Wanna see BLADE 2 fairly friggin early'''

Published at:  Feb 20, 2002 3:08:05 PM CST

Hey folks, Harry here. All you film geeks out there... folks like me and maybe even thinner... This is the heads up for you to learn the who, what, when and where of the unveiling of BLADE 2 from Guillermo Del Toro.

Coming Saturday, March 16th to the great old dame of a theater, in glorious digital noise making, on a magical silver screen that played DRACULA on its original 1931 engagement, will be BLADE 2! We've heard fantastic reviews from test screenings of the film. Folks heralding the glorious wonder of the action and the scares. Proclaiming Ron Perlman as the god of cool we all know he is. The trailers have actually been getting better as the film gets closer and closer. The website was even cool, and that never frickin' happens. Movie websites usually blow kernals of corn and bile, but with all that Mignola and Bradstreet art and the melodious voice of Del Toro.... fun! I just hope they put up more art and more commentary.

Now, BLADE 2 has been chosen by SXSW to be the closing night film of that film festival. Guillermo will be there to present the film, and only he knows if anyone else may arrive (keep your fingers crossed).

Bloody fun in a classic theater! I'll see you there... put more metal in your face, baby powder your skin, black shoe polish your hair, get some ribeye blood to rub round your eyes, put in the teeth caps, lick and stick your vampire clan tattoo, get out your sword, the patent leather overcoat, the Doc Martin steel toed boots and let's have a gothdamn good time.

The screening takes place around 7pm or so Robogeek tells me, he also wants you to know that admission will be first-come, first-served. SXSW Platinum, Gold and Film
badge holders will receive priority seating, followed by SXSW Film Fest pass
holders. A limited number of $6 individual tickets will go on sale at the
Paramount Box Office 15 minutes before showtime. Click here for more information about how you can see this movie and more!!!

Just because you did not like Blade does not mean that it was a horrible movie or that no one wants to see a sequel. From work to school I have run into people that are psyched to see this movie. So shut the fuck up and go listen to your Nsync records.

Blade was a horrible, horrible movie. Some people think that by saying the word "popcorn" all the flaws of an inane, scriptless, CGI-intensive pile of dog shit can be instantly wiped away. These people are mistaken.

    by bigw

Was it high-art? Cinema-verite? No, but it was a fun movie, and it delivered what it promised: a bad-vampire hunter hunting some badass vampires. And believe me, I'm one of the last people on this site to forgive crap like Mummy Returns, Womb Raider and friends by saying they are just "popcorn" movies. Blade did have a coherent plot, even if was not particularly inventive.

    by truman_burbank

Wow, twice fristed in one day.
Anyway, what is the big deal with Blade 2? Why does everyone at this site act like it's going to be GOOD? Didn't the first one suck more ass than Alan Ball? I mean, come on... Wesley Snipes? Probably the worst actor of our generation (Chris Klein and Keanu Reeves included). His whole "bad ass" thing is about as intimidating as a gay bunny rabbit, and went out way back at Passenger 57. I mean, the guy said, "Always bet on black". Cheesy lame and racist. Is there anything worse? Doubtful.

    by charles grady

In a previous BLADE 2 talkback, I posted, like the guy below..."Who the hell has been waiting for a BLADE 2?" But stranglely, this trailer and the TV ads seem to get a really good response from audiences. I can't believe I'm retracting what I said before, but I actually think this will be a hit. But how? The first was fun, but I didn't realize it had any cult beyond its comic books fans. To me, it was cool but completely forgettable. Have people REALLY been re-watching BLADE since 1998? I can't imagine ever watching it a 2nd time, though it's not a bad movie. Oh, well. I guess there'll be an ART OF WAR 2 in 2004. But at least Wesley isn't working for Elie Samaha this time. But as for the guy below, there IS a sequel to VAMPIRES in post-production as we speak, and it's directed by Tommy Lee Wallace and produced by Carpenter.

    BLADE II

    by batman_9

I think this movie will be very good. I was very impressed with the first one. You say just because its based on a comic doesn't mean it'll be good...I agree. After all, that piece of sheet BATMAN and ROBIN was based on a comic book...but the difference here is that BLADE was treated with respect and the powers that be really understood what fans wanted to see. I believe the same will be true for BLADE II. By the way, anyone know why the subtitle isn't on the posters or the trailers? Has it been dropped?

Blade - All that and a bag of blood

    by drvital

It's strange to see a movie that so totally fulfilled what an action/comic book move is and should be get treated so badly around here.
Blade was a nice new twist on the vampire myth. A (mostly) coherent plot, decent pacing, and excellent visual design. It captures the feeling of a modern comic book: Edgy, adult, violent, but a little garish and flashy at the same time. Anyone else care to write about how and why they feel a certain way about a movie? Being a critic means being able to articulate what makes a piece of creative work good or bad in the context of what it was trying to be. Shooting off your damn fool mouth about whether or not you "liked" it just makes you sound like a jackass.
    Hee Haw!

    by hunter-x

What's up with all you whiny bitch boys? Do you fools not know a good action movie when you see one? What the hell are you expecting? This will be a adrenaline filled, blood bath of ass kickings. The first Blade was good. It actually followed the comic book very closely (origin wise), but delivered a new, entertaining story. I really wish you little girls would throw out some examples of your idea of a good action movie. What would it be? Peter Pan? Charlies Angels? Back up your bitching is all I'm saying. If you don't, you're wasting our time and space. Word.

