Fricking Fantastic EPISODE 2 Trailers!!!! THE NEW ONE!!!! IT IS UP!!!! IT IS BRILLIANT!!!!
This trailer kicks so much ass... I have to watch it 1000 times... be back later with thoughts...
GO GET IT!!!
Now this looks like Star Wars. I know it is easy to hate and spit venom and feel hurt by the let downs of Ewoks and Gungans. I know that the dream of a space opera had fallen by the wayside. Folks... Let that go.
That trailer is awesome. It is. I like the story arc that we see there. The romantic dialogue, well it is necessary. Is it stilted for you? Well, I suppose if your way of being romantic is, "Bitch strip, I'm ready to fuck!" Well that is more natural in the neanderthal mating variety, but in a situation where there is a vow of celebacy in a sacred order, in a relationship between a bodyguard and the person he is supposed to protect, within the framework of a forbidden love. A love that comes with a heavy price. Frankly folks, this is coming across quite well. That's the situation.
What I like is the fact that Hayden Christensen actually looks quite a bit younger than Natalie Portman. I can imagine her as being in her late 20's and Hayden as being 18-19 or so. That was something I was particularly worried about.
Now there is a cheat here... Using Han and Leia's theme from Empire during Anakin and Amidala's scenes... that's dirty pool. But I have to say, I have liked the previous two trailers. I LOVE THIS ONE. I love this one in a severely intense manner.
The others didn't feel right. They were not bad, they were quite good, but they didn't give me goose pimples.
As for those below that are trying to understand why they are reacting as strongly as they are to this trailer... It is quite simple. You are at this site because you fell in love with Star Wars. You saw these films when you were a kid, and these were the films that made you say, "I LOVE MOVIES!" They were the films that made you pick up STARLOG, CINEFANTASTIQUE, CINEFEX and so on. Star Wars was the first action figures you had, the first character sheets you remember sleeping in, the first gumcards you collected. It was the gateway drug of choice into being a geek for so many of you.
I was already a geek at the time, but it pushed me all the way over the edge. I love STAR WARS, not in the trivial way, not in the abusive husband sort of manner, but in that way that is forever. I think we fight with it, it makes us pissed, but it makes us care. One way or another, we have to have it be perfect. Like when we were young. My god, I turn 30 in less than a month. Star Wars has been with me 26 years. That's a long relationship. There were only 4 years of my life that did not have Star Wars in it. 85% of my life has had STAR WARS, and that percentage is only going to grow.
I look at this trailer and I see STAR WARS

That rocked, shut up and like it. Wow, Wow, Wow!!!!!!
-
yeah, it was pretty great. the new anikin can't act for shite, though. just my 2c. Read PC Gamer magazine!
-
wasn't first (had to register) and spelled Anakin wrong! my life is such a sham....
till may 16... -
Why can't Lucas extract any passionate acting out of these actors who have done great work in the past?
-
That was quite something. If George can maintain that tone for the whole movie... we have a winner! Not that I'm complaining... but where's Jar Jar? As annoying as he was, having him just vanish isn't really right either...
-
This last trailer has raised the bar. It will be better then the Phantom . . .It will be better then the Phantom . . .It will be better then the Phantom . . .I JUST KNOW IT.
Way to go George
Kick Ass -
The acting is much improved. I don't get what you people are crying about Hayden looks like he is doing a great job. Screw you guys.
-
Attack of the Clones is going to kick so much ass. I have even gotten used to the title. Yoda has really come alive. And was that Palpatine shocking Anakin? He sure likes to pick on those Skywalker kids, doesn't he? Natalie Portman looks as amazing as ever, if not more so. I can't wait.
-
...damn slow servers...
-
Anakin was striking at a Tusken Raider.
-
In that last shot Anakin is about to decapitate a Tusken Raider, I shit you not. But I don't want to enter any more spoiler material regarding that scene...
-
Looks like LOTR has some competition.Seriously though the trailor rocks.A love story set in the starwars universe looks even better then i thought and hayden christensen can actually act.Us starwars geeks might have ourselves a good starwars film for a change.

That link just goes to the Quicktime trailers page, which hasn't been updated in a historical epoch.
-
Now THAT has to be the BEST trailer I've ever seen!
Can't WAIT for the movie even MORE than now! -
Improved acting? Can we say stilted delivery? I've heard freshamn theater majors deliver lines better. Ack, it looks deplorable. Sure Ewan rocks. Sure Jango Fett kicks a whole heap of ass, but the delivery on the 'forbidden love' dialouge (not to mention the dialouge itself) is horrible, just horrible.
-
Sorry, I think it's Mace Windu! Look close at the head. I THOUGHT I saw a black-shaven head...
-
Huh, huh??? Help a poor Quicktime-Pro-less brotha out...
-
This is history repeating itself.Everyones getting carried away watching this trailer, just like Episode 1.It's too easy to look at clips and imagine the whole things going to be as good.I thought from Episode ones trailer that we were in for something a blot more *hard edged* than ROTJ ended up.Boy was I wrong!!.Think ,that theres 60 times or more the amount where seeing to the actual film..for all anyone knows .. every sngle frame outside of these clips released so far, features Jar Jar up to his unfunny business all over again.Think how much Jar jar featured in the Ep1 trailers ..compaired to actual movie time ratio,Thats a sobering thought isn't it????!I can see peaples childhoods, being raped all over again.Hee Hee
-
NOW, if only the movie will be like this trailer then we finally got some emotion and drama up in here with the kick ass action scenes. Still no Jar Jar to be found. Woo hoo!
-
Why, why, why does Lucas seem incapable of getting someone to write dialog that doesn't grate down your spine and make you want to break things? The concepts for this film seem sound, but the dialog is going to kill it. Worse than kill it, this thing is stillborn.
And what's up with Anakin throwing a Luke-tantrum? Is this a male Skywalker trademark?
Visually the thing looks fantastic...I guess that's some consolation... -
well, you know... the dialogue sucks, the characterization is off, i have doubts about pacing... oh i'm sorry this isn't LOTR. THIS IS FUCKING STAR WARS!!! AND THIS TRAILER FUCKING KICKED MY ASS!!! CHEWIE, GET ME THE HYDROSPANNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what a fucking line!!!!! this trailer fucking rocks the world!!!!! just looks incredible!!!! breathtaking!!!! amazing!!!! i just watched Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope a couple nights ago, and i'm proud to say that it is now my favourite of the series. for some reason, every other time i've seen it i missed something. i missed Lucas's genius, somehow. either way, this may not live up to A New Hope, but Attack of the Clones looks like it's gonna kick some seriously majorly crazy insane ass!!!! and of course... love that title!!!

Could this be the Star Wars I've been dreaming of since I was 10... Better than ESB??? Um... yes! please! WOW!

by intrigue_m26
I'm impressed, though I was impressed with the mystery trailor as well. Somebody get this on Morpheus immediately, I want to see the large version. I was very impressed with the backgrounds, especially the waterfall sequence. Although, I'm slightly skeptical... of Hayden's acting ability ( especially that tantrum fit ) and why not show a clear shot of Count Dooku; not this milli-second shot of him raising his lightsaber. We saw a better shot of Maul on the 1st teaser of Ep1. But all in all, I like what I see, what I hear, and on May 16, 2002... Lucas gets my $7.00.
-
Ok, the trailer has one problem: Not enough Count Dracula, uh, I mean... Christopher Lee. Just that one moment of him wielding the red lightsaber is enough to strike terror into anyone's heart. A great piece of casting on Lucas' part (probably making up for the horrible mistake of Jake Lloyd). Also what makes this one very commendable as opposed to the "breathing" trailer is that we all know that Anakin becomes Darth Vader. What we didn't get a glimpse of in the previous teaser was any sign of him turning to the dark side. Now with his tirade against Obi-Wan, we begin to see a clearer picture of the beginnings of his descent, as opposed to it merely being implied and understood. Kudos to Lucasfilm for giving to very good teaser trailers. I remember being awestruck by the trailers for ep 1, merely for the fact that it was the most anticipated film ever and that you got to see Darth Maul (I still revel at the double-bladed lightsaber). As I look back on them, I know that they're cool, but I can see where the mistakes were going to be. This whole episode smacks of being a much more atmospheric, darker film even with the romantic angle intertwined. But in the immortal words of The Who: "We won't get fooled again!)

Possible spoiler alert: The last shot of the teaser could be....
by intrigue_m26
I think the last shot of the teaser trailer is Anakin striking down a tusken raider, on tatoonie at night... if thats the case... then those reports of Anakin going into a tusken village and wiping everyone out ( confirmed they actually shot it ) might make it into the final print. Lets hope so. Also, whats bugging me... besides natalie's head gear during the waterfall sequence is the lame " I'll be the most powerful jedi, ever " or something like that. At least, its not the corny and campy " Can spiderman come out to play? "
-
I will NOT pay 30 dollars to see an advertisement.
let me know when it's ripped. -
After watching the trailer completely through the first time, I had to fast forward the player to about 2/3 of the way through (or at least untill I heard the Duel of the Fates music) to avoid the hackneyed and embarrassingly bad dialogue (and I know that I am not the only who decided to do this.) to where I could view the action sequences. I will see this film, but only for the visual effects and music, and certainly not for the exchange of dialogue that attempts to sustain it's so called plot untill the next use of a lightsaber is shown.
-
thanks for the link....this trailer is awsome..especially full screen! Nuff said
-
But there Jar Jar be!!! He's in the second scene, when Ewan introduces Padme to the new, all-grown-up Anakin. Look to the left of the screen, at the beginning of the scene, and there he is, looking uncharacteristacally regal in his robes. Oh well. I hope his screen time is a fraction of what it was in TPM.
-
I must have missed something. Let me go back and watch it again.
-
jesus.
condense this movie to the half hour of action scenes and ditch the days of our lives shit.
I like sappy romantic stuff, just not bad sappy romantic stuff. -
Steve Jobs needs my fuckin $29 more than I need to see the trailer.
-
Jar Jar is in there, though, and I don't much like that Watto fellow either. But we can be pretty confident, it's almost a certainty that this will be better than 'Phantom menace'. I got that from the plot summaries I've seen, and this trailer seems to confirm it. It looks like it quite closely mirrors 'Empire'. And great acting and brilliant dialogue ain't what these movies are about. The acting looks like it's adequate for a 'Star Wars' film.
-
The first scene where Obi-Wan greets Nat Portman you can see His Binksness to the left. -
'nuff said.
-
i don't care how bad you all think 'the phantom menace' is, i liked it quite a bit. and from these teasers i've been seeing for 'clones', i can't wait for part two to begin. as for that kid wiz that everyone predicts will be huge, star wars is still what i want to see the most!!!
-
Just saw "life as a house" and the man can really inhabit a role.
This trailer ROCKS, Casting, plot, tempo, and a wish this installment could be what Ep1 shoulda been. GO LUCAS! -
Wonder how much of the scenery is real, and how much digital? By the way, the Quicktime 5 player is free you nimrods. The 30 bucks is for the pro version, which you don't need to simply watch movies.
-
So far so good with the trailers ... Although I can't say I care for the "power coupling" scene from the "mystery" trailer; or the bad delivery of, "This is all Obi Wan's fault ..." of the "Romance" trailer. With that said though, is that really something that will ruin this movie?
This is a StarWars movie ... no matter how good or bad the trailers were, just about everyone will see it once.
For those who have nothing to do but complain ... you are fooling no one. You will end up seeing this movie ... and Lucas already has your money whether you know it yet or not. So, stop your bitching, sit down, and go see the movie (as you know you will) in May.
Lastly, just be happy that you have the opportunity to see another Star Wars movie on the big screen for the 1st time. -
hey i know this is starwars but someone asked so here it is.
http://home.att.net/~justice41/spidey.mov
hurry though because it will only be up till this time tomorrow. i'll try to get the goblin one up later. -
Again, not getting my hopes up, but... Check out the symbolism of Anakin riding his speeder in front of the sun, making a sillouete (DARK SIDE get it?!?). I'm willing to bet that he's on the way to de-crap-a-tate a few tuskins. Yeah, there may be a few stilted lines, and there isn't the easy back and forth here that we had with Han and Leia. It looks more like the beggining of an abusive relationship to me, which is actually pretty appropriate. Imagine the queen on cops... "Yeah, he's passed out under the trailer officer, he's been seduced by the dark side almost all day."
-
Patiently waiting ...
-
When Padme and Anakin meet for the first time.
-
Anyone notice that in the scene where Slave I is chasing Obi Wan's ship there is this blue sparkly stuff around Obi Wan's ship right when the shot begins? Could it be a force power?

Get QT Pro (which you can get freely, of course, if you are strapped). On the Apple website, right click on the Click To Play text and select Save As QT movie. Go to where you saved it, and open it up. The movie will start to dnld in its own QT player. After it's finished dnlding, click on Edit, choose Select All, then click on Edit, then Copy. THEN click on File, New Player. In the new player that opens click on Edit, then Paste. Finally, click on File and Save As, and choose the self-contained movie format (which is 27 MB in the case of this latest trailer). There's probably an easier way to do this.

by fitzy funk
Having made that obviously cynical statement, I love this trailer. Love it. Harkens back to everything I love about Star Wars. Great visuals, superb scoring, varied locations, bravura actions sequences, complicated plots, interesting performances, and a real palpable sense of urgency. Now having made that loving statement, it's obvious that the dialogue hasn't improved any. It's important to note that this *isn't* the actor's fault, but the writing (You can almost see Hayden *willing* all of the cheese out of a line like "this was all Obi-Wan's fault," to no avail. Is this just destined to be a part of Star Wars lore (at least it has been consistently bad?), or should have Lucas gone the full nine yards and gotten help with this problem? God knows there would be people willing to help for peanuts, if nothing at all but the experience of working on these films. Time will tell. But as for the present, this is an honestly proud moment to be a Star Wars fan, maybe the proudest since the moment before the screening of the good, but disappointing ROTJ nearly 18 years ago.
-
Freeze the frame with Darth Tyranus, Count Dracula, whatever his nameis, and you will see a very familiar outfit. Just place a helmet and chest plate on that cloak and fastener and you have VADER! I guess Anakin wasn't too busy getting his ass kicked to take a fashion tip from Mr. Lee's character.
-
the line "ANI?" makes me shudder. Alright, so I doubt it will be as bad as episode I, but I know it will not be in my list of favorite movies. Boba Fett looks awesome. And Yoda? Well I love him. Too bad I have no faith in this new trilogy.
-
Boy this looks bad.
Really bad. I heard reports that heyden christianson could act!!! What gives? That sucked. Natalie Portman didn't look any better. Lucas has again lowered the standards of Star Wars to that of a cheesy drama (or so it seems.) And since i doubt lucas is going to edit every scene of that trailer out of the movie, we better get ready for some more CHEESY SHIT from Mr. Lucas himself. Jar Jar might be gone but is Heyden any consolation? Not by the look of this trailer. Before you could defend Jar Jar as being "strictly for the kids, you know, the shitty sidekick character..." but Heyden's acting as the "main character" looks terrible. As a central character, there is no defense. -
Well you might as well have. The more I watch this steaming pile the more I don't want to see this bloated, dated, peice of shit!!! Lord of the rings is the new trilogy in town!!!!! Long live peter jackson!!!

by darthrage
I'm confused. This most definately is the Forbidden Love trailer. So what is the Black Eyes trailer. The first one was "Breathing", the DVD one was "Mystery". There was also a snapshot preview called "Choices." So where the heck is the "Black Eyes" trailer?! More to come?? Maybe attached to another movie?

After playing the streaming movie, do a search in the windows directory for any .mov files. One of them will be the trailer (it was saved as ep2_forbidden.love[???].mov on mine.)

This trailer kicked 15 levels of ass. May can't get here soon enough. For the record, I loved TPM when I first saw it and enjoy it even more after buying the DVD. Some people on here may have a problem with that, and to you guys I say FUCK YOU. I really think a lot of the negative reviews for TPM were b/c of weak-minded fanboys jumping on the negativity bandwagon. "Hey, it's cool to bash Episode I! Count me in!" Granted, it wasn't a perfect movie but there's only been 2 perfect movies in history (KING KONG & RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK). It was a great film, and I can sense that AOTC will be even better. My fellow SW fans, aviod spoilers at all costs. May 16 is coming.
-
Listen here you cynical assholes who doubt Attack of the Clones, you canot judge acting by a trailer. Dialogue is cut and pasted together for trailers. It is impossible to judge a performance out of he context of the actual film. Attack of the Clones is a garanteed success. I poop on those who dobt me.
-
...the acting was fine for me. Like someone else said above, these are lifelong politicians and Jedi. They're not suppossed to be all emotional. No Han Solo here at all, these are different types of characters. Natalie's acting was good and so was Hayden's. Before I get any flames for my opinions, know that I was raised on great cinema (JAWS, GODFATHER, ROCKY, etc.) so I know good acting when I see it. May the Force be with you.
-
Maybe it's just me, but Hayden Christiansen's characterization (as much as you can get of off a two minute trailer) legitimizes Jake Lloyd's performace in TPM. Jake Lloyd should thank him. That child-like tantrum? Perfect for a powerful Jedi who had his mother taken from him. Don't you think? Looks good. Can't wait. Until May, when we get Vader, we'll have to settle for "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named". No problems there.

Sure, it ain't Kasdan, but hopefully it isn't just some yes-man that Lucas surrounds himself with that doesn't have the balls to tell Lucas his dialogue sucks hard.
-
"Boba Fett looks awesome."
You mean Jango. Boba is a clone/present/son from Uncle Sidious. -
...I wouldn't say that, but the 'Forbidden Love' and 'Mystery' trailers are certainly a step up from the 'Breathing' trailer. Let's face it, I'm going to go opening day, even if the trailers were Jar Jar blowing Jabba; but I will say that I'm getting a feeling that we've got a better film than 'Phantom Menace', and possibly 'Jedi'. I doubt much of anything is going to replace 'New Hope' and 'Empire' for me; those were special experiences that cannot be replaced easily. But I live in hope...these are a step in the right direction.
-
You should just skip the first 90 seconds of this trailer. It is painful to watch. I know people say that the acting and writing is always mediocre with Star Wars, but never have I cringed at the lines delivered by any of the characters...until now. The visuals look great, and everyone's excited by the trailer---doesn't this ring any bells?!?! It's a carbon copy of what went on three years ago, when we were all convinced that Episode 1 would be the greatest movie ever. I was convinced then, but I'm not making the same mistake twice. Of course I'll go see it, if only for the lightsaber duels, etc., but I expect nothing more than a souped-up Fifth Element. That's about all this is.
-
Man, the dialogue is so damn flat. Sure its a bunch of pretty pictures, but George should never put pen to paper, and his words into capable actors' mouths. It's not much better than poorly dubbed anime. Try listening without watching the video. If the dialogue stands on its own without it.. well you get the idea.
-
I can't stay away from ripping on this peice of garbage. I'm sorry about the fact that this is movie will be terrible....Listen up everyone...MOVIES DO NOT START AND END WITH STAR WARS AND GEORGE LUCAS IS NOT THE KING OF ALL IMAGINATION AND CREATIVITY!!!!!
Sorry, I just had to get that out there....Anyway I know that the "real" dialogue will not be any better. I just hate the way he looks and acts, it's so dated. It looks like he's trying to pick her up at a bar and is trying out cheesy lines (but he's okay with it, he's "cool like that, like all ultra-cool kids today....yeah.) He's got that stupid, overly self-righteous, smirk on his face. It lingers too, he doesn't have enough ability to do a young darth vader (that sounds kinda weird but it's true.) Star Wars II starring an annoying frat guy!!!! -
I loved the trailer, I love Star Wars, I like Episode I.
I have to admit that the acting in this trailer wasn't too good though. Mildly better than Episode I level. The only big problem is Christenson, who is supposed to be the lead.
Portman was ok, definately better than her cardboard acting in Episode I.
Hayden Christensen was mostly bad, though. His better deliveries were on "we could keep it a secret" and "I've heard this lesson before". Everything else wasn't good, though. The worst were the "you've grown" line, "I'm sorry, m'lady" (which no one who has an American accent can make sound good, I'll give him that), and the "too frightened to tease a senator" line. The Obi Wan's fault stuff was bad, too. His looks are hit-or-miss at best. Sometimes his eyes just seem to say "I want to grab your ass".
Christensen looks pretty badass, though, with the dark getup and all. He's tall and stuff, as Vader should be. At least he has the appearance down.
However, I don't care too much about acting in Star Wars. I just want cool effects and action scenes.
I have to say that Ewan MacGregor's acting seems to have improved much, not that it was ever bad, but he seemed a little stiff in Episode I.
The CGI Yoda looks so much better than the muppet in Episode I. I think R2s performance is much better too. His blue accents look more shiny.
I think Episode II will be great, but I don't think the critics will be easy on it. -
Black Eyes = Forbidden Love. No revealing on the nice Scope copies sent to theaters what it's *really* called....
For a bunch of modern day, net-savvy, hardcore fanboys, y'all can't POSSIBLY tell me that you have actually PAID for QT5 Pro, or don't know a way to avoid this costly endeavour........
Jesus, people! What happened to old-school crackers!

