Paul Verhoeven discusses the concept of revisiting ROBOCOP!
Harry here... Having Paul Verhoeven and Ed Neumeier working together on a new ROBOCOP with Peter Weller would just be surreal as all hell. Personally, I don't know what I think about this, there's the part of me that wants it left alone, but the otherside that would love to see him tackle it. It'll never happen, but tis fun to contemplate...

interviewer: Did you know that Robocop fans are getting an internet petition together demanding that the film either be remade or reprised, but only with your direct envolvement?
Paul Verhoeven: (totally suprised) No.
interviewer: would you be interested?
Paul Verhoeven: Let me tell you something. About four weeks ago I was having lunch with Ed Neumeier, writer of Robocop and Starship troopers, and during our conversation we got into Robocop again and we both felt that it would be interesting to do something again, especially that we are now 15 years later nearly in time and a lot of things have happened to the American economy, the American military, politics and whatever, and I think you could do another fruition, but I would not redo the first one, I would probably do a sequel, the first real sequel. Both of us thought it would be very interesting, so I think if the internet petition were to go to MGM studio that might help.
Interviewer: Well as an extra incentive Paul, we asked Peter Weller if he'd be up for it and he imediately said yes..
Paul Verhoeven: (enthusiastically) Oh, really, he did? Well, yes,I think it should be Peter Weller, but he would have to be resurrected, like he was asleep for so many years and they didn't use him anymore and now in this time of terrorism or whatever they would say ok, he can be resurrected again. he would be laying like a mummy in a warehouse basically and.. something like that. I think if you were to do it now you would have to reflect the world we live in now. I would start from scratch and find an inovative story that would satisfy all the people that are basically longing, like me, for a good sequel (chuckles).

Hmm, for me as a professional critic, the hub of Patrick Weller's performance in the original Robocop was always Das Nichts - Sartre's idea of death creating meaning for our lives. But then Weller's character has that raisin d'etre taken away by his ghoulish new existence - a metaphor perhaps for his continued existence on screen that Verhoeven wishes to revisit? Do we not all lose our identities under the timeless gazes of others? Think on't.

Hah, thought Weller was dead too. Sorry bout that mate. Anyway, RC1 IS a CLASSIC. Yeah, granted. Just get a copy of the RoboCop Criterion Collection an you'll see. The stuff that followed was utter shite. Meaningless. Boring. Tedoius. Insignificant. LEAVE IT ALONE. Don't ruin yr lives anymore. But I can see what they are trying to do: Weller's career? Dead. Verhoeven's career? Running out of time. So it's quite obvious they came up with this idea: Let's revisit RoboCop 15 years later and just forget the whole crap that congests half of the shelves of any videostore out there. Sounds good? No it doesn't. It's over. Realize it. Dorks.

I don't know. This could be very much the case of people who once had a really great idea, now returning to outright rehash it, being fresh out of creativity. Wouldn't mind seeing Ed and Paul team up once more, but why not for something NEW? That said, am I the only one who was disappointed that Frank Miller (my comic book god) was relagated to churning out the PG-13 sequels in this franchise? Personally the Robocop film I'd want to see would have Miller running hog wild with his script.

In my opinion, the first film is an almost perfect sci-fi/action film. The only way that PV could make anything new that compares would be to expand upon the Christ/resurrection/technology replacing religion themes of the first. Let's not rehash it just to "reflect the times".

I love the quote above from Paul Verhoeven (spelling): "It'll be the first real sequel..." I'm glad he's actually using his head while contamplating a sequel (instead of just re-making the original for no apparent reason). I just hope Paul can start to make a good films again because 'Hollow Man' was one of the biggest disappointments of my life. This'll probably never happen, and I also don't know if it should... I suppose (as always) time will tell...

