Ain't It Cool News (

Nickelodeon Cans INVADER ZIM

Dave here, damn you Nick, you really suck sometimes. Word is that this past afternoon, the word was sent down from Nickelodeon that on:

We just got the news here at Nicktoons. The pants have been pulled. The piggie has crashed and burned. Nickelodeon has officially scaled back their plans for Invader ZIM from 20 new episodes in our second season to a mere six.

Big Brother Nick cites poor ratings -- and I don't want to get into a long and painful discussion over the many and complicated factors that go into these decisions. But suffice to say for the moment Operation Impending Doom II is dead in the water.

I suppose the good news for the loyal ZIM folk out there is that there still will be 16 new half-hours coming down the line starting in March. The faithful have many, many fine episodes to look forward to in the weeks ahead. And if we're lucky we'll even get to squeeze out a Christmas special.

Yay. Uh-huh. Yay.

I'll keep you up to date with more info as it becomes available.

Agent Darkbooite out.

Ain't that a kick in the face? Especially considering how incredibly unwatchable the rest of Nickelodeon's lineup is? What a shame. Maybe Cartoon Network will have the brains to pick up Zim and give it a decent time slot. We can hope.

    man, that sucks

    by phatjacck

That's the only show i watch on that network. Well, i guess that means 40 new episodes of square bob and larry pants or whatever they are called.

    by Fred4sure

The show was way too aware of itself. Sure, it tried hard, but it always had one eye on the mirror checking out how cool it was.

Fucking Assholes!!! Would it hurt them to promote the thing a li

    by Psyclops

I can't believe they would rather produce mass quantities of green goop for their network than give a brilliant show like 'Invader Zim' a chance to thrive. They can churn out crap like 'Rocket Power' and 'Keenan & Kel' but once they get a decent animated series that is actually funny and extremely creative... they can't handle it. Please, CARTOON NETWORK... you are the only one that can save us!!! This show belongs with you ...right up there with SAMURAI JACK. Don't let it die.

    Curse you, Count CocoaFang!

    by user id indeed!

So, the bastard children of those Mountain Dew monkeys keep getting their "power" for their "rockets",and this show goes down? If only Mega-Baby could stomp that (now)useless channel into the GROOOUUUUND!!! This has been a Moment with User ID Indeed! I luv dis show!

What next? A cheap CGI film?!!

    by Captain Comicz

Oh, wait a sec...they've done that! Do ya' think the suits at Nick could got and suck the blood out of the Teletubbies, maybe dig up my Grandmother and have their way. You'd think they would've had their fill by taking the soul from "Ren and Stimpy", but I guess not. Damn, I guess Zim's not generic enough for them.

    by vroom socko

Let me add my voice to the crowd, Cartoon Network needs to pick up this show. Nick has become a seriously awful network. Shows like Fairly OddParents, Butt Ugly Martians and other subpar dreck is draining viewers of their brain cells. Zim is a terrific show, tv animation hasn't seen anything this funny since Ren & Stimpy, and we all know what happened to that.

    by Dlhstar

Goddamn it all to pus-filled hell!!! All I have ever managed to see of ZIM has been about 10 episodes thanks to working every friday night and ALWAYS forgetting to set the VCR. Then, to make matters worse, our cable went out for the whole day when I did manage to remember to set the VCR. SHIT! EVERYONE I HAVE EVER INTRODUCED TO ZIM HAS LOVED THE SHOW! Maybe Cartoon Network could grab it for their Adult Swim lineup (allow the episodes to be more violent and disturbing and bitter). Shit, this was a show that exceeded some animated FILMS in terms of animation quality. So, crap like Rocket Power and Wild Thornberries get to live on, but fucking ZIM gets fucked!? In the words of the immortal Jay: "Fuck all that shit, Silent Bob!" Zim was the best fucking show Nick had in addition to Fairly Oddparents. Now I only wonder how long THAT has left. I should have known things were bad for Zim when Nick pretty much cornfucked it over every weekend to show countless hours of Thornberries. Well, if anyone is interested, I'll track down my few ZIMs on tape and try to put them up on the net in some form real soon. Maybe even tonight... FUCK! Now I know how those fucking hardcore X-files and Roswell fans felt!

I can't believe Nick is getting rid of Zim; It's such a great show. It'd be great if Cartoon Network picked it up, but I'd be pissed if MTV got a hold of it. MTV picking Zim up is a really bad idea. How many great shows have the canned the minute something new and trendy - that they think "the kids" will like more- comes along. Cartoon Network, pick this up and put it right after Cowboy Bebop. BTW, the New Cornelius album comes out in the US on Jan. 22nd. and remember - I was there...3000 years ago.

    I saw this coming

    by IAmLegolas

Don't get me wrong, I love this show to death, although lately I've been sick of seeing the same episode 4-5 times (it seems to get stuck in rerun hell a lot). There was absolutely no promotion for this show whatsoever. No TV commercials, no billboards, no posters, etc. Even when Jhonen V./Nick were at the Comic-Con showing it off they had zilch merchandise and zilch freebies. Compare that to Samurai Jack/Cartoon Network which had CD-Roms and other sh*t, plus within 2 months they had action figures out exclusively on Cartoon Networks site, commercials, etc. I'm assuming that Nick is a bigger company than Cartoon Network??? It's only recently that Zim merchandise has come out (see and still no promotion. Like one TB'r said, Cartoon Network or Sci-Fi Channel should pick this up, it had no business being on Nick anyway, it's too advanced for them and too adult. Nick, the very least you can do now to make me happy is release an Invader Zim DVD.

    Zim gets Zapped

    by cancerous

Hey, I too was a former workerbee at Nickel-and-Dime-alodeon and I'm here to say that Zim isn't getting pulled due to poor ratings... its ratings are just as good as any other show on the network. It's all about the content, especially post-9/11 terrorism. Nick NY feels the show is too edgy and dark and will inspire school shootings and other bullshit. It's the same reason they cancelled my pilot -- watch it now at One second they loved it and were going to do 26 episodes, on the 12th of September they hated it and didn't want to put on a show where Bad People do Bad Things. Stupid. Angry Beavers, then Spongebob, and now Zim... soon it will be the all-Rugrats channel.

