ATTACK OF THE CLONES Trailer On-Line!!!
Hey folks, Harry here... Prior to this trailer, my excitement level for Episode II was fairly in check. This weekend I finally sat down to watch the Episode 1 dvd, and while I still enjoy that film, I really do agree with those that feel that it doesn't feel to terribly much like Star Wars. This trailer does. I'm not talking about the heavy breathing over the whole thing, instead, I'm referring to the colors and the shots. Coruscant is no longer lit the way it was in the first film. That night shot of Obi Wan sliding down whatever that was... the night shot of Jango Fett flying around... dear god how cool was that? The complete darkness saber battle, where we have only the blades to illuminate the faces of the combatants. The stormy OCTOPUSSY set. Just that simple shot of R2... Miles difference in terms of the composition there. The Tatooine shot, much better. Notice everything in this trailer is dramatic lighting as opposed to being over lit. However... This is only a trailer. And a short one at that. And if there is one thing that Lucasfilm knows how to do better than anything, it's how to cut a trailer. I'm very curious to see how things progress from here. More than anything I wanted and needed to see a perceived tonal shift.... This seems to be presenting that. Disney often times presents a darker tone for their animated projects, prior to showing the happy happy nutrasweety cotton candy hell of a Rosie O'Donnell ape... Is this the same tactic, or did King George really understand what so many were griping about, OR was it always his intention to hook young uns with happyness in the first film, only to turn darker and darker in the next two. That's the same tactic that J.K. Rowling has been doing with her Harry Potter novels. Well... we'll see. Personally I'm dying to see the next trailer!!!
Hey folks, Harry here... I'll be right back with my thoughts and some images from the trailer... for now, here ya go.
Hey Harry,
Don't know how long it will be there. Good quality from a source, not a theater bootleg!
-Oz Then about thirty minutes later this one came in
Hey Harry,
Be the first to check out the Star Wars Episode 2 teaser trailer! That’s right, the new one! Take a look at the MPEG version here:

almost 1 am, while i should be sleeping, here i am downloading the trailer for the second piece of crap George Lucas has conjured up:)
-
I like some of those shots, but as a teaser, I'm already getting tired of it. Isn't some better trailer for it going to be on Harry Potter? Either way, it looks good, but I'm not pumped up to see it like I am for some other movies coming out within the next year or so.
-
It's so creepy with the music and stuff. I love it.
-
It does seem that there are certain technological similarities among some of the later Imperial designs and that of THE IRON GIANT. When I here about Clones attacking it conjures up images of great human armies. Armies that have been built on a single genetic blue print. But before such steps are taken in the human sphere, mechanical and industrial prototypes would be constructed. THE IRON GIANT could be such a model. Consider if the battles between the Rebels and the Empire did take place along time ago in a galaxy far far way, it would make since that THE IRON GIANT would just now be arriving in our neck of the woods after transversing so much distance and time to come from there to here. Lucky for us Hogarth did not serve the darkside.

at fucking last i can sleep now i have this

Looks alright, but nowhere near as good as the trailer for "Stuart Little 2". Oh wait, THAT trailer was a piece of shit also.