What is this, 80's revival time? You know, it's bad enought the studios are remaking movies that either were bad movies to begin with or were so good they don't need to be remade... and it's bad enough we have high and mighty politically correct directors retooling there past masterpieces... but now we have directors who are revisiting there glory days instead of movin' on and maybe making a somewhat original concept again? Sorry guys, but as much as you and us want those days back, they are GONE. It's another world.... another time. You've changed, we've changed. It's all bound to fail and well just end up tainting the movies we love!

It was so said to see how fast this movie series went downhill after the first. Is Verhoeven so strapped for original ideas or flattered by the fangeeks that he would seriously consider doing yet another RoboCop movie? GAG! Or has he been talking to Didley Scott lately as well? I don't care what movie Verhoeven does next, I'm not going to see it. Of course, if he EVER DOES another Heinlein piece again, I will personally go to Hollywood and kill him.....oh yeah, and Shit-Ed Neumeier too for that execrable screenplay of Starshit Bloopers.

Two reasons the original worked so well, and can never be repeat

1}To the average moviegoer , the cheesy title *RoboCop* and whole concept ,seemed like a bit of a joke.But the brutal tone and no holds barred gore , soon wiped the smile off peaples faces.It was so nasty ..that they just had to take it seriously!2} The story was about a man , horribly murdered , who gets a chance to come back and take revenge on the bastards that did it.No sequel can really regain any feeling of the characters humanity..He just comes across as a robot and thats it.The sadness and sense of loss , went a long way to tempering Veerhovens , usual gleeful and somewhat irresponsible use of OTT sadistic violence.It also is the only sci fi film hes made that benifitted from his rather flat cinematic style . I thought the TV series's Richard Eden did as good a job as possible , when it came to the pathos side of things.But the show was just tragic for a lot of other reasons , whenever a bit of violence was meant to occur.Robo used to drawn his gun and shoot a spoon on the table so that it flipped up and hit the bad guy on the head!!!???Thats about how nasty it ever got.Can anyone tell me how those Prime Directive Tv movies ended up?They've never been shown on the British version of the sci fi channel{which doesn't bode well} and I seem to remember the talkbackers at this site , deciding the whole things sucked.Did they get any better after the first two..or did no one suffer them to the end?

Since we're reviving 80s movies with robots, how does anyone feel about tackling a sequel to "Heartbeeps"? Granted, without Andy Kaufman, it could never be the same. Maybe we should settle for "Electric Dreams II: Edgar Returns." Now that's $8.50 worth spending!

Paul Verhoeven should really jump all over a new Robocop considering that after two, three just flat out sucked and the series sucked even worse (take his gun and turn him into Robo-gadget oi!!) however Prime Directive was pretty cool, because in some ways it continues where part two left off (two was fantastic mindless fun) because three never discussed Robo's family. The only thing that sucked about PD was the second robo-cop dude, i forget his name. He just sounded so forced. a new robo sequel, yeah I'll buy that for a dollar!!

I think 'Starship Troopers' warranted a sequel more than any of the Robocop films.
Troopers was full of satire, and bloody well done battles. No selling out to the masses on this one, it was limb-flying, bug shooting, dumbass attractive people being self-righteous, good old fashioned fun. I was completely and utterly satisfied with that film, far beyond what Robocop ever served up.

Nah, it's already been fucked. Verhoeven coming back for "the real sequel" would be the ONLY justice done to the ROBOCOP franchise. Well, to hell with "franchise." It would be a cool movie and the creative juices for it seem to be going. Time to make another one.
I also like the solution for explaining how Robocop maybe ages. Terminator should have as good an explaination (T3 really is one that shouldn't be made...especially not by what's his U57.)
How is that Carpenter and Verhoeven news always seems to happen simultaneously on this site? It's a beautiful thing. -
At least Verhoeven isn't keen on a remake or 'reimagining' as they seem call it these days. What would be the point? The original is a classic of its genre and isn't that old. CGI enhanced Ed-209? No thanks.
Robocop very much reflects 1980s culture and the political climate. It was a perfect product for the time. The costume, the ultra-violence, the media news clips etc. were original and fresh. If they keep to the same formula today it will look tired. If they drastically change the formula, it won't really be 'Robocop' anymore.
Do we really want a New Age, politically correct, more caring Robocop fighting terrorists with a new improved power suit?
Maybe they could create an interesting story but I doubt they would get the right budget for 'another' decent Robocop. The franchise doesn't have enough clout. Most people remember it as a 'single' cool film from the 80s, with the following sequels/TV/cartoons being throw-away trash. -