  • Jan. 18, 2002, 4:05 a.m. CST

    Unwatchable? Obviously never watched Spongebob

    by IMScully33

Spongebob Squarepants is a great show that gets buried in all of Nickolodeon's crap. It's clever and funny, anyone who hasn't watched it is missing out.

  • Jan. 18, 2002, 4:21 a.m. CST

At least SpongeBob got a lot of support from Nick...

    by Dlhstar

...given all the merchandise out there to promote SpongeBob? I know people who swear by the show, but I saw a few episodes and wasn't really all that thrilled with it. For some reason that I can't figure out, college kids and high school kids really latched onto SBSP and totally missed the boat on Zim.

  • Jan. 18, 2002, 5:38 a.m. CST

    I've got Bestest Friends online...

    by Dlhstar

it's That's the link the the "Bestest Friends" episode ( MIGHT work too. I got it streaming by opening it straight from RealPlayer, but you should be able to dl to HD if you want.). It's low quality (2.9MB), but it was as large as I could make it without splitting it up into two pieces and should be about a 10 min or so download. I think it needs at least Realvideo v8 to view, though (tried putting it on in .wmv format, but it wouldn't take...) Also, on the main page there are two ZIM links that are not to episodes, but to videos I put together several months ago (and lost the original AVI during a HD format... Damn it!). I've think I've got about 2.25 more hours of Zim I think that I can probably get on there in the next few days (pilot, idiot dog brain, rubber piggies, career day, Dad Signature, nanozim, wettening, and I think one more full half-hour). If I do, I'll put links on the main page. If not, the Untitled.rm will be the only one I'll have available for viewing. (I'd better be careful. Damn VCR damn near ate the tape and probably ruined the tape I've got the the Spumco Bjork video on...) (NOTES: Took me 3 hours to upload this and have it play back properly. While streaming it, it seemed to get stuck a few times as if it were buffering at 99%. Pausing it for about 5 seconds and unpausing set it right, it seems.)

    by pulpculture

Nick orders 20 episodes and then scales back to only 6? There's more than just ratings at work here. Alas, Nick almost certainly owns all or part of Zim, so I doubt Jhonen Vasquez can pick up and take it elsewhere, although Cartoon Network would probably give it a good home.

  • Jan. 18, 2002, 7:23 a.m. CST

In the immortal words of Obi-Wan Kenobi, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    by XTheCrovvX

Ok, X-Files getting the boot, fine, its been long time coming. Will miss what it USED to be, but i think it's had a nice run. Fine. Then The Tick gets cancelled...which just plain chafes my ass to no end, especially considering that last night's episode was pure coolness. But, oh, Temptation Island's still on the air...dammit....and i was on the verge of recovery, having found out that Ren and Stimpy somehow snuck its way onto VH1 at 11:30 at night.....but now this....this...::sighgrowl:: Goddamn you, Nick. I mean, yeah, some part of me DID see this coming....i mean, look at it, Zim was NOT a kiddie cartoon, unlike the other bulltripe taking up valuable space that rightfully belonged to Rocko's Modern Life, Ren and Stimpy, and Ahh! Real Monsters before Nickelodeon gave them the shaft too(actually, somebody above got it right...Nick took Ren and Stimpy's soul first, THEN gave it the shaft)...and Nickelodeon's first and foremost a children's network...something this twisted was bound to just not work on that network....but i'm still pissed off to no fathomable end....i mean, when was the last time you saw a commercial for Invader Zim? Or a poster? Or a promo? in fact, pretty everyone i know who watches the show heard of it because either A: Staunch devotion to Jhonen Vasquez. or B: A friend told 'em about it. And believe me, if you know a kid that's in Nickelodeon's target audience, and he's into Jhonen, I suggest counseling. Pronto. There was precisely ZERO push for this show from day one, and shows with no push are destined for failure, no matter WHO it may piss off. But, I'm not going on a psychotic rant, simply because i have a little faith that somebody out there's gonna pick it up. And, if anybody, it's gonna be either MTV or Cartoon Network. Much as i have issues with MTV musically, they do their "alternative programming" right, which is ironic, considering they also own Nickelodeon....and Cartoon Network, of course, even if they do pull "Where's Waldo"s with their material every once in a while(Thundercats is on 6 in the morning now?!), they WILL keep shows on the air. Of course, you know, if there was karmic justice in the universe, ZIM would've been cancelled in favor of getting a JTHM cartoon on HBO, and even then, i wouldnt pray for that yet, because I'M still waiting for Todd McFarlane to MOVE HIS ASS on getting a season 4 of Spawn on the air. But thats another rant....::sigh:: It was good while it lasted, guys. I'm just gonna get the last couple of eps on tape, and that'll be it. Operation Doom II has suffered massive failure.'s not a good week to be a TV fanatic. Revolution is still my name. Z?

Heck..I've never even see Invader Zim or whatever..But it still get's me to this day what happened with Ren and Stimpy. First getting screwed over by Nick, then canceling it...uggh. Now I only have one hope...they release every episode of Ren and Stimpy on DVD. I want 4 things out of my life, A wive, a decent job, a house of my own, and Ren and Stimpy to have a proper DVD set. That's it..if I could have those 4 things I would be set.

    by rev_skarekroe

I just got cable and this was one of the things I wanted to watch. But these days it's all 500 channels and I never have any idea what's going on aside from Buffy and Angel every week. Half the time I just turn on Animal Planet where there's a 90% chance it'll be "Crocodile Hunter" or VH1 where it's almost certainly someone's "Behind the Music". sk

I think Fox should pick Zim out. Fox would be a perfect place for good ol' Zim. They could move it to Fridays, and movie Family Guy along with it. Hell, they should move Futurerama to Fridays, too! Maybe a little King of the Hill, or The Tick if we get lucky. THEN YOU WOULD HAVE THE MOST POWERFUL FRIDAY NIGHT, EVER! MUWAHAHA!

    by bienvenu

At what point did Nick Toons realize that they had an entertaining program on their schedule? I was wondering how long it would take for them to find out that they had accidentally programed a decent half hour of their network. I just pray that Zim isn't so deep in their clutches that it won't be able to escape to another network. Well, if Ren and Stimpy can find a home on VH1, I guess anything's possible.