Could Star Wars be getting badass again? I had sadly written off this franchise after Ep. 1: George Lucas's Jedi Babies, not to mention his digital rapes of the original trilogy. Now I'm thinking Ep. 2 has promise. An encouraging teaser.
-
one subject i haven't seen anybody address, how did the footage in the trailer look, compared to what we're used to with standard 35mm film? even though i realize these screen grabs may not be the best of quality, they seem to have this "blurry video" quality about them that makes me wonder if the entire film does in fact look like it was shot on video and not film.
-
stay cool. JUST KIDDING! Seriously now the colors in the teaser kick some major ass.
-
its 4:37 am, im tired like shit right now, and now i have to download the trailer, blah, george lucas has me by the balls.
got to love the shot of Yoda! -
Good lord, this is the BEST year of movies ever. Lord of the Rings, Spiderman...........AND STAR WARS!!
Fucking eh!! -
has anyone noticed that the face expression of anikan at the beginning of this trailer look very much alike Lukes face expressions....i dont know if im the only one but hell....its like seeing a Skywalker !!
Im probably to damn excited so im seeing things !!
who agrees with me?? -
What the fuck is Harry talking about. ANH does not have DRAMATIC lighting. Neither did episode 1....PERIOD. Lucas has always said the first film will be a fun adventure and episode 2 gets dark, while Episode 3 will be the DARKEST SW of them all. Do you hear that guys....THE DARKEST OF THEM ALL. And of course TPM doesn't feel SWsy....It takes place in a different time in the galaxy. Good guys are in charge...evil in hiding. Compare to the OT: Overwhelming Evil in charge with good "underdogs" trying to kick some ass. George didn't begin the SW with the OT FORMULA for a reason: STORYTELLING. You must have an A to get to B, C, D, etc...Get your heads out of your asses, fellow geeks (and that includes you HEAD GEEK, the guy who frothed in the mouth about the Ep1 script a year before it came out, and than praised unabashedly the film on his first viewing....Jar Jar..."Mesa Loved him"...Remember Harry....I do!). What happened Harry...I thought you said LOVE the ART, not the artist (of course I'm refering to the BANISHMENT at from the Ranch).
-
but what the hell is that flying thing about 30secs in? El Chupacabra? It looks ridiculous...
-
...maybe the LOTR trailer does look a better after all....and yes.....to say, "...correct your spelling and had it back..." is very silly, and hmmm..... even my whip-tash is all flacid tonight.....

finally saw the trailer today before the brilliant Monsters, Inc
by a goonie
man, i love Monsters, Inc. but that's beside the point. i really enjoyed the teaser today. it's short as hell, but i like the fact that it's just IMAGES. almost like photographs. the photography looks (of course) very beautiful and some of those shots, esp. the one of Obi-Wan in that weird blue light thing where he's just sorta floating there. yeah, that looked great. but most amazing of all for me, was CGI Yoda. holy shit, did that look amazing! especially considering that in that other trailer i saw today, the E.T. Special Edition one, the CGI E.T. looked HORRIBLE!!!!! so bad! a complete piece of misplaced crap! i just watched E.T. (a favourite movie of mine) about a week ago, and was amazed to see how good an actor that animatronic puppet was. he truly gives a performance in that movie. he lives and breates and ACTS. it's an incredible thing to behold. but E.T. as CGI is just... poor. and completely unnecessary. but what i'm saying is that Yoda, another beloved creature we all know as a puppet, looked incredible as CGI. and of course, it was great to see the logo... because the title "Attack of the Clones" kicks ass! i just like to point out that i actually LOVE the title. i'd say it's my favourite of the five so far, after The Empire Strikes Back, of course.
-
This looked pretty good. Way to short by the way. I'm fairly positive that this movie is going to be an improvement over TPM but still...i hope it's going to be a VERY good movie instead of "just ok".
-
I don't understand it....there doesn't seem to be much enthusisasm for this trailer. I thought it was pretty cool, and it certainly looks better than TPM. Of course, its just a trailer, and it didnt blow me away like the LOTR trailers, but I thought it was really promising, and this is from someone who hated TPM.

Although short, this teaser wetted my appetite. I'll still see LOTR, but AOTC is going to be the real deal. BTW if you look closely Count Dooku's lightsaber blade is NOT curved. The handle must be, but not the blade.