I love that movie. I'd almost forgotten how incredibly cool it was seeing the film for the first time in a crowded movie theater in NYC... fifteen years ago. I was only eight years old then and I still loved every bit of it (although that 'Toxic Waste' guy did kinda scare me). I would love to see Verhoeven do a sequel, a real honest sequel, maybe bring back Peter Weller and that wonderfully dark sense of humor that made the first film such a hit. Bringing back the original writer is also a good idea since a great deal of what made the first movie work was due to Ed Neumeier's great script. We need ROBOCOP!!!

Actually, I sorta liked the 1994 Toronto-produced TV series as "cheese", but I have a funny piece of trivia about the TV show. The Executive Producer of the TV series (original, not Prime Directives) was Kevin Gillis, who is also one of the creators and director of the RACCOONS cartoon. But, for those of you Canadians who watched YTV early in the mornings right when YTV first started (around 1988), Kevin Gillis was also host of the kids' fitness show YES YOU CAN (which I think was produced in the 1970s and was picked up by the fledgling YTV because it was cheap). It was the show that had the animated pig, endorsing various unhealthy lifestlye habits, between live-action segments with a voice exactly like Cyril Sneer. He even sang the fricking theme song (paraphrasing from memory; no, I don't have any tapes). (Outdoors, Kevin, a guy with mustache and curly hair -looked a bit like Doug Henning-, on a piano singing.) "Did you ever dream of the Stanley Cup and scoring the winning goal? You got a thousand hugs from all those lugs as your parents cheered at home. Oh you can do it! (Kids: "Yes you can!) You knew you could do it! (Kids: "In a jam!") You put your muscles to it, and you can too!" What's funny is that it was a show about fitness and healthy eating, but by the time he was producing ROBOCOP: THE TV SERIES, he was pretty tubby. Guess he ignored his own advice.

Why don't they just combine this sequel with Terminator 3? Here's how it would work: Arnie comes back from the future to hunt for Conner. But it's an alternate future, where Robocop lives. Robocop is assigned to protect Conner from the Terminator, so they hide out at Camp Crystal Lake, where all the surviving Elm Street kids are trying to escape from Freddy, only to find themselves in the clutches of Jason Vorhees, who incurs Freddy's wrath by murdering Elm Street kids. Meanwhile, a spaceship crashes in the nearby woods. Within it is a Predator, who was transporting several captive Aliens from his home planet, all of whom have now escaped in the crash! Just when it seems like all hope is lost for our heroes, Indiana Jones arrives out of a mysterious Aztec time-portal from the thirties, just in time for the big battle royale in the Cemetary for Unnecessary Sequels! sk

Yup how many of you can say that RoboCop is an Alumi of your school?!?! Well I can, and I loved this movie. I was in juniorhigh when it came out and my parents wouldn't let me see it. That made me want to see it even more. When I finally did see it, it became on of my all time favorites. I would love to see a another installment with the orginal braintrust that was responsible for the orginal. Oh and Harry you guys suck for not reviewing AND ALL THAT COULD HAVE BEEN, the Nine Inch Nails live DVD. It is the best live concert DVD ever made!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Just curious. I'd just like to hear someone's reasoning behind this statement. I mean, the one talkbacker is right....Verhoeven is one step away from Renny Harlinville. It's not like he wouldn't make Robo4 because he has so many better offers or because he'd be embarrassed to do so. And like another talkbacker noted, Weller would be foolish NOT to take any job. So... again..... whay won't this ever see the light of day?