Lucas is an effects director NOT an actor's director!!!!!
by dawndavenport
Those effects look great but as ALWAYS with Lucas the acting is poor and the story is secondary. You watch George Lucas movies to ooh and aah at the world he creates and NOT for the storylines or great performances. And these steamy piece of dung looks no different.
-
Slightly off topic... But only slightly:
On starwars.com there's this nifty little 'I, II, III, IV, V, VI' -thing, that changes from roman numerals to the episode title when you point to them.
'I' changes to 'Phantom Menace', 'IV' to 'A New Hope', and so on.
'III' is (of course) still inactive, but what puzzles me is, that when you point to 'II', it just changes to 'Episode II'.
You'd think that by now they would have gotten around to adding 'Attack of the Clones'.
I smell a last minute title-change.
I must stress, that this is NOT something that's been giving me ulcers... Though I AM intrigued. -
Natalie Portman, who I generally consider a good actress, delivers her lines like a Disneyland animatronic in this trailer. But Hayden Christensen is very convincing, in spite of the dialogue which sounds like excerpts from "The Bold and the Beautiful". I hope the story will be strong enough to make this movie a great one!
-
While I do very much enjoy the forbidden love plot (or what it is shaping up to be) and think it looks visually interesting, I have to agree with the cynics that the acting (especially from Christiansen [sp?]) is wooden and the dialogue is poorly constructed. Example: "Ani?! Is that you? My goodness, you've grown." "As have you: grown more beautiful, I mean" (or some such trite rubbish). The "Obi-wan is holding me back" and "most powerful Jedi" lines were delivered with all the conviction of an apathetic high school drama student. I know it's just a trailer so I'm not passing judgment on the whole work, but these dialogue-driven parts of the whole as shown in the trailer seem lacking in genuine emotion let alone passable dialogue. I know this isn't "Hamlet," people, but let's not allow shoddy delivery of equally shoddy lines to hurt movies (let alone movie trailers). On the plus side, Ewan McGregor's performance looks good. I still have hope for this movie, though it has waned a bit with this trailer. slack, Obi-Wan is always holding me back

How To Get (And Save) The Hi-Res Trailer In Quicktime With a Mac
by speed3
Forgive me if this is obvious, but I just discovered a way to view AND SAVE the new trailer with a Mac (and perhaps PCs too). I love Apple, but this latest Quicktime Pro scheme is really too much. That's why I encourage everyone to get the trailer any (free) way they can. This is how I did it in OS X (don't know about Classic OS):
(1) go to http://starwars.apple.com/ep2/forbidden/media/640/ep2_forbidden.love_m640.mov and wait for the trailer to load; (2) go to the Internet Explorer Temporary Files folder (located in Users/[Your User Name]/Library/Preferences/Explorer/Temporary Files); (3) drag the trailer file out of there and into a folder of your choice (the trailer will have a weird name, so just look for the file size, about 27.8 MB); and (4) rename the trailer as you like (add the ".mov" suffix just to be safe).
That's it. Just be quick, because the same type of address worked for a while for the "Mystery" trailer, but then didn't.
Good luck. -
Whoever it was that warned that the Ep1 trailers were good has it spot on. Those trailers (especially the full trailer, as opposed to the "teaser") gave the impression of a much darker and more intense movie. The use of Imperial March music no doubt helped a lot in conveying that impression. I still watch that trailer. Everytime it makes me wonder whether I missed anything when I watched the actual film. It darn near makes me stick the DVD in and watch it again just to make sure. Sad thing is, the film is never as good as the trailer. So I for one will not be using the trailer for this film as any kind of indication of the film itself. Lucas suckered me with Phantom, but I'll be saving my theatre dollar on this one, thank you very much.
-
The only question I have is where is all the acne on Anakin's face. This is one hormone-imbalanced kid. One minute he is trying to score, and the next he is throwing a tantrum. If that is the "force", fuck that. Really, I think the trailer shows it is a visual masterpiece. The pleasure in a Star Wars film is the visual representation of the story. I doubt there will ever be an Oscar winning performance in a Star Wars movie. I think the acting in this film is better than that BS Mark Hamill tried to pull off back in the day. The only thing I will miss in this film is Darth Maul, but that dilweed Obi Wan had to go and split him in half and pretty much ruin the suspense of him coming back for Episode II. To all the infidels out there, see you at the theater waiting in line May 16th. I know you are going to be there even though you are complaining here.
-
Unless you were running this site age 4 and had two years advance experience of Star Wars over the rest of us then, if you're age 30 this year, that would make you 6 in '77, and the "Wars" have been in your life 24 years, not 26 (and most likely only 20 years or so of "conscious fandom"). Pedantic maybe, but if you can't recall basic *facts* what hope do you have of us relying on your *opinions*? (not that it makes a jot of difference, natch - IT@S JUST A FRIKKIN MOVIE after all) But where's the objective Harry we used to know and love?
-
Okay, one thing about Lucas is that he is A) visual director..He's says this often on the DVD. The dialouge, and acting takes a secondary role in his movies. He knows that his audience respond to the visual clues. B) The acting-seems to be better. The first movie-Portman, McGregor and Nession were all playing characters who were emotionally restrained. Portman, especially was putting on the monoton queen voice that was used in Elezebeth. As pademe-she was a bit more "free" with her emotions. C)Lucas ideal of a hero is to be a controled non-reactive character. Much like the samuri films he enjoys so much...the emotional ones get killed. I think this will be a better movie-it is getting darker in the star wars universe...a little boy who brought hope to those who have none is going bad!
-
Wait just a secong, You aren't allowed to judge some of the acting of the film (and probably in the lucas camp - highly representative acting) but you are allowed to title this yet unseen film a visual masterpeice!?! Ha, what a sham. It's all bought. For the amount of money that is involved in this thing it must "look" good. Production value. That doesn't make it a visual masterpeice. The only thing that seems bewildering about these kinds of movies anymore (and starwars has officially joined the ranks of dumb big-budget hollywood movies....) is how much people are willing to spend on mindless entertainment.
-
Im getting excited about this in more ways than one, i tell ye. NUXX OUT.....

"I need your clothes, your boots and your speeder" - BAD TO THE
by weird v2.0
It impossible that the man who created those fucking ewoktubbies can create a badass. James Cameron should be directing this one. Don't be silly, us geeks, this is going to have some cheezy love as TPM had JarJarBeans.
-
I'm going to sleep now. Good night everybody
-
How about doing some geek reshearch first before you type down something that's incorrect. You could misslead alot of geeks out there including the stupid ass main stream press. Anyways it's "Priness Leia's theme" from A New Hope, thats all. Btw, If I had to judge between the Final "LOTR" trailer and this one, and you got to rememeber that the final Episode 2 trailer doesn't come out until March, I'll hands down give it to "AOTC"! This fucking trailer blew me away!!! Boy do those editors at Lucas Film know how to cut trailers or what! I'll definatley give it my vote for the best damn trailer of the year, by far.

Some of you out there are saying "darthy" those trailers are for those folks who has a DVD ROM and the $29.99 Quicktime Pro peeps, shame on you!" Well I say this, I used up my expansion slot for a 2nd harddrive so I can have someplace to store my immense softcore/hardcore mpeg and mp3 collection. I'll be damned if I buy a DVD-ROM just so I can see exclusive Episode 2 content, especially since I bought 4 VCD's, Episode 1 and the Original Trilogy, exactly a year ago. As far as the Quicktime Pro is concerned why the hell should I spend $29.99 for a registration/serial number when I can get one for free from www.cracks.am This has been darthpsychotic signing off saying: I'm half-american indian and November is a stressful time for my peoples (as is the other 11 months) dont' fuck around with me because I'm dangerous, motherfuckers. -

That's what this movie is going to be - one big stupid trailer. This movie has to be craftily sold becuase the acting is so terrible. Lord of the Rings is based on the writings of Tolkien, Star Wars is based on George Lucas's experience with his underlings telling him that he is a fucking genius every second of the day so they don't get canned!!!! You tell me what will produce a better story......

I though I had that one uploaded. I would upload it right now however it is 4:42am Florida time and peeps are starting get ready for work, which means I must be getting to bed. -
Can anyone possibly tell me how long after Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, does Star Wars Episode III, take place? It would be much appreciated. Thank You.
-
I was seriously underwhelmed by the romance stuff. I don't see much chemistry between the two of them, and the dialogue and acting are pretty poor. Natalie does look HOT though. I really fear that half of the film is going to be pretty unengaging stuff between Anakin and Padme. It wasn't until the action started that I got the old Star Wars feelings.
-
alright there "king" of talkback....do you equate how much money a film makes with the quality of the film? I guess by your logic then Titanic is by far the greatest film ever made (oh yeah and its even better than that crappy episode whatever film that came out a few years ago, whatever that was...) and also by this logic the fast and the furious, shrek, the mummy 2, and pearl harbor are cinematic gems as well.? The entire lord of the rings series wil be made, as will the star wars series. But don't you think Lucas should be using his autonomy to further cinema in some way and not just pad his pockets? That is my real big issue with this whole new star wars trilogy. Lucas could (excuse me, Should) be doing things in a new way. A dynamic way. Instead we get this crap. But then again it's the people that blindly eat up this kind of thing that allow the same garbage to me made year after year, even by respected and at one time resourceful people.
-
You tell him Mercier!!! SW-bashers...the day will come when you will bow to the God that is LUCAS. BOW BITCHES!!!!!!! That's right you're ass is George's. You'll be more his bitch than us loyalists because you're in such DENIAL, you're so tightly wound up waiting for the master to FUCK you up your fanboy asses......MAN, you can't even compare the job he's going do on you. At least we KNOW what is coming!!! We can prepare. But you unsuspecting fleas are going to get some RUDE AWAKENING. Hail to the KING Baby!!! That's right.......KING FUCKING LUCAS.

Hmmm......Well it certainly seems like you guys have youth on your side. I'm sorry I can't answer in a language you will understand but I guess that's all part of blind devotion. I'm sorry you can't recognize this as the installment in a series of endless dissapointments but oh well. Its your loss, people will continue to make poor movies as long as people go and pay to see them.
-
To quote the notorious BobTheGoon, sweet merciful crap. This trailer is so damn tantalyzing and intriguing that it is almost a sin. May is a long, painful wait.
Watching Anakin blazing through the Tatooine sands, all I could think of was his pod-racing roots. Indeed, he is powerful as the Emperor has foreseen.
I am so glad Watto is returning.
Where is Mace? We all know he has a lengthy duel. Bring it on!!
I like my sarlacc grilled. -
The reaction to the last LOTR trailer was FAR more positive than this. The number of "Peter Jackson is GOD" messages was unbelievable. And yet what do I see here? A large amount of people being UNIMPRESSED. Oh dear, you must be scared. Your precious Star Wars trailers just aren't kicking arse like you hoped.
-
Um, can i get a confirmation from you guys that are posting the links to the high-res trailers; do these trailers STILL require QuickTime Pro? cause i'll be buggered if i download thirty megs onto my hard-disk (with CRAP internet connection where i live) and find out i STILL have to get the PRO version..is the normal QT5 sufficient?
if they do, then i'd rather wait 'till movie-list.com posts them up, although after reading everything here, i can't wait that long!!
thanks.. -
First Lucas raped the original trilogy, now he is spoon feeding us this second rate shit. If George Lucas gave a damn about us fan boys he wouldn't have destroyed the original movies. People think!!------------------------ THIS ISN'T STAR WARS ------$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
-
Sorry for my lapse in the DARK SIDE kids, during my previous post (although everything I stated there is TRUE)....I think Harry made a mistake. What we were hearing during the LOVE portion of the trailer actually was the album version of LEIA's theme in ANH. I can see the mistake. Leia's theme never sounded so majestic during the film versions and the HAN/Leia theme in ESB is actually a SEQUEL to that original composition. Listen closely in the opening scenes between Han/LEIA in EMPIRE and see how it begins with Leia's theme and transforms effortlessly into perhaps the GREATEST love theme ever. Actually it would have been really stacking the deck if Lucas used this instead of the LEIA theme. (Not that the Leia theme isn't great too!!!)
-
The three trailers so far make AOTC look like good, cheesy fun with OK acting and dialogue and cool set-pieces. A film with those attributes doesn't quite cut it as "great" in my books. It can be great, dumb fun like Charlie's Angels, but I just can't see it as a life-changing movie experience. Having said that, this flick does seem better than Phantom Menace, which was horrible despite the low expectations in my part. I had read enough reviews to not to expect anything else than decent popcorn from PM, and still it disappointed me. *** Hopefully LOTR will be more than just "good fun" with multiple flaws.

...and frankly, I wasn't really impressed at all. I hate to say it, but damn Natalie is really bad. And the rest of the dialogue...oy. Watching it I began to wonder what was the last really damn good trailer I had seen, and I remembered something from several months ago. I just now an redownloaded the trailer promoting the theatrical re-release of SUPERMAN: THE MOTION PICTURE and watched it again. I swear to you the god damn thing gave me a chill and made my hair stand on end with Reeves roar at the end. Seriously one of the best damn trailers in years and Warner Bros. dumps the whole damn thing. I still don't get it. THE EXORCIST made $50 million and it's an R-Rated flick. SUPERMAN coulda made double that since it was family fare and they just threw it away. God damn they blew it.

Click on FILE, click on Save As.
Screw Kazaa, save the bandwidth for goat porn. -
Come on guys, it's obvious!
At the end of the trailer it's Samuel L Jackson who is about to be decapitated. Tusken Raiders my ass!
Remember the earlier trailer, with Anakin slumped against those same rocks after being struck with the Force Lightning?
That's Mace dishing out the Jedi Justice. Anakin finally embraces the darkside and lops his head off which will make one helluva cliffhanger.
Just accept it guys, here's where the Jedi start to fall one by one. -
If you can't think of somehting nice to say....
You know, I take it back, the dialouge is not deplorable, it's simply mediocer. And that's fine, most movie dialouge is, but the delivery? Oh good holy Jesus, it's ridiculously bad. I's B-Movie bad. No, I don't buy that 'they're diplomats...." excuse. It really is just terrible.
And the worst part? None of the actors are intrinsicly bad. Some of them are even good. How does one make a good actor look like a stumbling amateur? Ack.
Sure, I'll check it out for the eye candy. But really, how many of you plan to wait in a line for this? -
I'm probably the only person on this talkback that runs NT4.0, but just to let everyone know: The trailer is not streaming for me, I have no problem saving it, and when I download the bootleg large version, it has trouble playing.