G.I.R. RIP? I say thee nay!

    by Atomisk

Alas, Invader Zim, we hardly knew thee. This is another in a long line of great Nick shows(Ren and Stimpy, Rocko, Pete and Pete, Real Monsters)with a cult fanbase that is killed and is never heard from or seen again, unless you count the bargin video tape bins at large media retailers. This does indeed, as the masses say, suck. Is there anything we can do to provent this from happening? Not really. The Nick suits have decided to drop the axe, and all we can do is complain that it is a bad desision. That is presicely what we need to do, scream and complain in mass. I doubt that the news of poor Zim's imminate cancelation has gone unnoticed at Cartoon Network. There may even be a plot afoot to rescue Zim & Company from their current plight(Gendy, Craig, CN Suits; Are you lisening?) Now if we cause enough of a stink we may actually get some movement on this. It has worked before(Mystery Science Theater 3000), and it might just work again. Ok, so Operation Impending Doom II didn't work, but that doesn't mean we have to stop tring. Now is the time when when we must, as a community, do what we do best; organize and then complain, complain, complain! Eventually we will make enough of a nucence that someone somewhere will have to respond. Now get out there and do your best! Remember, there is a little robot in a dog suit with a rubber piggy counting on you to save him, let's not let him down.

This ranks up there with the cancellation of Sifl & Olly

    by Postwood

Its another case of a show with a distinct following...not just mommy turns it on so little wuggums will shut his face hole and leave her alone, but people who really liked the show. When I have a busy week, I only get Buffy, Smallville, and Zim. It's another case of the suits have never watched anything but the pilot and the Zim crowd just isn't selling the barbie ad time. Hey, maybe it will all fit on two DVDs. Commentary tracks would be a hoot.

I loved this toon like no other on Nick. It was proof positive that there is entertainment that transcends age like Invader Zim. I only hope that in the future, we'll get them on a DVD box set. But, then again, I'm still holding my breath for a Lone Gunmen DVD box set, so what do I fuckin' know. Oh, well. Goodbye, noble conquerer Zim. You will be missed. Snootchie Bootchies

Zim is why Johnen never has time to do comics anymore, and the comics are much funnier. There are more laughs in I Feel Sick #1 than in the whole run of Invader Zim. If this is the price to pay for more Johnny and Devi comics, so be it.

Damn...I went to a friend's house the other week to drink beer, smoke dope, and watch some stuff he and his girlfriend taped. I had NO idea that Invader Zim existed, and it was one of the funniest cartoons I had seen in years (even without the chiba). Now I get home, have to go to friggin' Nick's lame-ass website to sift through every flash animation time-waster to find out when it plays (Friday nights? Hunh?) and set up my UlitimateTV. Now its gonna be canceled?? Bastards!!!-----------I'm in agreement, this needs to be on Cartoon network where it would work. They need to stop showing so much crappy Dragonball Z anyway. I don't think Fox would make a very good home for it at all, actually. Family guy has more universal appeal, even as weird as it is. Zim is more a cartoon fan's cartoon. _____________Here's hoping for the jump to CN!

    Zim on CN? Fat chance

    by evilfruitvirus

Nickelodeon NEVER releases the rights to any of their shows. They still hold the rights to Ren and Stimpy and the original Doug. If Zim wants to go on another network, it'll have to go through a name change most likely. SLG has stated no more JTHM Squee or I Feel Sick comics are going to be made. However, Jhonen has been itching to do a JTHM animated series.

    by Demoncatch

Nick is a kid's network interested in shows that get kids to watch. You might think Nick has nothing good on, but most of you are probably in your 20's-30's. Not exactly the target audience. My 5 year old loves Nick.

  • Jan. 18, 2002, 3:38 p.m. CST

    No Big Surprise

    by Van Damned

Just add 'Zim' to the expanding list of cartoons who have been taken away from us too early, and yet 'Family Guy' is given carte blanche over at Fox. There is no God.

  • Jan. 18, 2002, 3:47 p.m. CST

    But For The Record...

    by Van Damned

I'm not really surprised either; shows that are 'too hip' or not understood by thier 'target' audience (whatever the hell that is) always fall by the wayside. And maybe 'Zim', in the final anyalsis, is outgrowing its home at Nick. It was always a little subversive and subtly nasty, which was great but not like the rest of the baby chow on that channel; perhaps Cartoon Network or the WB really ought to look into purchasing it before Nick ruins it for us (kids AND adults). BTW, my nieces and nephew watch the show regularly, as do I. They get what they want from the show, and so do I. Saying it's just for kids means you don't like what your kids like, which leaves your judgement in such matters suspect. Nyah.

  • Jan. 18, 2002, 3:50 p.m. CST

    Sorry Evilfruitvirus, but your incorrect

    by mythicflux

Nick did give up the rights to one of its shows, "Ren and Stimpy" can be seen on VH1 at I believe 11:30 weeknights (of course VH1 is another Viacom-CBS property like Nickelodeon, but the point is true, Nick will occationally give up rights (I remember seeming late at night a episode of Sponge Bob on MTV (another Viacom-CBS prop) which confused the hell out of me when I saw a few weeks ago)) They might be willing to with ZIM if the price was right since its not like they are making a killing on merchandise.

  • Jan. 18, 2002, 4:09 p.m. CST

    That's because

I liked Zim as a show, but it did not in any way belong on Nick. I have a young child who likes watching a lot of the other shows that are on Nick, and he enjoyed watching Zim, but did not understand the show at all. It was too dark, too moody, and too disgusting. My wife really disliked the show, so she is not going to be sad to see it go, but I am. I would like the show to be picked up by someone else to show at a later hour- like Adult Swim! To all of you that have this anger towards Nick for canning this show, remember Nick is for young kids not for us Twenty year olds and above!

    downloading Invader Zim episodes...

    by nixon45

i've never watched Zim on nick, my schedule just never seems to allow it. but a friend downloaded an episode and showed me, and i downloaded the rest of season one here: >>>>also, another site i've found it at is: >>>>really sucks that it got cancelled, this show rocked in such a big way. really something different. soon as i saw it, i thought 'no way will this last. its too good.' rip.