s**t I forgot about that aspect of the tv series!The moment Eden's robo visor/helmet came off, any illusion that it was still officer murphy under that helmet simply vanished!Eden's wide face and big nose made him look more like one of the freaky villians from the Dick Tracy movie!He looked a bit like Dustin Hoffman after an industrial accident.Bottins make -up on weller in the original Robocop was astonishing, as though his face HAD been stretched over a small cyborg skull and neck.I suspect wellers , naturally emaciated appearence kind of helped though , because even with all the built- up fake robotics , the guys neck still looked waifer thin!Another thing that was suspect and rather funny , in the tv series , was the totally bloodless, recreation of Murphy's death.Eden was wheeled into the operating theatre without a scratch on him!It looked like the Boddicker gang had decided to beat him to death with feather pillows or something!

The 80s were the height of Earth's culture and it must be preserved, repeated, rehashed, reimagined, sequelized, and prequelized forever until it looks like Leonardo Dicapro's asshole after a weekend in San Quentin! .....If you have something to say about the eco-social climate of today's world (and I doubt you do) come up with an original vehicle for which to present it, you overrated. mysogynistic fuckhead. Verhoven ain't a bad director. Hollow Man was pretty lame, but Starship Troopers and Robocop were relatively pleasing gory action popcorn-a-thons. As long as we get lots of grue and carnage in a Robo-sequel, I'm all for it. A few things must be in the film. There has to be an appearance by Clarence Boddicker and he has to call someone "dumbass". And Robo should have his hand shorn off again at some point. And finally, that guy has to actually buy something for a dollar. As long as those three things make it to the final cut, I'll go see it. Personally, I think Verhoven should pick up that Iron Man script floating around in Hollywood and sink his teeth into that. I'd love to see his take on the Armored Avenger. The story might be Robocop-esque with the billionaire-inventor who can only survive when he wears a suit of armor to rev up his artificial heart, but it's a different enough story. Verhoven has worked with heavy effects before and an Iron Man film would be tech and effects heavy. I think he's a perfect fit for the project.

Two points to cover. One, for those making the comparison to Terminator, funny you should mention it....there's been a Robocop vs Terminator Dark Horse comic series out for years. There's even an old school Sega Genesis/Super Nintendo game based on it. Done right, it might make for a decent movie, but as a whole, it'll never happen, and it wouldnt work, not in live action anyway. Now, big topic...should this happen? A new Robocop? Well, im with the Starship Troopers group. Starship Troopers has been BEGGING for a sequel, and it still hasn't come. Instead, Verhoeven wasted his time with the failure that was Hollow Man...bad form, bub. But Robocop? I dunno.....i guess with a little elbow grease, this could work. But still, sooner or later, Verhoeven better move his ass on a Starship Troopers sequel. Idunno where im going with this. I'm just happy somebody besides me got a sweet little 1987 flashback at the thought of this.Revolution is my name.

Seriously I think the idea of Verhoeven Neumeier and Weller returning to Robocop after all this timne and after all that's happened in the world would be sensational. A new Robocop movie for a new era using the established character of Alex Murphy. ......................................................................................................... Picture the trailer: The Basil Poledouris score pounds over a montage of original Robocop action scenes and other footage from the first film to bring new audiences up to date. Then cut to a long slowmo dolly around an OCP.COM police warehouse where the abandoned Robocop, long forgotten, sits gathering dust. Machines regulating his vitals pip periodically. A clerk is searching through some files completely ignoring Robocop. From up top we hear a massive explosion on the streets of New Detroit. The machines click and pip overtime. Robocop bolts upright. The small figure of the clerk stares at him. CLERK. "Wha--a...where...where are you going?" Robocop ejects his gun from his leg holster spins it like T.J. Lazer and swivels his head towards camera. ROBOCOP. "Somewhere I am needed." Badoom. End of trailer......................................................................................................... I'd also like to see a sequel to Starship Troopers picking up many years later starring Kurt Russell as Johnny Rico and Gary Busey as Ace Levy. Something I can't figure out is why a lot of people didn't get Starship Troopers for what it was - a black comedy.

