JUST ADDED ANOTHER!!! New BLADE 2 Review Pops Up Online!!!
Hey folks, Harry here... I just got this review in and all this fear over New Line screwing Guillermo over really put a bug up my ass to see if there was anything behind any of this. I mean seriously, is this thing so hardcore that he would have problems from New Line in keeping it intact? From the sound of this Guillermo might have a bit of fight with the MPAA, the last thing he needs is a problem New Line. I'll see what I can find out, but after Peter Jackson having such a great time with them, I can't imagine any problems til this gets to the MPAA. I mean, this is an R-rated film, you want it as hard as it can be. Dontcha? Isn't that the point of a badass action vampire flick? We'll see....
I was also at the Blade 2 screening Tuesday night and while I suck at writing
reviews, I just want to chime in and add to the unanimous praise. First off,
the night was already off to a good start because Guillermo Del Toro was
there and watching the film with the audience. Basically the movie is what he
promised it would be--a non-stop, wall to wall hardcore action/horror flick
that's heavy on violence, gore and martial arts (with much praise to Donnie
Yen in that respect). Rarely is there any down time and yes, the Reapers are
one of the creepiest motherfuckers to come across in some time. I can't
really think of any complaints save for the fact that the energy is so high
all the way through that the finale seemed a bit tame compared to the rest of
the movie, but no bother as it was also the most incomplete section of the
film effects wise. Between the personal achievement of The Devil's Backbone
and the almost certain commercial achievement of this, all Del Toro needs to
do is combine these forces and he may one day create something as successful
on both ends as LOTR.
BTW-I read in another talkback that someone saw an earlier version and
expressed concern over the possible cutting of some of the more greusome
scenes, mainly an autopsy of a Reaper. While I don't think the MPAA has
gotten to it yet, that scene was still there and I couldn't have imagined
ANYTHING being cut out since then. Still, even though I felt privilaged to
see while it is still unrated, it'll be frustrating to know that some stuff
might be taken out. That's mostly why I wanted to write this review--to get
as much positive word for this film on record because if New Line doesn't get
behind Del Toro's back, there could be some uphill battles ahead. Here's
hoping otherwise.
ConcordHey folks, Harry here... Seems over at Countdown To Blade 2 website they have a new review from the recent test screening for BLADE 2 that took place a couple of nights ago in L.A. The review is another rave! Seems like Guillermo Del Toro has another good one on his
This movie is awesome. I Saw a prescreening of the film Jan. 8, 2001 (last Tuesday) at The Bridge a theatre in Century City, Ca. This movie is so Unbelievable. Click here to read BLADE 2 review!!!
Nice to see so much positive feelings towards this film, let's hope it continues!!!

I liked the first one - I thought it was efficient and entertaining, but with a visionary artist behind BLADE 2, it should just rock very hard indeed.

I am always wary of reviews that contain the words: "awesome!",
by smugbug
I don't know why, but I just am. I'm still going to see this movie, afterall it is Guilermo del Toro we're talkin' about here. del Toro directing a movie with a BUNCH of vampires? KEWL. Oh and AWESOME and I betcha it's gonna KICK ASS.

Have always wondered, never seen
the answer. By the way, I am NOT

I just watched Blade on DVD last night, and it's still one of my favorite movies. As great as it is, it's definitely better on DVD, the picture is better, and the sound is definitely a lot better. This was one of the most beautifully-done action films I've ever seen, the costumes, the sets, the weapons, everything! We nothing but glowing reviews for the sequel, I'm even more psyched to see it.

This read more like a spoiler for the reapers rather than a tru blue review, but I am no less eager to see how Blade 2 will turn out.

Blade 2 looks like its gonna be a great combo of horror and action!!How cool is that!?!?

Hard to take it seriously since the Bridge Cinema in L.A. is about 10 miles south of Century City. Maybe his mommy did tell him where they were when he was dropped off. Oh yeah, by the way LOTR kicks LucasAss.
Peace out. -
these BLADE movies are like the exact opposite of what anne rice vampire movies are. i bet BLADE will kick QUEEN OF THE DAMNED *ss at the box office!

I just am glad to see that this movie even exists. I loved Blade (except for some of the early-demo-looking CGI), but I really didn't think that the sequel would happen. Did the first one even make that much dinero? I just seems like there's every reason to believe that this film will be one of the rare sequels that surpasses the original. I see it (not having read but the first two sentences of the review)being what "Aliens" was to "Alien". More of the good stuff, characters that don't have to be explained as much, and just more ass-kicking. It had me at the teaser. BEETLEJUICE AS MINI-BLADE IN "BLADE 3"!!!
-
Blade I was a sleeper hit. Made 75 million at the box office and gave a dynamic perspective to a character who had a B standing in Marvel's line-up.

