JUST ADDED ANOTHER!!! New BLADE 2 Review Pops Up Online!!!
Hey folks, Harry here... I just got this review in and all this fear over New Line screwing Guillermo over really put a bug up my ass to see if there was anything behind any of this. I mean seriously, is this thing so hardcore that he would have problems from New Line in keeping it intact? From the sound of this Guillermo might have a bit of fight with the MPAA, the last thing he needs is a problem New Line. I'll see what I can find out, but after Peter Jackson having such a great time with them, I can't imagine any problems til this gets to the MPAA. I mean, this is an R-rated film, you want it as hard as it can be. Dontcha? Isn't that the point of a badass action vampire flick? We'll see....
I was also at the Blade 2 screening Tuesday night and while I suck at writing
reviews, I just want to chime in and add to the unanimous praise. First off,
the night was already off to a good start because Guillermo Del Toro was
there and watching the film with the audience. Basically the movie is what he
promised it would be--a non-stop, wall to wall hardcore action/horror flick
that's heavy on violence, gore and martial arts (with much praise to Donnie
Yen in that respect). Rarely is there any down time and yes, the Reapers are
one of the creepiest motherfuckers to come across in some time. I can't
really think of any complaints save for the fact that the energy is so high
all the way through that the finale seemed a bit tame compared to the rest of
the movie, but no bother as it was also the most incomplete section of the
film effects wise. Between the personal achievement of The Devil's Backbone
and the almost certain commercial achievement of this, all Del Toro needs to
do is combine these forces and he may one day create something as successful
on both ends as LOTR.
BTW-I read in another talkback that someone saw an earlier version and
expressed concern over the possible cutting of some of the more greusome
scenes, mainly an autopsy of a Reaper. While I don't think the MPAA has
gotten to it yet, that scene was still there and I couldn't have imagined
ANYTHING being cut out since then. Still, even though I felt privilaged to
see while it is still unrated, it'll be frustrating to know that some stuff
might be taken out. That's mostly why I wanted to write this review--to get
as much positive word for this film on record because if New Line doesn't get
behind Del Toro's back, there could be some uphill battles ahead. Here's
hoping otherwise.