    Zim, we barely knew ye

    by Cajun Lightning

The reason why the masses have latched on to Spongebob and not Zim is because Spongebob is actually on television occasionally. I saw Invader Zim twice, entirely by accident. It was just as funny and original as Spongebob and all our friends on Cartoon Network, but the show just isn't on, or it's on at stupid times like Friday nights when no one is home watching television. (Even geeks like us go out, you know.) Here's a little marketing tip: If you air it, they will come. Although I'm sure it really is about September 11, as is all things that suck now in Hollywood.

    Shades of "NewsRadio"...

    by DarthSnoogans

Maybe if they had actually promoted these shows and stopped moving it around all over creation, people would have tuned in. One week ZIM would be on Sundays at 5:30PM, next it's on Saturdays at 11:00PM. I thought it was the most creative and hilarious cartoon since "The Tick". Problem is, I only managed to catch about four episodes in total because of the aforementioned idiotic schedule changes. Nickelodeon needs to die a slow painful death. Hell, let it take MTV down with it.

    by Fudd

where everyone is getting the idea that Zim has been cancelled? Nowhere in the report does it say that. It does say that they are scaling back from 20 eps in season 2 down to 6. If they are still going to make these 6 new episodes how can it be cancelled? Only if those eps have already been completed and they've fired all the animators and will broadcast only what's been done, could you say its over. But if they are still making them, then it's still a new season with the possibility of maybe another season in the future. Of course it could be going the way of the batman/superman adventures on the wb. Weren't there only like 5-6 episodes in the last season of that? What I'm saying is we need more info.

Isn't Nick a kids network? Hello?

    by tbrosz

Nickelodeon is basically steered toward kids. If it is true that Zim was cancelled because it was too "dark," that is a legitimate reason from their point of view. I assume most of the people complaining here are adults. I agree that it would fit well in Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, maybe as a replacement for the worthless Aqua Teen Hunger Force. That said, the Zim "Water Balloon" episode was the funniest thing I've seen in months. Can't wait for the DVD collection!!

    by XTheCrovvX

getting Nick to take back Zim is a moot(or should it be Voot?) point by now....right now, we should be petitioning Cartoon Network to pool some of that wonderful Dragonball revenue, and buy the rights to Zim. And as for the guy above, trust me, hardcore cartoon fans KNOW what "scaling back" means in the tv industry. Batman Beyond got "scaled back" after the ROTJ fiasco, and, oh, where are the new episodes of that? their 4th season was ONE episode, "Curse of the Cobra". The 90's X-Men cartoon got "scaled back"....its final season was one episode too...and that was worse because THAT ONE WAS A FLIPPIN' CLIFFHANGER WHERE PROF. XAVIER DIED, AND MAGNETO TOOK OVER AS LEADER! ARRGH!! Get my point yet? "Scaled back" is more PC, "kindest blow", big business speak for "Your show is fucked, start packin, bitch."I'm done here....Revolution is my name.

Have you the brain worms, Nick?

    by Coldsnap

Let's see... Take on of the most disturbing comic book creators, give him a show for kids, let him create something bizarre(although I hear he has issues with some of the content they change), then can it. None of these are sane decisions. Christ, they bury it in the schedule at 9:30pm on Friday. Who the hell is watching TV on Friday night? Oh yeah, I geeks! Let Cartoon Network grab this, please! They'll beat it like the red-headed step child it is.

    The layoffs have already begun

    by cold lazarus

From what I hear, staff layoffs have already begun--and for those who know the animation lingo, it's not "hiatus"; staffers are getting severance pay. So the show's done, put a fork in it. Don't get me wrong, I liked the show--I thought it wasn't evil *enough*. But it was amazing that Nick ever picked it up in the first place, given its demographic of preteens. The reason behind the cancellation: I'd imagine a number of factors, including 9-11, Johnen's penchant for diva-like behavior, cost-cutting moves from Viacom, and internal politics among the executives at Nick. As far as Nick giving up ownership of Zim to CN or any other entity, it's not bloody likely. The best that could happen is the show being laterally moved to another part of MTV Networks. But given MTV's recent shutdown of its animation department, it's clear that Viacom/MTV Networks are pretty much out of the animation business, preferring to subcontract its content instead. The recent demise of Daria was another example of MTV choosing to capture the "tweener" market at the expense of its more sophisticated programming, so I wouldn't expect Zim to find a home there. Now, there's no reason that Johnen couldn't develop something new for Cartoon Network or anywhere else, but Zim is owned by Nick and the odds of it ever seeing the light of day anywhere else is slim, no matter how many letter writing campaigns or petitions rise up.

    x_x Oh, lord...

    by EnbeidaZim

I cannot believe that the show was cancelled! And do you people KNOW what I saw on Nickelodeon last week?! Last freakin' Saturday, at, like, one CST. REN AND STIMPY! On the channel that cancelled Invader ZIM!! What is with that?! Can ANYONE tell me?! I, for one, do not get this network at all! Where ARE they coming from? Angry Beavers is still showing in the mornings, Ren and Stimpy comes on, they FIRE the SpongeBob Squarepants crew, and NOW the Invader ZIM cast?! WHY? You would have to be INSANE to cancel a show that popular! People, I don't mean to sound insane, myself, but I went to school last week TWICE dressed as one of the characters. Once I went as ZIM, and another time as TAK, a new character that was supposed to be aired on Valentine's Day! Grargh! And this is what I get for my loyalty! Jhonen, please do NOT let Nick do this to you! Talk to Cartoon Network! I know Nick came to you first, and it'll be a whole lot of legalities goin' on, but please!! And Cartoon Network! Don't pass up this chance! Nick is dropping like a bomb, baby, and you can hit 'em hard! With your ever-popular anime, Tenchi, Dragonball, and Cowboy Bebop, you're already on top, but you can make EVEN MORE!! Everyone loves the little green guy! I've writted twenty or more fictions based on this show, drawn hundreds of pictures, and will but ANY merchandise as soon as I get the money right up to the last penny! I agree with the others, too. Adult Swim is the most perfect place for Invader ZIM. Keep our favorite Irken alive!!

