XXX Trailer Online!!!!

Published at:  Feb 02, 2002 12:13:39 AM CST

Harry here, with the latest thing that wants to knock shinola out of James Bond. TRIPLE X aka XXX. There's a lot of vitality to this film from the look of the trailer... It looks and feels fun, not tired. From some of that pre-production art we've seen around the web, the cars are hotter... less retiree banker looking, more like hot shit badass looking... ya know? And quite frankly Vin Diesel is the man! He would knock poor Pierce's head clean off, of course Connery would've knocked his poor beautiful bald head through a concrete wall and into a bale of hay... But ya know, I hope this movie is the total package. It could be awesome! Let's hope.

Bond might be in another lull right now, but let's not get carried away, Harry. This movie will no more usurp his throne than did Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Style and class are timeless; wicked ink and X-treme sports are, I dare say, not. I somehow doubt this franchise will still be going strong thirty years from now. Or even five.

Vin Diesel has massive potential, for the very reasons the guy above postulated upon. He appeals to just about everybody; he's one of those guys that just seems very cool in a real way. You watch him on screen and a part of you wants to be him. And that's really what draws you into an action movie -- that vicarious experience. I mean, I could completely imagine myself having a beer with Vin. And I do believe that equals box office draw. He's someone who you *want* to see kick ass, and action sequences are so much better when you're involved in the people on screen. Take early John Woo pictures -- what makes those 45-minute action sequences at the end of "Hard Boiled" and "The Killer" so exhilirating is not only the kick-ass action, but the fact that you really want to see those guys onscreen succeed. They've made you *want* to invest the emotional involvement that raises those action sequences to a higher level. And for that, you need only need good directors, but charismatic actors. Chow Yun Fat, Vin Diesel -- two very diffeent people, but they both carry that "everyday guy" likeability.

    by butteredelkmeat

I meat to say, "not ONLY do you need good directors". And also, while not everyone is like Chow or Vin, everybody *knows* somebody like Chow or Vin. That's where the "everyday likeability" comes in.

    by alec cawthorne

-----I'll be the first to second the notice of Asia Argento in the 30 second preview. Good move on the part of whoever cut it together to include her.
I too will be going to see this film, not for all the redundant explosions, overabundance of weapons, Sam Jackson's sleepwalking through his yet another bad MF role, or its inclusion in the newly formed 'Vin-Diesel-in-a-car' genre, but for the wonderful leading lady that will hopefully be gracing the (American) screen more often with her prescence after this film makes its profits from its already guaranteed audience.
-----Oh, and maybe Scarlet Diva will FINALLY get a Region 1 DVD release!? PLEASE! If only the European disc had English subtitles for my pathetic uni-lingual brain......

I think Vins a good actor....but he looks like a poser in this flick. Put him in something classy like a Ronin type spy flick. Now that would be cool. But thats just me. I'm sure this thing will make a ton of dough luring in the fast and furious crowd...but its not gonna replace the Bond franchise....no matter how stale its become.

    Diesel vs. Connery

    by bgw claw

Harry, just because Connery's Bond movies are considered the best, does NOT mean he could handle Vin Diesel in any way. VIN DIESEL WOULD FUCK SEAN CONNERY UP, in his prime or otherwise. Diesel Rules. XXX will be great. Connery as Bond is overrated. Brosnan rules.

    by uncapie

Vin's a pretty tough guy, more of a "Red Grant" type. I'd say evenly matched with Michael Madsen. But, Connery is a lot tougher. I've met Connery three times in my life and he's got a grip that could tear your arm from its socket. He also beat the crap out of Johnny Stompanato on the set of "Woman Of Straw" and the Stomp was no creampuff.

    by cash bailey

Listen to his PITCH BLACK commentary if you don't believe me. He totally steamrolls over the director, pointing out all the things 'wrong' with the film and what he would have done to make them 'right'. Twohy just sits there in silence, like he's learned over the past few months how to deal with the guy.

    Reply to Talkback

  • Okay, after seeing TFATF, I know Verhoeven can direct pulse-pounding action flicks. Hopefully he has learned how to recognize when the script is shit. Haven't seen Pitch Black yet, but Vin shows potential from what I have seen. As it's been said, hopefully he doesn't turn out to be a dick.