I loved the first film alot! The people behind this Blade franchise have it right, they said on the dvd commentary "we don't want Blade sequels to become progressively worse like the Batman films". I just hope they don't delay this film from it's Spring opening to a August release like they did with the first film. No blood god this time in this one... and umm what happens to Blade's chick from the first film?
-
Come on New Line release Blade 2 a little earlier please....End of August is a shit date really. Show it end of Apirl/ first week of May just before all the Star Wars/Austin Powers malarky. It'll have 2/3 weeks at number one then it'll slow burn all through the summer. Nobody loses out. Sometimes these release dates don't make sense. Especially when we seem to get a lot more stuff shown on the same date eg Harry Potter/Lord of the Rings/Episode 2. Make an old man happy - and I don't mean Moriarty.

The MPAA better leave Blade 2 alone or I'll go apeshit their stupid asses!!MPAA keep saying this phrase:GORE IS GOOD,VIOLENCE IS GOOD,SEX IS GOOD.Now just keep saying it over and over until it sinks in.Oh yeah!!Don't forget SPIDER-MAN:MAY 3RD,2002!!!!

i thought the studios had stopped screwing us over with "international release dates. august in the uk? come on new line with pirates and dvd all the blade fans will have seen it by then . hell my grandmother will have seen it. sort it out will ya.

I'm clearly behind the curve on this one, but I hated the original Blade. Snipes just looked uncomfortable and silly poncing around in his little leather coat. I think you'ld be hard pressed to think of a worse Vampire film in recent years (and include that embarrassing soft-core thing with the girl from Who's the Boss?). Why a sequel? Didn't he kill every vampire in the known universe in the first film?
-
From the original Shaft to Mack Truck Turner, Foxy Brown on up to Blade. African American heroes pack a bigger punch than any other film of the same genre. If Neo went toe to toe with Blade he'd get the shit kicked outta' him.
-
Smugbug-What the hell have you been smoking? Blade totally rocked. Everything from the fight choreography to the stylish camera effects were top notch. Snipes brought the characther to life the way every comic book hero should be. If you're just talking trash for no apparent reason than quit wasting our time. Oh yeah, have you seen John Carpenter's "Vampires"? Or any of the horrid From Dusk til Dawn sequels? There are a helluva lot worse vampire movies out there than Blade. So sober up and prepare yourself for Blade 2!! Beeeeeotch!

and I mean it! I really don't like this guy - ever since PG-13 was introduced, I believe there has been a decline in the quality of film that has been released. Well, I know some of that is due to the studio suits.........
-
Smugbug-My last message should've went to Kieran. My bad. It's early dammit!!! Peace.
-
Actually much better than was expected for this kind of comic-book adaptation genre flick. I LOVED the original, and I'm really excited about the sequel. My wife hates this movie, every time I rent the DVD (I need to just break down and spend the $20 on it already, I've rented it like 4 times now), she makes me watch it in another room. Usually a pretty good barometer of how much cool action/gore is in it.
-
Brian Lumley's "Necroscope" remains the one true modern vampire saga. "Blade" is merely a ripoff the work the great comic artist Jack Graham, who, as anyone familiar with comics knows, created the "Vampire Hunter" series in the late 50s. In an interview with "Cinescape" in 1999, Snipes even said that the second film was going to be a tribute to Graham's work. "He is the one and only guy who got it right," Snipes said. "If we can get close to that, we've done our job." EAT THAT, people.

The fights in Blade 2 should be pretty awsome, ive just checked out the shurayuki trailer,a japanese swordplay action film that donnie also handled all 4 action 4 last year and it looks fuckin amazin. Shame he dont get much screen time in b2 cos the boy deserves so much better, this year u will prob see him in Hero battlin jet li and in Shanghai knights goin toe 2 toe with a certain Mr Jackie Chan and not b4 time time 2! They yenster can outflip and kick jackie and jet, and will make Snipes and co look the best ever will in b2....just u wait and see.
-
Blade, New line may want to push this puppy to a summer release if it gets to many favorable reviews from test screenings. I hope not, and Blade one was the shiznit, and to can only go up, well I hope it does.
