Hey folks, Harry here.... El Cosmico managed to capture the footage showing behind the scenes of THE MATRIX 2 tonight off Entertainment Tonight. We've got it in two formats, BIGGER and smaller... Choose you're size carefully. Looks like they have decided to do a little Spartacus action crossed with Matrix fu this time out. Looks cool...

    Um, Spartacus?

    by derubermax

Must we always compare something we like with a Stanley Kubrick production? This reminds me a bit of the article about Paul Anderson of *ahem* Resident Evil infamy talking about how his film was like a Stanley Kubrick production. Well, Kubrick it ain't.

So this movie IS actually being made?

    by poshkittykat

No truth to the rumour that the Wachowskis have spent the post-Matrix years lighting expensive cigars with $100 dollar bills?

"How do you sleep at night?"

"On a big pile of money, surrounded by many beautiful ladies."

    "Works for me."

Unless you'd like to see something with geeee .... I dunno ..... a little depth. BTW speaking of "Attack of the Clones" how many more Matrix-rip off movies are we gonna see?? I can't even imagine how many lame ass "bullet time" sequences I've seen since that movie came out. Someone send a memo to the Wachowtski's (or however the hell you spell their name) and tell them ti find a new snazzy effect for the second film and this time don't premiere it in a friggin Gap ad. I mean that seriously! That bullet time is almost as overdone as the CG in in a George Lucas movie.... YEAH ..... ALMOST! Right back ta yaz! :D

The clip didn't reveal much to my eyes, except to say that, yes, this movie will be released. The clip may seem premature, but with the delays I think this is a good move. Also, this may have been reported before, so forgive the possible redundancy, there appears to be a new comic strip at whatisthematrix.com. At least it was new to me, and everything I like about The Matrix.

. . . to quote a peer. You could always email, BTW, just by clicking on my nom de plume. It's a hotmail account that I use when I post on sites like this, but I do check it from time to time. I recommend you do the same, if I get where you're coming from, and I think I do. Most AICN talkbackers I find to have an appreciation for diversity of opinion, but then there is that minority that sends you viruses and other sundries if you mention the word Christian." My thoughts on where the series is headed is just speculation, and I would much rather be surprised than suss it out. But for what it's worth . . . here goes. The Matrix, like the original Star Wars, while it borrows from Christian doctrine is not exclusively such. Star Wars had a neatness in the redemption story and a nice three movie arc. For the Matrix, anything goes. It's a grab bag of everything. The most Christian elements in the first, were messiah prophecy, sacrifice, resurrection and faith. I would expect to see one of the major characters die for the salvation of the others. Morpheus, as the John the Baptist/herald figure, is the most obvious choice, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's Neo. Someone's going down though. Although the chronology is juxtaposed, I'd love to see the Matrix equivalent of Neo tempted by Satan in the desert. After all, he has absolute power in the matrix, so the temptation exists already. The love interest would be more interesting if it remained chaste, but I don't think the dictates of Hollywood will permit that. I would expect dissension when Neo goes to Zion and doubt about whether he truly is The One. Like I said, it's hard to make any kind of accurate guess with this franchise, I wouldn't be surprised if Zoroastrianism winds its way in there. One thing you can count on though, like all enduring myths, Good will triumph over Evil.

    by sicuv uyall

So, did u Star Wars fans out there really like the Phantom Menace more than The Matrix? Let's compare...
The Matrix --- one bad actor: Keanu,
Phantom Menace -- 3 bad actors: that kid, Jar Jar, and any other cartoon character they tried to pass of as real.

The Matrix -- a good script, great action scenes, and new inventive special effects.
Phantom Menace -- boring script, good action scenes and cartoony effects.

    Other Christian archetypes

    by doubting thomas

I'd missed the Morpheus/John the Baptist connection, but I certinly see it now. In addition to the Cypher/Judas role, do you see any others? Is Trinity a Virgin Mary type, or is there another meaning in the name? You seem to imply a "maybe." I find your insights helpful. By the way, I also do the hotmail thing after I received various hateful and pornographic images. I sugest all others in the closet reading this follow that lead.

But the thing is, we're all geeks here - by definition. And that means that we are pretty much all going to see AotC and TTT and Matrix Reloaded and Blade 2 and Spider-Man, and about 100 other films besides. Because only by seeing these films do we have the right to engage in debate about them and rubbish the people who prefer one to another. So quit with the "My franchise is going to be better than your franchise" trip and just wait for the films. They'll be good entertainment if they come anywhere near form, and there's no point in predicting form at this stage. I for one am looking forward to them all. Even AotC.

    by twan_deeth_ree

What the hell is with you hatas? Every damn person I know loved the Matrix. It was a blast. I'm not a big Keanu fan (except when he's playing idiots: Parenthood, Bill and Ted's), and I thought he was great in this. The classic Campbell hero (sorry Mark Twain, it's not originally a Christian myth, those themes preceed Christianity by about 4,000 years - see ancient Sumerian and Babylonian mythology) is supposed to start out as the everyman who discovers his destiny. Keanu pulled off the reluctant, bumbling everyman quite well. I, for one, am very excited about this movie, and remember, you can't complain about the bullet time and wire-fu, because these guys did it first. That would be like complaining about hearing the Wall at a Pink Floyd concert.