What did I enjoy about Robocop? Well, I saw it at a Drive-in Theater in the dells, it was a double feature with "The Untouchables." I was in my early teens, and enjoyed it immensely. The violence was over the top, and that also played into the satirical nature of certain aspects of the film - specifically the commercials. He was supposed to be Tabula Rasa, blank slate, no memories of being hurt ot killed. His memory was supposed to be erased, and he had total body prosthesis (although they never did explain how his organic system got rid of the waste after he ate, i.e. urinated/defectaed). He was never supposed to get his memory back, and caused all kinds of problems for the antagonists when he did. Should a Sequel be made? Too many have been. I personally liked the second one, parts of it anyway. The Hypocrisy of the so-called mental health professional, and the INCREDIBLY Politically correct future, reminded me sooo much of "The Dark Knight Returns." I liked the design of Robocop 2, even though some of the visual effects looked amateurish at best (just like some of the scene of ED 209 in the first and second). But the whole movie had a been-there-done-that feel to it, so that it was not so much of a sequal, as it was a crappy remake (or Reimagining if you are Tim Burton and want to cover up for a REALLY bad movie). I think that they should just leave Robocop alone. 3 movies, a TV series, AND a made for cable mini-series, plus a cartoon series and a whole bunch of comic book storylines, its all just too much. Just let the idea go, and move on to something else. ***** How many people here actually READ the book before they saw the movie??? Starship Troopers is a very entertaining and interesting book, with a tremendous amount of political and social commentary (some of his predictions about late 20th century America are dead-on) that was published in 1959. MOST of the political and philosophical aspects to the story were absent, as were some of the MAJOR technological advances (The Jump suits, which could be argued to have served as an inspiration for Iron Man's armor). Instead, we got James Cameron's version of the story in 1986 (Aliens), and the sorely disappointing version by Paul Verhoeven. A thought provoking, interesting philosphy on why Democracy DOES NOT work, and what an ordered scoiety should be (as well as a damn good Sci-Fi story), were turned into a campfest that tried to cover itself by showing a few biting moments of satire, and Neil Patrick Harris as a Pseudo-Nazi wannabe. Others that have read the book have pointed out that apart from the title, a few character names, and the barest of plot lines the book and movie have no relation whatsoever to each other. MANY would claim it to be a Fascist Manifesto disguised as science fiction. Before you do that, read the book, and read it with an open mind. Look at the situations IN CONTEXT. ***** But as with all my posts, this has just been my opinion.

I'll only support this if they can bring back Kurtwood Smith. I missed the Robocop hype of 1987 and watched it in the late summer of 1988, and Kurtwood Smith was as much responsible for the quality of that film as Weller was. My proof? Robocop 2's villain(s) sucked like nothing has ever sucked before, and don't get me started on Robocop 3. So if they can create some "evil twin" excuse to bring him back that would rule. Plus, if Smith has time, he's in about 3,387 movies a year not including 'That 70s Show'. He was doing the Charlize Theron "be in every other movie" thing long before Charlize Theron was doing it. Notch out.

Verhoeven, Neumeier, and Weller reprising their roles, shoveling aside the manure-ridden sequels II and III, this franchise has enough steam left for one more shot in the keister--a bonafide true sequel. So, disregard the other sequels; merely refer to them as bad blinddates, nothing more.

Robocop was one of those movies that made me glad my parents let

That was what made Verhoevens movies tolerable enough to be great in his big sci-fi pics was that despite all the violence, there was a sense that there were such things as right and wrong involved and that what was right would win out in some fashion. The Problem with Hollow Man was that there was just too little sense that anything was being changed for the better. No victory over an overpowering opponent as in Starship Troopers, no Blue Sky on Mars, no good cop winning out over the corrupt corporate figure who was responsible for his death. That was also the problem with the other two Robocop movies, besides the fact that they were stupid as hell. I'll never forget the queasy feeling I got as Robocop started lecturing those kids in the store. Why would they do that to the story? And Robocop 3? Robotic Ninjas? Jet packs? Breaks: Got any to give me? Some people have the bad idea that a movie being a sequel, means that they can ride the power of the previous movie. Unfortunate.