Who the fuck died and made you the Jesus Christ of film critique? I thought this talkback already had one? Get your head out of Lucas's lap so you can see the truth. George Lucas can make a bad film and he did. It is my opinion, which is shared by billions, the Phantom Menace sucked. It was eye candy without good storytelling. The most highly anticipated movie of all time was MEDIOCRE at best. Lucas had it all right there in front of him and he dropped the ball. If I had the chance I would tell Lucas simply because I appreciate his work. The original Star Wars trilogy will ALWAYS stand alone. He has put himself in a position that artist's can only dream of when dealing with a studio. He has the opportunity to get it right every time without some suit fucking up his vision and for me as an artist to see him poorly use that opportunity is DICK CRUSHED IN DOOR PAINFUL in my opinion. IT'S STAR WARS. Which studio will not suck his dick and bend to his will? NONE.
-
Remember when Star Wars first came out it had a similar "innocence" to it much like TPM. A boy wanting adventure and the audience going with him on his adventure, completely unaware of what he would face. When ESB came out it was deep. In fact a little too deep for many. I remember seeing the ESB in the theater when I was young back in the 80s. I didn't like it because I couldn't understand any of it (although the AT-AT battle in the beginning is one of my all-time favorite battle sequences). Today I can understand the movie and it has become one of my favorites. :) I think AOTC will be extremely close in depth and scope to ESB. Plus I think the way Lucas is sort of playing off the words like "Attack of" and "Strikes Back" is sort of cool actually. It

The trailer rocks.
Everything looks like it's in its place, the visuals the sound, the costumes, the sets, the special effects, the amazing Fett uniform. What is there to say but Lucas my man, you're on to a winner there.
I'm a fan of the original trilogy and even though episode 1 did bite the big one, it still had its moments here and there. (the dual lightsabre battle of course) Hopefully this film is going to rock.
I've also noticed an interesting thing about the Star Wars saga. Episode 4 had one main climactic narrative; luke destroying the Deathstar.
Episode 5 had two narratives, Luke's battle with Darth Vadar, and Leia chasing frozen Han.
Episode 6 had three; Ewok battle against the Sheild generator crew, Luke and Darth destroying the Emperor, and Lando and wedge destroying the death star.
Episode 1 had four narratives. Obi-wan and Qui-gon fighting the coolest charcter in the whole fucking film, Amidalla taking the Trade federation down, Jar jar's people fighting the battle droids, and Anakin destroying the control ship.
Perhaps Lucas has five narratives in mind in this film?
And after the plot mess of Episode 1, i'm wondering whether he should scale things down to the more individual stroylines and keep things focused on only a few narratives rather than trying to keep everyone entertained with a possible six narratives in episode 3.
I hope this pattern is co-incidental.
oh and one more thing...Could everyone in america STOP looking at the trailer, so as everyone in britain can have a chance to download it please. It took me an ice age to load up Reelbuff.com -

It will probably be on Film 2001 on Thursday night. -
Why does everyone get excited when they see a movie is gonna be dark. Oh the episode 2 trailer looks so dark its gonna be good. Or ESB was the best cause it was dark. The Lord of the Rings trailer looks so dark it must be good. You make me sad.

For you who think the blurriness is a high definition video artifact, permit me to slap you upside the head. VHS video is blurry and desaturated, because it is one of the worst recording mediums on the market. High Definition video is about fifteen times sharper than that, and five times sharper than DVD. You would likely think the source footage was too sharp, not that it was too blurry.
Additionally: about that dramatic lighting. The trick to doing dramatic lighting in a Star Wars film, is the ever-present bluescreens. These things have to be lit bright enough so they won't have parts in shadow, which would interfere with the removal of the Bluescreen, and by extension the placement of whatever was supposed to replace it. The trick with HD video is that you are forced to avoid overexposing the shot. Film overexposes very well because it is analogue and doesn't go straight to utter whiteness when it hits that limit. HD, though does do that. However, HD is much more sensitive in terms of picking up underexposed detail than film, because CCD chips are a hundred times more sensitive than film on that count, and they maintain resolution much better. That means that Lucas can bring out the bluescreens in that lighting, and do more subtle work with it, because he doesn't have to blast the stage with light in order to get the bluescreen out of the shadows. -

You have to be kidding me. You're trying to judge the quality of the film xfer based off some shitty screen grabs taken from a bootleg? "May not be the best of quality?" Ya think? I knew there were gonna be some videophiles out there looking for reasons to hate 24p but sheesh....Anyway, I have seen it in the theater, and no, it doesn't look any different than regular film.