GavManutd- That isn't Mace Windu. Or at least, Mace Windu isn't the one shooting force lightning in "Mystery".
I did a comparison of the lightning scene in "Mystery" (scene A) and the pre-beheading of "Forbidden Love" (scene B). I discovered a number of things.
1) In scene A, Anakin is not wearing his robes. In scene B, Anakin is wearing his robes.
2) In scene A, the rocks Anakin falls on are very jagged and brownish colored. In scene B, the rocks behind Anakin are smooth, bumpy, and gray-purple-ish.
3) In scene B, one can make out a light, tan colored area beyond the rocks. That could be desert peeking through. At the very least, it shows that Anakin is not in a cave.
4) In scene A, Anakin is holding a lightsabre that has a smooth dull-gray shaft and then a short, less wide cylindrical segment at the bottom. I would presume that this is the green-bladed lightsabre that Anakin is wielding in "Breathing". In scene Anakin is wielding a blue lightsabre with a shaft that has black vertical segments and almost no segment on the end.
Therefore, these two scenes are probably not from the same sequence. If Mace is the one being struck down, which is doubtful because of the desert background, than he isn't the one shooting the force lightning.
On an unrelated note, I noticed that the assassin droid looks very much like a miniature Sith Infiltrator with squashed dimensions. There are tall, curved, TIE-fighter-ish fins and an elongated fore section. Both are connected to a spherical mainbody. -
SLY MOORE!!!
P.S. I like the trailor alot! -
Be worried friends. Be extremely worried. The dialogue only helps to prove my fears from Episode 1 - that Luca can't write an emotional scene for shit! Take Anakin's leaving scene in Episode 1. Anyway - that's not all you've got to be worried of. Look at the trailer again. When Obi Wan reintroduces Amidala to Anakin - look to the left - who's that standing at the back?
Come on now, speak up, what's your name?
Meesa Jar Jar Binksaaaaa.
Warned you. -
Okay, I'm sure it'll make a great plot device, and in fact I'm really marking out over this flick....
BUT COME THE FUCK ON!!!!! Just like that Midichlorian nonsense, this seems like something REALLY FUCKING IMPORTANT that you'd figure Ben and/or Yoda would have taken a couple minutes out of Luke's busy training schedule to at least mention in passing, if it's something the Jedi held so important.
In fact, this seems like to tie in to the midichlorian rubbish. Think for a minute: where does someone's midichlorian count come from? Their parents. Remember, Qui-Gon wanted to know who Anakin's father was. So it makes sense to assume a person's midichlorian count is either the total or the average of their parents' counts. If the Jedi don't bump uglies, they'll die out!!!
See George, wasn't giving the Force a scientific context a really fucking stupid idea?
Oh well, like I said, the flick looks just fucking awesome, this is just going to be a nagging problem in the back of my mind unless it's properly explained - maybe in the Ultra Deluxe Final DVD Special Edition of the classic trilogy? -
If it's true you have to commit the unnatural act of celibacy in order to be a jedi, then my boyhood fantasy has come to a very screeching and crumbling halt. You have to be celibate like a fucking monk to be a jedi? No wonder Anakin turned to the dark side. Shit. So would I. You've got Amadila around you looking and smelling good and you can't hit it? FUCK THAT!!! Someone please comment on the jedi celibacy thing. Is it true?
-
Respect to VictorC for the indepth analysis of the lightning/beheading theory, ok,not the same scene. However in the first trailer we see Obi-Wan and Anakin together, both tooled up. Obi-Wan has a blue lightsaber, Anakin a green one.In, no doubt, the final scenes of the film where Anakin fights Dracula he has a blue saber. He also has the blue saber in the beheading scene. I conclude that Obi-Wan gets a kick-in from Dracula, loses his lightsaber, as does Anakin.Anakin reclaims the blue saber and fights on.So,it can only be Windu who he beheads.Tuskens appear earlier.
-
I posted my large version Quicktime 5 trailors today, I have all 3 online, they're listed under the file name from the offical webpage. Personally I luv every single one of the Star Wars movies.. Jar Jar didn't bother me either.. =) I think that this recent trailor Forbidden Love, was done perfectly. The temper tantrum that Ankakin has was great I think, it shows his immaturity and gives us a glimpse of his instability and anger that eventually leads to his turn to the Dark Side. Natalie Portman, hello.. um HOT!! the CG, was flawless. Jango Fett.. we all know that he's gonna steal the show. Seeing Christopher Lee lighting that red lightsaber, OMFG!! and the 1st shot we see of Anakin and Amidala kissing, I had goosebumbs and chills run up an down my spine.. I can't wait until May..
-
Anakin's saber throughout the movie is the blue one, the green one you see him with is one he has recovered from a fallen Jedi in the Arena scene, after his blue one was taken from him upon capture...
-
Is it suddenly not possible to both look forward to LOTR and Star Wars episode II? Do you have to decide which one is going to suck and which one is not? Wouldn't we all win if both movies became examples of cinematic genius?
I can't understand why someone like George Lucas is bashed so thoroughly by people, who call themselves star wars fans. Some were disappointed with the first episode - I respect that (like you really care :-)), I can see why some would hate it. I liked it - actually a lot, because it showed a time where almost everything was goody goody, and the jedi were protectors - as Obi wan says in episode 4. But you also see a glimpse of an empire coming. That was why I liked it - maybe jar jar should have had a smaller role, but to all those who hate him - he is probably going to die on screen, or something terrible is goint to happen to him - so look forward to that.
And what is this - let's compare Tolkien with George Lucas' writing? Before you start comparing then think of this - yes - Tolkien did write an epic, which is one of the best pieces of literary fiction, but it is not the best book ever. That's the same as saying Homers' Odyssey is the best story ever (Homers' works were the first literature produced - don't know if The Odyssey was the first or the Illiad).
Tolkien wrote a very good story, but it has been improved upon later on by people such as Robert Jordan, Tad Williams and David Eddings. George Lucas most definitely read Tolkien and has taken som elements from that and from Dune and written one of the first movies not having anything to do with the planet Earth. The imagination and the way he has since visualized this storyline is fantastic and episode 2 looks like it will be great fun.
The only reason Lord of the rings will be any good is because it is being made by someone like Peter Jackson. Imagine Joel Schumacher making it or Peter Hyams - would they have the same vision - I think not, have you seen the animated films - were they fantastic? I think not. So it is not because Tolkiens work is literary genius it will become (hopefully) a great book - but because Peter Jackson knows what he thinks is good about the book and has changed it, so it will fit the big screen.
And as for which trailer is the best? Spirit - the one on the shrek dvd :-). No seriously - I am looking forward to these movies and will attend the world premiere of both, and both trailers gave me goosebumps. So just release more of the same :-).
:-) A Star wars fan, A LOTR fan and a Matrix fan (they actually exist :-)) -
did you see the same trailer i did? because the dialogue and acting in the peice of doodoo i saw was not tollerable... looks like we are in for another poopyfest from the lucasman.
-
Respect to Episode 4-6. Episode 1-3 is big time joke. Why does no one in Hollywood respect movies. Sequel over sequel with everthing that earns money! Star Wars is definitly DEAD! Things have changed! A new age has begun...
It's time for THE LORD OF THE RINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
This trailer did it for me. I'm there the 17th of may. I've got to agree with the poster that said that this feels more like a real movie. It does. I remember the trailers for TPM. I thought they kicked ass, but i didn't blow me away. I also had no idea what the hell that movie was about or could be about. This one instantly gave the the goosebumps. I love the theme of forbidden love (finally a plot?). Anaking gets all darkside on that Tusken Raider. I can not wait!
-
Oh, another thing. If you can't find the trailer on Morpheus or KazaA yet. Just Download Quicktime 5.02 PRO of, of it. Install it. Head over to Quicktime.com and save that high-res trailer. Costs? ZERO dollars!
-
"Hey man, have you seen the new Star Wars Episode 2 trailer it looks great. The movie is going to rock." the man said to me as I pulled out a shotgun and blew his head off. Argggg, why the hell does everyone think that the new SW movie is going to rock,I mean cmon look at the last one, what a disappointment. Sure it was visually stunning but the story itself left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Seriously if have your hearts set on this next SW movie satisfying your every need than buddie, your life must be pretty empty!
-
First of all, I think I am in the minority of people that don't think Episode 1 was bad or disappointing at all. The thing about that movie is it is supposed to be childish, and just an overall opening. I think this will come into focus more once the next two are released, but until then, we are watching things so out of context. It is like watching Back to the Future part 2 without having ever seen 1 first.
Secondly, in the above article the guy stated that he's almost 30 and star wars has been with him for 26 years? Wasn't SW released March 24, 1977...which if we do the math has been 24 years. Just an observation, but I had to point it out -
FUCKING MACE WINDU!!! Take a good long look frame-by-frame of the head... notice those little protrusions all around it? Looks suspiciously like a FUCKING TUSKIN RAIDER, DOESN'T IT!!! Ray Charles could've seen that! Do you read anything about this shit?! I've just gotta wonder because it seems you should before you go posting your little theories here. Everyone (except for you evidently) already KNOWS it's a Tusken Raider! GODDAMMIT your kind irritates me!
-
LOTR or AOTC it makes no difference WE end up winning! Some great geek entertainment is on the horizon. As far as Anakin and Padme's relationship on screen they look awkward and stilted as any new relationship does when it first begins. It looks fine. And Christopher Lee is the SHIT he'll be awesome in LOTR and AOTC!!!!!
-
Ugh...That dialogue and delivery is pretty bad - I don't care what excuse anyone comes up with. The 'they're diplomats' excuse is pathetic; actually, it looks like a really bad school play. Having said that, the last 3rd of the trailer is brilliant! The duel of the fates really gets the blood pumping. In a way, watching this trailer is just like watching the phantom menace. Most of it is poor, but theres a brilliant bit at the end which almost makes you forget what came before. Overall, I got my hopes up after the very first 'breathing' teaser, but everything has gone swiftly downhill from there. Shame......
-
The trailer looks good. Guess what? So did the trailers for TPM. If Lucas has taught me anything it's not to judge a movie by its trailer. Remember, Jarjar is still in these films. Lucas' asinine sense of humor is also probably there, annoying as ever. I'll go to see this movie, because even if it sucks, it'll still be better than most films just because it's Star Wars. I'm just sick of expecting perfect 10s from Lucas (as he has delivered in the past) only to get movies that rate a 6/10 like TPM did. I'll wait until I see it to pass judgement, but I'm not getting excited. TPM robbed me of the "goose pimple" effect of any of Lucas' future work. It kills me to see such phenomenal material treated so badly, and I will not be suckered into that again.
-
To all the non-believers out there Mace gets it in the neck!
Have you ever seen Samuel L Jackson's head? It's kinda lumpy! Yeah that's right.
The strange head thing could also be attributed to a dummy of Jackson being coaxed towards Anakin so he can hack it off, without CGI interfering with the realism
Respect! -
..Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.
-
If you think this movie is going to suck, fine! What do you want? All your whining won't change anything! If it does suck, then it sucks. Don't watch it. We already know you think it sucks. Enough people have said that! Go ahead say it, EPISODE II SUCKS!
I don't care, I'm still going to see it. I wasted my fucking time and money seeing that piece of monkey shit "Congo" on the first day, and I don't regret it!
I like that other guys attitude. "We all win." -
http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=2535
Aint it Scary ? -
Big difference to me. The Han and Liea themem shows up at the end of the asteriod chase in Empire. It's also called the Love Theme. No gripe just giving you the heads up. That trailor would have been better if they used the Love Theme. I liked it though. Yeah there were wooden lines. Star Wars is filled with wooden lines. Some actors can deliver them, like Ford and Ewen, and most can't. What do you want? All in all, it's shaping up to be good, but some people can't deal with the fact that TPM showed this series was made by a mere mortal and isn't as Godly as you all originally believed... hell, even I believed.
Zubalove out. -
What the fuck are you people seeing? Sorry, but AOTC looks even LAMER than TPM to me.
Mediocre acting, laughingly bad dialogue and a flying Boba Fett do not a movie make, kiddies.
Where's this new "dark" (hee hee!) angle? I guess "Anny's" (I would've preferred 'anus')scene where Lucas told him to wrinkle his face, pout his lips and say "I'm going to be the greatest Jedi ever" is supposed to scare me, but it most certainly did not.
I know some people find it hard to be objective about SW, ST, LOTR etc. because they love it so damn much and they WANT it to be good. It's nice to have desires, but that isn't enough to convince any objective person.
This movie will make a ton of money and all the sheep will flock to their 4th, 5th and 6th screenings after only one week, but I will see this movie exactly one time (same amount I saw TPM, by the way) and, unless I'm wrong, won't need to ever see this forgettable dreck again.
I think SW is over, folks. You're looking at The Search for Spock in SW here......
-
I just read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone very recently. Damn, it was refreshing to read a book and then only have to wait three weeks for the movie to come out. :-)
-
First of all, I would like to say that it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to believe that this film will be visually magnificent when it comes out. I mean, look at the majority of the Star Wars Movies. Visually dull? Since when? Drama? Different. Visuals are easy, drama is difficult. I will wait before commenting on the drama until I have seen it and just then I will say. I can say that the trailers hints at a more atmospheric approach to the filmmaking. That will probably be easy to work out. Making the romance workable will be more difficult but I think they will manage something. I'd like those who are going to make a snap judgment on the quality of the romance elements to take a break and just see the movie when it comes out. Don't get yourself so primed for a masterpiece that you forget that Lucas's skills in the areas of directing actors and writing dialogue were never too good. Just look for the adventure parts of it to be of high quality, and let the rest be a pleasant surprise.
-
Yeah that was funny :)
-
Why? Because if the screen isn't large enough, you aren't going to catch Christensen's facial expressions, and those will be important to judging his performance as Anakin. Also, think context. What is he thinking in these shots? Whatever you do, try and see this in the theatres because I don't think that having this on a fraction of the screen allows the trailer enough breathing room in terms of detail. Think of how all the Han and Leia stuff would look if it were about the size of what we saw.
-
First Christopher Lee and Temiura Madsen as the villains as opposed to a mute and an old man off camera all the time. Big improvement in likability. 2 You had a purposely unlikable Ben and then you had Liam Neeson who came off stiff and annoying as well. Now we have Sam Jackson Ben (with character development...he and Portman were the best actors in the last anyway) and Hayden that all reports say is switched on. Throw in Portman and you have the best aspects of the last built on with great stuff in this one and no little Jakey to screw it up! Now we just gotta hope for as little Jar Jar as possible...
-
Anyone have a link with some pics from this thing?
-
Due to a disagreement with 20th Cetury Fox, Loews Cineplex theatres (at least in the NY area) are refusing to run the new trailer in front of "Harry Potter." The 45-second teaser has been removed from "Monsters Inc." as well.
-
This actually raised the hairs on the back of my neck when I realized how much Christopher Lee Looked like Vader. [/p] Shame the LOTR couldn't do the same for me. Mind you I'll still check it out because I loved the book but I get the nagging feeling that I'd enjou AOTC that much more... Yeah I know using the "rising hackles test is a bit silly but it works for me :) Trollers be damned, don't like it, then don't see it..simple
-
Just a thought. I believe that the purpose of introducing Anakin's blue sabre is, amongst other things, to tie it back to the sabre that Obi gave Luke. If that is true, then the blue sabre Anakin wields in the trailer can't be Obi Wan's because Obi's sabre and Luke's sabre look entirely different Again, just my two cents. I think Anakin will go through the rite of creating his own sabre to become a full fledged Jedi in this movie.
-
First time I watched it, I wasn't so sure, but every time I watch it, it gets better. Goosebumps, baby. Does anyone know if they are going to be actually using the Duel of the Fates in the movie? Is it just temporary in the trailer? I think it works for the trailer, but I was hoping for some new Williams coolness.
-
Okay, so I added a bit to the dialogue, but I can't believe Lucas put such a cliched howler of a line in his script. Maybe I'm blind, but this trailer looks bad to me. It looks hollow and lifeless, like a multi milliion dollar high-school play. And every time Hayden opens his mouth I get a shades of Jake Llyod shiver down my spine. Maybe that was intentional. Maybe Hayden's such a brilliant actor he was able to perfectly recapture Jake's wooden performance from Ep. 1. Of course, everyone looks and sounds bad in this, and considering the actors we know Ewan MacGregor and Natalie Portman to be, I chalk it up to George Mucas's phlegmatic direction. In case you're wondering I was the hugest Lucas fan until the atrocity known as The Phantom Menace unspooled onto my retinas. And AOTC looks liike the same shit all over again.
-
I was wondering why I'm so fascinated with this trailer and I found out why. This doesn't at all look like a little kiddie movie the way TPM was. Don't get me wrong I'm no TPM hater but damn this looks way darker and more intense and there are little to no echo's of "kiddieness"
-
Kick-ass special effects, Christopher Lee with a lightsaber and the Darth suit and obvious proof Lucas is continuing to fuck over his actors by playing cut and paste with their faces. The acting in this trailer isn't as obviously bad as Ep. 1, but Hayden seems to be phoning it in from here. Does it bug anyone else Lucas doesn't realize he undermines his own film by undermining his actor's performances?
-
We all know the potential for darkness in the story of Star Wars,I just hope that AOTC gets dark somewhere along the line.If there's one thing I can't stand in a movie it's goodie goodie cheesiness, e.g. American Pie 1 & 2 (very funny films, but cut out the 'you're my buddy' shit and 'i'm in love' bollocks).I hope Lucas doesn't try to express the evil side to this story in the closing five mins of Episode 3. It's ok George, don't worry about targetting the 6 year old kids.We 20-somethings will buy ALL the merchandise - just make it good...
-
While the acting in none of his earlier movies would win Tony awards, the performances in American Grafitti, THX and Star Wars had an unforced, natural quality that went down easy. You believed the actors were their characters. But the Phantom Lucas seemed to have lost it. I think it's that bluescreen school of filmmaking that is the root cause of this (and I have some experience with it). When an actor isn't being given concise direction on the tone and reality of a scene by the director (which George isn't known for) it's up to the actor to fill in the blanks on the spot. When you're in a real place with a real set and real actors it's easy to buy into the reality of the moment and summon a performance quickly. But when you're floating in a sea of blue nothingness it's a lot harder. Extensive rehearsal, like in the theater, is required to make a scene play right. From what I know, Lucas does no rehearsal, and barely guides his actors at all, which leads to that oddly disembodied feel you get in a lot of scenes in TPM. Sadly, AOTC doesn't look any better. People say you can't judge a trailer for its acting, but isn't a trailer supposed to be the highlights of a movie. If these are the best scenes they have to offer we're in for some dreary and insipid drama.
-
Once again Lucass proves Star Warts is for little tykes.. Adults can't take this crap serious enough to pay $10 bucks to see it, or do they? Yep, they do.. I seem to have forgetten that in America people love to play money to see crap. If only R2-D2 would fall in love with Chewbacca and we got some interspecies robot love going on, then maybe, perhaps would it be worth the ticket price, and only then, well, also, if Lando Calrisian and Han Skywalker put Boba Hut on a Fett back to the planet Anakin and they all watched Friends while Bato Juttinkle made insterstellar popcorn in the microwave that Padme and Loogie won on the fifth dimension TV show "Hooking for Hookies" starring YODA! of all people, YODA is a game show host in part III.. Damn, this gets better each year.. We can all thank LooKass and his giant EWOK costume and maybe, just maybe, we can all get Tweeslak costumes for our kids this halloween based on all the new cantina freaks??!! Yo! Bring on a real mans movie, like LORD OF THE RINGS.. Peter "Tubby Bitch" Jackson kicks all your mofo's asses! ROCK.. Frodo Owns Joo!!!... BTW: Anakie and the Queen chick ruin the story with all their lovie/dovie crapols, love interests and kids ruin movies... The reason NO ESCAPSE with Ray Liotta was so good? No Love Interest, No kids.. Pure adrenalin..... or was it? perhaps it was all a C3PoFu2 dream?
-

Cheers mate
We got that the first time! -
Any blue saber you see Anakin using is HIS, the same Obi Wan will give to Luke, not Obi Wan's saber.
-
When Lucas passes away, I bet it's in his will that he HAS to be buried in his full body Ewok costume.
-
"Annie...what's with your eyes? They have no pupils! And what's with the red dress and the little dog, and will you please stop singing that stupid "Tomorrow" song?"
heh. Couldn't resist.
As for the trailer...Harry was always right...Ain't It Cool?
Out. -
Has anyone got this mirrored yet, I can't get QT5 to work on my PC in work and I'm not gonna be home for ages??
Any help would be much appreciated! -
Sorry, I guess scrolling back through my browser sent that message again.

My sweet fucking god, this is a movie trailer for the ages, best
by jspot
I got chills watching this smiling and shouting Fucking A to an empty house! Im in love with the trailer, poster, banner, everything give me some toys Lucas, damn yoooooooooooou. Best trailer ever combines every aspect of a decent fucking movie, fuck LOTR, this is the real thing.
-
Yea, that guy whose head Ani is taking off in the end is a Tusken Raider, NOT Mace Windu. I don't know why, but he's fighting them.....I think something happens to his mom (we don't see her in the trailer, and nothing else would make him that mad methinks), but what could Tusken Raiders do to her? Would they kill her? Why?
-Fett -
**SPOILERS** Ani kills a tusken raider family because he believes that they are the ones which killed his mother. This is the first part of his downfall to the darkside. **SPOILERS END. P.S. Trailer kicks arse and Hayden Christenson is gorgeous. And people stop slating LOTR, its going to be the best film of this year. And once we get over how good that is, then we get to see this. What A Life!
-
The romantic/epic music used in the new "Forbidden Love" trailer is called "Princess Leia's Theme" from the Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. It is NOT Han and Leia's "theme" from The Empire Strikes Back. Check your facts, Harry.
-
i liked this one, the others did dick for me, the acting still looks wooden though..
-
I'm sorry, but these films look like enhanced Muppet movies with lots of 3D Studio Max, Maya and Soft Image applied quite liberally. If the story is good, the film will rock, if not, it's another freaking Muppet Movie in which Annie kills Tusken Muppet Raiders.. And I agree, Lord of the Rings looks awesome.. I can say that because I've read the books and know the basic story behind it.
-
Everybody needs to take a chill pill. I love Star Wars. But everybody seems to be extreme on both ends. Either IT ROCKS or ITs Gonnu SUCK.
Have to wait till it hits the theatres.
I'll see it because its SW of course. Like some people have already pointed out. A Trailer really has no bearing on the whole movie. I dig the atmosophere and look to the new film. I'm somewhat worried about the dialogue, but we have to see it all to really make any credible aguments.
Everyone wants these new films to basically be a rehash of the last trilogy - GET OVER iT - This is not the ORIGINAL TRILOGY. -
I haven't read through the TB, mostly because I want to postpone my depression. Gaining more detail on the plot and look of the film have been reasons for encouragement.
__________________________________I can understand some of the criticism on acting, but my initial hope is beyond what my seem a syrupy love story will be mere static to the presence of Ewan Mac Gregor and Samuel L. "It's the lightsaber that says bad motherf***er on it." Jackson. Odds are they'll lift my hopes even further, given that their glorfied support roles were not given much to do (save off Darth Maul at the end of TPM). People make far too much of trailers. Talkbackers on AICN prove no exception. -
Jesus H Christ!! Some of you are like a flock of pissy sheep. Bleating and moaning like there's no tomorrow. I agree with TheEnigma, those of you crying about the acting, just piss off and go see "A Midsummer Nights Dream" or some other boring mind fucking play. As for Sugar-ray2, of course NP's acting is wooden, she's a fucking QUEEN!! Have you heard our British queen??? More wooden than any fucking actor could ever be!!! You dicks!! The characters are wooden, therefore the acting has to be wooden! The trailer kicked my ass, kicked everyones arse. Jesus, its got JANGO FETT for fucks sake!! COME ON PEOPLE, get it will you, just GET IT!!!
-
Think about it, after the Phantom Menace trailor, you all were saying the exact same thing, how much that movie was going to be the best thing ever, then TPM came out in theatres, and everyone had to eat crow because as good as the first Star Wars was, that is how bad TPM was. And now, it is all happening again, "this movie is gonna rock!" "this is gonna be the best thing ever!" "LOTR is gonna suck compared to this!" everyone is falling for the exact same trick that George pulled on you two years ago, what are you guys going to do once AOTC comes out and blows just as hard as TPM?
-
http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=3216 *** Lest history repeat itself... that said, I'm looking forward to AOTC, and enjoyed TPM quite a bit. This trailer is certainly impressive and, comparing it the Ep.I trailers on my DVD, all these II teasers so far seem to be much better constructed--not just jumbled images for Wow-factor's sake alone (okay, maybe "breathing" was, but teaser's the word, no?). Not that I wasn't going WOW with everyone else three years ago. Hopefully the movie'll show the same level of improvement over the last movie as the campaign materials have recently--but that's George's department, not the marketing department's, um, department. Looking forward to finding out!
-
Harry, you got their ages wrong. In Phantom Menace, Anakin is 10 and Padme is 14. Attack of the Clones takes place 10 years later, so that would make Anakin 20 and Amidala 24.
-
Hi my sitution for these things sucks. I cant play the large version on the computer and I cant seem to download the med-res from the site, anyone got a link to the med-res version that is posted somewhere??
By the way. I saw this trailer at about midnight last night in the theater. My jaw dropped. I knew that no one could bash the movie after this. I was wrong.
So here is my question. If you hate the movies now. Why dont you just leave? Im very pleased that I like the new ones. And Ill live my life loving all six. Its great. If you feel cheated. That sucks for you. I really am sorry. Glad it didnt happen to me. Now go find something else.
Out. -
Wtchclt, yo rock. Thanks for the link man. Take that apple.
-
Many of you don't remember horribly written scenes from the original trilogy. Empire stooge,"She'll die before she tells you anything", Darth Vader, "Leave that to me". Huh? Excuse me, BAD, BAD WRITING THERE. So, why should these movies be any different. They are the visions, for the most part, of a singularly bad writer. Any of you morons out there should try to create one fifth of what George Lucas created in TPM and see what you get. This is not fine literature here folks. It's freakin' Star Wars. Y'know, spaceships and laser guns? All that fun shit we enjoyed when we weren't quite so jaded by the misery of adult life. Appreciate it for what it is. A pile of really cool shit.
-
You complete fuckheads who are ragging on this know exactly fuck all about film. I bet you're the ones who are going to be sitting in that biggest fucking celebration of nerdism LOTR with you're fucking book open noting down what lines they left out and then come back to your sad fucking empty life and write about it on here to people who give a shit less. To all those who say the acting's shite. Take a long hard fucking look at that first trilogy you hold dear.
Fuck off to Harry "It's for bloody nine year olds" Potter, sod off to LOTR, the pretty impressive looking movie that unfortunately no matter how hard it tries will never be cool.
You complete wankers have no idea what you want from a movie. Ask any of these shitheads and they'd probably say they wanted "some blood in there, make it harder" you don't fucking get it and you never will.
And I reckon you're all pissed off about NP lines because women don't talk to you.
This looks like a fucking good one, I'll be there. You idiots will be too. -
*Sniff*

