VANILLA SKY clips available here!
Hey folks, Harry here... There are so many films coming out over the course of the rest of the year that are by top filmmakers with top ideas that I literally feel like a boy pressed against a candy counter pane of glass going, "And that one and that one and that one and that one!!!" I mean... Besides FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING... we're getting new films from Cameron Crowe, Frank Darabont, Ron Howard, Michael Mann, Ridley Scott, Wes Anderson and Steven Soderbergh!!! And while there's that part of me that rightly pissed that we don't have Scorsese in that list as well... Well, I think we have enough coolness that having Marty's film for later... It just feels good to know that Marty has something special for us in the works. Meanwhile, Looking at these three clips from VANILLA SKY... all I can think is, "Am I going to see Cameron Diaz's Magical Swirling Ass in this?" I'm hoping and praying. But I was utterly delighted to discover that Diaz's Magical Swirling Ass has brought in $20 million for the next chapter in the CHARLIE'S ANGELS SAGA!!! Well, go check out the latest from Cameron Crowe's flick....

Good Lord.

Is it just me that laments the fact that people can focus on that, rather than the ladies insanely beutiful smile? or even, good god no, that she's obviously an highly intelligent individual with whom you could share a beutiful evening of wonderful conversation? or would you all rather just deposit your pitiful man milk over her backside, after 30-40 seconds of nasty sweaty grunting...oh well...
-
Okay so I'm dyslexic and tired. My point still stands.
-
Great interview. These guys are great together. Can't wait to see the film. I just got laid off so I have time to go to matinees. Whoo-hoo!
-
Does ANYONE WANT to see this film?
-
It's not "man-milk", it's "man-gravy." Also, is Harry the only one here who considers Charlie's Angels a "saga?"
-
A couple of friends saw "Vanilla Sky" this weekend at a screening and HATED it. I don't mean dislike--I mean fierce, livid HATRED. And one of these friends is a huge Cameron Crowe fan. Neither friend could even tell me what the movie was about; they just said it was atrociously-written and painful to sit through. Sounds like Miss Cameron's magical swirling ass (or whatever Harry calls it) won't be able to save this one.
-
From what I've heard from friends who have seen it, its really good...totally not what you expect. After reading so much about it over the past couple of months, I'm looking forward to checking it out. I'll be there next weekend for sure.
-
well, i haven't seen it but i can tell you what open your eyes is about. cross eyes wide shut with lost highway and...
SPOILER!!!
the matrix
and there you go. i'm not sure if you'd want me to tell you, but the twist is so unforseeable and inventive that it blew me away. -
It's just a fact. Anyone who calls this guy gay, without any proof, and you have none, has issuses. Seriously. People are threatned by Cruise because they know your woman fantasises about his cock more than their own. That is if you have a woman, after all your the one with the issues. Happy masturbating

Why do poeple feel the need to mention that they've had sex (of john holmes levels, i might add) on this site in said discussions? obviously evildoer seeks to distance himself from the image of the 14 year-old(magnoliafan) that we all associate, beating off 8 times an hour to the moulin rouge movie poster. And whilst I'm quite prepared to accept that he has, in fact, HAD SEX! (yay! woo!) he really doesn't need to point it out quite so extravagantly. Is this going anywhere? Shit...sorry...ummm....taxi for plisken!
-
Is there anyone else in here that just got a little case of the ole fleshcrawl when reading Evildoers post?
-
Man gravy? Gravies brown dude...is there something you're not telling us?
Hmm? -
A: Very ugly. She is completely overrated and I do not see how Tom could look at that all the time. Those lips make her look like the guy from Dick Tracy with the big lips. Also, her voice may be more annoying, more drive-a-stake-through-your-eye horrendous than Rosie Perez, and that is definitely saying something. I

I think adam sandler (or some one who knows him) already did that...Gayper-views team based male group orgy..with john madden commentating...pretty funny...also very easy to see how something like that could happen, in a country so lacking in irony they have allowed a religous fundamentalist to pursue a war against other religous fundamentalists, in an indescrete manner, hence enraging them to further acts of violence in an unending spiral that leads us to the edge of oblivion, and over, and despite the fact that this is continually pointed out, no one ever seriously acknowledges it...

