ROSWELL.... the movie'

Published at:  Jan 11, 2002 12:21:36 PM CST

Hey folks, Harry here. I know some of you love Roswell, while others despised the tv show and others just care less... and still others (like me) have never seen an episode. Would it make a good movie? Is there something there? What would you want it to be?

Harry,

Roswell the show is that poor - let's hope they don't pull this off. Never the less
I have something. I better not say too much, in case it's not supposed to be public knowledge yet.
I recently attended Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors convention. I talked to a man who works as a technical advisor on UPN's Roswell. We talked a little about the show, and he told me that the show is not faring well on Television.

Jonathan Frakes has an idea to make a feature length film after the season, should it be canned. They want to make it a big movie - an adventure like star trek - with the original stars and some larger stars in it.
it's all a bit speculative at the moment, but none the less, found it interesting.

If that is true, than it seems that Frakes is not the only one interested. Check this out from 'perthpatty'...

My sister in CA informs me that the blatantly gorgeous Colin Hanks was on Howard Stern last week, talking about his new movie. They mentioned his show Roswell - that he's now left; and he said he's heard whispers that the director wants to do "Roswell: The Movie". He laughed about his character returning - being dead and all. Thought it was funny and interesting.

East and West - the movie

    by kentrel

Johnathon Frakes should dump this show and apply his efforts elsewhere. He's proved that he's a talented director but so far his genre seems to be mainly sci-fi.

Roswell isn't too bad but the era of this type of show is coming to an end. X-files and Buffy are all approaching their end and people are getting sick of this.

    by -mrbean-

There are plenty of other decent shows and even not se decent ones that would make a better movie. Remember when Riker says that 'our aliens look good'??? Well, Frakes, aliens aren't supposed to all looks great and thats why nobody watches!!!Jackass.

    Well,....

    by trude

... if Alex (Colin Hanks) is alive at the end and Jesse (Adam who cares) and Isabel/Alex together - I watch it.
But since the writers are too stupid to write something at least a bit logical they won't be able for something like the said things. So, adieu "Roswell-The Movie".

    Pedantic ManOwar correction

    by aggregatescore

I'm sure you're perfectly aware of this, but I thought I should point out that the film of Buffy was preceded (& inspired)the series, featured a completely different cast and was absolutely SHITE! Funnily enough I think that a feature length Buffy using the T.V cast could work, but sadly, Sarah Michelle-Gellar gave it the thumbs down. Oh well.

    Roswell: Good Concept, poor execution

    by robred1

The idea of three teens with powers getting caught up in a search for their own origins, world wide alien conspiracy, etc. is a good one. However, there's too much established BAD history. How can you make a movie that continues the story of a series very few people have watched? The only way they can make this work is by IGNORING THE EXISTANCE OF THE SERIES, HIRING BETTER WRITERS AND EXPANDING THE SCOPE AND SCALE OF THE STORY!

    The actors are the key

    by mgthedj

They may not want to come back. Colin Hanks left when he was offered the chance to do his Dad's mini-series. He took it, then came back from Europe and landed the role in "Orange County". The feature film divisions want these cast members NOW. Doing a feature of their series is not a very smart career move. I actually like this show. The pilot was some solid work. But network interference and in-house politics may have killed the series.-----later-----m

It could go either way, but I doubt this'll get made

    by drath

The quality of the show has been mixed. I used to think its main flaw was the Dawson's Creek style pacing but leaving the WB didn't solve the problem. Now its UPN-show paced, which is short-attention span insanity with a half dozen plot threads that go nowhere. And William Sadler is STILL underused! I'd like to think the concept would work for film, but how would you reintroduce the characters to movie goers? You can't treat it like Star Trek because that show was rerun enough for it find an audience during the looooong break between TV and film. And let's face it, Roswell isn't as popular as X-Files when it went to film. I'd like to see the cast and crew of the show continue to work, but I doubt there's much left if the show is cancelled this season. It just never became what it should have been: an intriguing mix of Buffy adventure and drama with X-Files mystery(only with answers).

    Does anyone care?

    by heleno

I mean, Roswell has got to be the least sci-fi show on TV. Every single time that it has been my misfortune to find this on, I have seen long meaningless glances between beautiful teen types who should find something better to do. I haven't seen any alien stuff at all, except in the how-can-our-love-survive-when-you're-a-completely-different-species moments - which involve more meaningless glances ad infinitum. Spare us! The only reason to make Roswell a movie would be to get it off prime time TV and onto the bottom, dustiest, most out of the way shelves in the video shop.

the show is great, but this'll never get made

    by johnnysunshine

Last season's ratings were much improved over the first season, being the only show to really survive in that post seventh-heaven monday timeslot that nearly killed Buffy in its first season. This season, however, the ratings have taken a nosedive in the famed Tuesday at 9 timeslot. The show has one of the most devoted fan followings I've ever seen, but since they're the only ones who really watch anymore and the order for the season has already been cut, it looks like the show "you just can't kill" as Jason Katims used to say, is getting cancelled.

The fact that it is so low-rated this season makes the plausibility of a feature very unlikely. If they were just talking about a tv movie for UPN next season, then it might be possible, but who the hell are they going to get to fund a feature? Remember when they were talking about reuniting the cast of Sliders for a feature after it was cancelled?

Sally The Nihlist should be in this

    by trappergold

If they are going to make a Roswell movie they should for sure include that chic Sally The Nihlist form the New Year's episode. I swear she totally stole the show and did not even say a word.

    Dear Mr. Frakes...

    by mcvamp

Roswell is far from the worst show on TV, but making movies? Not everything can be Star Trek. Most would argue that even Star Trek can't be Star Trek anymore. Just make some TV movies for the Sci-Fi Channel. Roswell fans will thank you. Otherwise you'll have it in limbo forever, the movie will bomb if it's even made, and as a result, any unfinished story arcs will go forever unfinished. Just some friendly advice. Maybe I'll even watch the show sometime.

Perhaps they should make a ROSWELL film based off the last Kevin

    by monkey_king

The HBO film was great, but was missing many elements covered in the last Randle book. The TV series can crawl under a rock and die somewhere. Katherine Heigl nude? Her talent(s) are being wasted on the small screen.

If it gives you any idea of my taste, my favorite show right now is Smallville. Which personally I think they need to use this concept on remake Superman 1 thru 4.
But anyway Roswell rocks and I mean hard. It had a hughe fan base but no one spoke up. But as for the story line......totally addictive.

This is one of my favorite shows and I really hope it doesn't get cancelled. The movie sounds good, as long as they don't set their sights too high. Can't wait to see when/if Liz gets powers and what happens between Isabelle & Kyle ^_^

    ROSWELL MOVIE!! COOL

    by angel 97

I think that a movie about the television show Roswell would be great. Joss Wehdon wrote the movie Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 1992 and it became a hit television show in 97. I think that Jonathan Frakes should make a movie about Roswell. KEEP ROSWELL ALIVE IT'S OUT OF THIS WORLD

    Make it Happen!

    by man-thing

I can't see them making a Roswell feature, but it would be very cool if they were to do a TV movie where the final confrontation between the pod squad and the aliens that took over their planet took place and the saga could have a satisfying ending. If this were to happen, then more people would give it a chance because thay would know if they invested their time into it, they would see it come full circle and not open ended like so many television series that end or get cancelled without a proper ending. Make it Happen!
