SCOOBY DOO Trailer OnLine!

Published at:  Nov 10, 2001 3:43:14 PM CST

Harry here. Ya know what I hate, I hate knowing how much SCOOBY DOO is going to suck... But at the same time watching the perfect first teaser that will sucker millions. If this trailer were indicative of the cleverness that was in the film, I'd be hopeful, but I've read the script... that cleverness wasn't there. Notice the complete absence of Freddie Lillard and even Matt Prinze Jr. This trailer almost got me giddy for about 5 seconds after it was over, but I had to bring myself back to reality. Now here's the question. Why does the Moviefone website say that SCOOBY DOO is rated R? Maybe Scooby and Buffy have a scene that... wasn't in the script? Keep your fingers crossed. And here the trailer is in Quicktime!!! or click below for crappy dappy Real Video...

I didn't see this on your sites yet so I thought I'd beacon this out if you guys didn't already know...

    by smeg for brains

It was NOT clever. As said before, it was a rip off of the already unclever Austin Powers 2 preview, which in turn was a rip off of the UHF trailer, which was clever, because it came out right at the time that Last Crusade was also on the horizon, and actually was convincing, unlike the AP2 trailer. What person that actually knew anything about Star Wars would think that a trailer showing what appeared to be a destroyed death star, really was a Star Wars trailer? Did they forget that the new Star Wars movie was a PREQUEL, and that Vader would be a CHILD? Scooby Doo (the CG dog) looks AWFUL. there is no way I would look at that and think it was real until it talked. It looks fake. It moves fake. It will suck drastically.

    by cowblaster

The fact that this movie will actually draw in a crowd! It'll pull in the audience of people who watch things like Charlie's Angels, or ViP because they're "SUPPOSED to be stupid." I can understand if a movie is supposed to be fun, or supposed to be rediculous. But, movies that are meant to be dumb just shouldn't have an audience, and yet they do. That's why Scooby Doo will not only make money, but they'll make a sequel to it as well. My evidence? Well, I actually met a guy who didn't like X-Men because, get this, IT HAD A STORY! That's right, he thinks movies are better off if they're just straight action or comedy or whatever, so long as they don't require any thought. God, PEOPLE SUCK! They're the very reason why movies like Scooby Doo get made and end up being a success (money-wise). Wake up, America! You don't have to give shit like this a market!

Probably the worst trailer of the year is released 1 day after the best trailer of the year. What good marketing that is. Who will remember this when you have an asskicking trailer released yesterday. 2002 is for one film only, and that features better effects than this one. Lucas is Back and this time he's angry! Bring on May 2002.

Come on, everybody! You came in here expecting too much from this piece of crap. This movie suck simply because 1) Matthew Lillard and his bitch Freddy Prinze, Jr. are in this, 2) the script totally sucked so bad, I wouldn't wipe my ass with it ,and 3) this was made for people with I.Q.s less than their shoe size (i.e.- the mainstream audiences). So let's just put this dead horse in the ground and move on.

As I was saying before I accidentally posted, great point you make. I can't believe your friend actually believes this. He needs a serious 24 hour screening of Kubrick films to bring him to his senses. Maybe this film won't suck as bad as we all think it will, but I doubt it. WB has come out with a lot of shit the past few years(except for THE MATRIX and that's due more to Joel Silver than to WB). I truly don't think they care about art anymore. AOL taking over them was the worst thing to happen to Hollywood since Jon Peters. I'll be so happy when this film tanks. Maybe the AOL boys should take a look at LOTR and Episode II to see how real blockbusters are made. As for a new BATMAN film, I'd love to see it if it's done right. Go after Alex Proyas to direct and get Paul Dini to write the script and there you have it. Shouldn't be that hard, WB.

    by mr chuff

...They are positively PLAYING on the fact that people want a new, decent Batman film. I hate to sound like a wanky fanboy but this sucks cock...badly. The trailer is dung. Not even worth talking about...Scooby Doo? Who gives a flying cunt-sprouting? No one...But I can't see how WB can sit there and fucking churn this shit out expecting people to want to see it. The worst thing about it thought is that we're ALL talking about it..just what they wanted. But MAYBE they'll get the hint that some people want them to stop sucking each other's cocks and make a decent bat flick too.

Star Wars 2 will kick the shit out of this film

    by lobanhaki

The reason why crap like this is made is that people unfortunately think the continued success of certain films actually indicates the mood of the general public.