"strong vigilant America fighting worldwide terrorism"?
by snake_plisken
Hmmm...do you define terrorism as "cowardly bombing of innocent civillians to further your own political agenda"? now, can anyone see the irony? is it possible that perhaps violence is not the way forward? do any of you have any idea about the concept of a "just War" as outlined by grotius? here's a good one, for all you sci-fi buffs..."violence is the last resort of the incompetent" since it seems to be Bushes first resort, what does that make him...or how about, plain and simple, violence begats violence? whether you can ever justify killing anyone for any reason (you can't, i've tried) when some one hates you that much, their hsa to be areason, yet i've seen no move to address that reason. Nationalism is a disease, it's what makes us think we're better, and if we're better, they must be worse...lets get 'em!! think about that, while you police the globe...(oh, another one, who watches the watchers?) (read the republic, then tell me if Bush comes anywhere close to Plato's description of a guardian? or even ruler?)
-
.....makes me wanna see it even more. and good analogy, harry...i too, feel like a kid in a candy store....
-
But the damn point needs to be made, over, and over and over again, until people actually see the sense of it, instead of just giving it lip service...It's a horribl fact that thos ewho most want power, are those least able to wield it responsibly...

It's true. No fanboy would. Everything would be a joke. The fact is, I don't know what Cruise's orientation is. There is no proof that he is gay, so I will give the guy the benefit of the doubt. Honestly, I don't feel the need to tear the guy down, and I don't feel the need to specualte about his orientation. Homosexuality doesn't preoccupy my time. If you are going to waste time posting about Cruise's sexuality and that the NFL is gay, and how you do so well with the women, then you have issues. You're really trying to prove your manhood aren't you?
-
Or else why obsess so much over his sexuality? apart from the fact that I really don't think he's gay, It isn't my buisness. I'm quite happy to tear him to shreds for vacuos performances, or egoistical movies (M:I2 I'm looking at you...) but his sexuality is none of my concern. Beyond that, most of you keep claiming you're not homophobic but if that was the case you would never mention it. It's similar to how an action movie with a women is marketed as that being the main gimmick, or one with a black man aiming at a more "Urban" vibe. Of courseit's really all you middle class white scumbags with no identity creating a culture out of pure image, peopling it with characters of your own imagination and then neglegting the real issue. Okay, I think I have some repressed anger issues to work through...

Snake, though I appreciate your attempt to "Open our Eyes"...
by fredo'sbrainfood
Sorry. Had to work the actual topic into this post, however lame it may be. As much as I try to consider nonviolence in relation to our current political climate, the more I can't see it accomplishing anything. The idealized concept that violence doesn't solve anything and that peaceful discourse is the solution doesn't work when you are dealing with those who have so little regard for the value of life. Bin Laden isn't waiting for a peace accord to get what he wants, and he isn't offering much assistance to his "cause," whatever that may be. As for the USA and its role as "the watcher?" I'll admit it is dissapointing that it took so much loss of life to even bring the concept of self-reflection and responsibility for our global actions to debate. However--and I know this is going to sound obtuse--if the nations that are so sick of the US and its "Big Stick" policing don't want us and our eeevil influence, by all means let's leave. Of course they would have to give up all the humanitarian aid, financial assistance, and armed security that I'm sure comes in handy.

Snake, I think it's quite all right to rip Cruise for being
by nflrefugee
I don't want you to think that I mean't it isn't ok to critique his performances. That is perfectly valid. It's technically all right to rip him for his personal life, but why bother? It's not our business.
-
What's up? While I find the issues of Cruise's sexuality, the current political climate, and even man milk/gravy fascinating on their own terms I actually wanted to talk about the movie. And if anyone here has suffered through "Open Your Eyes" (funny how they couldn't use that title. think about it) will be apprehensive about "Vanilla Sky" (a great title). I watched this movie 3 years ago and found it somewhat entertaining. I give it props for genre hopping but here's the big deal: it's a huge rip off of another movie and not a good one IMO. ****SPOILERS***** I don't know how anyone else feels but as far I could tell it's fucking "Total Recall". ALejandro rips off entire scenes. The three of us who went all noticed it. And knowing Cruise had already bought the rights we joked maybe he should get Verhoven to make it. The fact that Amenbar is a rip off artist was further confirmed by "The Others" where he ripped off "the 6th Sense". And from what I have seen Crowe lifted a lot of the original so it's just going to be a rip off of a rip off. Hopefully better written and directed as it IS Crowe but still... ***End Spoilers**** Anyhow, I guess the proof will be in the movie itself. But Frankly I heard Ocean's 11 kicks ass from my brother and I'm inclined to believe that after 2 misfires my boy Steve is back with a vengenance! Now that was a remake worth doing! I now return you to today's Man Milk show where the Topic is Osama Bin Laden. Is he Gay?