    Invader Zim!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    by killer3k

CARTOON NETWORK, PLEASE HEAR OUR CRIES!!!! Nick didn't even give the show a chance. On average, they aired it once a week at any random time (usually at night after kids have to go to bed, or on sundays when nobody watches tv, anyway. Sunday was rare, though.) Constantly changing the schedule and only showing it once a week (and sometimes not at all during the week) is NOT, I repeat, NOT the way for a tv show to get popular. It must be played at the same times, on a regular basis. Plus, it wouldn't have hurt for them to actually PROMOTE it a little, would it? They are such idiots. A MESSAGE TO NICK; If you don't want to show Invader Zim anymore, that's your call, but PLEASE, PLEASE have the common decency to release the show to another network to show. PLease don't screw Jhonen, the fans AND yourselves. Don't let the show disappear. Don't let it go to waste. PLEASE, AT LEAST let another station have the show. If you don't either; A)let it be shown on another network. -or- B)continue airing it on your network Myself, and many, many other people will boycott your network. Comedy Central and SCIFI channel both lost a great number of viewers when they cancelled MST3K (Mystery Science Theater 3000). Don't let this happen to you!!! This show has the same kind of devoted fans.

    Episodes on VHS or DVD?

    by killer3k

I have all of the aired eps of invader zim on vhs. I recorded them myself. However, I'm wondering if there will be episodes that will never see the light of day. If so, I will need to get ahold of them somehow. They never aired the Invader Zim episodes DOOR TO DOOR and FBI WARNING. Does anyone have a bootleg of these, or know of any plans for the release of any such thing on VHS or DVD in the future??? I mean, they REALLY should make a dvd collection of every Invader Zim episode ever made or that was planned to be made, from beginning to end, so hardcore fans can get the rest of the zim story. I WANT TO BUY OR TRADE FOR A COMPLETE COLLECTION OF ZIM EPISODES!!!! Can anyone help me???

  • Jan. 19, 2002, 5:50 p.m. CST

Save Invader Zim! Invade Cartoon Network!!!!!

    by eyesonlyus

I am OUTRAGED! This show had everything going for it! But the jerks at Nick are wankers! There were 2 episodes of Spongebob on last night (which I do not like) and 2 episodes of the Fairly Oddparents (which is really good but not as great as Invader Zim). The second problem is that they would schedule Zim at times people are too busy to watch the show. Fridays at 9:30e/8:30c, most parents have to send their kids to bed. Ergo, New York, Boston, DC, Phily, Detroit, Nashville, Atlanta, and Miami are SOL. These are cities with high populations in the Eastern Time Zone. They can barly get an audience from the Cental Time Zone so kiss Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Minnannapolis, Memphis, New Orleans, Millwalkee, Green Bay, Kansas City, and St. Louis goodbye. With the Exception of Los Angeles, the futher west you go, the fewer people you will find to watch the show. Now that there is a East and West feed, the Mountain and Pacific time zones get the same dismile ratings as the Central and Eastern time zones, respectively. Ergo, Denver, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle are all out of the picture. What about the replay time on Sunday? A post-9-11 America has now devoted more time to going to church. Many churches have 11 am service which draws the largest crowd. Thus posting Zim at 12e/11c makes the chances of finding watch Zim as hard to find as a parking space at the Cathedral. Cartoon Network on the other hand has got it easy. They have Courage the Cowardly Dog (which is great!), the Powerpuff Girls (which has a movie coming out this summer. When I found out they were orginially suppost to be called the Whoop-ass Girls (no kidding, see for the proof!) I figured what the heck and started watching. Indeed the name Powerpuff sucks. Maybe they should have called them the Woodshed Girls to attract a larger female and male audience.), Dragonball Z, and Space Ghost Coast-to-Coast, The Brak Show, and Dexters Lab. But as far as we all are concerned, the AOL Time Warner network has overshadowed Nick for the past year to the point that Nick's audience has been stamped out. Thought the Fairly Oddparents are Nick's only hope, Cartoon Network is gonna find Zim a nice spot in their prime time line up. The 2 episodes of Dexter should be cut back to 1 pushing the Whoop-ass Girls into the 6:30c time slot and placing Zim at the highly popular 8/7c time slot. -------- A quote from the show to Nick: "I hope you like nightmare worlds!" --Gaz

Like so many others, I'm appalled at this. And I agree that a superior network *cough*Cartoon Network*cough* should pick up the series. If money is an issue, there are enough fans out there starved of merchandise who will provide a healthy return. Dammit Nick, why are you such ass monkeys? If this is about 9/11, they're going the wrong way about it. Perhaps they're unhappy with the underlying connections between western civilisation and the Irkens, who both wish to dominate the known universe? Learn to laugh at yourselves people. Or maybe Zim is too sophisticated for Nick's other pathetic dribble, and they want to stick to their narrow target audience? How many more babies can Rugrats have before everyone stops watching?

Nick is doing this to crunch union drive

    by cbucket

The reason Invader Zim, Spongebob, and 2 other shows are being dropped has everything to do with 16 out of 19 writers signing union cards. Question for Darkbootie, cancerous, and any other Nick insiders.

    by SpacePhil

Big question is, where is Zim produced ? If it's produced in-house within Nick, the chances of it getting picked up by another network are furthermore reduced. But if it's produced by an independant studio, the chances at least are pushed up slightly... And wait -- didn't Disney buy 'Doug' from Nick ?

Nick really shouldn't cancel Invader Zim!!

    by Invader Deb

I am so SAD at hearing that this show might be cancelled. To anyone out there, I heard that Jhonen is saying it won't be cancelled unless he didn't want to work on it anymore, or if the voice actors didn't want 2 work on it anymore. But I can't be sure. I love this show! It wasn't on long enough, and I feel that a part of my life has been cut short. I truly hope that even after Nick has shown all the new episodes, that they will continue to show it anyway at least, or maybe make more episodes someday, in the distant future. Like they have done for some other shows. Or I hope that Cartoon Network will take this show!! Please, help ZIM! Sign petitions. Maybe if everyone works together, we can do something about this. I mean, what if it isn't all the big boogy man Nickalodian. What if Johnen wanted to go back to comics? What if it was all HIS idea? Think about it. Though, I myself dont belive it, its STILL possable. What do I think happened. I think that the all crappy Nick couldn't handle ZIM. Maybe the old bosses could, but not these wusses. You know, the one's who turned a halve decent network into one big fat six year old, who craves to see the same things over and over.

