HERC Has Seen Tonight's 24!!

Published at:  Nov 20, 2001 11:54:11 AM CST

SPOILER ALERT !!

24 1.3 FAQ

What’s it called?

“2:00 AM - 3:00 AM.”

Who’s responsible?

Same guys who crafted last week’s script: Joel Surnow and Michael Loceff.

What does TV Guide say?

“Jack asks York to stay with Teri at Janet's car; Mandy tries to fix her partner's error; Jack picks someone to trust; Palmer meets with a confidant (Zach Grenier) who assures him “I'll take care of it.” Gaines: Michael Massee. Bridgit: Kim Murphy. York: Richard Burgi. Rick: Daniel Bess.”

When does it air??

9 p.m. Tuesday. Opposite “Roswell.” And “Smallville.” And “Frasier.” And “The Guardian.” And “NYPD Blue.” (But, happily, Fox is now repeating episodes on Friday for those without five VCRs.)

What is TV Guide not telling us?

We learn tonight what the reporter told Palmer in the pilot.

Is the senator routinely fouling members of his staff?

No. And we get to see a new side of Palmer when he confronts a pair of passing ne’er-do-wells in a parking garage.

Is Nina really dirty?

If she is, it’s not because of her keycard. If you know what I mean.

Are Mandy and Motorcycle Girl sisters?

No.

Does Mandy get naked some more?

Sadly, she does not. Equally sad: tonight may be the last time we see Mandy.

Do we learn why Jack needed that thumb?

He needed its thumbprint it to ID its owner, the shooter!

So who’s the shooter?

We don’t learn. His thumbprint is not on file.

Do things grow uglier for Kimberly and Janet?

Lots of action for the girls this week. The fun starts when the guys inject Janet with something to make her not care so much that her arm is broken.

What’s going on with York and Teri?

They’re mostly off screen this week, but their story kicks into high gear with next week’s sweeps finale.

Herc’s rating for “24” 1.3?

Possibly the best new show of the season

    by darth tater

Not sure yet if I like 24 or Alias better. Alias is great every week, but I have no idea where 24 is going and so far it's been great. Ok, that made no sense, but they both rock! Praying the network execs will spread out their great shows next year so there's stuff to watch on every day of the week, not just Tuesday ;)

Whenever someone says "the best new show of the season"

    by stile

    it makes my asshole pucker.

This being said, 24 has really surprised me. Let's just hope it can keep up the pace and tension for the next 22 shows.

    i like it

    by cityofnight

I like 24 and I've only seen half an episode. I really like the split screen stuff and multiple angles. I won't catch it every week though. I'm just going to save my time and buy the Season 1 box DVD set when it comes out and watch it in a single 24 hour sitting.

Why are people praising this stupid show?

    by mister nobody

I watched the first two hours and won't be wasting any more time on it. Kiefer is cool, but the show is beyond preposterous already and I don't care what happens to any of the characters. The show got heaps of critical acclaim for its pilot episode, as if it was something groundbreaking, but it's more of the same ridiculous, credibility-stretching action we see in every summer Hollywood show crossed with the brain-numbing tangled plotlines of the X-Files conspiracy that ruined that show.

    24 spanks me sideways....and i like it!

    by varakor

I would agree with Christopher, this does use the timecode format, very very nicely.(enjoyed time code by the way) I love this 24 series and for once all the hype was true...so far. I'm looking forward to tonights show. and if this series is put out on dvd, i hope extra footage is added (naked mandy anyone? anyone?)

    Finally!

    by ensign throwaway

At last, somebody else that doesn't like "24"! I've watched all the episodes thus far and I really don't see what all the fuss is about. Where's all those great plot twists that Herc keeps rambling about? Everything I've seen so far has been pretty predictable. I keep waiting for this show to get interesting...

    I also agree, HIGHLY overrated

    by ginta1971

I had such high hopes for this series, they were crushed about 10 minutes into the first episode. After 2 episodes, I'm done. This show is predictible, retreaded conspiracy crap. (Has anyone stopped for a moment to relaize just how many people are involved in this damn plot? Down to 2 stoner kids????!!!???? PUH-LEASE) If this show had focused on just one story line, the assination of Palmer, I might have enjoyed it more, but with all these damn subplots it just totally destorys the momentum of the show for me.

    by carmillavondoom

Whats up with that?? MUCH better
    show than 24...although 24 is
itself superior to most crap on TV
    these days.