I'm sure there's varying opinions on what a REAL man's movie is, but mine most certainly doesn't include anything revolving around (let's count 'em, shall we?) wizards, trolls, goblins, elves, fairys, and hobbits. For fuck sake man, throw in a unicorn, now we're talking TESTOSTERONE! If you really DO want to see a REAL man's movie, go check out HEIST or wait for ALI. Now if you'll excuse me, I must go laugh profusely at Hate-Speech, Prince of Sorrow...

That WAS NOT Han & Leia's Theme playing during Anakin and Padme's scenes. It was Leia's Theme from the ANH soundtrack. 1977, boys. The trailers for Episode 2 are better than most full-length bullshit they try to push on you that they consider "movies". http://lordmall.8k.com

I have only seen the breathing trailer , and from now on i want more , i will go to my theater monday to see the full trailer attached to harry potter .Well it seems like star wars fans will have what they wanted so badly for so long a star wars a la empire strike back powerful . the money shot comes in when anikin is riding the speeder bike on tantooine all pissed off with the 2 sunsets behind him. ooh thing of phatness... trailer available on Kazaa in 640 res.
PS-as much as i want to see this movie i still think George Lucas is a jerk. He shouldn't direct, first of all, he's obsessed with marketing tie-ins(example...no Indiana Jones dvds...no classic StarWars dvds...who really gives a flying shintza about American Graffitti)and he lets his staff humor him! "Ok George" "Thats great George!" "geez George that was an ingenius line George" ....I really think AOTC will kick mad ass and EP3 will probably be the best of all 6, but IF he started to get alzheimers or something and really screwed up the storyline somewhere, I dont think anyone on his production team has the balls to tell him!sorry Lucas, your a jerkface, but i cant wait for ep2! -
"Someday I'm going to be the most Powerful Jedi Ever!"
"It's all ObiWan's fault, he's holding me back!"
Everything in the trailer is SO OBVIOUS. It sounds like the simplest version of the Anakin character arc imaginable. I thought George is supposed to be a visionary, how come this stuff sounds like a high school play production of Episode 2?
I'm hoping to god it's good, but clearly THE GOLDEN AGE IS OVER.
-
Look people, the trailer WAS all in all incredible, it gave me great hope for the movie, and much to my suprise actually made me feel the tension, fear, and foreboding that Lucas conveys so tangibly here. I at first thought Hayden's acting was a little lacking too, but think about it; his lines are delivered carelessly, almost apathetically. His voice is wistful and cynical at several points, and he tends to hunch over a little in a somewhat suspicious way, especially when he's wearing his cloak. Christenson does, in general, whether by method or no, give the audience a sense of inner turmoil, of a young man who is slowly, despite the enormous efforts of all the amazing individuals around him, becoming rotten at the core, a slave to his own personal character flaws. We see several instances of the classically deadly hubris. "Forbidden Love" has truly inspired my hope that Ep. II will be valuable not only as a Star Wars movie, but as an individual cinematic accomplishment along the lines of Empire.

What the fuck do you expect Anakin to say? What deep psychological shit did you think would pour out of him? Some of you people expect too fucking much. I suggest you go back to watching the fucking Matrix and smell Keanu Reeves' ass next time you see him in the mall buying the newest in Chess King clothing. If it's not one fucking thing it's another. MOST OF YOU ARE JADED! Admit it! You're so used to seeing bullshit that you wouldn't be able to differentiate between bad and good. I hope Episode 2 bitch slaps all who doubt into a frenzy of Hasbro toy buying buttfucks. Have a nice day. =) http://lordmall.8k.com

I ask for one thing out of a movie: that it be good. For some reason most of the movies released these days can't accomplish that one thing, don't ask me why. This trailer looks ok, the last third or so of it being the highlight, the first two thirds being just there. I wasn't affected by anything until the end. It's make or break time for Lucas come May. Then again, it's going to make a bunch of money anyways.
-
No one ever said they didn't 'get' what SW was about, as some of you keep droning on and on about till start foaming at the mouth and fall over backwards. The problem here is that too many of the fans are trying to make something more meaningful out of this poptart breakfast than really exists. I have no problem sitting in a movie theatre for 2+ hours being entertained by fairly mindless fun, but let's admit that's what we're getting please?
Shit, I don't go to fucking Burger King and expect them to roll out the haute cuisine, ya know?
But even admitting it's just eye candy shouldn't preclude anyone from criticizing this trailer/movie/series. Sorry, it's taken a drastic downhill turn in my opinion. And for those of you saying "Oy! He's just jaded cvause he can no longer think like a li'l child anymore!" Um, wouldn't that mean that I'd hate the first series if I watched it again? That argument's tired, folks. Truth be known, we're looking at another mega-millionaire trying to reestablish his legacy and line his pocket book with tired material. Just because it's associated with something I once enjoyed shouldn't mean that it's now above criticism.
Oh yeah, and Mercier: shut up you wanker! Lash that freakin' whip again and I'll wrap it around your goddamn liver. -

Obviously we won't be going to see this movie for the acting
by memyself
-
As devil's advocate (or the devil himself) I must ask the following: You stated "You're so used to seeing bullshit that you wouldn't be able to differentiate between bad and good." Could it instead be that we're actually so sick and tired of bullshit that we can smell it a mile away? Just a question
-
That's not Han&Liea's love theme from ESB over the trailer. It's Liea's own theme from ANH(a less used and better theme IMHO) and if you have the SWSE soundtracks then you should know that.
-J -
Again, I think some people are so used to smelling Hollywood manufactured bullshit that if an honest-to-God GOOD movie was actually waved in front them that their nasal passages would have so much stench in them from all the crap that they wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Can you sense that Episode 2 is going to totally suck? Have the trailers so far led you to believe that this movie will be a dud? If that's the case then I feel sorry for you because you've been lobotomized by Hollywood and turned into a conditioned hampster who scurries to the latest Reese Witherspoon or John Travolta flick, but doubts Star Wars. Reset your brainwaves, folks. For a moment remove the memory of planes crashing, people dying, cities collapsing, Anthrax, the bills, the kids, the $2,000 a week drug habit, the job, the muffler on your fucked up Volvo- forget all that and watch the trailers as if you haven't been conditioned into a 100% complete asshole for the past few decades. Maybe then you'll be able to appreciate what may be in store for us come May 2002. http://lordmall.8k.com

by hawq
Episodes 4 & 5 had a certain magic that even poor acting (Mark Hamill anyone???) couldn't diminish. Maybe Episode 2 can recapture some of that magic. At least they're all adults now, so hopefully no more stupid fart jokes or INCREDIBLY bad two-headed pod race announcer (By far the WORST part of any SW movie). Think of the cool shit that could be shown if they make this a hard PG-13, with Anakin turning to the dark side and slaughtering everyone who pisses him off! Not to mention exploiting Padme's hot young body. I'm looking forward to the actors' portrayals of Obi Wan and Dooku, but everyone else could use a few more acting lessons. Oh well, it's just Star Wars, not like it's Lord of the Rings. Talk about a damn fine collection of actors! Not that I don't want to see Star Wars. I look forward to all upcoming kick-ass movies, such as SW Ep2&3, all 3 LotR, King Conan, Matrix 2&3, Any well made Harry Potter, and any cool ORIGINAL movies they can throw at us. But still, we all know Lord of the Rings will be the best movies ever. Everything about the entire production is just too damn perfect. God has blessed us first with Tolkien, and now Peter Jackson. I don't know why I'm typing this, nobody reads this far down into the Talkback.

That kid must be the most annoying "actor" I ever have seen. Haven't seen more wooden "acting" in my entire life. The visuals was NOT up to the original triology. In some scenes the look was just BORING. I saw nothing in this trailer that lived up to original triology, the pacing was off, in plain english this trailer sucked!

Nor could you see though the masks of the aliens through the eye lenses (check out the cantina scene in SW where that little mouse like creature pours a drink into its chin). How bout the bad dubbing between Vader an Tarkin (where Vader Waves his hand for no apparent reason). Maybe looking into the faceplate of R2 and seeing KB's reflection, or seeing DP face though is Vader mask (during the DS battle). Just playing devils advocate but also disproving such a silly statement. And mind you I love the OT dearly, only a could watch it a zillion times, pick it apart and still love it

"Ani? My goodness, you've grown!" "So have you. More beautiful, I mean." WTF? Oooh, maybe he'll take her to the prom. Bleah. This trailer didn't even look remotely interesting to me 'til the "I will be the most powerful Jedi" part. Then it started looking like a Star Wars movie and not Sweet Valley High. Bah humbug.

... a bunch of 16-year-old professional drama critics who know all about acting and can tell how bad a film is by a two-minute trailer. A reminder: just how great were Keanu's line readings in your beloved Matrix? Oooh, silence, I thought so.

Ok, people, it looks like we've got the real deal here. Wait a tic...I could swear I've said that somewhere before...OH YEAH, it was about 3 years ago when the first trailers for The Phantom Menace premiered. The coolness of a trailer is not necessarily indicative of the coolness of a movie. The TPM trailers were significantly cooler than the finished product. I'm as passionate a Star Wars fan as anyone, but I'm not getting any more excited about AOTC than I've already been simply because the new trailers kick ass. What we all need to remember, and I've said it for the past 3 years, is that Lucas isn't making 3 stand alone films here. He's making a new TRILOGY to accompany his first trilogy. While it would be nice to have 3 strong, stand alone films, it's probably going to be best to hold off on judging Lucas and his work until he's finished.
Incidentally, why is it that all these LOTR fanboys keep shoving LOTR under the noses of Star Wars fanboys? We all know that LOTR is a trilogy and nobody has any trouble remembering that. It seems to slip LOTR fans' minds that Lucas is doing the same thing, albeit not all at once. So while FOTR may (probably will) be a better film than TPM, it's apples and oranges, folks. Let's wait until 2005, after all the films have been made and shown, to make any comparisons. Maybe then the whole Star Wars/Lord Of The Rings debate can be settled once and for all...Brado's out. -
To the Episode I haters....I am gonna break this gently to you, the ONLY people who were dissapointed in the Episode I were the fricken Sci-Fi-Star Wars Fanatics...The damn thing made 450 million in the field and then made a shitload of money on the DVD. APpparently eveyone else enjoyed the crap out of it. Why? Because they don't sit and read the internet everyday and get there hopes up or dashed by every report! They let LUCAS tell the story instead of telling LUCAS what the story should be! Fanatics have a tendency to overthink everything! You want to know what a definition of bomb is...of what a failure could be considered...try A.I! All the marketing in the world didn't save the damned movie. Christ almight They read the novels, comicbook and so on till they build up more "story" than what the other films were about. My Message to HARRY KNOWLES: Star Wars is the first space EPIC movie series...Lucas is achieving a level of storytelling that hasn't been attempted before in films. The main diffrence between the LORD OF THE RINGS and STAR WARS...we really don't know what is going to happen next. Lord of the rings has already been mapped out-we just want to see it.

Exactly, the matrix is one of the most over-rated pieces of crap in living memory, with hideous dialogue and awful acting, but then everyone walked around in trenchcoats didn't they? so it must be cool then...
The fact is, it seems a lot of assholes who like to pore over every line and every frame here are sci-fi/fantasy fans first and film fans second. That means you will always go over the small details and miss the big picture.
I would actually dearly love to see Star Wars utterly rejected by sci-fi nerds now, it would be the best thing for it. You fucks turned Star Wars from a fun popular movie into something on a par with Star Trek.
I do not give a toss about the Falcon's hyperdrive, how a lightsaber works, what every alien in every fucking frame is called and I own no memorabilia either.
I just love those movies. The sooner you all realise that Star Wars is a rough diamond from start to finish, and you have to take the rough with the smooth you will never learn. Sadly you are just sniping little shits. -
Anyone, Anyone. Got the link to the medium resolution version of this awesome trailer???
The computer Im on wont allow me to go into the temp files to save it.
Thanks

Why is everyone here saying that Natalie Portman did a bad acting job? Natalie Portman is a wonderful and talented actress and has done some very good movies. As for the trailers, I must say they looked better than any of the trailers for the Phantom Menance. I think what all of you have to remember is that in a trailer, the dialogue is frequently taken out of CONTEXT in order to provide information about the plot. I mean, did Keanu Reeves lines in the Matrix trailers sound any more different than Hayden's. And did the Matrix still turn out to be a sweet movie? And those of you who are only bagging E2 because of LOTR really need to relax. Insulting one movie only because you like another isn't good. So, to conclude, keep your hopes up and don't judge E2 fully until you see the entire movie. And give Natalie a chance, for I'll think she'll do well in the movie.

Read his post above and all you complainers will know what has become of your pathetic existences. By the time the DVD is out, Lucas will have made megabucks, wait, gigabucks, and you will be here complaining about Episode III.

F#cking amazing... I really did just drop my jaw when watching this thing... and the second time, too.
To anyone who can find fault in this thing, you are exactly the jackasses who Jay & Silent Bob kicked ass on at the end of their movie. It's you. Deal with it. -
Can anyone here honestly tell me that the dialogue in the LOTR trailers was better than the dialogue in the Ep2 trailers? I'm waiting.

...is pathetic. My God. You all are obviously INTERESTED in another Star Wars movie, but you're SO AFRAID of hoping that it will be good. How much do you wanna bet that the same people that are condeming the very shrewd new "Clones" trailer are the same runts who are "totally sure" that that last plane crash was "totally" caused by terrorists but the "government will never tell us the truth." Cynicism, you worthless asexual trolls, will never get you laid. If you never have hope or enthusiasm, you never get anywhere. At least Harry likes movies.

If so, it's news to me. In a number of the books that describe what happens after "Return of the Jedi," Luke seems to have a pretty decent love life, Leia has three kids for God's sake, and all the young Jedis in training run after each other for Bellyshirted Teen Horniness. Nowhere have I seen celibacy mentioned at all. "Do it, or do it not. There is no try."
-
Well what a trailer, just though id pu my 2 penneth in to this talkback being, has any one noticed draculas cape, look familiar, watch it again fanboys
-
If you take a closer look at the new trailer you will notice that Lucas has ingeniously placed images of Vader in it
First, if you pause the trailer while Hayden is riding the dune speeder against the sunset you will see an outline of Vader against the setting sun.
Second, if you pause the trailer at the very beginning of the shadow of Hayden and Portman on the wall on Tatooine, you will notice that Hayden's shadow looks like the shadow to Vader. (Perhaps that scene follows a tragic event when he returns to Tatooine?)
All in all, it looks like Lucas has done it right again!
-
Watch the spoilers...there are even some in the subject lines here! As far as the trailer's concerned, I thought it was promising even if the acting was poor. It's got to be better than the acting I saw today in Harry Potter and the Students of Jake Lloyd Acting School.
-
Hot damn, what a trailer-now this feels like "Star Wars"!
-
Yeah it looked pretty. But can that Hayden guy really carry the film? Too early to tell. And does anyone else find it weird that Anakin looks 10yrs older yet Ms. Portman looks the same age as in Episode 1? Man that Jango Fett stuff looks awesome - it's the best part of the trailer.
-

From the description that Lucas used to describe Midichlorians, they sound exactly like what we call Mitochondria, which are not carried in blood, but rather in every cell of the body. Qui Gon just used a blood sample to check the level of midochlorians in Anakins cells. As Mitochondria are actually foreign body's with separate, different DNA than their host, they are not likely to be inherrited from genes, but rather from the Mitochondria of the two cells that for the embryo. I think that this means a person could be born from two parents not strong in the force, yet be strong in the force due to the combination of the parents Midichlorians, and a person who is already strong in the force would pass this on to offspring through their Midichlorians, like Anakin did to Luke and Leia. Of course all of this means that I am a HUGE BIG ENORMOUS GEEK!
-
...nobody is saying that Episode 2 is going to be a great movie, we're just saying the trailer rocks, thats all. Of corse we've learned our lesson with Episode 1 but that doesn't automatically mean this movie will be bad. Btw, sure TPM had it's flaws but it also had it's spectacular moments. *clears throat*... Qui-gon and Obi-wan fighting side by side against hundreds of battle droids, The Final Lightsaber duel with Maul, The Pod Race, The Gungan Battle, the planet core chase, QUI-GONN JINN, Amazing special effects including the cgi and once again John (The Master of movie music) Williams. Duel Of The Fates anyone? I have faith in Lucas, after 20 years of not directing anything he's finally getting back into the rythem of it.