    Writers union

    by cold lazarus

It sounds right that Nick's moves to bust the writers' movement to unionize may have led to the studio ending a number of their in-house productions, including Invader Zim. (I hear that Steve Hillenberg pulled the plug on Spongebob for personal reasons, though.) Nickelodeon's animation artists are also non-union, as are a number of smaller studios in Hollywood (including Klasky Csupo, Nick's biggest contractor). It's unfortunate that during a time when the animation industry is in a recession and so many artists are out of work, studios have full leverage *not* to unionize their artists or writers. The union movements may have contributed to the net's decision to simply contract from KC and others to keep the notorious bottom line down. But honestly? That's probably not going to change anytime soon, while my brothers and sisters in the industry continue to juggle their budgets to weather the lean times. As for Johnen, I wouldn't feel bad for him--he made a shitload of money for Zim, and he's certainly attracted the attention of the animation community that he'll be picked up somewhere, for sure. I'd feel bad instead for the various artists, directors, revisionists and other creative people who do what's considered the grunt work in animation and are therefore the most expendable. It's they who are going to suffer the most for Nick essentially closing its doors to virtually all its productions (Fairly Oddparents is the only show left). It just means less available positions for an increasing number of unemployed artists.

  • Jan. 21, 2002, 12:33 a.m. CST

    by cold lazarus

The sitch at Nick is that, not everyone is of one mind there. Obviously, certain producers believed in Johnen's product, and some did not. There is something of a typical (for Hollywood) power struggle going on within the network between a certain female producer who favors character-driven properties, and another producer who favors gag-driven stuff like Oddparents and Catdog. Guess who's winning? You probably shouldn't expect network execs to behave rationally, anyway. It's all about ego and self-interest and working to undermine someone else's baby to the benefit of your own.

Doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom,....

    by clattu_barratus

Hey - Jhonen says it's not cancelled and I'll sit back and wait and see what happens. He also says that they didn't show Zim this past Friday, (1/18) as they only have a few eps and didn't want to play them to death. (Thank God) Nick has put a Y7 rating on the show which may put off viewers and sponsers, or it may attract them, it's a razor's edge there. After SpongeBob's first season they did the same thing with that show, you couldn't find it for a while, and when you did it was the same eps over and over and over until the new one's came out. Buffy the Vampire Slayer went through the same rumors repeatedly, especially last season when the show switched networks. Even though Whedon, (the shows creator), was telling everybody the show was continuing there were some very dull people who were convinced it was cancelled, and the rumors continue. So, I'm going to continue to go to the Zim site on Nick so that it has some activity and Nick will have tangible proof people care about it, as well as emailing Nick, and trying to get Zim on-line trading cards. Doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom, doom.... clattu

Well, here's two things I want to say. First, Zim going off the air won't be a major disappointment because Jhonen's OTHER works (*cough*) are better, and I have the whole series on my computer anyway, so I can watch it whenever I want. Second, I think I am the only person in my age group that finds SpongeBob to be "low" humour. It's a terrible show! Sure, some of it makes me grin, but most of it is just one hackneyed cliche' joke after another. It's pathetic.

I don't know where you heard that, as I heard something very different from someone who works for Nick (or worked). Hopefully I'm not going to sound like a broken record repeating shit you already know here, but hey. Word is that the show was pulled because of CONTENT. Apparently Jhonen Vasquez had a meeting with the producers, who were uncomfortable with some of the more bizarre elements in the show (as you may know, they've had to censor & rework a few episodes), and in the resulting dispute Vasquez snapped at them, and they--pulling a corporate powertrip--vindictively cancelled the show right there. No completing a full season, no next season, no two week notice. Nearly the entire staff was told to clear out their offices by the next week, with only a few remaining to finish the episodes they were working on. Pretty fucked up...

The above post is True. Zim is dead

    by Dr. B. Quest

That's pretty much the truth. zim was cancelled because the Producers hated DIB and the content, especially after 9 - 11. The producers hated Dib, and demanded that there be no more episodes that feature him.. at all. They wanted to lock down the show to only the skool, and forego any scenes in outer space, or other parts of town. Jhonen was annoyed. and the studio pretty much let go the staffers that day. Since the only way to get a show in Nick is to let Viacom own it, zim will not be seen anywhere else, except maybe on VH1, because Cartoon Network is the competition. Tape and enjoy, and mourn it's passing. besides jhonen has more and better stuff coming up.. even if it's just comics.

I don't see why it's not considered a children's show. My 6-year-old little sister watches it, and she loves it. She may not get it most of the time, but it doesn't affect her in any way. If they think it should be removed because of what happened on Sept. 11th, they might as well remove any shows that have any violence in them at all. I couldn't find ANY Zim merchandise except for a few t-shirts at the local hot topic store, which was probably why the cartoon wasn't so lucrative and viewed. I'm suprised they can say that it screws with kids' minds when there are much more damaging (Those stupid singers they bring on the show i.e. Aaron Carter, Dreamstreet, all that crap). I don't see why they replace all the good shows like Zim and the Angry Beavers with the stupid ones such as Rocket Power, Wild Thornberries, Rugrats, etc.

    A repost of cancerous's post:

    by Endermunkee

"Hey, I too was a former workerbee at Nickel-and-Dime-alodeon and I'm here to say that Zim isn't getting pulled due to poor ratings... its ratings are just as good as any other show on the network. Stupid. Angry Beavers, then Spongebob, and now Zim... soon it will be the all-Rugrats channel." O! Well-adjusted lovers of Zim, does this not strike to the very core of your being, that Nickelodeon execs would so insult our judgement and character that they pretend _ratings_ were the cause of Zim's demise? Does to me. I'm as normal as you can get, and to suggest that I'd go on a school-shooting simply because I'd watched an episode of Zim (*gasp* Edginess?! Hilarity?! Creativity?! Dear God, protect us from such evil . . . things!) is preposterous. Please show your support of Zim, mainly by signing the petition: Only, please refrain from your average Talkback talk-- I don't think they'd be too pleased.