I was the one reviewing Gilmore Girls, and it has been unavailable to me for the past two weeks. I ASSURE you, i have no intention of dropping these reviews. Its like the end of last year when Buffy became un available. It SUCKS, and I, for one, dont like it! Smallville was also unavailable for me to review this week. Sorry.

    Yes, definitely overrated

    by jack d. ripper

Intriguing premise ultimately reduced to gimmicky use of split screens, clock title card, etc. No emotions and YES, no concern for what happens to these people. Sutherland's cool as always, but that's no surprise. Everyone else is colder than a witch's clit, unemotional(especially that creepy, dead fish, androgynous wife-yecch!-no wonder he went behind her back)All hopes for the show were also crushed for me within the first ten minutes. And no, I don't think the naysayers will be "with it" after episode 6. If something begins well, it usually stays well. If something begins poorly, the same's true. This IS some pretty predictable stuff. Does "Six Feet Under" count for this season, because if it does, THAT is the best new show of the season, and a worthy successor to "The Sopranos" sigh...if only someone would give Kiefer Sutherland a great kick-ass comeback role. That'd be great.

24 kicks ass, better than most movies I saw this year

    by retrorecroom

This show keeps getting better and better in my opinion. And for those who say the "ratings stink" you are sadly mistaken. This show has a higher Nelisen than any other Fox drama currently, including that popular skinny lawyer in mini skirt show. Keep up the good work Fox, and please edit out Jar Jar for Sunday's showing of Star Wars.

  • Here we go again. A bunch of people say it doesn't have style, it's too hard to follow, the split screens are lame, everything is predictable. That last comment I made covers the majority of the negative talkbackers so far. Who are you? GOD? Do you have special powers to see into the future? If you think you know what's going to happen, you may be correct in assuming so and you don't have to watch. Stop watching it dammit! Is Jack going to go lone-gunman on those bad guys because he is on the run from his own people. Am I right? I don't fuckin know dammit! You guys make me sick. This show gives me a good anxiety attack. I like it, and you can't do anything about it. Adios you uptight banochas.

    I don't care, I loved tonite's episode...

    by led gopher

and am really liking this show. I was on the edge of my seat all during the chase scene with the girls. Well not exactly, I was sitting (more-so laying) on my bed, and it would be kind of wierd to keep scooting forward more and more. Eventually, I'd end up pulling the sheets down, and then would have to go and re-make the bed and then I'd... Oops! Sorry got a little carried away there, but yes this show is amazing, and again I say, Ok we all have the right to our own opinions, and we have the right to voice them, but if you don't like something, then don't do it, and quit ruining it for those of us who do enjoy it.

    Is it now the law?

    by mustangmatt

Why is it that every television show now it seems has a gay storyline? I mean, my god, does every show have to force this lifestyle down America's throat?

Come on, folks, even Ellen understands that America is tolerant of the gay life, but doesn't want it shoved down it's throat.

    Enough is enough.

And before you break out the flame throwers, understand that I don't hate gays, not in the least. I have friends who are gay and family as well.

I just don't like it being shoved into my face when I'm looking to escape the real world.

I KNEW those women were working together

    by mgthedj

The reason to show they were a couple was to show the stupidity of motorcycle girl: you know someone who works as an assassin and you follow them to a job? YOU WILL DIE! Mandy's whole demeanor in the ep. was she knew her girlfriend was doomed. The use of 2 stoner boys possibly shows how low on resources the neo-Nazi movement really is, and gives the masterminds a cover: no cops will believe the boys when they tell the truth. This hour also is a warning: if you are a cop, FBI, or CIA, don't shelter your kids. If you do, and something bad happens, they will make stupid decisions (why didn't they head for the control tower--and if it was to set up the girl's accident, that's was bad writing).-----later----m

    by zachsmind

Kiefer's working for the government somehow. They know someone's gonna try to kill the senator, who I think is the black guy but I'm not sure, that dude who was the bad secret service agent in the movie Air Force One is a bad guy again but Kiefer knocked him out and did stuff which went over my head. Then he ran off to save this other guy who gave him a keycard but died anyway. Meanwhile the cute young blonde chick's on a date with guys who are insane. And her mother's looking for her with this other guy. So I've been watching but ...how is this good TV?