Matrix was never that incredible . . .

    by horrorfan

The bullet time was cool, but i'm sick of it after seeing parodies in scary movie, kung pow, and countless commercials. The idea is basically a modification of concepts brought up in Dark City, and the characters can often come off as stiff ('specially Neo, Tank, and Dozer). That said, it's got some great action, and a respectable amount of mythology and religion thrown in. The film I'm most looking forward to is probably The Two Towers, but AotC, Spider-Man, and Matrix Reloaded come up close though. Come on, there's never been a better time for movie geeks.

Doubting Thomas and a nod to TDR

    by mark twain

Trinity doesn't draw exclusively from the Virgin Mary so much as she is a composite of Catholic references, the most obvious being the name Trinity (which the Virgin Mary is not part of). I'd throw in a bit of Mary Magdalene as well. She can only love the One, but it's not yet clear that the One will love her back. Neo never returns Trinity's obvious affection, it'll be interesting to see what happens in the sequels. Lucas understood the theme pretty well, although the sibling thing was a little clumsy. TDR, I agree some of those archetypes predate Christianity, how they're flavored tends to indicate the source. I've said before the Matrix is a glorious hodge podge of different influences, Christianity (and particularly Catholic Christianity) is one of many. The names of the characters were given to suggest certain allusions. Agent Smith is the generic face of evil, Morpheus brings people out of sleep, Cypher is just that, Tank and Dozer . . . you get the idea. And no, I don't think Switch is bisexual or a problem batter for a pitcher. Back to you Doubting Thomas, there is an overiding Calvanist thread of predestination. The Oracle is never mistaken, just misunderstood. When she tells Neo he is not the One, but is waiting for another life, she's being genuine. Neo has to die first, then be reborn. It is then he becomes the one. Now if the sequels continue down this road, we will see the antithesis of Neo at one point, a mirror image. I don't want to say an Antineo, because that just sounds wierd.

    by billy talent

Reviews frequently mention Kubrick because almost every contemporary filmmaker, particularly those in the Sci-Fi/Weirdness/'Cool' genres, borrows a fair bit from the man. I can't think of a movie I've seen in the last year, good or bad, that owes nothing to Kubrick.

    Lannister - info on Tank

    by twan_deeth_ree

He's not dead, just not going to be in any of the sequels. He requested a higher salary and equal billing as the four primary actors on all the ads and posters (Keanu, Trinity-can't think of her name right now, Hugo Weaving and Lawrence Fishburne). The Wachowski's (sp?) and the studio didn't want to meet his demands - thus, no Tank (I'm pretty sure there's a new actor taking his place, though). Check out the Matrix Reloaded page on upcomingmovies.com They've got some further information and links to an internet campaign to keep Tank in the series. It's a great site also, for any of you folks interested, the best movie news on the web - after AICN, of course.

Interesting. But this is just a teaser to keep our interest. I'd love to see what's really going on, why it takes so long to make the movie--I'm sure there are good reasons, it's a complicated production after all. I'd love to know if these sequels will be, you know, GOOD or if they'll be more of those "oh why did they mess with a good thing" type deals. Do the villains get interesting or will they be the same scary but personality-free Men In Black dudes again? Are the characters going to continue to surprise us, or will they be watered down versions of themselves? Do the themes still work after the first film, or are they just recycled over and over again(not that that wouldn't work, I guess). I guess the spot worked, it teased me and now I want more. Gonna have to forget about it again and let the movies sneak up on me. Between Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, I'm sick and tired of being excited about moview slated for release in a year or more. Life's too short, you know?

I still find it amazing that Lucas has somehow won so many of you fanboys back after that shat fest that was the Phantom Menace. Not a 'bad' film, but piss poor when stacked against the original 3. Yet, all of the fanboys have somehow forgiven Lucas, and now come into the Matrix threads with their assinine comments like:
"i for one am looking waaaay more forward to Attack of the Clones than Matrix: Reloaded or Two Towers."
I am not even sure what that means. Here's a thought...Who the fuck cares what YOU are looking forward to? Why can't some people be looking forward to more than one film? Sure, I am looking forward to the Twin Towers too, but shit man, let us Matrix people alone...we haven't had a scrap of news since 1999! (not counting that wierd stuff from Oakland last year).
All I know is, if the W. Despite being an enjoyable, but preposterous mishmash of the Bleedin' Obvious with a slightly insulting central premise (the notion that humans would make efficient batteries, that placing them in a computer-literate timeframe would be a good idea, or that keeping them mentally alert would be at all necessary... all Grade A horseshit, let's be honest), the Matrix was greeted like a philosophical epiphany, wrapped up in effects that are now commonplace in commercials. Neither of these gimmicks will sustain two sequels. What have we to look forward to that wasn't left to the imagination at the end of the first? I noticed someone said that by the time they make Matrix 3 they won't have any money...I actually worked as a precision driver on the 10-week shoot in Alameda, CA where they built a mile and a half long freeway set on the old Navy base. It was a $30 million dollar set and the amount of people they were employing every day must have taken quite a big budget BUT all the filming is for both Matrix 2: Reloaded and Matrix 3: Revolution (as with LOTR, filming sequels simultaneously seems to be the new hot idea) so whether or not #2 does good the third one will already be in the can and I think the plan is to release them a year apart.

I mean this guy can stop bullets but he can't like use the force and tear the guys arms out of the sockets or bend the swords. Just seems stupid. ITs like hes the same neo before he could stop bullets again.