I have to vent... My roommate plays DMB NON-STOP and I'm freaking SICK of it. I hate DMB. nonono...I LOATHE the DMB. They suck. ALL THEIR songs sound the same with their crappy songs all having that lame lead singer who grunts and squeals...it's enough to make me puke. If you are a fan of theirs then DON'T BOTHER REPLYING to this....I will beat you into the middle of next week.

First principles, Know your enemy. It is increadibly naive to say that Osama Bin Laden and those who work with him have no conception of th value of life. They are freedom fighters, as they see it, and it ie better to die on your feet than live on your knees. Humanitarian Aid? That you can suggest that even, sickens me. There is more money tied up in a single missile strike on the urban centres of Afghanistan than there is in all the "Humanitarian Aid" you dropped on the rest of the country. Besides, It's all about revenge. If this was truly a war on terrorism, what about the many wild and dangerous factions in south america? Africa? Ireland? Why not put an end to the Khumer rouge? Why not depose Saddam? 5000 died 11/9/2001 100 000+have died, and are still dying at the hands of saddam and you have no idea. Is an american life worth that little bit more? thats rhetorical, it's obviously worth quite a lot more because your country is so much richer. Besides all this, I have no problem with the controlled use of violence, appropriate to needs and properly precise to achieve a goal against unreasonable opponents. The British Operation In Sierra Leon early this year is a fine example of how that works. Men, Soldiers, can differentiate between Hostiles and Innocents better than any missile I ever saw...
-
...I was agreeing with you dude(or dudette, you can never be too sure..) chill, bro(sis, whatever)...
-
I cannot read minds, but don't deny that AlQaeda does believe it is fighting the good fight against the immortal enemy. They are more than welcome to take their own lives for their cause. However, I feel that a fanaticism which denies life to an entire population it simply deems "an enemy" is lacking a critical element of "morality"-- a definition which is obviously another debate--will not be open to a heated discussion or peaceful resolution over smores and hot cocoa. You will come back and say, "we are doing the same to the people of Afghanistan." And you would be right. I'm sure someone in a bombed out village near Kandahar is wondering why we are bombing them as much as I question "who the hell is Bin Laden to declare war on me and why does he want me dead?" If one of Bin Laden's main "goals" is for an independant Palestine, how does the attack on 9/11 against a nation actively trying to gain that very thing through intelligent discourse help the process? Is there even any logic to reason with here? I really don't think so. Maybe it IS just as much revenge as it is a matter of "security." But in this case, I cannot think of another solution that would prevent another attack by HIM, at the very least. Of course I can't say I'll breath more than a slight sigh of relief when there are still hundreds of cells still operational. As for the other terrorists threats you mentioned, I clearly have no answer. I guess we'll see how devoted old W. is to the cause real soon, but to be honest, I won't be holding my breath. One more thing, I agree the "humanitarian aid" of this campaign is indeed laughable. I was referring mainly to the point that the US is constantly criticized as an evil empire, attempting to get its grubby paws on every nation it can. But how convenient is it just to forget how much the nation does give and just concentrate on the negatives. Just an American who is often ashamed, but also one who still thinks there are a few reasons to be proud.
-
Gosh, look at the movie poster. I can't believe a real man could be that conceited (and this is coming from a woman). Very unsexy.