Couple of things: Vin Deisel used to play Dungeons and Dragons. That fucking cracks me up, because I would really hate to be the dungeon master for him. Vin: I open the door. DM: You see a treasure chest. Vin: I open the chest. DM: The chest was trapped. Vin (very menacingly): No...it wasn't. DM (pausing): No, you're right. Inside is a Holy Avenger with your name engraved on it. Heh heh. Also, does anyone else think that with blue contacts and hair Vin would make a good Conan? I've been reading Robert Howard's Conan short stories lately and I can almost see him playing Conan. He might have to buff up a tad bit more, though. Still, he has the "bronzed chest" and "iron thews" that Howard was always carrying on about.

Take away the typical stuttery, manic trailer editing and you can see there won't be any fun in this movie. Just less than pedestrian moviemaking from a guy who couldn't improve on a no-budget stuntcar movie from the 70's with 60 million bucks and a warehouse of talented cast/crew.

... I met him at Fangoria promoting Pitch Black, and he was the most gracious and friendly celeb that I've EVER met at a function like that. If he bitched during the commentary of Pitch Black, then that was strictly as a filmmaker himself, and that makes Twohy a much better filmmaker himself to listen to some constructive criticism.

    by godoffireinhell

As much as i like Vin Diesel i just dont see him as Hellboy. And Guillermo del Toro (who will direct Hellboy if it ever gets made) agrees. In the 12/2001 issue of Fangoria he was asked about Vin Diesels involvement and this is what he said: "The ideal Hellboy for me is Ron Perlman. I will never, ever think otherwise. If i do it with anybody else he would have to be really good. But the ideal Hellboy, the man who was born to play that role, is Ron Perlman."

This movie looks like it could definetly give Bond a run for his money. the bond films have gotten to formulaic and with stupid plots that are both seemingly simplistic yet hard to follow. this movie looks hip, fresh, and with some great, innovative action. vin diesel has proven (especially in pitch black) that he's kick ass. as far as vin being a prick, i dont know, on the commentary for pitch black he seemed like a nice guy but wasn't he fired from reindeer games for allegidly being a major asshole and pissed off the director for refusing to wear a tank top?

    by kampbell-kid

I'm a sucker for eye candy action films that are fun. This trailer shown nothing new or exciting tho... it just looked like a video resume for a stuntman position. BLAH blah blah... :) Ouu, wow, look I can have a cliche shot used more than twice in the trailer of the hero in the air on his motorcycle with a explosion behind him. Never saw that before! Tons of guns and old mustang cars. Wow, never saw that before! I can drive a car off a bridge and jump out of the car... wow never saw that before!! It looks as bad as Rollerball. Why do studios further waste money on trite projects... they should all do checks after pre-production and if the film project dosen't look good, trash project. A film like this takes up an extra multiplex theater space that a better film should be in. :)

You have GOT to be kidding... Lets see, a professional "athlete" with some obvious body tattoos that has had his face plastered all over news, radio, and TV... An "Extreme Sports" athlete that is - in all likelihood - internationally known. That would be as intelligent as making a big name player in a professional sport(Brett Favre, Kurt Warner, Picabo Street, Kristi Yamaguchi, etc) an intelligence operative. I am SURE that there is a reason for this, Some GOD-AWFUL plot device that will justify this, but it is too much of a stretch for me. A major government sure as hell does not need a commando or an assassain - they already have those. They ESPECIALLY do not need someone that is already known to a good portion of the planet as a secret agent. I like Vin Diesel, he is not a bad actor - in what little I have seen him in (Pitch Black, Saving Private Ryan, The Fast and the Furious) - but this was not a good choice for him. It will be another Summer action movie - low on plot, low on concepts, high on Special effects. It is James Bond for the "MTV/Mountain Dew" crowd. No, its not "hating on the brotha," it would be a bad concept no matter WHO was in it. Its just not a good movie. One of those examples of when bad movies happen to good actors. *** Vin Diesel does not have "everyman appeal" - he does NOT look like the everyday guy you see on the street - unless you are at muscle beach.
