BLADE 2 promo art and news!

Published at:  Nov 13, 2001 6:44:45 AM CST

Harry here, I've had a good friend see a bunch of this, and I've talked with Guillermo Del Toro about it thus far. He seems extremely happy with the film thus far. My friend that checked stuff out has becoming a raving lunatic about the movie. So much coolness, so very soon, yet how come it feels like an eternity till we see it? Oh well, here ya go with Reinhardt's report...

Harry,

I happen to be in a position to be quite knowledgable about BLADE 2. There has been much talk about the various post colon titles, but now there is discussion to just leave it at BLADE 2.

As I have had the opportunity to see various segments of this film, I can tell you this, Ron Perlman's character (which I've named myself after) just completely rules the film. He is Reinhardt (liked him so much I named myself for him) and he is a member of the Bloodpack. The vampires specially trained to take out BLADE, but who must work with him to defeat the Reapers.

What are the Reapers? I know this much, after you see them, you will never be able to forget them.

I was mildly into the original BLADE, I thought the opening sequence was awesome beyond words, but felt that it never really lived up to that for the rest of the film. There was no real compelling narrative for me to care about. That is all changed here.

This has a strong female character that doesn't feel like wallpaper. It has badasses that kick as much or more ass than BLADE and what is happening in their world is just amazing to watch.

The production design has been exquisite in everything I've seen. Very Mignola. Guillermo Del Toro seemed to have a lot of fun on this one. Currently a trailer is being readied as is a poster, though I haven't seen either yet. Yet. When I do mon capitan, you will be the first to know.

Don't expect to see this poster in theaters anytime soon...

    by jimmy_009

...first off it looks like a fake. Second, even if it isn't, there's no way they'll put a slogan like that out after recent world events. If they really wanted to commit Box Office suicide, they'd just as well just cast Carrot Top as the main villan.

    The Return of Blade

    by rogman

The problem I had with the original film, (Xcluding the dodgiest of dodgy CGI) was that the vampires were just plain not-scary! They were just cannon-fodder for Blade. And they could walk around in daylight with factor 30 on - that's just plain ridiculous. Where's the gothic horror in that? Mignola rules and he understands how to do gothic, so I'm optimistic for the design of the film. But it seems like, because vampires appear 2 B so abundent, again - they need 2 have super-vampires 4 them 2 B @ all frightening. What R the Reapers? Super-duper vampires? Yawn...By the way, what's with the Rivendell comments? As far as I can download, the poster is black with splatters of blood and a spikey metal lettering. No Tolkienesque references. Have I not seen the whole image?

    Blade 2 Poster Art

    by davefx

This IS NOT the official art for Blade 2. This piece was designed for our website (FactoryX) since we are the licensee that produces the high-end collectibles from the two Balde folms. "WE" designed that, since New Line has NO art avaialble at this time!

    by rabid_republican

I admit I had more than a few doubts about a Blade sequel, but if the spy's assessment of this film being "very Mignola" is on the money, then by all means, sell me a ticket. Mike Mignola and horror motifs go together like bacon and eggs. Count me in.

    Looks like B-movie art

    by 2gold

Thank god that's not the real deal or I'd be laughing my rear off. It looks like something a porn movie would have on the cover. I'm still interested in seeing this film and it looks like 2002 will make up for the lackluster year 2001 was with "X-Men 2" starting production (Christmas 2002 or Summer 2003 with Matrix 2) "Blade 2" in movies, "Spiderman", "Jason X" (ooo chesse), and "XXX". If only that danged "SW2" crap wasn't in the line-up, it'd be prefect.

There hasn't been a good Vampire movie since "From Dusk Till

    by uncle jay

To make another 'Blade' film, is just pure stupidity. Sure, "Blade" was a cool flick, but not cool enuff for a fuckin' sequel?! Even the "From Dusk Till Dawn" sequels blew ass! Stick to orignality people. "From Dusk Till Dawn" was original, "Near Dark" was original, "Salem's Lot" was original. Or could there be no one in Hollywood left with originality!! Oh and P.S. "Buffy Sucks"!