if everyone had the same opinion and echoed Harry's ejaculatory praise for every lump of shit Hollywood churned out. I'm sorry if certain of us are killing the buzz with our, like, negativity, man, but Blade was boring, insipid, CGI bullshit. It was just slightly less offensive than Spawn. I don't expect a lot from movies like this, but I'd like a little creative verve. All Blade brought to the table was murky lighting, inane dialogue, and action scenes that were like watching someone else play a shitty Playstation game. I'm not faulting anyone for looking forward to the sequel-- for all I know, it'll be great. I just can't imagine getting excited about it based on the strength of the original.

    by jtylor

Even if none of the hip-hop was actually in the movie. I mean: "Pump Panel" remix of New Order's "Confusion" (the music over the bloodbath rave, the scene that made me go: holy fuck! They got it right!), Junkie XL's "Dealing with the Roster" is the actual fight scene music, then there's Deacon Frost listening to Photek's sterile, hard-as-hell jungle while letting his PowerBook crunch the ancient vampire symbologies... Damn. I might actually have to watch this movie again! ;) Cheers y'all.

Who the fuck wrote this article again? Ned Flanders? No "rippers" or whatever will be nearly as terrifying as a "Magic- The Gathering" crowd fronting as vampire slayer or vampires. That's the funny thing about goth. Nothing's hotter than a girl with a tight bod in misery and black makeup, but girls that are hot are very often not driven to make such anti-social cosmetic statements. And guys who are built like Messr. Snipes only dress like that when they're getting paid verrry well. Vampires are on a liquid diet, kids. If you're going to pretend to be one or a daywalker, at least look like you scavage for blood and not fry vat grease. Out. P.S. Beetlejuice as PocketBlade in Blade III!!!

    When did Vamps

    by 2gold

Only become part of the Goth world? Goth people need to get a hobby (oh wait..it is there hobby..never mind). I read Vamp books, want to see Blade 2 and I am not a goth. Please, Goths have about as much to do with Vampires as people in Atlanta have to do with professional sports. Seriously goths, Vamps have never been brooding suicidal maniacs so lets quit giving them a bad name. And when did dressing all in black make you a goth? Or make you depressed? Was Reeves a goth in Matrix? No, so let us quit giving the Goth world more credit than it deserves. It's the color of death, you know being sad about it and NOT HUGGING IT you Goth idiots! Geez, purple wasn't in use why couldn't you use it ?!? I have nothing against Goths it's just that some of them are like unsuccessful poets, political activists, or computer geeks. All I have to say about Blade 2 is at least it will be better than that crap being called Resident Evil. So where am I going with all of this? Please quit associating the movie BLADE 2 with the Goth world when it belongs to the COMIC BOOK GEEKS!

The reason it's more wrong to call people from Texas fags than Psynapse to call people retarded is that to call people retarded (while it still is wrong) is to do it in general. You are saying every person in history who was born in Texas is a fag. There is a difference. Oh, and maybe you should pull out your pocket dictionary and look up "fag". Oh, and look up "mature" too, because I wouldn't expect you to know that big word seeing as how you are the opposite of that word. what?? soundtrack to BLADE sucked...

    by phasmatrope

I don't know what these people are talkin' about, the soundtrack album for BLADE was an insult. All kinds of great electronic music in the movie, only half of which was left on the soundtrack release in favor of a bunch of generic rap music. It just goes to show how stereotypical and racist Hollywood is in its marketing. What, they figure that just because a film features a black character it's natural that the soundtrack have a bunch rap music? What's up with that?? Nonetheless, the soundtrack for this next one looks cool, as does the movie. I don't wanna hear from these BLADE haters; it's got to be one of the best comic-book movies out there (next to the orginal CROW), and also very entertaining.

was an entertaining movie, It packaged the images, sounds, and a okay story line well enough to make you dive into it's world for a couple of hours. It's one of the top 10 comic to movies adapations out there. i kinda don't understand how so many folks hates blade on this TB and extoles the virtues of X-men. it's pretty much the same to me...
and as far as the best adaption , hands down it's THE CROW, it's too bad BL is not with us, that role was gonna be the turning point of his career much like HJ's Wolverine and VM's LOTR role..

    Blade 2.

    by albionknight

Why do people have to be so foul mouthed. Seems to me that people aren't intelligent enough to get their point across without swearing.

As for those who try and compare the original Blade with cgi fests like Mummy or Mummy Returns are missing the point. The actual film contained very little CGI compared to 90 percent of current blockbusters. What it did contain were characters that you cared about by the end of the movie and a small but atmospheric and effective story which ended in a clear and satisfying way.

It wasn't trying to be shakespeare but turned a Z list superhero from a forgotten comic, (Tomb of Dracula) into an action franchise for the 21st Century. Personally I can't wait to see Blade 2 and I am especially looking forward to Wesley Snipes take on my favourite black superhero, The Black Panther. If you haven't read the comic then I recommend it. It's a political thriller crossed with spandex covered with a fine layer of well crafted comedy. Read the latest issue you won't be disappointed.

Bye for now. (people let's try not to be so personal and abusive from now on. After all the reason we use this site is because we love films.)