Could you freakin' loser fan boys please for once give George Lucas some damn credit and leave Phantom Menace alone?! It is almost as if you have never watched Star Wars before. Sure, everyone picks on Jar-Jar as stupid, but really, how cool was Chewie? Also, people pick on Jake Lloyd by saying his performance was subpar. Oh really? So, was Mark Hamill's performance Oscar worthy?
Give Lucas some credit, he knows what he is doing with the story. So what if it starts off kind of light. Just deal with it! It was a cool movie and it was a good way to kick things into gear. The Star Wars movies have always been more about adventure than sci-fi and the Phantom Menace provided tons of it!
You anti-Phantom Menace losers make me want to puke!!! -

I agree. I'm sick of "dark" being synonymous with intelligent or excellent. It doesn't stop at Talk Backers though. Anyone ever read an interview with someone who wrote a shitty script? Invariably they'll say that the director / producers messed up his script which was originally "much, darker." Also, how many morons have you heard about developing a "dark comedy" (Yeah, like Heartbreakers). Oh and let us not forget how master thespian Joseph (not Joey) Lawrence described his character in Urban Legend 2. "Its a very dark role." **** If this movie really is dark, won't it make the light sabers, muppets, and "I have a bad feeling about this" dialog just look out of place and jarring? Lets get some perspective here people.
-
I would just love it. If George Lucas Could just get pissed off at everyone so much. Everyone hated Howard the Duck, now....TPM gets skewerd, well thats his last draw. And now its personal, He is so pissed at his fans that he decided to fuck you all. And How is he going to do it? Well, at the end of AoTC, everyone dies! Except Jar-Jar. How hilarious would that be? I can hear the resonating screams of the old Audio-Visual club from High School. Hahahahahahahahaha

Just saw the happily snazzy quicktime version on the apple site, and damn those greedy bastards for requiring QT Pro for the large version!

I'm waiting for Lord of the Rings, a real mans film! Frodo ownz Joo!

Forget MPEG, get the QT5 Version.

30 bucks for Quicktime pro = bullshit first off. Then it STILL comes out like shit. Blocky and screwed up. Thanks George for cheesing us again.

SW1 was too happy and goofy. This will likely redeem itself. The more gothic monsters with sadistic instruments of torture the better.
Best of luck to all involved. When is it actually coming out ?? -

I got it to work on medium but large looks like shit. Maybe I need more memory. VERY excited about this episode! Still think its cheezy to have to shell out 30 bucks for fucked up shit thou. I thought all my quicktime probs would be solved by upgrading but I see no difference other than ol George gets more of every Star Wars fans money for basicly a prick tease.

First of all, registration keys work just fine, thank you. Ahhhh... piracy. Second of all, quicktime is looking better and better. Real Player, rest in shit!