by rufus_t_firefly
Yet again, a Star Wars film looks to set the bar for wooden acting. Yikes! At this point, I'm convinced that Lucas could coach a bad performance out of Olivier in his prime. "Clones" looks to be another CGI-laden Nintendo 64 game... with somebody else holding the controller.
-
I think what's nagging people about the acting from Hayden is that it doesn't sound natural. It seemed forced, without authenticity, it's like the words don't belong in his mouth and he's just pushing them out because they're in the script. I don't see how your continuity argument works in this case to defend the delivery of Hayden's lines. When Anakin becomes Vader, yes he loses his joyous emotions but the lines are spoken with authentic ease by James Earl Jones. The way Vader acts seems realistic. If Anakin is supposed to be stoic or unemotional, fine, so be it, but at least make it sound authentic. Let's hope this is better than it seems come May.
-
I think a lot of people expect Ep2 to be the next CITIZEN KANE or they want it to solve the mysteries of life or they want it to cure cancer and jack them off at the same time or they.. oh you get the point. It's a movie, folks, not the meaning of life. You want GREAT acting and whatever other crap you think makes a GREAT movie? Watch foreign cinema and avoid American movies altogether. http://lordmall.8k.com
-
I'm not expecting to go in and see "Citizen Kane" or "My Dinner with Andre." I don't need deep focus shots of Anakin and his favorite rocket sled nor do I want an extended philosophical dialogue between C-3PO and R2-D2 (though that would be a goofy short film). I just want to see a good movie that is entertaining and emotionally satisfying; a movie that doesn't sell itself short to sell video games and fast food meals rather than tell its own compelling story. I just want Episode 2 to be more satisfying than Episode 1, and I hope that isn't a crackhead request.
-
What the Star Wars series needs, and quite badly, is a few shots of Amidala butt naked. We need close up shots of her labia, her nipples, and her being vaginally penetrated by Anakin. They're doing wonderful things with CGI these days....I'm sure they could even give her breasts.
-
I think we're in for a good time, Goodfellow. Sure there'll be videogames, toys, books, T-shirts, etc., but I believe at the core of all that will be an exceptional Star Wars movie, I think perhaps the best one yet. There are certainly enough resources and story to make it the best episode so far. Someone above touched upon this slightly: be careful what you wish for. You want a good movie? Ok, are you PREPARED for a good movie? And as I was discussing earlier, do you even know what good is? Sure you shouldn't have to ask yourself all these questions before you see Episode 2. In our minds it's either going sink or swim. But at least keep an open mind and if you didn't like TPM don't let it taint your enjoyment of Episodes 2 & 3(that's wasn't strictly directed towards you, RG). http://lordmall.8k.com

I'm sick of you fucking people bitchin about "lucas did this" or "Lucas put this in" GUESS WHAT? IT'S HIS FUCKING VISION!!!! Do you fuckheads really think that you know how Star Wars should look more than the creator does? I THINK FUCKIN THINK NOT!! And I really doubt that Lucas is going to look at this talkback and think to himself "GEE, Amazing Larry (not a rip on you Larry, i love your posts but you are the first name tha popped into my head) doesn't like that I put Jar Jar in, i better change it. " Get real you assholes. You want ot solve the problem here's what you do..... don't see it, then he will not "ruin" your visions cause he will not make another one. I hate people that know that they will not like something but go and see it anyway just so they can say. "That's not Star Wars" You people need to realize that you are not the creators of Star Wars and that you have no input on it what-so-ever. Bitch
-
I loved my Pit Bull. Still do, even though I had him put to sleep for biting my little nephew. Point being, just because I love Star Wars does'nt give Lucas the right to put out a shitty 2hr COMMERCIAL (YOU can call it a film if you like) like TPM. You guys hope this will be better than TPM? A piece of shit sitting on a screen for 2hrs. would be better. The inane dialouge has just got me FU*KING MAD!! What happened to Ricard LaGraveneese participating in this? Somebody put a gun to Lucas head RIGHT NOW and demand that he hire a real writer for Part III. Yes, I would not care as much if I did not have the love in my heart, but having that love makes me feel HURT when I see garbage like TPM and these GOD-AWFUL trailers. At least I could ignore the Battlefield Earth's of the world, but I can't ignore this. I wish I could forget Star Wars altogether so as not to feel such PAIN. Now,...where is my Empire Strikes Back laserdisc? :)

May 19, 2001 ---
Today, in a statement broadcast around the world, Dr. Joe StarWarsFan pronounced the death of Star Wars. A portion of his statement follows...
"As we all know, Star Wars had been ailing for a long time, beginning in 1983 with the bewildering inclusion of Ewoks in the original trilogy. Over time it seemed to recover, and even grew in strength, until approximately May 17, 2001, when 'The Phantom Menace' was released. Jar Jar, Jake Lloyd, the overwhelming CGI, coupled with sub-par writing and delivery, sounded what should have been Star Wars' death-knell. Yet somehow, miraculously, the franchise pulled through, though much weaker in spirit and soul. Unfortunately, in its weakened state, it was unable to cope with 'Attack of the Clones', what many people will consider to be the worst of all the Star Wars movies. The acting and writing, which many thought had reached rock-bottom with 'The Phantom Menace' took an even steeper fall with this new release, one from which Star Wars and its legions of fans will never recover. Ever. Star Wars is dead. It's not coming back, nor, God Help Us, will it." -
If a Star Wars "fan" was turned into a raging Lucas hater by TPM or even these glimpses of episode 2, then what the hell were you ever doing being a Star Wars fan? It has ALWAYS been about the level of craft in creating a completely unique and intriguing universe. Honestly, how come the Godfather trilogy isn't raking in billions of dollars when most people here could easily say that the writing, acting, dialogue, etc. etc. are much better than in any of the Star Wars movies? Why am I playing a Star Wars computer game and not one based on Citizen Kane? The UNIVERSE. The creativity, the way you can see a glimpse of one SW character on the screen and know that there could be a completely new and interesting story just about him?
Lucas has created a world that my geek ass can escape into a few hours at a time and I love him for it. Fuck the dialogue. I didn't buy all my Star Wars figures 15 years ago so that I could stage Shakespearean plays with them. The most memorable moments of a New Hope were all thanks to Lucas: the Star Destroyer, The Cantina, the Lightsaber, Darth Vader. THIS IS STAR WARS. I have no problem with the average film buff railing on Star Wars for its inadequacies, but you "fans" should re-evaluate why you would say "Episode 2 will SUCK!!!!" and then still shell out your cash to go see it. You have no idea what Star Wars is about. -
"Can anyone here honestly tell me that the dialogue in the LOTR trailers was better than the dialogue in the Ep2 trailers? I'm waiting." ----- LOL! Is that some sort of joke!?!? If anyone thinks the lines/acting in this EpII trailer even come to close to the depth of feeling shown in the LOTR trailer, then they are obviously just jealous and bitter individuals. Please point out to me what line in this trailer can match the sheer power and talent of McKellans "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!". I'm sorry, but they are at opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of convincing performances. I love Star Wars, but not for it's acting or real emotional drama.
-
....and I'm gonna see it again in about 2 hours when I go to Harry Potter. The trailer was "ok", but....well, when I saw the trailer for TPM I was like "no way! oh my god!!", but when I saw THIS trailer I didn't feel giddy at ALL afterwards. Not that it was a bad trailer. Maybe it's just that TPM had an awesome trailer and I'm not going to let myself fall for it again. Or maybe the trailer just didn't show me anything to make me believe this one is gonna have any more of a plot than TPM. All I know from watching this trailer is: half the movie, there's going to be a romance between Anakin and Amidala, and Obi Wan is somehow going to get in the way and mess it up. And the other half of the movie, Lord Sidius/Palpatine is gonna do a little more scheming....hopefully, Palpatine's scheme in this one won't be so hard to catch! I didn't catch on to the whole "Palpatine IS Sidius and he's staging this whole Trade Federation thing to get himself elected Chancellor" thing till like my third viewing.
-
What planet are you naysayers living on? Have just seen the latest Ep II trailer before Harry Potter, and it is, in a word, stunning. The acting and dialogue ARE top notch (which i admit, for Star Wars is saying something) and anyone nitpicking is quite franky, bonkers. Oh, and yeah, that floppy eared gimp Jar Jar is in the trailer near the beginning.
-
Does anyone know what color Anakin's lightsaber is??? Is the early teasers he is running around with a green lightsaber and Obi-Wan has a blue one... but it also show Anakin with a blue one??? Does he steal Obi-Wans?? Does he make a new one like Luke did in Return of the Jedi??? Does anyone know??
-
I saw the trailer before Harry Potter here in the UK tonight and it was cool to see Star Wars back on the big screen, but the quality of even a good multiplex sucks now compared to DVD and digital downloads. The trailer looks and sounds better on my PC. Harry Potter was entertaining, but didn't look like a 'big' movie, more like the sort of thing the BBC would put out for kids on Sunday afternoon. Even as a kids film it doesn't have much scope.
There was not much reaction to the Star Wars trailer, though I did see it in Portsmouth, not a place exactly full of live wires. There were some drunken loosers hanging around outside afterwards. Hampshire Police should get down to Port Solent and remove this scum from our sight.
Oh well, I have all three trailers, in large format, saved on my PC. That will do for now.

That's just Leia's theme from the first movie. Han and Leia have a romance theme that's slightly different in Empire, but Leia's theme is the one here. It's only important because I would think the romance theme for Leia's parents probably SHOULD anticipate her own motif, just as little Anakin's theme anticipates the Imperial March(though it should be more recognizable). I don't think it's a cheat as we aren't going to hear any of Williams's new music until the soundtrack comes out, you know how Lucas is about that stuff. ****** Okay, now about all these "this sucks" people. Yeah trailers are deceptive, they're DESIGNED to make something look good. But that said, this trailer does the job, hands down. I just disagree with you guys on the dialogue and delivery all stinking. I'm not crazy about it, so maybe the fact that it doesn't blow me or anyone else away is enough to damn the movie in your eyes, but frankly I think SW fans can turn into assholes on a dime these days. Can't there be a medium? It HAS to be perfect or else it's shit? And why are you all so against a romance? All I'm hearing is "that action is great, but the soap opera romance is trash." I'm starting to think you're all in Middle School, too old to enjoy the candycorn fun of Phantom Menace, but too immature to savor the love story. You are the people who would have told Coppola to quite with all the boring father/son/family talk in Godfather and just showed the mob killings and gangster violence. Well this is why the best movie you whiners could ever make is a Dungeons and Dragons POS. You people have no vision(or taste, one could argue, but not me). Sure, Lucas is an effects guy, he's not going to bring out the best in his actors, and I hesitate to call him a genious with a grand unmatched vision, but he's achieved more than anyone on this talkback has thus far. Are you really so insecure that your only release is to call him names and say he's a worthless sack of shit? Keep your opinions, this site is all about bitching and moaning and venting, but why so many? It's not right, and some of you HAVE to know you're overracting! Bad enough your ilk runs Access Hollywood, which did as you guys would have liked and snipped everything prior to the "I will be the greatest Jedi ever" line. What a cheat, so much left out.
-
You might not be far off on that theory about Anakin taking his chain and stuff......from what I can piece together of the plot from trailers, it seems like towards the end Anakin goes to save Obi-Wan from Count Dooku, and after defeating Count Dooku, needlessly kills him in a fit of rage. Then the Emperor gets on him and takes him all the way to the dark side. Wouldn't that be cool?
-Fett -
Sorry for the pretentious pedantics, pedestrians, woo, say that several times fast. I'm tired, it's late, and I'm so upset by all the unpleasant Star Wars grief when such a nice trailers is out. Excitment doesn't have to lead to disappointment come next Memorial Day.
-
...but there's a lot of posts about this. To be perfectly honest, I loved the trailer(s), TPM, all the really cheesy TPM merch, and most of all, I think Jar-Jar's got a mighty fine-lookin' ass. Seriously, though, what it all comes down to is that come next May, 99% of all your asses are GOING to be firmly lodged in a theater seat watching this movie. All you talkbackers who get so ridiculously negative and hypercritical, you make me laugh until I pee my Star Wars Underoos. Lighten up, people! That's what it's all about anyways...

The trailer rocks. All 3 of the trailers rock. And Potter and LOTR can LMB. I had to take my kid sister to see Potter and may I say what a BORING PIECE OF SHIT. I've never bothered to read the books(sticking to Clancy and other things, thank god) but even if I was a major Potter fan before the movie I'd be pissed off now. At least Jurrassic Park, whilst straying from some of the main ideas of the book, was still a well put together and thrilling piece of entertaiment. Potter just keeps dragging, and dragging, and dragging endlessly until it gets to its totally hack-kneed and anti-climactic end. WHAT A WASTE OF...oh I'm sorry, I guess I'm in the wrong talkback. Heh.

Like maybe Harry has this automated talkback generation bot that fills up space with geeky ranting either positive or negative...whichever he wants. That trailer had me laughing and not in a good way. "I'm going to be the most powerful Jedi ever!" has to be one of the worst lines ever conceived in the history of cinema. Lucas has developed this habit of pandering to his audience to make the geeks cream their jeans. "Look, when he says that, it means he's going to become Vader!" (squirt) "Ooh, Vader built C3PO" (squirt) "Ooh, Christopher Lee gets to play a bad guy in a cape named (get this) COUNT Dooku!" (squirt) "Tatooine is the most important and coolest planet in the entire Republic, thank God Lucas keeps taking us back there!" (squirt) "Ooh, before Boba Fett terrorized our heroes in Empire Strikes Back, his father also terrorized Annie in Episode Two and they both wore that 'kewl' armor! (squirt) "Annie had a parent killed in the desert of Tatooine just like Luke did!" (squirt) Man, there were so many cool things that could have happened in this universe for a prequel. How did we end up with a story lacking the maturity to sell a Happy Meal? How could Greedo have shot first? Why have droids taken the place of real enemies to mow down? And after the corpse of a great trilogy has been raped in this way, why do so many of you get so excited about it? Attack of the clones, indeed.

There were about 45 minutes of previews before our showing of Harry Potter tonight, and NONE of them were Episode 2. The only trailer promoting a film that was close to being any good was, of course, "The Majestic." All the others were for dull, flat, run of the mill 'family' flicks, including a new Tim Allen movie, God save us all. But no Ep2 trailer. Thank GOD for this site because I was able to watch the trailer three times before I went to work this morning. It was exciting and moving and made me want to see the next chapter in the Star Wars saga RIGHT NOW. It's a good trailer. Very good.

by ritter
You people are compeletly overreacting to these trailers. The movie hasn't even come out yet and your getting angry at the trailers. My good friends, trailers are constructed so that they can create interest about the movie and give the movie goers about the plot. THEY ARE NOT, AND I REPEAT, ARE NOT MADE TO DETERMINE THE ACTING QUALTIES OF THE STARS! I mean, when has any movie trailer gave the viewer and indication on how the acting in a movie will be? I mean, did you think that the trailer for Forrest Gump gave any indication of the great acting of the film? The trailers aren't there to tell people who is Oscar-worthly material folks.
You people who are bashing this trailer are just bitter SW fans who are upset that Lucas didn't give them what they wanted in EP1 and so they won't give any SW another chance. You try to convince people that what they see in 2min of footage will determine the value of the entire movie. Well, if thats true, then the Final Fantasy movie must have kicked all sorts of ass, because the trailer was very good. Well you know what? IT DIDN'T.
And don't compare Keanu's lines in a MOVIE to Haydens lines in a TRAILER. I'm sure if you had heard Keanu say his lines in the trailer to the Matrix, you wouldn't have felt that he showed all the emotion he did. Trailers are about INFO, not EMOTION. As for LOTR, yes, Ian McKellen was great in the trailer, but did anything inspiring come out of Elijah Wood's mouth? And don't forget, all we heard about in the trailers are the voices of two characters in the story. We still haven't heard from Obi-Wan, Mace, Jango, Dooku or any of the other characters in the movie. So, stop making assumptions, and until the movie comes out in the theaters, don't say that Star Wars is dead. Because if it turns out to be a great movie, your'e going to look like a bunch of idiots. -
Maybe Harry has this talkback rigged, because their sure are alot of people here you think their opinion is the only one that matters. What makes YOU the leading authority on good lines? I hope people like you don't go to see EP2, because I don't want to share the thearte with arrogant people.

... but I think dialog in the trailer matches the style of the dialog in TPM, which is to say, it's trite and amateurish. DeNiro couldn't make a convincing delivery of that "Someday I'm gonna be ..." line. That said, if I see lots of action-packed lightsaber/robot/ray gun/space ship goodness in AOTC, I'll go home a happy man.
-
Well, first off, I had some mixed feelings when I heard that they were releasing 3 teasers for A.O.T.C. in 3 weeks. I mean, there is a problem with too much. By the time it hits March/April, we'll have had no new footage for 6 months, and the only thing to see is 3 short/quick teasers. The other problem is that if you don't like any of the teasers, you'll probably be turned off right away, instead of seeing it in May and be disappointed then. However, this is what I think of this new Star Wars film: I think that, even though they aren't bad or anything, each teaser has gotten a tad worse every time. Remember, I love Star Wars, and I can't wait for Episode II, but we were so pumped to see the brand new footage of Star Wars for the first time in almost 3 years 3 weeks ago, and the new footage kept coming and coming. Even though that sounds like a good thing, I don't want THAT much footage shown right away. I want to create my own ideas on what is happening, rather than know must events right away. However, this new trailer is pretty nice. The love story seems pretty strong, and the effects

A couple of words.... To all the Star Wars bashers out there get out your hankies this movie will rock...Lucas has won today. More positive posts about the trailer then negatvie, just face it it is good...For people that can't tell the difference b/t Jango and Bobba Fett Please get a clue. People that bitch and complain about cheezy dialouge or bad acting ask yourself this question... If my view is so correct than why am I on the outside looking in. If you could do a better job than Lucas, your movies would be getting made, not his..
Natalie Portman... What a major Babe. She is hot! Long live the Jedi and Star Wars Fans...Those who don't like it save your eight measley bucks and leave the fans a good seat. -

I still think it best to keep the level of excitement down ("There won't be a dry seat in the theater" and that kind of stuff). Ep I trailer looked pretty good too. And right up to the moment I walked in the theater I kept telling myself it can't possibly be as bad as the critics said. Oh well. Here's hoping JarJar remains in the corner.

for all the fairweather SW fans who will be flocking back to fandom central if this movie delivers. I've been a fan all my life and remained through the TPM run defending the film and enjoying it for what it was. Unlike for many, TPM enhanced my love of the Star Wars saga and made it possible for me to view the story from so many different angles, while others cast the movie away cursing the film on which it was printed. Now if EP2 comes out and rocks like it very well may all those who have made it their pastime to rip Lucas a new one will come back as if they were there all along supporting and backing their "favorite" film series. You shouldn't love Star Wars on a wait and see basis. If you're a true fan you're a true fan and will stick with it through the good times and the bad. And I'm proud to say I never left.
-
All you ep2 haters out there are saying the same three things over again:
-This trailer with the romantic stuff is shit!
-The acting sucks.
-Remember that the ep1 trailers were cool!
WE GET YOUR FUCKING POINT!
I don't care if Episode II is even worse than Episode I, I'm still going to see it and I'm going to like it that first time no matter what.
Unless Attack of the Clones has gang anal rape scenes and children's throats being slit I am still going to be excited about it because it's STAR WARS. Star Wars has never been about brilliant storylines and incredible acting, Star Wars is about visiting a galaxy far, far away for just over 2 hours.
Get over it. Episode II could be the worst film of the year, but nothing can change the fact that the film was made by the same man who created the greatest scifi trilogy that ever was. If even an atom of that inspiration shines through in Episode II, you can bet I'll enjoy it. -
OK, "Breathing" was nice, but that other one was way too mushy. Still, this looks pretty cool. Unlike some, I can be a Star Wars fan and STILL say to myself "It's just a movie". Will Ep. II prove that Lucas has chosen to "try", when in Ep. I he "tried not", hmmmmmmm?!