Invader Zim was canceled for a reason

    by InvaderPixy

and that reason is: discrimination! i swear, that's what i think. i mean, it was on NICK for God's sake! and the fact that Jhonen is a "cult icon" . . . the fact that Invader Zim stuff would only be sold at Hot Topic . . . it was canceled because nick feared the unfamiliar - namely, the punks, goths and the like who make up most of the Invader Zim audience. i'm surprised that i haven't found anyone else saying this . . . i feel it's a pretty obvious answer. i myself am a devoted Zim fan, but also a "punk". it's people like me that make nick afriad to put shows like Zim on. the network is, alas, dedicated to kids and the fact that older people that are punks and goths make up at least 70% of the Zim audience mack staffers there nervous. there's no way nick will put Zim back on the air . . . ever. somebody needs a hug . . . & i think that somebody is me . . .

Invader Zim unties the age barrier!

    by 1GrrlRevolution

I may be legally a minor, but I care about the fate of Zim as well. At my school Invader Zim has a following of its own. We despise SpongeBob and his threat to our otherwise happy world of dark scenery and robot dogs. Nickolodeon is making a huge mistake by dropping a show with this sort ot potentially. Everyone can recognize it. The thought that Zim could "provoke violence" is sheer proraganda. I mean, sure sometimes Zim can be a little sick and twisted, but that's what makes it so appealing! It's not going to candy coat the way things are, it shows that hey, humans are pretty gross people. The plots of the show are always intricate and inticing. The animation is stunning, to throw away such a masterpeice would be a waste! I know everyone would love to see Cartoon Network pick it up, but the chances of it are a billion to one. Nick needs more Zim promo, cut some of the lame shows they have, (this is going out to you butt ugly martians, and fairly oddparents!) and move Zim from the idiot time slot. Zim is the koolest ever. We'll mourn the loss of it, but if I lose my favorite cartoon someone (Nickelodeon) is going to have hell to pay. Everyone sign the petition and if you can whine to the network. Go sign on to and go complain through the Zim section of the page. Heck, get your kids to whine, go ask your mother-in-law to send something. All I can say is I'll miss you, Gir!!!!

    Zim on Morpheus!!!

    by CryztalDreamz

All the Episodes from the first season of Zim (even those not aired in the US!) can be found by users sharing their files on Morpheus! Morpheus is a free file-sharing application and can be found at And now for my contribution to this whole Zim mess... The need for Zim marches through my veins like giant RADIO-ACTIVE RUBBER PANTS! The pants command me, DO NOT IGNORE MY VEINS!! ...Surely something so popular among the masses can't just be dropped and forever forgotten about... someone has to pick it up again. ...We hope... :/ I can see why it was cancelled from Nick though, since Nick is so into "Quality programming" these days... child-oriented, gross animation, redundant plots, and mundane characters. Yes, quality indeed... Zim would fare quite well on Cartoon Network, MTV, or even Sci-fi. Yaknow, places that mostly have a diverse selection of shows to watch through the day. Jhonen is a pure genius, ZIM CANNOT DIE! DOOM doom doom... the end! ooh, whassat? ::runs away to play with something shiney::

How dare they leave a show like Spongebob Squarepants and butt-ugly martians on Nick and cancel a decent show like Invader Zim!?!? Nickelodeon has gone to hell in a handbasket. Sure zim was a little gross, but at least it was better than that damn Rocket power BS! Do you realize how much i hate Rocket Power?!?! And they are keeping rugrats on, which seems to suck more each episode(WHY!?!). I hope CN cares enough to try to take Zim and put it on their station. F*CK YOU NICK!

Stupid People: I would ask you to keep in mind that this should not be a source of moral guidance (that would be movies). Put away the knifes and never allow yourself to forget: You are stupid. The best some people can hope for is to better manage their damage. We think we can live away from what we hate, but are defined by those very things, it feeds upon us... Sustained by our belife that we are doing something right. We think we are so great in our protests... But we just become the bitter offspring of what we oppose. We are prisoners in our own cages. * from jthm * also found at

It's not all us 20 year olds and above...

    by Kippixieon

Let's just face the fact. Nick isn't just a network targeted towards;s a network targeted towards the hip-hop kids. (Preppies..) Observe most of their shows. Rocket Power. That uses all of the new "rad" words, such as "rad", "dude", "lame-o", and etc. etc. And As Told By Ginger, that's about a girl who wants to be a preppy. And Butt Ugly Martians, also targeted towards that group. Most of their other shows, too. Just think about it. Nick isn't doing anything really wrong, just trying to hit the majority. And the majority are kids who want to be popular and think geeks are lame. You know the type. If Nick showed all the dark shows, then they would loose their majority. Listen, most of the people I know are usually somewhere around 10 - 16 who like Invader ZIM. Me? I'm only 12. I'm, infact, a nerd, geek, whatever they want to call it, who wants to stay that way. And I have the same opinion as everyone else. This sucks. Nick sucks. But like I said, look at the reasons above. Watch more of Nick sometime, you'll see how it is. Notice how on their video things and commercials and that Slime Time Live...pop bands dominate and perform. Would you ever expect to see Limp Bizkit on there screaming out his lounges? And also, not only is Nick targeted towards the hip-hop kids, but they want to make it viewable for the parents. Think about it. ZIM is about an alien trying to take over the world. Now what do some moms see in this? "Oh, this show is so bad! This MAY encourage my kid to do bad things...". But what do we see? "Whoa! This show rocks! So oringinal..". Understand? Now, what about Dark Harvest...the episode in which ZIM steals all the organs??? This is what some moms see. "Ew..that is SO gross and sickining, how could Nick ever SHOW something like this to children!? " What we see.." could Nick show this!? This is cool! Nick went insane...this is so creative for a cartoon plot!" Get the drift?? See, if Nick put out all dark shows, not only it would loose the majority of the kids, but also loose the respect from most parents today. So, this is why ZIM has been cancelled. We can try to stop it. But like I said above, Nick is a network targeted for hip-hop kids, not us geeks and nerds/lame-os, whatever they want to call it. - This is Kip, from signing off. - P.S. Invader ZIM is a show about an alien from a planet called Irk getting sent to a random planet because he desperately wants to go invade something, and the rulers of Irk, The Almighty Tallest, send him to some random planet, happening to be Earth. There he encounters very many insane adventures, and always is in rivalry with Dib, the paranormal-obsessed-geek who knows ZIM is an alien.