But then, getting repeatedly kicked in the head and savagely penetrated with a garden hose is better than Robocop 2. I have to assume that Frank Miller was tied up and kept in a closet for the length of the production while they brutalized his screenplay. I like Verhoeven's take on this idea, but I wouldn't want to see it move forward without Weller. Then maybe we can get him going against the World Crime League.

I thought they had the perfect set up for it in robo cop two, but blew it {along with the whole f***ing movie!}.Instead of Tom Noonans brain going into that scrap pile, Robo2 *Kane Monster *thingy. Clarence Bodickers brain should have been preserved from the end of Robo 1 and then placed in the cranium casing of an ED209 !That would have rocked!It's a reversal of the original films premise.It would have been Bodicker back from the dead as an indestructable cyborg, and out to get robo .

of course they won't. but one can dream, right? and at least Verhoeven was behind Starship Troopers, which in my opinion, has some of the greatest CGI work EVER. and of course, The Hollow Man effects are fucking incredible. so Verhoeven knows his way around digital effects movies. either way, i'd love to see a new Robocop.

brigante: Yeah! A few years back Verhoeven was enthusiastic about a sequel and mentioned expanding the bug species.
I think it has more to do with money than lack of interest from him.
Even though the original did OK it wasn't a huge hit. The CGI was class but very expensive. To realise mass swarms and production design for a sequel would require a 'Star Wars' type budget. Unfortunately, to make enough profit (for Buena Vista anyway) they would probably tone down the violence to get more bums on seats.
Starship Troopers is a rare thing: A schlok satirical gorefest with the budget of a 'kiddie' blockbuster.
I'm glad Verhoeven got away with it but I doubt the film company would give him the same freedom again.
Shame...it would be fun to see and would rescue Casper from TV filler.

another Verhoeven film (Total Recall) was my first R rated film

What struck me the most (besides the mutants) was how everyone wore clothes that were grey, or brown, or black. Only the hot pink tube top worn by Sharon Stone had 'color'. And the outdoor scenes were set in drab, cement buildings. George Lucas said the future should look 'used', Verhoeven apparently though the future should look grey.

All you people chirping on about how Robocop was a satire or an allegory to Christ or the resurrection...bollocks!
Robocop was made in 86/87, the heyday of hard-R (or "18s" as we Brits call them) action movies, before political correctness had got to ridiculous proportions and before the ratings people (be it BBFC, MPAA or whoever) had started getting it in the ear for allowing too much extreme cinema to pass uncut.
Verhoeven makes ultra-violent B-movies: Total Recall, Basic Instinct, Hollow Man. The only "Hollywood" movie of his that did have a subtext was Starship Troopers, and did he write the screenplay?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking his stuff. Flesh & Blood and those mentioned above have brightened up many a dull afternoon for me, but take his movies at face value. They're entertainment, not political statements.

Let the man make his own decision. My personal opinion is that he shouldn't remake the film. He had his chance with the Criterion Collection of his film on DVD. He should just continue on making his own great films, whether they be of his own make or based on novels, which he hit a home run on one (Total Recall) and struck out with another (Starship Troopers) And the only case why I say that is he had very wooden actors in the film and it kinda destroyed the plot. Granted the special and CGI effects were good, but within my realm that doesn't make it a good film. We need all these other factors such as a good script with a good plot, good actors and a good man behind the whole enchilada. So, Paul, if you are wise, keep your hands off Robocop:Redux. Your original was a classic in itself.