Though I thought the first teaser "Breathing" was cool, this one is just outstanding ! The whole trailer seems pitched at an older level, and gives me a glimmer of hope that we may be in for the old Lucas one-two combination. (Sucker them in with one type of film, then deliver a knock out punch of sequelising with something totally different in tone a la "Star Wars" and "Empire".
The f/x still look a little top heavy on the CGI, but the snippets of the performances look really good. What makes the developing relationship all the more tragic is that we know it'll end in betrayal & death. Inserting the Han & Leia theme is a master stroke. Instant association with a relationship in the next generation. (Course it saves a few bucks off the budget too !!)
All in all, plenty to look forward to next year. -

the scene in the trailer where anakin kisses the princess, is it me or does that place look like the lake lookout in the sound of music ?
-
Well, I'm a little sceptic. The trailer itself looks fine and feels good, apart from some acting issues ("Ani, is that you?"). One problem arises: We will never be able to look at Darth Vader as the villain again, but as the only loving Jedi. A note to that other geek a little earlier: It's not hard to recognize different pieces of Star Wars music by hearing, all you have to do is listen to the soundtrack a couple of million times...
-
I saw this trailer before Harry Potter last night (in the U.K). Also saw a Fellowship Of The Ring trailer. I'm just glad they're not out at the same time or I wouldn't know what the hell to go and see first. Well, actually I lie. Star Wars will always come first - that's the effect it has on your life when you first see that Star Destroyer cross the screen as a six year old. To me it is, and always will be, the best.
-
I like it because it's appropriate that this *kid* who is clearly in love with Padme, who is seen to be such a shining hope to the Jedi, such a beacon of decency to the Republic, ends up crashing and burning when his weaknesses are exploited by Palpatine. It may be 'gooey' 'cheesy' 'barf-inducing', whatever you want to call it...but it makes his future seem as tragic as it needs to be. Even more so perhaps. The trailer shows both sides to Anakin, the dating teen who wants to marry a Queen, and the impatient, know-it-all young Jedi who is (let's face it), seen as an enormous dartboard with just a bullseye to aim at by The Dark Side.
The Original Trilogy was the war, the aftermath of Anakin's past, and dealt with bringing the Galaxy back to it's peaceful past...*that's* the exciting bit. This trilogy is the explanation of how it all happened, not the consequences. You can't expect battles all the time this time around, because in a time of peace, there's an awful lot more going on than that. If Lucas were to produce another three films based entirely on warfare, you'd say 'Wait a minute, how did this all happen, how did this all come to be? You can't just have fighting all the time.' Well, fighting is usually the result of a situaion, not the situaion itself.
IT'S GONNA BE MORE SERENE THIS TIME, YOU CAN'T HAVE FIGHTING ALL THE TIME, YOU CAN'T HAVE HUGE BATTLES ALL THE TIME, OTHERWISE EVERYBODY WOULD COMPLAIN AT LUCAS FOR NOT PRODUCING A PROPER STORY ARC OVER THE SIX FILMS AND JUST RELYING ON BIG FIGHTS TO SEE HIM THROUGH. THIS IS *HOW* IT HAPPENED, NOT *WHAT* HAPPENED!
Also, if you'd have seen TPM in 1977 (SFX excused here) you wouldn't have been as excited as you were with ANH, becuase this is why the original trilogy were made first. Lucas didn't know whether he'd ever get the chance to make another three films, so he made the most exciting part. People don't realise that this new trilogy is the less exciting part, and relies somewhat on the viewer realising this, and realising that these films are the same type of corny, action sci-fi adventure that the original trilogy were, just made in a time when the audience are much more demanding than they were in '77. Watch them, and pretend it's twenty years ago, and realise that the 'best bit' (as the end of a story alsways is) has already been seen, or don't watch them at all.

R.I.P. Star Wars: Conceived 1973 - Born 1977 - Died 1997 - Fondl
by regicidal_maniac
Star Wars died with the bastardised re-releases. Anyone who thinks otherwise is WRONG. Han Solo shoots first - My arse he does. The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, The Sinister Hand of Doom may look and sound like Star Wars to some but so does The Fifth Element, Titan AE and a multitude of other pretenders to the throne. I used to think the Lucas who made THX1138, American Graffiti, Star Wars was a different one to the one who created The Phantom Menace. As if he had been replaced with a podperson, much like Steven Spielberg has. You have the "I'm fresh out of film school" Lucas and the "act at that blue screen while standing on this red X, I'll just be over here approving some more merchandise" Lucas. One of them was in close contact with one of the greatest filmmakers of our time, Francis Ford Coppola, (come on people this is the real reason why Graffiti is so good), and he also took suggestions from those who knew better. The other one fired his best "No-Man" (Gary Kurtz) and surrounded himself with lickspittles. Unfortunately the truth is they ARE the same person. It's what happens when some filmmakers get old and start to obsess about their kids and financial security. Lucas has lost his passion for the "James Bond meets Flash Gordon space opera" film series for adults that he once made. Number of arms/hands lopped off in each of the OT = at least 1 per movie. Number of arms/hands lopped off in The Phantom Menace = 0. The PT IS for children. The unfucked OT was not made exclusively with kiddies palates in mind.
There are two Star Wars trilogies one was a cool epic story about a young man's journey into adulthood as he faced his fears and teamed up with a bunch of misfits and rogues who in turn prove themselves. It had space battles, lightsabers and romance. The other is a series of two hour hasbro/playstation game commericials with lightsabers and space battles and good actors staring blankly at the approximate spot where their costars are supposed to be. "Supertakes", "we'll fix it in post", "reshoots for the OT to streamline the transition between trilogies". These things, Star Wars is not. Boy am I glad I own the Definitive THX WS OT on LD.
Harry Lime: Using the internet as it was originally intended to be used - for the further research of pornography and pipebombs. -
Man, you're so right about the death of the classic Star Wars we all grew up with. I also call the holy box my own, and no, I will never ever sell it.
-
First of all Harry, that's LUKE'S theme playing under the Amadala and Anakin scenes, not Han and Leia's. I thought you of all people would know that.
Second...I have mixed feelings. I DO think this trailer looks promising and have high hopes for the film. I think Harry nailed it. This is a part of my childhood and I desperately want it to be good again.
That being said...the dialog was fairly awful. Just little things that could be easily fixed. Like when Amadala says, "You're not all powerful, Ani." and he says, "Well I should be." What he SHOULD say do is look at her coldly and say, "I will be." recalling when Yoda said to Luke, "You will be. You WILL be." A small change, but it would make for a better scene. And "Someday I'll be the most powerful Jedi ever." It's the "ever" that makes the line seem stilted. What he should say is, "Someday I'll be the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy." Another example of a small change that would help. As for the acting...I've seen Portman in other movies and Christianson in Life As A House...what DOES Lucas do to these people? Is his direction, "Act like a robot"? I don't get it.
Despite all that I still remain optimistic. And I'll be there in line on May 16th. Because I am, after all, George Lucas' bitch.

I meant Leia's Theme, not Luke's. My brain thought one thing and I typed another. But still, NOT Han and Leia's theme.

"Who's the more foolish...the fool or the fool who follows him?"
"You can't win Darth. If you strike me down, I'll become more powerful than you can possibly imagine" (Yeah, floating around giving Luke advice).
What do these lines all have in common? THEY ARE COMPLETE AND UTTER SHITE!!! Criticizing Star Wars for it's dialogue is like shouting at a dog for barking, and I'd like someone to point out a great performance in a Star Wars movie for me... -
Has anyone else had a problem with this? I went to see Harry Potter and the trailer, but the trailer never played. I asked one of those 19-year-olds-in-a-poorly-fitted-suit managers and he very abrubtly said that was just an internet rummor. He seemed very perturbed by the question, probably because he was inundated with it all day. He said at this theater (in Plano, Tx)it was playing with Monsters Inc. I tried to explain that the official Star Wars website said it was with Harry Potter, but he seemed very apathetic towards my cause.
BTW, the Monster's Inc. trailer made especially for Harry Potter is absolute genius.
BTW-Part Deux, Dreamworks annimation is going to take a big step back with that Horse movie they are making, Cimarron or whatever. The preview should nothing about the story except horses running around. As a Mouse lover, this makes me giggle. -
If you're not a fan of Star Wars, I don't give a damn what you think. But if you are, please consider these points:
1. Star Wars has always had subpar acting. That's a fact. The reason why Luke, Han and Leia were so great is not because the actors gave Oscar-worthy performances. It's because the relationship between them was believable and the verbal sparring was witty. If AOTC can recapture that feel, people will forgive a lot.
2. The trailers for TPM did make the film look better than it was (though it was still very good). The same could be true of the AOTC trailers, but at least we've seen examples of humor and emotion in them, which was mostly lacking from the characters in TPM. People actually laugh in Episode 2.
3. Go into AOTC with an open mind, but don't expect a life-changing experience. That's the best policy.
Finally, Regicidal Maniac, at least one of your points was incorrect. TPM was not toned down because it didn't have any limbs chopped off. In case you missed it, one character was impaled on a lightsaber and another was cut in half. Seems pretty graphic to me.
May the force be with you! -
The second half of this trailer looks awesome, without a doubt. Count Dooku with the lightsaber, Jango Fett shooting, and Anakin about to kak the Tusken Raider/Mace Windu/Whoever definitly made me reconsider Episode II, which I had pretty much written off after The Phantom Menace. I was on the fence about Episode I for awhile, finding excuses for it just because it had the name Star Wars on it, but after repeated video viewings, I had to quit fooling myself and admit it sucked. It sucked. Jar-Jar sucked, Jake Lloyd sucked, Natalie (boy, is she hot, but she just can't seem to get emotion into ANY line of dialouge), etc. The problem with Episode I (besides the pointless plot) was the lack of any interesting characters. Look at the original trilogy. We had Luke, Han, Leia, Vader, Lando, Chewie...I cared more about the comic relief droids than I did about Anakin or Padme in TPM. Additionally, I thought alot of the CG in Episode I looked terrible. I can sit through the non-special edition (shudder) of A New Hope without much of a problem. The X-Wings don't look great, but they get the job done. The Death Star battle in Return of the Jedi is, almost 20 years later, still the best looking space battle I've ever seen. George is big on technology, and there's nothing wrong with that, but using CG simply for the sake of using CG can get grating. But I digress. The acting in this trailer was good and bad. GOOD - Obi-Wan ("You haven't learned anything!"). BAD - Natalie and Anakin. I'm far from a Thesbian, but ANYONE who tries to argue to that the acting in this trailer was good ought to be forced to sit through every high school play currently in production in America. It was awful. Awful. Listen to the kid's tantrum in the house on Tatooine. Listen to Natalie saying "Ani!" I've taken shits with more emotion. I have no problem with Natalie normally, she's pretty good in other flicks, so one must look in George's direction. Arguing that there was bad acting in the original trilogy isn't gonna cut it, folks. Hayden here makes Mark Hamill look like Jimmy Stewart- And, the originals had Harrison Ford, who couldn't give a bad delivery with a gun to his head. However, bad acting can be dealt with. I will live. Again, I can't allow myself to get to excited, since I was praising the TPM trailers like crazy when they first appeared, but I do have a little more hope for Episode II. On a final note, there is an awful lot of animosity towards Lord of the Rings here. I love Star Wars (at least, the real Star Wars). I don't see why people are feeling so threatened by Fellowship. Watch the trailers to THAT. They look amazing. There is no doubt in my mind that Lord of the Rings is gonna be far, far superior to anything George "I like money" Lucas will churn out in the next four years. I'm not trying to insult anyone personally. I'll certainly be there opening night for Episode II, shitty title not withstanding. But, if I had a gun to my head, and someone told me I could see either Fellowship or Episode II before they pulled the trigger, I'd go with Fellowship without hesitation. I've yet to see ANYTHING disapointing re: Lord of the Rings, ESPECIALLY the acting, which I've already heard some Episode II supporters bash in defense of the obvious hamhanded lines in "their" flick. The acting in LOTR is looking great. Imagine Hayden or Natalie trying to deliver "It must be cast into the fires of Mount Doom", or, "There is evil there that does not sleep". It's a frightening thought.
-
Let's relax for a minute and
back-away from the Star Wars stuff. Frankly, this "Annie" seems like a stiff, and remember: we can still smell ick from the Phantom Minus.
I think a lot of folks see the boba fett on the screen and the armor and such and figure, "wow, star wars is bACK!!" Well, this Fett character was an AFTERTHOUGHT from Lucas. He's only in there to make-up for the Jarjar crap before.
This movie seems like a drag already. Harry et. al. got a little too excited about the phantom minus, and now, this one. I think it's time to back-away and maybe relax. Maybe go on a nice drive or jog through the woods or something I dunno.
-
You are mistaken, they used Leia's Theme during Anakin and Amidalas love scenes in the trailer. Han and Leia's theme is cmpletely different. There are alot of nuances between the two.

Yes, the acting in the part of the trailer where Anakin and Padme meet grates. Oooh yes. But they also seem natural and really good together in the waterfall scene. So fair do's.
Also its a trailer so it could well be edited to innanity. For example (in recent memory) the main trailer for Jay & Silent Bob was - this had Jason Lee telling the duo about the Bluntman & Chronic movie in it (a scene I'd already caught on the first Internet trailer) and yet the same scene was snipped in the main trailer to sound really unnatural, disjointed and stupid.
Here's hoping.
By the way, is there any way to change your AICN password? I'm sick of typing in some messed up bunch of letters (no "don't post then" jokes please). -
Did anyone notice how many outfits she wore IN THE TRAILER ALONE?! I counted six. That means Lucas will be having his way with me once again come April, when the new batch of action figures come out. I no longer have any choice in the matter, you see, because I became utterly whipped when I plunked down my ten bucks for the Luke and Bacta Tank set. Luke's in his diaper, and you can even fill the tank with water and blow in the little hose to simulate breathing. No, I haven't tried that feature yet...I still have some dignity!

I love this firggin' trailer. I downloaded yesterday and I cant stop watching it and talking abou it. Its simply amazing. When Anakin is like crying angery about how Obi Wan is holding him back and then says later "One day I will be the most powerful jedi ever!" and we see him riding his speeder thru tatooine with the sunsets in the background and the music strikes up I GET FRIGGIN GOOSEBUMPS and I feel that energy and excitement that I honestly cant remember when I felt last. I thought TPM was good and was a lot better than most entertainment today and its still fun to watch and is engaging even upon multiple viewings. It cant be any worse than TPM folks. I think were in for some more Star Wars fun that we all love (even the stupid Talk Back bashers who hate everything.)

I was looking at Christopher Lee's lightsaber, and it looks as if it curves at the bottom (look at the last frame where you see him). Is that an opening for another light saber blade? Also, this was the best trailer that I have ever seen. I think the lines were delivered pretty well, and I love the way Anakin smirks when he says "yes m'lady." He seems really good. Also, I didn't think that Natalie portman could be any more beautiful, but she is. The scenes at the waterfall are beautiful. The leather suit....what can I say. I can't wait. the only thing that lingers in the back of my mind is how good the Ep.1 trailers were...and we all know how that turned out. but to everyone, trust the force. The stars are lining up for this one folks."Attack of the Clones" is going to be the movie I dreamed of when I was 12- just like "A New Hope" was.
We all know "Episode I" had problems, but I thought it was still very good, and parts of it (Maul/Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan saber battle) were incredible. It seems the Uncle George has either evolved with this one- or created a clone of himself (circa 1977-1980). In regards to the newest trailer- it is clear that Lucas has created what might a companion piece to the original trilogy- as well as the definative "STAR WARS". The acting in the trailer is fine- and in keeping with the characters. Lucas isn't rehashing the Han Solo/Princess Leia thing, this is different- very different. Also, some of the dialogue in the "Phantom Menace" trailers were different than what was in the final film. I'm sure that some of that will be different after the actors loop the movie.
The look of the film is stunning (can't wait for the "Art of 'ATTACK OF THE CLONES'" book!) and the action scenes look to easily surpass anything we've seen ("STAR WARS" or otherwise) and will rock! I'm drooling like a mad dog in anticipation of the next chapter of "STAR WARS"!

You know, I watched the trailer, but I wasn't exactly blown away by it. Everyone (including myself) is really excited to see the next movie, but this trailer didn't make me any more excited than when I saw the first Ep1 trailer. This trailer was beautifully put together. The way it STRUCTURALLY displays an EPIC romance with many dimensions...a story about CHARACTER. Just like the OT. It wasn't till EMPIRE that the characters got DEEP and interesting. Their traits are only hinted at in their respective first episodes. TPM and ANH are the INTROS. Episode 2 and 5 are the INTERIOR ones. BTW: Hayden rocks. Anyone who criticizes him in this trailer is just a moron. Not worthy of even getting into a discussion about the finer points of acting. You've just shown your true colors. Sorry....but you DON'T HAVE A CLUE. Go back to playing with your little dicks/vibrators.
-
What I love about the ROMANCE part of the trailer was it displayed TRANSITIONS in the LOVE STORY: The way it builds from ANAKIN/PADME's first awkward meetings.....to that moment in the NABOO grasslands (This is the most NATURALISTIC scene I've seen in any SW film)....to their moment in the LARS GARAGE....I felt the transition. THE WAY THEIR LOVE HAS OPENED EACH OTHER UP. Don't forget one of the most SURPRISING things Lucas did in the prequels was introduce the JEDI as being flawed. Sure they represent GOOD....but they are VERY FLAWED. They so fear EMOTION as leading to the dark side of the force, they fear ALL EMOTION. They have lost some of their HUMANITY. Qui-Gon was a MINOR rebel to the order. Dooku a bigger one. ANAKIN WILL BE THE BIGGEST. His two loves (his mother and Padme) will be the EMOTIONAL catalyst to his breaking from the Jedi...but not necessarily the REASON he takes his journey to the DARKSIDE. He CHOSE the path he took. It was still his DECISION. He must be rsponsible for his actions.
-
......are dorks. Like reading "gboybama" and "killing god's" posts. "Oh gee, we liked Jango Fett, we must be Milhouse!!" Hyuk Hyuk!
Well, sorry for finding interest in these things. What did you want us to do, hiss as the whole trailer. The trailer was made FOR US, and we have the right to like it, dammit.
I have one question for the EXTREME TRAILER BASHERS who want to lop off Lucas' head and go so far as to call him the greatest loser of the century(I respect the normal ones who have slight criticisms)-- will you "Lucas- Haters" be SEEING AOTC -- YES OR NO??? If you say yes, then you're the biggest fucking hypocrite I've seen in a long time!
Fine, keep your ludicrous opinions (and poorly supported as well)....I hope on opening day you liars will be there, and some fat lady mistakenly sits on your laps and crushes the wind out of you. I KNOW you'll also buy the AOTC dvd as well. Damn you, hypocrites. -
Okay not all of you, but many of you talkbackers are cynical fools spending more time searching for things to hate rather than enjoying the wonder that is cinema. This new trailer is fantastic. I was an utter mess of emotions after first viewing. But I will say that you cannot be sure that any film will be good or bad judging from a trailer. We'll all have to wait till May, but I will still take a moment to express a few thoughts. Remember how Ep 1 was all about a bright world, happiness, innocence, hopes and dreams, and first triumphs? Geez, sure sounds like childhood. And what do you know, Anakin was a child then! Now this new trailer seems to show a film about a darker world, awkward romance, loss, and emotional outbursts. Wowsers, that sure sounds a lot like being a teenager. And wow would you look at that! Anakin is a teenager in this film. Instead of busting on Ep 1 for being a "kiddy" film, did you ever consider that maybe Lucas is molding the films to reflect Anakin's progression? Sure does seem to make sense. And as far as Ep 2, you all seem to think that Lucas is bowing to the fans and changing his vision to please you. Don't flatter yourselves. I highly doubt that he cares. Lucas is doing his own thing despite what any of you say. You really think he thought the fans wanted a Jar Jar Binks character? You think he thought fans wanted Anakin to ever say "yipee?" Lucas is just making Star Wars the way he sees it, not trying to please fans, and that's a good thing because a guy could go crazy trying to please all of you finicky talkbackers. Ep 2 is dark because Lucas always planned to make the films progressively darker, not because of any of you. Now, moving on with the trailer, all of you who think Lucas is working to hide Jar Jar's presence are completely out of it. We already know that Jar Jar is only in one scene, or so I've heard from plenty of talkbackers who read that rough cut review. So stop worrying about Jar Jar, he's practically gone, it's over, sleep soundly and continue your lives. I have to agree with everyone talking about how the characters are acting restrained and stunted because they are. This is the old republic not the empire. These people are not dealing with their emotions. Their awkward attempts at sweet talk are to be expected. For those of you who say Anakin sounds like a spoiled teenager or an angry frat boy, OF COURSE HE DOES! If I had to look at my peers and decide who's the most likely to become Darth Vader, I would say asshole frat boys. These spoiled, arrogant, entitled bastards are the worst people around. Of course that's how the future Darth Vader would act. Do you want him sitting in a basement pulling wings off of flies or some shit? This guy is a power spoiled, angry teen who's going to slice a bunch of Tusken Raiders to ribbons, and that's fine with me. So, in short, Natalie's acting has improved, Hayden is right for the character, Jar Jar is minimal, everyone else is good as always, it looks beautiful, and Jango Fett will kick all kinds of ass. Or so I feel now from just the trailer, but again, none of us will know until the lights go down in that theatre on May 16th. I know we'll all keep expressing our opinions until then, but let's at least be reasonable about it and present strong cases as opposed to the standard caps lock, expletive laden, moron posts that are all too common.
Thank you for your time.
P.S. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone rules. -
how do you expect a movie to last through 5 sequels? Episodes 4-6 were great, but this new stuff is crap! Mark my words, LOTR will rule!!
-
Let's just admit this, whether you think the trailer sucked or not... does it really matter? We know this movie is $900,000,000 box office material, no matter how much it does suck (which it will not!). And we all know that the hype and media coverage this movie will get prior to its' release will raise it to TITANIC levels, if not, surpassing it. Whether the trailer is cool or whether the movie itself is cool, will be deemed "cool" by the amount of money poured into the box office by the public.
Will the haters and lovers of Star Wars (specifically this preview) admit to this? -

by wee willie
This trailer looked amazing.

