Something cool for Kubrick Fans!!!

Published at:  Jun 07, 1998 12:00:00 AM CDT

Folks, I don't usually do this, but quite frankly this was too cool not to put up. This is a level of DUKE NUKEM designed after the
Overlook Hotel in Stanley Kubrick's THE SHINING!!! Too friggin' cool if ya ask me. I'm running on 3.11 right now, so I can't play it, but in
a week or so my new system comes together and you bet I'll check this baby out. Not news, but something cool for ya anyway...

i found something that i thought was so incredibly cool, i just had to
send it
to you. now, you must be a fan of stanley kubrick's THE SHINING, right?
well,
there's a guy out there in cyberspace who spent a year of his life
(pathologically, i'm sure) creating a level of DUKE NUKEM' (yes, i know
it's
just a game) that is nothing but an utter recreation of Kubrick's The
Overlook
Hotel. if you are a fan of the film in any way, i swear you will get a
kick
out of this. it is extremely well done, better than any other duke nukem
level
i have seen (including the original games'), and it is detailed down to
the
photos on the walls, the tapestries, soundbytes from the film, music,
etc.
ahh, the magic of computers...

anyway, this game devotedly captures the spirit of the film to the point
where
i was scared shitless when i rounded the corner of a hallway and the
twins are
standing there. seriously, you get to kill jack torrance (or try) over
and
over. there are so many neat ideas in it, i could easily drop all the
spoilers
right here on you to get you to check it out. but i won't. i'm stopping
right
now.

it is quite simply one of those things where, the entire time i was
experiencing it, i was saying: "Cool!"