Sorry, guys. Last post off topic. Forgot about Saddam.
by fredo'sbrainfood
Saddam is actually a good example of how the US cannot win the publicity battle with the world. The Gulf War will always be seen as an excuse to protect Kuwaiti oil as much as its people. The UN sanctions are quickly falling apart as other nations hope to cash in on the Iraqi markets, yet the US is heartless because it still hopes on curbing some of Saddam's international influence. If a threat is laid to Iraq now, it will be deemed an attack against Islam. The United States can do no right in the eyes of the world.

If Nicole was a marriage of convenience for PR reasons, I guess it WAS GOOD PR. Even my girlfriend and her friends who have probably been dreaming about Cruise since Top Gun now think the guy is in serious denial about his heterosexuality. The funny thing is I probably like the guy more as an actor now than she does. One of these friends saw VS and as one post above, couldn't even describe how bad it was. I think I may have to see Vanilla Sky by myself.

Wait a second Keisereela, I didn't know part of the actor
by sloppy slacks
Give me a break. For one, isn't Tom supposed to be a cocky asshole in this movie. Two, the one-sheet shows Tom in a dream-like sky, looking back instead of forward -- I think that portrays the movie pretty well, don't you? Three, Tom had no part in coming up with the one-sheet except for maybe 1 publicity shot, so how can you judge his real-life personality on it. And Four, uh, well, there is not four, but I didn't feel like going back and erasing the text I already typed. Anyway, NFL and Snake both make good points, and all of this shit about Tom being gay is just petty rediculousness (sp?). Spend your time watching and critisizing movies, not making up rumors about a good actors personal life. I'm done.
-
...Which it just as well may. It's a remake of Amenabar's incredibly successful OPEN YOUR EYES film, which totally dominated the Spanish awards and box office that year. OPEN YOUR EYES isn't a MATRIX knock-off, it gave birth to the genre, allowing for big "faux-reality" films to get made by big studios, such as FIGHT CLUB and THE SIXTH SENSE. OPEN YOUR EYES is a very important film, which is why I'm glad new mainstream audiences will be exposed to the film. I just hope Tom Cruise's fan base doesn't kill the film with their inability to comprehend a film which is designed to provoke and stimulate. EYES WIDE SHUT failed at the box office, so this one might too. It's going to be a great film; just don't start calling Crowe a sci-fi genius. It's Amenabar's story.
-
First, I will reiterate the point that Tom Cruise's sexuality is important in no way.
Argument and Reasoning 101:
Beliefs are based on evidence. Utterly ridiculous like the following "Tom Cruise is a raging queen. I think if he had any balls at all he would come out and let his disco rainbow free" are fictions invented by people with psychological motives I'd rather not speculate over.
Yeah, a "raging Queen" who has been married two times. Ah, maybe he married to "throw people off the scent." Sure, that's possibility - but what EVIDENCE do you have to support such a claim?
The same "Raging Queen" who shot the rock climbing scene in Mission Impossible:2 seven times?
Oh, if you say so.
I guess Nicole Kidman has been sexually deprived for the last ten years. You know, Tom wasn't giving her any "gravy" or "man-milk." His sexual affairs, I'm sure, have been documented in prestigious periodicals like _National Enquire_ and _Star_ many times over, but nothing about the wife gettin' a man-whore.
It's also odd how friends would describe Kidman's state after learning of the divorce as "heart-broken."
And, of course, I'm sure the divorce had something to with Mr. Cruise's sexuality, right? It had nothing to do with common property laws in the state of California and the fact he'd lost tens of millions of dollars if they divorced just one year later. No, that would probably make too much sense.
I'm curious how can form such strong opinions on such little evidence (in fact, no evidence at all).
Ah, but as Hume observed several hundred years ago, "The wise man proportions his belief to the evidence."
You are no wiseman, obviously. -
There's a website which predicts box office returns. Too bad I lost the URL. If memory serves, they said Vanilla Sky is expected to make 138 million dollars.
Ocean's Eleven is expected to bring in 120M. LOTR, 220M etc.
Anyone know the site off hand?
Hopefully a lot of people will see this movie. Spanish Dude's (I forget his name) American version of _The Others_ grossed nearly 100 million dollars.
It seems like a provocative film. I'll see it.
