforming my confusion into some kind of Muhloland Drive-esque loop. And, is Quint gay? (not that there's anything wrong with that)

    Stahl to rev up T3?

    by milktoast

Nick Stahl is a great choice for the role. Yeah, I can get used to him taking over for Furlong. I am more wary of T3 being such a bad idea, especially without Cameron, that any sort of quality going for it is a good sign. You don't get much better than Nick Stahl when it comes to young H-wood. New of that West kid doing the movie had just confirmed every fear I had of T3 being straight generic.

Mostow hasn't made a solid movie yet. That submarine movie was dumb -- though Breakdown was quite effective. The problem with that was simply that it lacked its own identity. It wanted to be other movies that already existed. Same with that submarine movie when you get down to it. A lot of director like that..trying to get that magic Lucas/Spielburg cutting out the best parts of movies and using them for their own films. The thing was that those guys had flair and made the movies distinctly their own. I hope Mostow is about to do that here. Not an easy trick anyway especially on the second sequel.

Del Toro sure did it with Blade 2. Just came back from seeing that motherfucker. Much fun with that one. Had trouble getting into it at first because a bit much with the cgi action. But after that it was cool when Kristoferson and the other characters came into play. I'd never seen the first Blade, so maybe that's why I wasn't invested in the film right off.

How about an unknown for John C. like Anakin?

    by miami'scanadian

Furlong was unknown when he got casted in T2 and basically the only charisma he showed was of the whiny, stoned kind. Stahl was cool in Bully but why not get an unknown since they're replacing the writer, director, producer, lead female, bad guy/girl. It's Arnold's vehicle after all, no one cried when the actor who played John C.'s father didn't come back.

I don't know if plot continuity was their highest priority on Disturbing behavior. I don't think the parents would have been turned into zombies anyway, Greenwood and co. were only after teenagers. Anyway in an interview with Scott Rosenberg in a screenwriting magazine he said that the director David Nutter took entirely the wrong approach to the script and was treating it like some kind of socially conscious documentary when Rosenberg had intended for it to be nothing more than a trashy, fun B-movie teen horror flick, written before Scream ever came out. If you listen to Nutter's commentary on the DVD, he is a bit, well, nuts, he's taking the whole thing very seriously. Anyway I enjoy the hell out of that flick, it's just very funny. Yeah so Nick Stahl, I wonder why he was never in the running for a best supporting actor nod for In the bedroom, he was effective in his scenes, and if Marisa Tomei is nominated, he should have been too. Oh well it looks like he's getting his rewards anyway, bet the T3 paycheck ain't too shabby!

Yah I hate it when people try and make movies to be socially meaning. Like if someone says 'The Rock' or 'Con Air' was stupid well its an action movie meant to entertain and they both did it by being cheesy and fun. It takes more talent to entertain millions of people than to impress some snob critic who hasn't gotten laid in years. Maybe that's the reason Cameron isn't directing a film soon in fear of not living up to his hype. BTW, if anyone knows when he's flying into Vancouver to direct Dark Angel let me know, I I know Lita just got a role and is coming in to the airport March 21st.

John has a MAJOR part in this flick from what I know, though, and maybe they didn't want bank it on a crack head (which, if you think about it, makes good business sense). But, heck, I thought he was pretty good in "American History X" too and he musta been stoned when doing that flick! ah well, here's hoping T3 is ok (but with NO fucking CAMERON those chances are lower)

    by druckin funk

I signed up for talkback just for this- People are complaining about Arnie being too old, but try and follow my logic: Most Terminator fans agree that the T-800's body was based on a real human soldier right? Well, the 'rise of the machines' was originally supposed to take place in 1997. But the events of T2 have obviously pushed back the apocalypse by a couple of decades- so the soldier that the T-800 was based on would be OLDER when he is captured by skynet and used as a template. Capiche?

You people have selective memories. The Terminator was only one of a slew of futiristic bollocks movies in the eighties (great innovation there) Terminator 2 was the the product of man who watched Die Hard a few hundred times.

By adult you mean an OLD John Connor

    by drath

Why are movie geeks so fixed on having "manly" movie heros? ARNOLD is the manly hero here, not John Connor, and two would cancel each other out. I think keeping John Connor in the Luke Skywalker school of youthful heros is still appropriate. He is the hope of the future, tomorrow's manly hero. And so long as Arnold is in the picture, John Connor will not be the Russel Crowe-style ass-kicker he is supposed to become. Frankly, I think Terminator has played out, and the real reason everyone wants an older Connor is because they want to see the full blown war with the machines in the future--something I doubt will ever take center stage in a Terminator movie. For the record, I don't think Cameron has anything more planned for the Machine War than what we saw in the flash-forwards in the last two movies. If you want to see a man vs. machine war, rent old Captain Power episodes or wait for the Matrix sequels. I don't think Terminator will be covering new ground.