I didn't hate Episode 1, but I didn't love it either. It was just sorta ok for me. This one looks more promising, but I remember thinking that Episode 1 would be the best movie of all time after seeing the trailer, and it was only mediocre. I agree with what the one poster said about how he hopes that Lucas doesn't just keep increasing the amount of storylines that have to be tied up at the end. If you saw the awesome, much lauded documentary on the Phantom Menace DVD, you know that Lucas was worried that he had gone too far by having to tie up four storylines at the end. I'm talking about that part where they watch the rough cut for the first time and at the end, Lucas has his head in his hands, totally stressed, and there is a dead silence in the theater. What sucks is how Ben Burtt was the voice of reason, yet Lucas and McCallum just kept explaining away the problems in the film by just saying 'Oh, thats how Star Wars is anyway.' So... hopefully he backed off a little and decided to focus on fewer characters. This trailer makes the film look a little sparse. Seems that the Republic and the Jedi are now realizing that there is a very ominous, hard to deal with threat to their existence. There is that feeling of dread in the trailer, but, like one TBer said, I hope it's not to get us excited, only to find out there are bunch of CGI muppets and a few lame dance numbers thrown together with atrocious dialogue. I just don't see how that could be the case, judging by the shots here. My major problem with the TPM was never Jar-Jar, it was Natalie Portman. HAL 9000 talks with more emotion than she does. Every time that she was on the screen it undermined the credibility of the story. She acted like someone was holding a gun to her head and forcing her to say the lines. Like she didn't want to be there. Anyway, did everyone notice that that ship coming out of the asteroid field and shooting like crazy is a Slave 1? Ever wonder why it's called the Slave 1? Might be something to that... Yoda looked awesome, nothing like that horrible CGI E.T. I was afraid they'd make Yoda an ants in his pants typical, never stops moving for a second, too shiny to be real, moves so fluidly he might as well be floating in a tank of water, type CGI character. Also, did anyone notice, maybe I was seeing things, but in that shot of those platforms over a stormy ocean, the water is not animated yet? It was the only thing that didn't look right.
-
Sorry, just said that to get some Lucasfilm person to read this. I'M PISSED AS HELL they're forcing us to upgrade to quicktime pro to get the large trailer. I've spend all sorts of cash on the VHS movies (multiple versions of all), posters and action figures, as well as the DVD a couple weeks ago. This is becoming extortion. THIS IS A CALL TO ARMS FOR ALL FANS. DO NOT SEE THE MOVIE OPENING WEEKEND. I will not be. I'll see it, but I'm waiting a week or two so that Lucas will not be getting his %100 opening gross profit from me. I URGE EVERYONE TO DO THE SAME. LUCAS SHOULD BE TAUGHT THAT HE CAN'T KEEP SCREWING US AND HAVE US COMING BACK FOR MORE.
-
Ok, I can live with the CG Yoda. Of course, it means that Yoda will look totally different in two out of six movies, unless we get a second special edition. What I am really wondering about is this awful CG ocean. I mean, this looks like it's straight out of toy story. I truly hope that this is an early shot that will be fixed later. They did a damn good job in TPM with creating CG water, I would hope that they haven't lost that ability. ;)