What happened to the good shows of nickelodeon? Come one, Rocko's Modern Life, Ren and Stimpy... Doug. All the shows now... well they suck. No humor. Finally they come out with one thats really original and funny... AND THEY CAN IT?! Well I hope when they do... ZIM gets picked up by Cartoon Network. At least then it would be among shows that are funny and not targeted to one audience in particular. Support our tiny Irkin!

I have to get this outta my system before I kill my little brother... You are being total dumb-ass, boring little butt-fuckers for cancelling Zim! You know that when Zim was on, the ratings were great! Your just probably mad cuz the people who own the predictable, too many characters, and has no real plott and way too many movies RUGRATS are mad cuz everyone likes Zim more than that fucking show! And you cancelled all the other REALLY good shows that everyone loved. EVERYONE loved ren and stimpy, what was wrong with that?! and Angry Beavers?! there was no evil in that what-so-ever, though the name was "angry" beavers. It was pure comedy! But, you still seem to think that people like the retarded, cant talk until he's over 2 years old, mother-fucker rugrats! NOBODY likes the show! Then you keep showing old episodes of Doug, which nobody watches. So let me get this all straight... You showed for a gazillion years, Bugs bunny, where the characters repeativly tries to push them over cliffs, shoot guns at eachother, be plain old mean and evil, but you wont show a GREAT

I think I'll sing the DOOM song now...

    by I_Love_Jhonen

I can't believe that they are cancelling Invader ZIM! That show is the best. They should show it on VH1, or even MTV, because they are all owned by the same company, and I saw my beloved Ren and Stimpy on there awhile ago.I started watching it over the summer, when my brother was watching Spongebob, and that came on. I even named my website after the Vampire Piggies that Gaz has to kill in her video games. I saw the new episode on Friday, and it was funny as hell. Well, hopefully Jhonen will do something like a JtHM show, or movie. Nick always cans the good shows, like Ren and Stimpy, Angry Beavers, AHHH! Real Monsters, and Rocko's Modern Life. Hey, maybe ZIM shall come on DVD, to make all of us fans and Jhonen obsessors happy. Besides, Cartoon Network should put ZIM on during Adult Swim along with Cowboy Bebop, Pilot Candiate, and all of those other great shows. And if the rumors of Spongebob being cancled are true, I think I'll join my fellow Chickzrockers (a site whose message board contains most of my friends) on the planet Irk, with ZIM so we can unleash Operation Impending Doom III on Nickelodeon.

    hold on a second!!

    by shioko

You guys, listen up. daktt and a lot of you other people are sitting here saying how Zim is a show for 20 somethings! This is so not true, I'm 15 and my friends and i love this show to death. Now, they are currently airing new episodes every friday at 9:30, there are a couple of ways you can help keep it here. 1) WATCH IT! You say you love it, so watch it. If they see they've got high ratings, they'll make new episodes. 2) DO SOMETHING! I'm the opinion editor of my school newspaper, so while not everyone is able to do something like what i did, you can do others. I wrote an entertainment story on Invader Zim, telling people how great it is, what time it comes on, and to watch it. It's stuff like this that get's people to notice the show. Nick won't give it attention, so you'll have to instead. While we may feel like whining to death, this won't get you anywhere. It just annoys people and might actually make them want to get rid of the show even more. watch it and do something about it. that's all i'm saying.

    Invader Zim ROCKS!

    by GIR123

Well see i love Invader Zim, i sleep, eat, breathe, and live Invader Zim. If Zim gets cancelled, it would be like taking my only source of humor away, I even have a GIR plushie I put of my drawer sometimes. I am such a fan i act like some of the characters, and say their lines sometimes. Even if Zim is canclelled, it should go out in a bang, like a movie or something. Maybe Jhonen could continue it in comic form or something, or cartoon network could take it and put it on ccf (Cartoon Cartoon Fridays for people who don't watch Cartoon Network.) If Jhonen does continue it in comic form, he could finally make it the way he probably wanted in the beginning, he could make it more violent and put in some swearing, I mean Nick set too many rules for him to follow by. So many of us don't want Zim to be cancelled. I also heard a rumor that they are cancelling the channel, don't write back to me saying this is wrong, this is only a rumor. "I love this show"-GIR

    Zim cancelled

    by GIR123

Look all the shows on Nick are all about perfect people living in a perfect world. For Jhonen the world is not perfect, the world will never be perfect. In Jhonen's eyes you see darkness, dead things, and stuff. In Nick's Eyes you see perfection, goodness, and flowers, blah, blah, blah. No one wants to see that. I agree with most of the people. I think that Nick only picks shows they want to watch, not what the audience wants to watch. Nick doesn't care. One of my favorite shows was Kablam, i loved that show, i watched it every time it was on. I watched Rocko's Modern life but they cancelled that. They cancelled the good shows but kept the bad, and now they are making movies of a the terrible shows, ex: Wild Thornberry movie.

Okay. Nick has done it again. Cancelling one of its best shows and leaving on other stupid ones and call it entertainment. Maybe it's entertainment for other people but not to Invader ZIM fans. Anyway, I was skimming through other ZIM websites that kids made and they make it sound like there's nothing that can bring it back. Quotes: "ZIM cancelled? Yep! Looks like it's true!" "This episode is canned. IT WILL NOT AIR" "There's nothing to do i mean Jhonen's sick of it and the crew won't come back" "Just leave the show alone. NICK will never show it anyway" ...and much more. Those kind of people are NOT zim fans, even though they THINK they are. They don't know that from what they said made some kids give up on cancelling zim. So even though they want the show back, they're makin it worse. ...and they think they're fans. Tch... I made some petitions: "TAKE NICK OFF THE AIR" (helps nick get low ratings) _________________________________ "SHOW THE SEASON 2 ZIM FINALE" (hour-long finale of zim, cancelled by the idiotic NICK) ********************************* So SIGN!!!