Anyone who has any memory and gives a damn knows that I have posted on AICN for a while now and that when something gets under me I can go off.
It's no secret what trash I thought TPM was and I made no bones about it. I stated all my reasons clearly and logically and tried to be fair and point out pros.
That being said...this trailer is good. Just like TPM's original trailer was awesome. I don't intend to let my hopes get falsely raised...but even in a worse case scenario...at least there is going to be more cool stuff to take in like the army of Fetts and the battles. This movie does have a thankfully darker undertone to it. I think this has to be better than TPM was...how could it get much worse? -
your arguments are for shit mah boy! This trailer is fine for what it is, too bad they leave all the cool stuff to the 1 second clipfest at the end. However, Anakin strikes me as some dorky teenage "anger-dweeb" and I find it EXTREMELY unbelievable that anyone of Padme's supposed sophistication would come close to being attracted to him! Therefore, the love story in SW2 is gonna be a total stretch and judging from the trailer, that's gonna be half of the movie! SW2 may make more money than LoTR, but there is no doubt in my mind which will be the better film. Choke on it, BasherPeesStraight!

The third sith(Only real star wars fans and lovers of movies nee
by movieplex
If any of the real sar wars fans
notice that in the mystery trailer anikin gets hit by a bolt of lighting like the empeor used in ROTJ in the third he is waviing his lightsaber at some unknown opponent but it is not tyrannus. I S THERE ANOTHER SITH IN THIS NEW MOVIE?.All we know about dooku is that he left the order and is a dark jedi never has it been said that he is a sith. What's the difference? Well
it means he's like an honourary sith but not a sith he has a title of one but he won't be a sith master because he's fully trained he's an ally because he has too much power in the film, he leads a pretend revelution not even maul had such power which leads me to believe that sidious has a sith apperntice in the film
the field agent, the one that does the dirty jobs until the moment of glory comes for them.
The rumour is that annie's mother
gets killed by sand people when in fact she was killed by aurra sing. Now in the comics her back ground is that she was an ex jedi apprentice that has gonoff on her own but has a growing hatred of the jedi and some jedi powers.
Now the comics can't do stuff without lucus's approval and it is known that this character has a bigger part in the movie.I doubt that the would be emperor would hire this particular character when he could easily turn her into the dark side and get her services for free.Remember lucas has stated that the second and third films is about the emperor trying to get a new apprentice which leads
me to episode three. How would you turn anakin who is the most powerful jedi around. If the rumour is true taht chris. lee's character escapes at the end of the film then i reckon you will get a reverse on what we saw on episode 1 2 sith vs one jedi. This will intensify the anger of anakin and the battle which will demonstrate why he is what he will become. The only thing i can think of if the emperor let's slip that one of the sith he's about of to fight killed his mother and if any star wars fan knows that once turned to the dark side you are compelled to serve the master ie sidious. -
I'm surprised this one is slipping through the cracks. Great movie.

"LORD OF THE RINGS" WILL FLOP!!! "EPISODE II" WILL RULE!!!!
by younggeorgelucas
Now that I have your attention- I will proceed. I believe that most of those who appear to exist simply to endlessly bash "Episode I" and now it's sequel would have to be labeled as mentally ill. Or maybe it's like the old saying: "You always hurt the one you love".... C'mon fanboys, you can admit you really liked Jar Jar- "your thoughts betray you...".
"Episode II" looks to be a incredible movie, and I can't wait to see it- regardless of what some dork who likes Dark Horse Predator vs. ALIENS comics and listens to Eminem has to say.
I was (sort of) kidding about "LOTR" being a flop- but you must remember that that is possible. The Bakshi animated version tanked and tanked hard. I'm sure opening week will be huge for this new film, but I'm betting it (and "Harry Potter") drops like a rock in weeks number 2 and 3.
YGL -
I gotta agree with half of what you said. While I'm sure there's no way LOTR will tank (look at the opening day of Harry Potter, it's gonna be about the same for LOTR) but yes, nothing can be certain for weeks 2 and 3. I think Harry Potter has week 2 in it's pocket - Thanksgiving weekend it's gonna be a cash cow. But as the weeks go on just about everyone will have seen it and it'll die down I think. Spy Game and Vanilla Sky will take a bit of it's money and I think Ocean's Eleven will grab the top spot on it's opening release from Harry Potter. Lord of the Rings will kick everything in it's sites ass when it opens but as for the weeks following? I really hope it does well that's for damn sure, but nothing is for certain as you said. To get on subject real quick - this new trailer has got my hopes way up now. I was very disappointed in the internet trailer but this one, this one is beautiful.

READ THIS! I saw an article saying that Lucas is planning to add
by sk909
Don't know if anyone else saw the article, but on Empire magazine's website on Friday, there was a piece about Lucas shooting and adding additional footage to the EXISTING TRILOGY FOR YET ANOTHER SPECIAL EDITION!!! The article says it will debut along with Episodes 1,2, and 3 in some sort of set around the middle of this decade. Just wondering what everyone else thinks of this, and I'm wondering why I didn't hear anything from this site or other sites. The article seems to quote Lucas himself from an interview. It also stated that he has finished writing Episode 3 and even said that the would do Episodes 7,8, and 9 after a twenty year break, which would put him at about the age of 80. By then his large neck should be unmanagably large, making him a shoe-in for the part Jabba's long lost cousin.
-
I can't say it looks like a perfect movie. I worry about Lucas's commitment to actors and dialogue (especially after some of his comments on the PHANTOM DVD). He's got such a great cast, such a great story arc, so many opportunities to tell a brillant fable that I hope I'm not just willing this next episode to be great. That said, I can honestly say the teaser and trailer has got me juiced again. The visuals are splendid (Natalie Portman in skin tight black leather!! Thank heaven for little girls...) and the story certainly is angling towards a darker, more ominous tone. The footage of Obi Wan and Jango Fett are thrilling. It'll be hard to top the lightsabre duel in PHANTOM, but this might just do it. And, hopefully, with the love story, Lucas will again focus on his great characters, and not Trade Federation nonsense. At least one of my great fears has been resolved: The shooting on High Definition Video tape actually does look like film, at least in clips. I know someone who's working on the movie and all he'll say is that the movie really does look like film. Judging from the trailer, he wasn't kidding. I hope for the best for this great franchise which, whether it always delivers or not, never seems to phone it in, like other long running franchises (Bond, Star Trek). And that breathing still gets the blood going.

You can take your head out of George's lap now, high-whatever your name is... the money's on the dresser.
-
Here's the difference between lord of the rings and star wars (besides the very obvious...middle earth/in a galaxy far far away..):
Peter Jackson. He doesn't own everything!!! He's not too "comfortable" like Lucas has become. He absolutely has to make a great movie, there is too much at stake. George Lucas can wipe his ass with 100 dollar bills from the production budget and no one will dare say a word to him about it.
Nameless-yesman1: George what are you doing in there?
George: I'm wiping my ass with 100 dollar bills from the production budget.
Nameless-yesman2: Do you think it's a good idea.
George: Of course it is, I can do anything I want, do you have any money on you?
Nameless-yesman3: I have 2 twenties and a ten.....
Nameless-yesman4: I have a few hundred on me..
George: Well slide it under the door.....hurry up!!
Yesman5-R. Callum (aka Vince McMahon): Um, George the movie is really starting to fucking blow, I'm so glad we've fooled everyone into thinking this is going to be a fucking masterpeice (Callum likes the F-word) .....we got real lucky after that last one....
George: Leave me in peace!!! You know I can't direct! why are you bothering me with these details? What are you gonna do about it? If you don't like what I'm doing you can find yourself a new job!
R Callum: No problem here sir, I just wish I could assist you personally......Do you want me to run to the bank?
and so on and so on...
The new movie could be okay, I just don't like that George Lucas could be making something really great and he is obviousely not because he doesn't have that "hunger" or drive that he once did. It's more disappointing than anything really.

Lucas apologists have settled for substandard film making techni
by regicidal_maniac
... and that's fine for them. If the Jar Jar fans (such as BasherSucksHard) think it's necessary or even possible to reset their expectations of a given film to the 5 year old level of acceptance for lame storytelling and bad plot devices then great, the rest of us however are less tolerant. We actually DO like Star Wars, and can even deal with the Ewoks because overall the story arc of Jedi was pretty cool. Despite what those who are willing to lap up whatever Lucas excretes say, The Phantom Menace does not work as a stand-alone film. Now I know what you'll say next "but you have to understand that this film is just one part of a much larger story and it'll be clear where it stands when you watch all six films in a row...". Bullshit. This is utter bullshit. From a narrative point of view a story, any story, must show something work before it can be seen to not work, it also helps if the audience knows what to expect. In TPM Qui Gon uses the Jedi Mind trick first successfully on the Gungans then later unsuccessfully on Watto (that was lame by the way). And in neither case was it explained what he was doing. If this is the first movie in the series and not merely a sequel set years before the other films then are we as an audience just expected to wait until Obi Wan explains to Luke in ANH that "the Force can have a strong influence on the weak minded"? So we have to sit there for over six hours wondering why Qui Gon waves his hand in peoples faces successfully or not before we find out what he was doing? This my dear little Lucas suckerfish is bad story telling. It is an insult to the audience and an abuse of narrative structure. In response to GargleFoamyWhite's question as to how I know that Lucas originally indended for the OT to be "James Bond meets Flash Gordon" the answer is simple: from early interviews where he cites his inspirations as the James Bond novels and films, John Carter of Mars, the Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers serial dramas and of course Akira Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress all grounded in Joseph Campbell's the Hero's Journey. When you speak without knowledge you reveal the depth of your ignorance, child. Remember, it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt. Yes these new Star Wars movies are "just movies" but the OT was not, it has a certain something else. It appeals to people of all ages there is something in it for everyone. The new one was "C-Span in space", it was altertately colourful and boring. It's a kid's movie about taxation. If one dimensional characters with no pasts are your bag then TPM is for you. There are others that expect, nay demand, more from our movies. There are those here that will respond that the original trilogy was no different, that the acting a dialogue has always been on the nose but this is simply not true. The original cast gave something more to their characters, something that is missing from the filmed line readings of the new films. Lucas has always said he is not an actor's director, and he has admitted that he is no good with dialogue. Why on Earth would anyone let this man near a filmset? Other than the fact that he's rich. The man knows how to produce and how to come up with a basic story. He hired cowriters FOR ALL THREE of the original films and spent the first half of the 1970s writing, submitting, taking notes from rejection letters and friends, rewriting with Gloria Katz & Willard Huyck and resubmitting his script for ANH before it was finally filmed. As a director he was still adhering to the rules of good directing having only recently learnt them. For the other two films he had the good sense to hire good screenwriters and good directors to lift the bar a bit. TPM was written by Lucas himself (the weekend before principle photography it would seem). The film was written entirely by a man who himself has said he finds writing a painful process and one at which he admits he is not very good. The script was shown to no-one least of all the actors themselves and then directed by a guy who's previous directing experience was some twenty years prior. Is there any wonder the films sucks so hard? There are rules to writing and directing when they are ignored films like TPM are the result. Any of the EU writers could have delivered a better story, hell even some fan stories are probably better. George Lucas IS without a doubt the least talented person at ILM. He managed to pull bad performances out of good actors because he only cares about your money and how a certain shot LOOKS. It would bug him if the action figures weren't done right but it makes no never mind to him that watching 133 minutes of soup cooling would be more interesting than having to sit through "Master Qui Gon, I've been wondering, what are midichlorians? And why weren't they mentioned in the other three films?" one more time. Bleah. I LIKE STAR WARS. This just isn't it. Now you can commence with the obligatory "but they're his films and he can do what he wants with them" posts. Harry Lime: Using the internet as it was originally intended to be used - for the further research of pornography and pipebombs.

Yep, occasionally we get one over you guys in the States. Went to see Harry Potter at the Odeon Leicester Square last night, and before the film was stunned to see the Lucasfilm logo appear, followed by the full 2 minutes plus Attack of the Clones trailer in 70mm widescreen with Dolby stereo. That pisses on those sad 'secret' DVD experiences. The film looks terrific, and Lucas is heavily stressing the romance - I get the message, this won't be a kids film. Okay, so Watto is still there, but no sign of Jar Jar, and hopefully no bloody kids until we get the baby Luke and Leia in Episode III. Also had the full Lord of the Rings trailer last night - both of these got as much of a cheer from the audience as Harry Potter itself did. And yes, it was excellent - something else us Brits can get right! High Spirits, anyone?

"What a piece of junk!". Is this a bad episode of Melrose Place or what? Lucas is again going for the under 8 audience. All that was missing was Anakin and Amadala running across a field towards each other in slow motion. What has Lucas done?
Jesus H Christ George wake up! I want to see Jedi training, learn about the origins of the Sith, see Obi Wan's character develop, discover more about the Jedi order, watch the Clone Wars unravel and all that good stuff. What I do not want to see is a half-assed plot about 2 teenagers falling in Love. Especially one that is badly acted and filled with shite dialog.
"Obi Wan split the queen and I up! That's it, I'm gonna be Darth Vader!"
Are we supposed to believe that losing Amadala is what makes Anakin turn his back on Obi Wan, devote his life to evil and help slaughter the entire Jedi order? For this to believable it would need to be brilliantly scripted and tremendously well acted.
If Lucas wants to make this type of shit he should do so under a non-Star Wars banner.
All we need now is for Jar Jar to find a girlfriend and become a Jedi Knight.
My expectations are now at an all time low. I pray I am wrong. -
I don't want to get to excited till the movie comes out, cause the phantom menace trailers were cool as well, but it seems from this like Hayden might be a good actor, unlike his predecessor. That part at the end where he looks as if he's about to decapitate someone, that was cool. Maybe this movie stands a chance of redeeming TPM after all.
-
Star Wars or Lord of the Rings? It all depends: You guys wanna play with a Natalie Portman action figure or a Liv Tyler action figure? I've always been a Natalie man myself.
-
Oh Oh look how wrong I was - Harry Potter beat TPM at box office and may just get around 200 million in 10 days. And here I was for the past few weeks saying how Harry Potter didn't have a large enough fanbase for the movie to even slightly succeed, thinking it'd be the biggest flop. God I'm such a moron, maybe if I change what I said people will believe me - wrong you fuckin quack! Lord of the Rings can't stand on it's own? You know both Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings ARE FANTASY so both fanbases kind of run off each other. I'm sure you think that there's this whole hated society between Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings but HP fans are very excited to see LOTR as well - I'd know, cause when the trailer for Fellowship of the Ring came beford Sorcerer's Stone the crowd went ape shit. 93 million you said? It'll make twice that. I don't see Fellowship getting anywhere under 200 million. As one said before, there is the possibility that it can tank and we can't really tell until we get to the 2nd and 3rd week but I can assure you it will hold in there enough to make 200 million. Why? Look at the 2nd week - Christmas. Look at the 3rd week - New Years. These days are some of the biggest money making days throughout the year - and LOTR will stomp all over them. So I do think 200 million is a very likely number for Fellowship, although I do hope it makes much more than that, but we never can tell. I do know it's gonna make much more than 93 million. Listen Basher, I know your predictions have been off since you thought Lake Placid and Reindeer Games were gonna be on the top 10 highest grossing films of all time but it's time to grow a brain now, ok? No no, Driven wasn't the biggest film this year - stop being so upset over it. You'll just have to understand others taste for once.
-
hmm......looks just like a darth vader without the helmet!very intresting angle george lucas!even has the chain link holding his cloak on. cool!!