It seems to me that countless movie characters from the 80s and early 90s are being revamped and Judge Dredd is always overlooked.
I know the mere mention of Dredd in a forum such as this is always going to be met with derision from countless American fanboys and I can forgive you for this because he is a character that has never played well on that side of the pond. All I can say to you is forget that Stallone piece of shit because it had nothing to do with the original comic incarnation, in fact it missed the point entirely.
Likewise if you have only read the odd Dredd verses Batman special and think you know all there is to know about this chacter belive me you don't. There have been literally thousands of Dredd stories that are published every week in the UK comic 2000ad.
Im not going to get into it any further right now, but if anyone is interested I would advise you to read stories such as The Search for the Judge Child, The Haunting of Sector House 9, The Apocalypse War, Democracy Now, Bloodlines, Nightsurfer,The Dead Man and Necropolis. Trust me Dredd is up there with any of the popular American characters.
The point that I wanted to make was that when Robocop was first released I read an interview with Verhoven in which he said that Dredd had been a big influence.In my opinion he is the only major Hollywood director that understands the Dredd humour. So now that it looks like he wants to retread that area why not helm the two new rumored Judge Dredd movies?

Verhoeven's adaptation of Starship Troopers was pathetic, a limp-wristed, feeble attempt to bury the political commentary he despises in the original under a pile of dead CGI aliens, and page after page of utter claptrap passing for a script. The only reason it was merely a commercial disappointment instead of a disaster was the addition of Blur's 'Song No.2' in the trailer. I began to strongly suspect that our water supply was contaminated with something that affects the brain when people I knew and respected lined up to see this turd and then bitched the following Monday that, "that woo-hoo song wasn't even in the movie, man." Whoever hit upon the idea of combining those images of explosions tossing piles of unconvincing alien gore into the air with that song should be recognized for his marketing genius, then imprisoned along with the aging Nazi propaganda filmmakers.

Creat a Fireman Robo and an Ambo Robo. The new grop of 'Super Robo Friend's' would clean up this town. Verhoven wants to use the WTC disaster?! OOoookay, then he'd have a good excuse for obtaining lots of respected cops, firmen, and ambulence guys. The new army of Robo's not only clean up this town but the world. Take Bino, and then makes the whole world in America's image. (Hmmm, this knida sounds in bad taste. Sorry, I don't mean it to. But then again I ain't going back an rewriting the whole post! Forget that!)

It's already been done mate. But some pockets of resistance apparently remain and naturally must be rounded up, slaughtered and have their shredded remains ground into the bloodsoaked Earth. I'm not kidding either. They really should.

That IS NOT going to happen.
A) it's a known fact that Peter has no further interest in this series.
B) it's also a fact HE HATES talking about it... even more so then Alec Guiness' distaste of his fame from teh Star Wars movies.
C) The Buckaroo Banzai DVDs are selling like MAD! with this interest there maybe renewed interset in turning this in to a franchise.
D) Peter Weller's mother did NOT raise a dummy.. 100 lbs of Latex, rubber, plastic and metal is pretty damn heavy when DRY. let alone wet..
IIRC the Robo suit has been compared to the Swamp Thing Suit that Dick Durock had to wear..
Pain in the ass dry and hell when wet.

The first movie was cool. After that, it's serialization. The t.v. show was pretty much crap as well, but it could've been more interesting if not done as a typical action shoot-em-up show. Bascially, the next two movies were pointless, because then it was just a mess with no motivation behind it.

Well Mcor, I'm not American. And I was bein....I don't know. I meant that that's what movies depict, American saving the world. But the only way the world is any good is to be like America. Also, it's true the world is turnin into America, Maccas and the other fastfood chains are all over the world . Slowly conforming everyone to America's way. It was a stab at them, I wasn't agreeing. You know what 'sarcasm' means? Bah! I don't care any more, do what you want!

the second movie could have been better IF they could have landed somebody who could have imitated the style of the first one and not made it a bigger joke.
and the tv series could have been better too if they went towards a bit more of movie cannon. which would have killed marketabillity.