  • Okay, so I may be name dropping a wee bit but I thought it was an interesting experience. There we were, my brother and I. Two Irishmen living it up at a Fatboy Slim concert in Prague. Twisted out of our minds on Irish Whiskey and bottles of Heineken. The venue was cool, Prumyslovy Palace in the heart of the Bohemian capital of the world. What a beautiful city. Fatboy Slim was in full swing and I had just come back to the bar after a frenzied bout of alcohol induced shenanigans on the dance floor. It was time to leave. My brother Donal reminded me so. Just as I was stepping outside my brother stopped me. "Look over there" he said, I gazed intently to where he was gesturing through bleary eyes and sure enough there he was. Wesley Snipes. WESLEY F**KING SNIPES. Now I always thought that I'd always play it cool if ever there was the highly unlikely possibility of me bumping into someone really famous. I always rehearsed saying things like "How's it goin'? I admire your work. The name's so and so." I even knew that Blade2 was filming at the time, so I wasn't entirely surprised. The very least I was expecting would be a cordoned off street or something. But this in fact was the man himself and I was completely starstruck. He was dressed in a dark coat with a dark hat and shades. His eyes were visible through them. The confirmation was a series of tattoos going up the back of his neck. Flip to the back of a Blade soundtrack cd and you'll know what I mean. I kept pointing him out to people beside me, even to a hippy with long hair who was passing me a joint at the time. My brother decided to say hello to him and did so. He said everything that I had rehearsed and I looked on in disbelief. Okay, but now you may be thinking that I'm completely psycho material. But I'm not really. I had about five or six whiskeys in me with as many bottles of Heineken. We had been talking to a local Czech who had thoughts of Socialist attitudes and hated every country around him. One fact we never realised at the time is that these guys can't take their drink. We lost him after the third round. Donal is introduced, Wesley guesses he's either Scottish or Irish. Not a bad guess. He's knows something of the world. He gets my brothers name wrong by calling him Donald. It was excusable. We discovered early on our holiday that it's an American thing. There were quite a lot in Prague at he time. We were chatting to An American Marine in a pub a few nights earlier about his job. He was on Gate duty at the Embassy. Extremely Patriotic as you might imagine. The Embassy building reminds you of all those cold war settings you see in movies. Very Impressive. So Wesley said his nice to meet you's and smiled. My brother and I then departed and I cusred Donal by calling him a b****rd. I spent the next day going "Oh I've should have said this or I should have said that. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to seeing Blade 2 when it comes out. He's a little shorter than I expected. Blade V Darth Maul anyone?

That's funny, seeing Wesley Snipes at a Fatboy Slim show. I was at his show in Toronto while X-Men was filming and Ray Park was at it. He was acting like such a wanker. Slainte RowanM.

Thus far this film sounds abysmal thus far. The first film was much like Harry and this spy - repetitive (I names myself after him because I liked him so much I named my self after him). What is more silly than exploding vampires? 40 exploding vampires. What tripe.

Blade is not a good comic movie

    by andre nickatina

Or at least not a good comic adaption. 70's, pimp jacket, comic book Blade was the best. This might as well not have been Blade. The character was all unemotional and crap... nothing like the comics. I guess they just wanted to get fanboys interested. It sucks.

Andre Nickatina, kid, tell me where ya sister lives.

Ten cool vampire flicks that aren't Salem's Lot or Blade

    by ambush bug

Near Dark, Vampire's Kiss, Nadja, Chronos, Ravenous (not exactly vampires, but they drink blood for power), Blood & Donuts, Martin, The Addiction, Kolchak The Night Stalker, and Vamp (too cool). Some are cheesy, some are scary, some are cool. All of them - fun vampire flicks.

Another cool vampire movie worth checking out ...

    by hktelemacher

is Roman Polanski's "The Fearless Vampire Killers". It's a strange little flick, sort of a winking ode to Hammer, that has really grown on me. Not for all tastes, but you can catch it on Turner Classic Movies every now and then - so you can see it in widescreen. I hope Blade 2 is better than the first - I read that Del Toro was studying samurai movies in pre-production, and that gave me hope. I'm still not sure about Del Toro's abilities, and I hope he can make something darker.

'vamp' = da shit! but that tobe hooper made-for-TV '

    by tommy5tone

remake it as a four-hour HBO miniseries with billy crudup as ben mears, kate hudson as sue norton, that haley joel kid as mark petrie, ben kingsley as straker and willem dafoe as barlow. THAT'S a muthafunkin' bloodsucker epic for ya! 'vamp' is supercool, as is 'innocent blood', which was given the unfortunate new title 'a french vampire in america' down under. can you believe that shit? anyhoo, 'blade 2: bloodhunt' (official title...or it should be) looks like it will rock, and put wesley's ass back on top...where it belongs, dag nab it!

Another new Vampire film with 'Bloodlust' as the subtitl

    by monkey_king

Wasn't the new Vampire Hunter D9which was friggin' incredible) called Bloodlust? Now another film in the same genre uses the same, only months later? I'd prefer they went back to the original subtitle Bloodhunt to differentiate the two films and avoid any legal talk.

The most appropriate realization of a comic

    by soulreaver

    was "Blade" thus far!!

OK, maybe there is Batman as well, but I don't understand, why some of you discuss "Blade" as if it is an important film in the history of film-making...

When I first saw the trailer for "Blade", I thought: "Hell, I gotta see this movie!!!"

I did it, and I did again, time after time! I still love to watch this cool piece of bloodbath, but I'm also aware, that it's nothing more than a fun film.

Of course it had some very interesting elements, rather expressionistic shots and stuff like this, but nevertheless this is merely fun. Cool fun.

I wanna see the second movie as well, because "Blade" as a character in a movie is too large for just one movie. I'm not yet tired to see this guy fumblin' with his sword, and I guess I'm not alone.

    Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter!

    by thehound

    Now, that's a vampire movie!

"Unique blend of horror and swashbuckler genres follows sword-wielding stranger as he stalks new breed of vampire across European countryside. Artsy, exciting, almost intoxicatingly atmospheric chiller has developed considerable following; one of the best (and least typical) Hammer productions. Released in Britain as simply KRONOS." - Maltin

If you haven't already, go get it!