to all those that defend the phantom menace, like scaught above.
by captain katanga
there is a reason why it gets a lot of stick!!! Its not a particularly good film, and consequently it was a huge disappointment to a lot of people. Here are a few reasons why: 1) as a standalone science fiction film, it doesnt work. It lacks a strong narrative, and the climax is confusing. They even had to include a line where Amidala says "we must capture the viceroy...everything depends on it"...because otherwise there was no sense of urgency! People hardly knew who the fuck the viceroy was, let alone why they had to capture him! Its no excuse to say that the film is setting up characters, later films etc....before anything else it MUST act a drama in its own right.
2) It looks and feels different to the other films. Despite wanting it to be one act of a 6 act story, he still saw fit to totally change the design of the film. The spaceships look like they belong in flash gordon!
2) There was no real baddie, and hardly any sense of evil... in Star Wars Darth vader picks a guy up, crushes his neck, and throws him to the floor....and the whole audience is booing him from then on. Does Darth Maul actually do anything bad until the end of the film? He just looks bad! Again, its not enough to say that its setting up the later films... these are just fun movies, they should be about good versus evil.
3) The film was suddenly aimed at very young children, with Jar jar and his stepping in poo poo antics. The other films werent aimed this low, so why was it necessary to do so in this one?
4) Many of the computer generated scenes looked totally fake. The gungan battle looked like something out of toy story. A new hope didnt suffer from having to use real life locations...it made it more convincing.
5) Contemporary references: again, there was none of this in the first 3, and yet in this one Lucas has a 2 headed sports commentator "i dont care what universe youre from, thats gotta hurt!" and Jar Jar saying "Exsqueeze me!"
6) Dull characters who spout little more than plot exposition... where was the fun banter that was present in the first 3? Liam Neeson's character was soooo boring! The dialogue was great in the other films.
7) Midichlorians!! Lucas adds a concept that seems to totally change what the other films were about. He may try and justify it, and say he always had it in mind... but I think he's bullshitting. The force is no longer about believing in something, about faith...its DNA!
8) Apart from the podrace, Anakin does everything by mistake! WHY???
9) Its just too bloody colourful!!! I think this is one reason why people, myself included, think the dark look of the teaser is a step in the right direction: its moody, it looks more dramatic, and less childish.
I could go on! Even I dont think the phantom menace was a bad film, I think it was a lot of fun... but it isnt in the same league as the others, not by a long way. -
First it was TPM sucked -- but somebody out there must have bought 2+ million DVDs the first week... now it's "George is screwing us over and forcing us to buy QuickTime Pro.." Look, he's GIVING you the teaser for free. The MEDIUM size mov looks great. It will be shown on practically every TV channel in North America today. Set your VCR or TIVO and record it... free of charge. Anyone who doesn't want to see this movie -- don't go. It's pretty simple. Oh, by the way, the teaser is great BECAUSE it makes you want to see more. And we will see more. DS
-
Simply remarkable how much heat LucasFilm can generate with nothing more than a sloppy collection of 3-second shots, all tied together with a 24-year-old sound effect. Ugh.
-
My college professors were right. They sat accross the table from me in academic advisor sessions (back in 1991) and told me that film was becoming obselete. Video was the wave of the future. "Maybe for used car commercials..." I thought. "But not for feature FILMS!" Much like Kenobi, who thought he could train Annakin as well as Yoda could, "I was wrong". The quality and the depth of these Lucas"FILM" images easily surpasses a great deal of the works that are considered classics in the visual effects category - no suprise that many of the films that jump to mind at the mention of the visual effects category probably did their post-production at ILM studios somewhere outside San Francisco. Hat's off to Lucas for continuing to be vanguard of 'better movie magic through technology'. That is one accolade that none of you cynical, fickle fan-boys can take away from him. You know you all should really lighten up. I make this point in an attempt to HELP you, not to score points on you. Those of you who think you preside over some nebulous board of directors who know what is best are simply cheating yourselves out a good time. Remember? "Film" is supposed be entertaining.
-
I agree with most everything you say about TPM, and I may have some things to add (disclaimer: I enjoyed TPM, even laughed about Jar Jar once or twice and bought the DVD - it's an ok movie, but that's it). The awful editing is actually my main point of criticism. But about the contemporary references: Uhm... I know that most star Wars fans don't like to talk about ROTJ too much, but you don't remember the Ewok doing the "Tarzan scream" in ROTJ?? If that's not a contemporary reference, then I don't know what is. Let's face it, A New Hope and Empire were great, but things already started going downhill with ROTJ. Lucas seems to have lost a lot of his impetus after Empire. I just _hope_ he can regain it with AOTC. I think the teaser trailer as quite inconclusive on that issue. It only shows that there is going to be even more CG in AOTC. I don't have a problem with CG as such, my main problem is that in TPM, Lucas seems to have forgotten about everything else over the abundance of special effects.
-
but wasnt it Chewie that did it? Weirdly, the thought of it is actually making me laugh... at least it was a half decent joke!
-
You and your IRON GIANT fetish are always welcome among us. Now, if I could only download the trailer I'd be happy as a clam.
-
I think the Tarzan scream was pretty damn funny. It doesn't seem as bad as the references in TPM because the ones in TPM were just desperate. By the time Chewie does that, we already love the hell out of him, so it's kind of an affectionate laugh. In TPM, the jokes, especially that nearly a decade old 'exsqueeze me' Wayne's World B.S., are just trying to ingratiate the characters with the audience. Didn't work. One more thing I noticed about the trailer... in the shot of Watto, the junk dealer, there is a dark cloaked figure standing in front of him. The cloak looks like it has some kind of strange leopard print on it. Wonder who it is...
-
Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't you allowed to see any movie you want? If I go to see Harry Potter, can't I still see LOTR when it comes out? Can't I still see Star Wars when it comes out next year?!?!
Of course I can! So why do people have to pit one movie against another. Unless you are receiving profits straight from the studio, I don't really see why you give a shit. Fuck, if a movie I love does shit at the box office, why the fuck should I care. It doesn't change the fact that I loved the flick. Why do fuck do you guys care so much? -