    Mandy double-crossed her girlfriend!

    by no. 41

Another hour has gone by ...

    by cuttingroomfloor

and now Mandy is GONE. :sniff: I think I'm gonna cry. Anyway, thanks to all the nay-sayers out there: it keeps the TB interesting. It would be more interesting if you'd back up your drivel with some solid reasoning, but I digress. No. 41, Mandy did not doublecross her friend, her friend doublecrossed her! Mandy thought her friend could be trusted as an assistant. She was dead wrong and almost paid with her life! This show is moving along quite nicely. I think it's great the way that Bauer's anxiety forced him to jump the gun on his investigation about Tina, thus driving a wedge between them, and right when he needs all the people he can on his side! And the thug confrontation scene was great too. Almost makes up for the stupidity of Palmer scooting out without security in the first place. One criticism though: Does anyone else think that Sutherland sound like he's asleep when he introduces the show each week? The following ... Zzzzz ... takes place between the hours ... Zzzzz ... of 2 and 3 a.m. on the day of the ... Zzzzz ... California primary ... :snore:.

    Dialogue Audio Problems

    by redbeard_nv

Great! Now I know I'm not alone in thinking that whoever mixed the sound was a lead hand when it comes to the music track. I have had to kick on the TV's Closed Captioning device for the past two episodes in order to catch dialogue that was whispered just low enough for me not to hear it above the music or foley effects. Where are they getting their audio people, MTV?

    timecode?

    by the wallace

I hate this "realtime" gimmick. It takes MUCH longer to heat heroine (or whatever that was)then 3 seconds. he even had it in the needle. THEY'RE CHEATING!!!

    Reply to Talkback

  • Unless you have inside knowledge, that is...I read it THIS way: Mandy knew she couldn't shake her friend's attempt to squeeze more money...so when she went to tell them to double the money by herself--making it look like she was looking out for her friend--she told them to fake the $$$ transfer, then go out to the desert and get the card, and blow her away. That's what I got from it, anyway. They almost double-crossed the double-crosser by threatening to blow Mandy away...something tells me Mandy will be seen again...the two may have been "friends," but Mandy thinks nothing of blowing up an airplane in flight, so she probably wouldn't think anything of having her lil nose-ring wearing squeeze (pretty hot in her own right, BTW) snuffed out...time will tell...you know you've been reading Harry too long when you use that many ellipses...one more for good measure...

No. 41, we're not too far apart in our views ...

    by cuttingroomfloor

Here's my take. MotoGirl has the ID. She was supposed to deliver it for $500K. That was the DEAL that Mandy made with HER. When MotoGirl asks for $1M apiece, she is not only screwing the folks who want the ID, but also Mandy, since Mandy trusted her to work THEIR deal. When MotoGirl insists on $1M with Mandy, she knows it's all over for MG (you can see it in her face). Mandy then goes alone to see if she can save her own skin. At which point the price for her life becomes participation in the "Summer Job" that she refused eariler. Don't believe that Mandy got paid extra to betray MG! Who knows? Perhaps Mandy got paid nothing at all as she placed the operation at risk! They could have easily said: "You get us that ID or you'll be dead too." It's not clear from the episode.

    24 got me

    by prof. pop-cult

I admit that I was turned off by the hype and gimmick surrounding this series before it premiered. But I taped the premiere anyway and watched it one night. It's grown on me. Although I find I don't care about any of the characters, I find that what they're going through and the actions they're taking to be more interesting, which I gather is the whole point of this series anyway. Oh, and as for what they'll do if the series is renewed for another season, the idea the producers have is to have another, completely different case which is played out over a span of 24 hours. Season 1 focuses on the Palmer assassination. Season 2 would focus on another event. BTW, I read somewhere that the actual assassination attempt will happen in the 13th hour, but if the series gets a full order, the plot will veer off in another direction. (Perhaps Palmer gets hit and is rushed to a hospital where doctors race to save his life. Meanwhile, Jack and his team chase down the assassins.)
