Trailer for Robert Altman's GOSFORD PARK is up!

Published at:  Nov 28, 2001 9:24:15 AM CST

Hey folks, Harry here... and here's the link to the new Clive Owen flick... I mean, Robert Altman film. We've had a couple of reviews of this one and both kinda liked it. They weren't flawless raves, but they showed more promise than many of Altman's latest films have delivered. And with the subplot about Charlie Chan.... well, I'm there. here ya go...

    High-Brow 'Murder By Death'....

    by ericalan69

....which isn't a bad thing at all. When Altman is good, he's un-toppable, and this looks like it'll fall under that category. He certainly gets great casts, and uses them *much* better than Woody Allen (who's a fucking hack anymore), and even if the film fails, it'll be worth seeing just for the people who are in it. I haven't really been swept away by Altman's last few films, but have high hopes for this one. // e.

    Love Altman

but what the hell is Ryan Phillipe doing in one his movies. Hopefully the presence of Stephen Fry will cancel out any bad juju because Phillipe's in the flick.

The original maverick just keeps on going!

I wish he had had just few more "McCabe and mrs. Miller"s (about the greatest "western" ever), but hey I'm there whenver this bad boy delivers. As to Woody being a hack...well, gimme Altman and Allen anyday over the likes of (cue the usual suspect list) Sena, Bay and West. Okay, ridiculous of me to even compare these guys to each other but what i'm trying to say, I guess, is that working (mainly) outside "the system" has produced great films for more than 30 years. I mean, "indie" was not invented in the 90's.

    Good old Ryan

Phillipe is actually worth his money in this! He has the piss taken out of his accent all the way through.
Stephen Fry is a genius. Definately one of Altman's most interesting.

    altman is back baby

    by tokyodrifter

this is definitely altman's best film in years. i know he's been obsessed with renoir's rules of the game & this film is actually worthy of that one. the whole cast is incredible (clive owen plays a key role) & don't worry about ryan phillipe - he's used well - acting as eye candy for alot of the servants and guests - who subsequently get annoyed with him for reasons you'll find out later. i'd say helen mirren was the standout though. she had the most poignant moment in the movie. glad to see the maverick back in form.

Lets hope Altman hasnt lost his bite

oh man, is there a more perfect project for Altman, the quintessential genre destroyer, than stuffy and pretentious English period pieces? I'm a little worried though, because the trailer doesnt seem to be mocking the generic conventions of period drama, but merely using them. Hopefully, beneath the surface of the routine trailer lies another Altman gem.

The most overrated director in history

    by ragged robin

Let's face it-he is. "The Player" sucked, the only reason people remember "M*A*S*H" is because of the TV show, and "Dr T and the Women"? He's just one of those critics darlings that real people don't like and somehow get a free pass.

Altman can go suck a ripe sausage

    by drak_tanner

This jackass blamed September 11th on violence in movies, can you believe that shit? I've decided that someone that ignorant and exploitive doesn't deserve my esteemed viewership anymore. I was already highly annoyed with the utter pretention of his films, but this straw broke my camel's back. You can keep your Altman, and yes, you too can go suck a ripe sausage!