The truth is different. If you get an average of between thirty or forty people in each showing at on a total of four thousand screens (which I figured out to be about a thousand dollars of revenue for each screen per week), at todays ticket prices, then you can get about 20 million in grosses in a week. That means, with a bunch of less than half-filled theatres, you can get your movie a success on the scale of your average weekend movie success in a single week. That means that with only 4 million people attending the movie, out of almost 300 million, a movie can have a successful weekend. It also means, that with only 20 million tickets sold by this arrangement, a film can pass the 100 million dollar gross amount. Let's suppose, unrealistically, that none of those ticket sales are repeats. That is, 20 million people go to see that movie over the period of it's release. Do you realize that even then, it would only require a little more than one out of every fifteen people in this country to attend? For me this startling realization motivated me to come to this conclusion: First of all, audiences can be wildly varied in their composition. Second of all, that composition can very easily be composed of people whose intelligence isn't that high. There is no need to slander the general audience, because the presence of that audience is not necessary to the success of the dumb films out there. Third, this means that the current cinematic mix of movies, while not entirely an unjustified mix, may very well be the result of a minority of the audience's tastes. The implications? That the potential pool of movies that can be successful is far greater than some would claim. That today's mix of movies may very well be the result of Hollywood's alienation of a vast majority of the audience, for the dependable Box office of a small minority of the American audience. This means that for those people who are willing to take the risks, and those audiences willing to go and search out good material, there is quite possibly a world of opportunities for changing our media environment. There is no need to give up on good filmmaking on account of the success of films that constantly appeal to a minority of the audience.

Why does everyone ASSUME Episode II will be good?

    by funmazer

Hi there! I haven't posted in quite a long while, but I feel I must comment on this Episode II stuff. I haven't seen the trailer, but I am still convinced it will not be good. Some of you mentioned how the last 2 Batman movies sucked. Well, that's because Batman Forever sucked, people went anyway, so they didn't try to make Batman & Robin any better. Unless I hear UNANIMOUS praise for EPII I will be doing more important things that weekend, like re-arranging my sock drawer. Just like The Matrix showed up Star Wars back in 1999, I think "LOTR" could very well do it this year. If EP II's script is so much better, why do they need reshoots? As for Scooby-Doo, I always pictured an older cast, with Julia Roberts as Daphne and Sandra Bullock ad Velma (she would been good). BUT that would cost mega-bucks. Besides, I *guess* it's better to pander to an audience that doesn't even REMEMBER when the show was originally on! I think the year-end holiday movie season will, more than ever, be the place for actual GOOD movies. Sigh.

Regarding Episode 2 for Funmazer *SPOILERS*

    by miss aura

The reshoots which they are doing are between Amidala and Anakin because George Lucas didnt think that the Chemistry looked that good between them. I can understand after Episode 1 that you are cautious of Episode 2 being a good film. But trust me, having read the script and seen the trailer which just proved to me that the script is legitimate, Episode 2 is going to knock the doubt out of most (I wouldve said all, but there are people who just love to hate starwars, it happens with every film franchise) people. Its more mature and more like a Star Wars film. ****SPOILER**** How could anyone not be amazed by a fight between 200 jedi and clones while a beast like the rancor in ROTJ is on the loose **SPOILER ENDS*** It will be fantastic and yes, if LOTR was coming out next year I would say it would give Episode 2 a fair run for its money. But the only blockbuster which comes out around Episode 2 is SPIDERMAN and after seeing the costume for the Green Goblin, it is very hard to see Spiderman beating BATTLEFIELD EARTH. That costume is by far the funniest thing I have seen this year by a long mile. And I thank Sam Raimi or whoever designed it, for the days of laughter when I glanced upon the pictures. Sadness also because SPIDERMAN could have been good, but it has no hope in hell now.

But the Harry is so devoted to destroying this movie I'm constantly left in a state of complete 'duh'. Harry, you like the TV show, but hate the prospect of a film? I'm the other way around. And I know that even when you've finally seen this film, you're going to tell yourself that it still sucked. You're going to tell everyone here that you thought it sucked, but they may like it so go see it anyway. That day is soon arriving... and I await with baited breath!

    Best Scooby movie idea ever

    by darth tj mackey

I saw it in one of these discussions but cannot remember who the author was...basically Scooby is a group hallucination who "commands" the gang to commit these horrible crimes, which they have no memory of and thus go about trying to "solve" after the fact. Sort of in between the Son of Sam and "Blair Witch 2", but I can also see a "Brady Bunch Movie" type of setting where everybody who comes into contact with the gang is completely freaked out by them (and their imaginary dog!). Lots of dark-humored potential.

I would venture to guess that perhaps five percent of the people who have posted negatively have read the script to this film (and we all know that is a very generous estimation). But every one of you is willing to write this thing off. As if you have some moral right to it? Where do you get off. You guys are like the Washington DC media, or Jim Rome fans: you'll trash anything, just for attention. Put a pencil in any one of your hands and we'd get a truly bad script.