    by seanmiller

Not casting Furlong is the best move I have heard yet about this bland film. Without Cameron and his eye for the big picture, this movie doesn't stand a chance of being remebered after its gone. The one shot in T2 that is my favorite is the opening shot of LA on the freeway with all the traffic. I think that shot sums up everything about Cameron and his Terminator vision. And no one can forget the music. The score really made both films, especially the sequel. If they are keeping the same score for the third, then maybe it has a chance of being more than a waste of time. (Blade 2 rocked!)

    by the founder

I like the terminator franchise as much as the next guy, but the studio has to see this isn't a great move, I mean paying Arnold 30 million up front?? WTF???
I just don't see this being successful, it'll break even more then likly, or have a small ass profit margin, or even worse they lose money. Unfortunatly I'm going with them losing money. A 175 million price tag, with probably 50 million in advertising=225 or highr total budget. I don't see this flick raking in 300 millionin the US, oh hell I don't know, maybe it'll do good, but Warners should funnel that 175 million into an Authority movie, at least it's something freash , and no one's interested in a Batman flick, and their's no way in high heaven that'll get a Superman movie right. Warners has a stable of Comic concepts to draw from, and Marvel is churning out some decent flicks. Oh well at least Warners has the Blade franchise.

    A Real John Connor

    by kylefan

Well Nick was in Disturbing Behavior right? he is ok. But I spoke by phone with Lisa Beach who did casting for Scream 3 and we compared Nick to Kyle JM Thompson. I think Kyle looks like Nick. And if Kyle was a well known actor he would have had Nicks part in Disturbing Behaivor. In fact Lisa mentioned in about 5 years Kyle could be acting better then Nick is. For now sure Kyle could play John, he may not be that good at it so thats why they may not think of him as the first choice. So maybe he should be Johns friend. Like how John had a friend in T-2. One thing either way... Kyle will be stealing scens no matter who he plays in T-3.
Kyle is listed on the IMDB.com and you can learn more by checking out

Hey, all. Notch Johnson here. B.J. Cummings is nearby, polishing my Woody, which I'm gonna drive all night. Anyway, Nick Stahl is a great actor, gang. Check out 'In the Bedroom', I've seen it twice. Of course, it's Sissy Spacek and Tom Wilkinson that are awesome, but so is Nick. In fact, his understated, casual nature is a brilliant counterpart to the increasingly heavy tone of the film. As for "Disturbing Behavior," the movie is so-so, but Nick is great in it. (The DVD is terrific, one example of a DVD making an average film experience good.) Anyway, Notch out. Check me out on FX Network. Hopefully, you'll see Danny Bonaduce, the gay kid from 'Who's the Boss', and Rerun from 'What's Happening?' on the Beach this year.

    Stahl and Krav Maga

    by alec cawthorne

Nick Stahl is a very good actor. He has been a very good actor since he was 14 years old, when he made Mel Gibson look like a good actor in 'The Man Without a Face'. Hopefully this film won't be completely horrible and ruin his career.....that is assuming that this post is actually accurate and really came from "inside the T3 innercircle".
----To the poster above who incorrectly (and rather sensationally) said that the woman playing the Terminatrix is training with "Israeli Death Squads": She is actually studying Krav Maga, which is the primary defense tactic taught to the Israeli Defense Forces (because it emphasizes hand-to-hand combat over the use of weapons). The discipline is not exclusive to Israelis, though. It can be learned at various places in this country, just like many other more unknown martial arts. You can learn a bit about it online, as well.
---If you watch the FOX television show '24', we might be seeing some Krav Maga moves by the guy who plays the CTU worker, Tony Almeida (check out his profile on the website).

I'm afraid this movie is going to suck

    by mithril

Nick Stahl, great fucking actor. So why the hell is he wasting his time with this sorry-ass movie? Sure, big budget and lots of publicity, but come on... And yeah, Furlong is no stranger to drugs, but that don't make him a bad actor. He isn't exactly Oscar material in T2, fine, but the guy was 12 and had never acted in his life. He wasn't a child actor or anything. But just look at his performances in any of his later movies: fucking great! Furlong didn't get fired for the drugs. He just thought the sequel would suck. So did Linda Hamilton, which is why she won't be there either. And no Cameron. How come I think this movie will suck donkey balls? Krav Maga will not save it. Hell, they had Krav Maga on VIP, and that stunk to high heaven (and mostly of silicone). ***Oh, and VViper: I definitely missed Michael Biehn in T2, and so did a lot of others. Hell, they even scripted and shot scenes with him, but didn't put them in the film. Dammit! The biggest loss of T2: that they didn't shoot that future scene with a grown-up John and Kyle. Just the script of it (available on the T2 ultimate edition dvd) has me in tears. And you saw Skynet and the time machine, for fuck's sake!

anyone else think Chilli Kramer is a plant?

    by sammy_jankis

Sorry, Chilli, but you have to have someone else bring this up. You can't just call yourself a plant. This movie will kick RGTSLK's ass.

This movie makes me REAALLLY nervous

    by savinifan77

I don't know, I'm just getting bad vibes about this. An Alien 3 kinda feel to it. Wish they would have left good enough alone, T2 was a masterpiece....wish Arnold would just forgo this possible shitfest and begin work on the Next Conan film.