BasherkillsRrite displays all the confused thinking of the average Star Wars nerd.
On the one hand they make much of the fact that no films make as much as the Star Wars films and that no director has the same financial clout. Here they are wrong. James Cameron's films have made more money than films that Lucas has directed and Steven Spielberg has made almost as much as both put together.
Then, when they come up against something that has made more than Star Wars, ie Titanic they try to claim that the figures are wrong or faked.
They do not explain why the only films whose figures are not faked they claim to be Star Wars. Face it, you have no evidence that Potter or Titanic's figures are faked. The sorry truth is that Star Wars is not as universal as you like to believe.
As for Potter not being widely popular. It may not be for my age group but it doesn't take any great intellect (hopefully you qualify) to see that it has been the most successful series of books for kids for years. Possibly the most popular full stop.
I liked Star Wars when it first came out. It was a kids film and I was a kid so why shouldn't I. However anyone can see the flaws inherent in the prequels.
1) Re-use of charecters an locations. Jango Fett? Come on, just a cynical attempt to resurect a geek favourite. And how many times can they go back to Tatooine? Lets see, Anakin was born there, his mother was killed there, he met his future wife (the mother of luke and leia there), he met Obi Wan there, he started his journey to the dark side there. Seems a great place for Obi Wan to secret Luke doesn't it?
2) Its supposed to be a galaxy yet everyone knows each other. C3-PO was built by Anakin, R2-D2 met Lukes mum, dad etc etc. For a vast galaxy people do seem to keep bumping into each other.
3) No-one can argue that the acting is good. It is poor. It is all very well to argue that the original trilogy had bad acting but remember that you were a kid when you watched it. You're supposed to be an adult now, you're supposed to be a little more discerning. As well as the fact that Harrison Ford's performances in the original trilogy were far superior to any thus far in this one.
Lastly, BasherkillsRrite, why is it impossible for HP or LOTR to beat any Star Wars film? I am not saying that I think they will but claiming that it is impossible is ridiculous, especially so when you are already getting your excuses re Potter in. -
Also, BasherkillsRrite.
Who cares about Titanic now and who cared about it then?
Are you for real?
Titanic is not a good film for me but to claim the above shows how dense you are.
The people cared enough about it then to put its box office into the stratosphere. They cared enough to reward it with a record haul of oscars (how many did Phantom Menace get?). And I am quite sure that James Cameron cared when the box office figures ensured him a bumper pay day. It also ensured that Leo's pay packet per film went through the roof.
So yeah, a lot of people cared.
Who cares now? Well, due to the box office James Cameron could probably get a film of him taking a dump green-lit so yeah I'd say its still important now.
Oh, and you say that Star Wars was profound!?! What the F**K? Precisely what part fo it was profound? Tell us all exactly what you mean here, if you can? -
The only thing that bored me more than that trailer was this talkback. I mean, Christ - who cares?
-
For a couple of years now I have just come to this website and read an occasional talkback but I held my breath when pessimistic morons like some of you go off about the dumbest things even when you have no idea what you are talking about. Well, I'm going to start to fight back....
First off all this is one of the greatest trailers I have ever seen. I had goosebumps almost half-way through. I cannot wait until May 16 just so I can see how great the movie and come back and rub in the faces of the people who obviously have nothing better to do than sit on their fat lonely asses and complain just for the sake of being a jerk.
We all know jar jar was annoying but he will be far less prevelent in this film and you need to get that through your heads. And what is with the big rivalry between E2 and LOTR. They are completly different!!!!! The only thing in common is that they are both trilogys so get off it!
I've said enough now, but I will return. I promise. -
..In the trailer, it was NOT Han and Leia's love theme from ESB. Geesh.
-
BasherkillsRrite, do you actually know what you are saying!?! You seem to believe that all box office figures are faked. Every film has had its box office inflated apart from Phantom Menace which was under declared. Are you for real? You know that this is paranoia don't you! You have no evidence that any of the box office figures you mention are faked. Now you were saying that HP would die at the box office but now it must be rigged.
As for the impact that Star Wars had on peoples lives? Well myself and all my friends saw it when we were growing up. Did it have a major effect on our lives? No, it didn't. But then we all saw Ghostbusters too. Face it Star Wars films are just that. Films. they do not have a large impact on peoples lives. Schindlers List gave a new generation an insight into the Holocaust, what has Star Wars achieved compared to that.
As for impact on the film industry, you say that nothing comes close to Star Wars. Well, here is something that exceeds it. Jaws. The first summer blockbuster movie and the the orignator of the single line description of a movie. For better or worse it has shaped cinema since.
And the fact that a couple of hundred nerds really want to be Jedi and thereby establish a religion. You actually think this is a good thing!?!
Next they'll be debating the colour of lightsabers and making statements about what the colours signify in the new film despite not having seen it.
Oh wait! They're already doing that aren't they.
Oh yeah, and as for Lucas's simplistic version of good and evil being profound? Well I'm sorry but in the original trilogy the good guys were basically terrorists. They were fighting against, what we now know to be a democratically elected government. The only evil thing we really see the empire doing is blowing up Alderaan. Hmmmm, killing a load of innocent people to try to get at some terrorists. Does this sound familiar? Afghanistan? Irag?
This doesn't sound like a very clear version of good and evil to me. Where was the rebellion's mandate? Who were they representing?
But hey, lets get down to basics. HP has beaten the records, beaten TPM's opening takings and you have no evidence to suggest any rigging of figures. Instead of indulging in paranoia, learn to deal with the facts! -
Just accept that the prequel trilogy will not match the original trilogy (specifically ANH and ESB). It was a magical time and place that cannot be recreated. Get over it. Just as long as Lucas is done with cartoon crap characters in the pod race and Jar Jar is a more mature MINOR character I'll be happy. At least Lucas still CARES about his creation and tries to deliver something good. Not like that BITCH Chris Carter who has taken his brilliant creation (The X-Files) and pissed it away into the kind of T&A and blood & guts shit he said he would never do. I think LOTR will be awesome and AOTC will be damn good. Rejoice sci-fi/fantasy geeks! REJOICE!
-
That's the difference.
Lucas has a co-writer - someone who can actually write dialogue and advance plot. -
Here we have a standard answer from a Star Wars geek. Can't answer any of the points in someone's post, simply ignore them!
Truly Classic Basher.
Face facts, the figures are in, you lost.
No, wait, I am sure you are right after all. Of course it is all a big Hollywood plot to rob TPM of its place in history. Yeah lets get all the studio's together, even the one that backed TPM and stitch Lucas up. But hold on, no we've been rumbled, there's one solitary Star Wars geek whose onto us!
What a putz! -
Yeah, Yeah, it's all very cool, but how do I save the damn thing - it doesn't appear in my 'Temp Internet Files' folder!!
Help! The Force is obviously not strong with me! -
Obviously quite a few selected voters cared about the film then, enough to tie it as the most award winning film in the history of films. Do I care? No, not really - I thought it was a good film but I would like to think that the original Star Wars is still the highest grossing film of all time. That's right, I too am a Star Wars fan as I have always been. And the original Star Wars was a revolutionary step in film history. That is something that we should all cherish. And we should also respect the work going into Lord of the Rings - Peter Jackson is the first person in film history to write, direct, and produce three films simaltaneously - something even Georgie Boy admires. And box office numbers faked? Under what purpose would they ever do that? It'd be absolutly pointless - Episode I did not, DID NOT beat Titanic in box office. I'm sorry but it's true. Titanic had a great run at the time because there wasn't shit coming out for months - so it pretty much just glided through many weeks as the number one box office contender. And then when something like Lost in Space comes out finally it falls into 2nd. The Phantom Menace on the other end was released in the summer - with films that could actually put up a fight for the top spot, which was proven right away with Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. And what the fuck are you talking about Harry Potter holding it's spot for six months? Are you fucking mad? That's impossible - that will never be done by any film. Very rarely will a film even stay in theatres for 6 months let alone stay in the top 5, or 10 even. And if you look at what I said about LOTR doing very well during Xmas and New Years, look at Titanic for proof, or any film for that matter. And Harry Potter indeed has a huge fanbase. There's no way you can deny that. If you want a quick estimate - the latest book has had over 30 million copies sold, and hasn't even been released on paperback yet. 30 million readers out there not a big enough fan base? Get a fucking life dude. I'm actually quite concerned now Basher - for awhile I thought you were just trying to get a rise out of people but lacked the real ability to do it cause you were too stupid to say something that ever made sense - now I'm afraid you actually take yourself seriously. I don't know if you could get therapy for your Star Wars obsession problem where you want everything else to fail outside of Georgie Boys films but it's out of control. Go seek some help.

yeah, TPM made a billion dollars domestic, but I didn't tell the taxman! So dummy-up, mkay?
-
I remember when I first saw the Phantom Menace trailer .... that looked like Star Wars to me too, but the final product was so far away from Star Wars that it really, really hurt.
Yep, I also got goose pimples when I saw the trailer to "Attack of the Clones" (or was it Plan C from a galaxy far, far away?), but only because of the deja vu feeling. The trailer says nothing about how the movie is going to be.
To make a long story short - I am VERY sceptic about the trailer AND VERY sceptic about Episode 2. The trailer means nothing and says nothing about the quality of the complete movie. I'll wait until the movie comes out and I've seen it - THEN I can decide whether it's Star Wars or not, but not by looking at a trailer.

"Blockbuster" was coined because of Star Wars, ROTFLMAO
by cuttingroomfloor
Just shows how desparate BashersSleepsLlate is to justify Star Wars in his eyes. And I quote: "The phrase 'blockbuster' was actually coined to describe the line outside of Mann's Chinese Theater in 1977." This just stood out as being too laughable. So I did 5 minutes of net research and came up with this at a word origins site:
---------- Blockbuster -----------
This term has three distinct senses. The earliest use of blockbuster was during World War II, meaning a large aerial bomb. It was formed from the words for a city block and bust, a verb meaning "to break." A blockbuster was a bomb large enough to destroy a city block.
The second sense means anything, especially a movie, play, or book, that is large, important, or popular. The term appears to have arisen shortly after the war, and was probably a play on the concept of the large bomb. Ironically, the term bomb in show business or publishing means a complete failure, while a blockbuster is a huge success.
----------------------------------
So, BasherEatsCcrap, one more of your precious little fanboy notions blown to hell. One more thing: You need to be a little speedier on the Refresh button here in the talk back, lol. -
This talkback has become ridiculous....pulling everything apart...
I don't care if anyone else is looking forward to it
I am....
and so far the trailers are getting me excited... -
If it's a piece of satanic crap than why did you go see it? You know you're only adding to it's grossing and it'll beat your precious little Star Wars films. Still not enough fans eh? You know it did beat the weekend hold from The Lost World finally, a bow not even Phantom Menace could beat. But honestly, who really gives a shit whether you believe the box office is accurate or not. Name one film before Lost in Space came out that was large enough to take the top spot away from Titanic. Come on, name one. Ok, I can see you can't name one which is no surprise. Now how many little girls at that time had a crush on Leonardo Dicaprio enough to see an epic love story over and over and over again? Enough to pull in over 20 million each weekend? But of course. You know I'm so sorry Georgie Boy hasn't made a film yet that can topple James Cameron's "epic" but tis life. Cause after all, Star Wars is behind Gone With The Wind for the most rented film of all time, so I guess that's another record you'd like to declare false. But like I said, I'm overwhelmed by your stupidity that I wouldn't give two shits to what you think, but only worry with concern about what appears to be a very miserable life. Are you this blindsighted by everything in life? Do you try and bash religions, books, sports, and anything else that comes to mind when you're pale ass actually gets outside for once to get away from this website for 10 minutes? Do you have a job that hasn't fired you yet for pissing the manager off about calling off too many times because you never leave these talkbacks for over an hour? Do you realize your age compared to the child that you actually act like, who never seems to mature or probubly never will reach puberty? Do you have (or ever had) a girlfriend/wife that can actually put up with your shit for over one month before she dumps your sad ass because you'd rather be on the internet then on a date? I only ask because I think these are all things we should enjoy or have in life and I have a sad feeling that you don't have none of these. That's quite tragic if it's true - you should really get out more. I mean, I know it's Sunday and just about all of us don't have shit to do but damn man, I've had an account on this website for about a year and I swear you've posted more than I have in a week. So I'd like all posters that are reading this to all show concern and pitty for Basher - I know we all like to laugh at people who are as pointless as this but I think now is a time to show care. You know, maybe after this is all over Basher, we can go out and see Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings together to only add to their appeal - what fun I can see us having there. But in the meantime pal, this buds for you.

Those of you who think the final shot is of a Tusken Raider or perhaps of Darth Maul, based on it having horns, should check again, frame by frame. The "horns" (which I saw, too, at full speed) turn out to be a single apparent horn, which is actually a projection in the background. If you look at the frame directly before the figure's head moves into view, the "horn" projection is clearly visible in the background, and the figure simply moves in front of it. From what I can tell, the head consists of a smooth dark surface, suggesting either a helmet (like Vader's armor), or a shaved black head (like Windu).

With your remarks, I rest my case..
why have so many people got verbal diahorea here?
it's talkbalk not write a novel back.. -
I can't understand the obsession with which movie beat which movie in the box office. There are so many factors at work there (level of competition, mood of the country, hype, etc.) that it's a pretty poor measure of the quality of a film. Perhaps a better measure would be to compare the take from the first two weeks with the take from the next two weeks. That would measure hype vs. staying power. Even that, though, is a pretty weak measure of quality, since it can theoretically end up measuring how much one tiny demographic is willing to pay for repeat viewing (like the young teenage girls who kept Titanic running high, while nursing their crushes on DeCaprio).
Plus, of course, there are variables like inflation (which, if you adjust for it, pushes films like Gone With the Wind, The Sound of Music, The Godfather, Star Wars, and Jaws up the list, and drops more recent films). Then there are the number of screens a film is released on (Harry Potter was on six screens at my local theater, compared to two for Phantom Menace).
Ultimately, who cares? (unless you happen to be a studio exec) Some of the best movies ever made had modest returns at the box office. A brilliant film like "Before Sunrise" (which many critics listed in the top ten of the 90s), will go almost entirely unnoticed, while a collosal stinker like Wild Wild West will move into "blockbuster" territory by sheer hype momentum.
The only important financial concern, from the perspective of a big Star Wars fan like myself, is that Episode II does well enough to justify its cost, so that Lucas will be encourage to spend enough money on Episode III. No question, Episode II will end up making three times what it cost, so why worry?
Beyond that, I'd almost prefer less money, because that's a sign it wouldn't be appealing to the lowest common denominator. The smarter, darker, and more inventive the movie, the fewer people will get it (Empire Strikes Back was the lowest-grossing film of the four, and also the best). Plus, if Episode II scores a little lower in the box office tally, maybe it will liberate Lucas a bit to excercise his dormant auteur instincts, making Episode III as dark, challenging, and cerebral as it needs to be believably to span the plot gap to the desperate place where Episode IV begins.
Let movies like Harry Potter and Titanic take in all the money they want -- they're intended to be please-everyone moneymakers... I'd like to hope that isn't the target Lucas is aiming at, wouldn't you? -
Ok, after seeing the 'forbidden love' trailer for AOTC several times already, my feelings are still a bit mixed. While I can't really give a strong feeling towards whether or not I think the movie will suck or rock (since you can't really judge it on the few minutes we've all seen), I kind of cringe a little at the acting that we've seen, especially between Anakin and Padme. It seems a little wooden, fake if you will. I hope that when we finally see the romance blossom in its entirety, that we truly see their relationship develop. But right now, things seem a bit forced. Just the way Portman says 'Ani, my have you grown'... It just felt fake. She's a better actress than that!! I think Ewan will really rock, and while I think Hayden will be competent as Anakin, I think it is Ewan who will truly carry this film. I think Hayden seems a bit more stronger when he's playing the more angst ridden Anakin. Nevertheless, we all shall know a lot more once May 16th rolls around. Till then, lets keep our fingers crossed and hope that this film will stand up along side Episode's IV, V, & VI, and make the Phantom Menace become more of a distant memory. Peace!
-
Same with The Beach, Leo does have a huge appeal for young ladies but his choice in projects is rather mixed. The Beach and Man in the Iron Mask were adventure flicks if you want to call them that, but not epic love stories like Titanic was, hense no box office champions. Liked the attempt though.

Face facts Basher, Jaws set in motion the entire event movie genre. It started the trend of movies being described in one scentence, 'it's jaws in space, it's top-gun with cars etc etc' upon which people like bruckeimer and simpson have built entire careers. It's theme music is probably the most recognisible in the world. That movie has had a greater impact than Star Wars, quite apart from the fact that it sent Spielberg on his Lucas grosses annihilating way.
As for influencing film makers. Erm, 2 worlds for you pal. Citizen Kane. The film which was a great influence to Scorcese, Speilberg, Coppola, De Parma and Lucas himself. Name the legion of directors Star Wars has influenced whose cultural impact stands up to the works of the above.
You are paranoid about box office takings. Quite simply no-one but you is worried about all the films you mention being faked. You fail to explain why all other films bar TPM are faked and what would be the gain. Reuters, New York Post and others all have reported on the HP figures and yet neglected to mention fraud. As for the Yahoo review, ever considered that the trickery quote has something to do with HP being about magic, the same goes for critics being less than 'spellbound'?
If you can give 1 reason why all the other films you mention are faked and yet TPM is not then I am sure everyone would be glad to hear it.
So try again on the 'comprehensive' destruction of my point of view.
And I am still waiting to find out just how the simplistic depiction of good and evil in Star Wars can be described as profound? Or are you looking it up in a dictionary first? -
Ol' fish-face is definately in the trailer - check him out, in robes, when the princess first hooks up with the gang again. Couldn't someone hack him to bits and use him as chum?
The trailer is terrific - really, really great. I'm sure the movie'll burn as well. And quit bitching about the "wooden delivery;" it's appropriate for who the character REALLY is. -
What the hell is up with the outfit that Amidala is wearing in Anakin's tantrum scene. So damn ugly, unflattering and just unamidala! Also for people who complain about the acting in the clips. First of all they're just clips, there isn't enough context to judge them by. Second, I think you're idealizing the orignal trilogy way too much, I mean do you remember Mark Hamill's acting. While I agree that TPM was a complete disappointment in almost every respect, The original trilogy didn't exactly have prize winning acting and dialogue.

I did and it was pure hell, i saw the same people come back 4 times to see teh movie. You also have to take into account that these movies open on more and more screens each time. If you want to go toe to toe with someone then come get some big guy. I'll be waiting here for you.

Two points, 1)the acting in the trailer is MUCH better in the theater(many little nuances are lost in Quicktime, even at the large setting)>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>2)Episode I wasn't Star Wars?, Episod II doesn't seem like Star Wars? Let see, who wrote and direted Star Wars ...hmmmm George Lucas. Let see who wrote and directed The Phantom Menance and The Attack of the Clones?....HOLY CRAP GEORGE LUCAS! Basically, Star Wars IV-VII universe is set during a time of Oppression and War and following rebels who are hiding out in "wilderness" of Space. These are definitely based more Urban areas. And if it isn't enough, Lucas filled it with facinating creatures, actions scenes, subduded acting and hokey dialoug. Like Harrison Ford once said, "It's like Shakespear, George, you can read it but you can't SAY it"

Ok, BasherKillsMmites and Possibly you guys must be right ...

I mean, with absolutely NOTHING to back up your opinion on the origin of the word "blockbuster" and the undoubted wisdom of your MANY years to go on, why, what could I be thinking??? ______ Quote: "Also to the geezer who looked up blockbuster in a dictionary, I am 100% certain that a CBS presenter or a news reporter coined this phrase as a movie attribute for Star Wars. When I track down the facts i'll let you know." ______ A) Your right, compared to most of you guys here at the TB, I must be a Geezer. I ACTUALLY saw Star Wars in a MOVIE THEATRE when it first came out! ______ B) 100% certain about CBS presenter coining about Star Wars, eh? Do you really and honestly think that there were no movies in the 50's and 60's that deserved the term blockbuster? This is too silly to contemplate! ______ C) You'll let me know when you track down the facts. OK, right, uh huh. Just after OJ finds the 'real killers.' ______ If your interested, here's my source:
http://www.uselessknowledge.com/word/blockbuster.shtml ______ And for those who can't figure why I care so much, well suffice it too say that I find ignorance such as BasherEatsGgrapes to be appalling. 'nuff said. -
I'll say it lends credibility to your contention. However, only two of them support you and they only repeat your assertion, so I'm not sure what kind of "proof" that is. The third says the term "Summer Blockbuster" was coined after Star Wars came out and not BECAUSE of SW. ______ Ah well, we'll have to agree to disagree. My source confirms what I already knew, "blockbuster" was coined during WWII. That is, a bomb with CONSIDERABLE explosive force (not an A-bomb). The idea that the word was "reinvented" to mean a film that had long lines that stretched around the block (thus "busting" it) is ludicrous. ______ It means a film that has the explosive force to knock competition out of the water and make a lot of money in the process. _______ And Possibly, sorry if the flames singed you, I was aiming for Basher. You have always posted reasonably and I guess I deserve your chastisement.

Hey, I don't really give a shit, leave me out of it. But Star Wars invented the _verb_ to blockbust. See http://www.scrawly.net/journalism/skywalker.html

You know, I'm starting to get the feeling that this site is nothing more than a pathetic attempt of a geek to recapture his childhood (was it really that good the first time around?) If anything, this preview should make you give up hope of ever recapturing the "fun" that was Star Wars. It was painful to watch. Come on, this is as corny as it gets.

Has anyone else noticed that at the begining of the trailer Anakin is standing in the exact same position he use to stand on the bridge of the Star Destroyer as Darth Vader in ESB?

________ The Empire Strikes Schlock. ________
Dear Word Detective: My son (age 6) and I were discussing where the word "blockbuster" came from. I told him that I thought it was when the movie industry had a movie that was a smash, a great many people would gather at the movie houses and would crowd the sidewalks and maybe encompass an entire "block" around the theater. Would you please help us with this? -- Louis Inderbitzen, via the internet.
__________ Your theory about "blockbuster" does make a certain amount of sense, since the term is almost always used today to describe a motion picture (or, less frequently, a novel or play) that becomes a "hot ticket." And movie fans certainly do line up around the block (or worse, camp out on the sidewalk for days) in search of tickets to such "blockbusters" as the new "Star Wars" film that opened recently. (And no, I have no plans to see it, though I would sit through it for a reasonable fee, say, $10 grand in small bills. In advance. Plus popcorn.)
The actual origin of "blockbuster," however, is a bit grimmer than just another lame Hollywood schlockfest. The term arose during World War II as Royal Air Force slang for an extremely large (as much as 8000 pounds) type of bomb, so powerful that it was capable of destroying an entire city block of buildings. After the war ended, "blockbuster" was appropriated by the advertising industry in the 1950s, who added it to their arsenal of superlatives alongside "astounding," "incredible" and "revolutionary."