At an often heated press conference held after the Return of the King, Gandalf, also known as the Grey Pilgrim, Mithrandir and the Grey Wanderer, denied responsibility for the trilogy's excessive body count and the wholesale slaughter of innocents, which occur at regular intervals throughout the tale. The sorcerer also denied exposing the lovable but diminutive and frail hobbits to extreme danger in their journey to 'the dark land' to defeat 'the dark Lord', and claimed the psychological scars sustained by the hobbit Frodo were 'his own stupid fault'. The increasingly cross conjurer was particularly incensed by Guardian reporter Polly Bunting's suggestion that his own neglect and mismanagement, particularly in the early stages of the campaign, led to hundreds, if not thousands of unecessary deaths. 'That's an outrage,' said Gandalf, who has no surname but is part of a mysterious race of super beings known as 'the Valar', who are sworn to fight the 'dark one'. When asked why he simply didn't use his friends the eagles to hover over the 'dark mountain' and drop the ring into the 'dark flame whence it came', the maddened mage had to be restrained by his friends, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli, fellow characters in the novel, who each play key roles in defeating 'the armies of darkness'. And a spokesperson for ASH, the anti-smoking lobby group, needed protection after she challenged Gandalf, a lifetime pipe smoker, to set a proper example to the vulnerable youngsters who read the world-famous trilogy. The enraged enchanter produced his pipe and lunged at ASH public promotions manager Noleen Drayton, shouting that for all he cared he would gladly thrust his three-bowl-a-day habit right up her gluteus maximus. I have to say that I have been seriously avoiding all EpII spoilers on the web and have not got a clue what the storyline is about. The only problem I have is still with the CGI - not the actual animation - the Yoda looks excellent - but the landscapes. I have yet to see a film where they fully nail the creation of a CGI landscape without it looking either 'washed out' or rather like a backdrop painting. Other than that, great! Especially not knowing what this one is all about.

While I think I liked TPM a little better than you did, your points are all valid. TPM doesn't hold up as a stand alone movie, but I can forgive that because I appreciate the whole picture. The other movies definitely succeed on their own, but ROTJ only gets by because it's populated with established characters that we love. If you look at the acting, it's really not that good. But it's easier to forgive things like the Han and Leia scene (after she finds out she's Lukes brother and tells Han to "hold" her- ugh!!!) because we love those characters. Much like what you said about Chewie's Tarzan scream in a later post, but it is kinda silly. I think Chewie as a character succeeds because he is primarily serious and kick ass but put in comedic situations. That actually makes him funnier than Jar Jar, who's primary function is comic relief- that doesn't work. I think if Jar Jar was more of a Gungan Warrior (like Captain Tarpals) but thrust into silly situations (like Chewie) he wouldn't even be an issue. I mean, why couldn't he have just picked up the blaster rifle and start taking out battle droids instead if having it get stuck to his foot?!!! That would've partly redeemed him, I think. But the Ewoks are really no better than Jar Jar. ROTJ's maybe better than TPM, but not by much. I'm still rally into them all, though and the ATOC teaser looks killer!! I'll be waiting in line. I think we have a solid 6 months of great movie-going ahead of us. And I also think the comparing/bickering about LOTR, HP, SPider-man, and ATOC is a huge waste of energy. Maybe it's fun for some people to do but I for one will eagerly see all 4 and hope they will all be DVD-worthy.

I mean "AOTC." And sorry about the double post!!! I got the all too familiar "website not responding" message and posted again. I should be flogged into a coma!!!

definitely an EWOK swingin' through the trees with a feeble Tarzan "yell", not Chewie. Perhaps nitpicky, but I thought y'all were -=*FANS*=-?

Someone had mentioned (I dn't know who though) that Jar Jar Binks wasn't in the trailer. I for one proclaim that is a croc' of crap/shit whatever. During the scene where Mace Windu is 'thinking', you see Senator Amidala and some other people with her. To the right of the screen, there is Captain Typho, then behind him is that big fat blue guy, then behind Senator Amidala is...you guessed it, Jar Jar. He does look different but thats him alright, just pause and slowly scroll and you'll see. Also, Mas Amedas (the blue horned guy from the first movie is in their too along with Bail Organa) you can see him on the left side of the screen.

All of you would LOVE to see a good movie, hm?
I'd say that's bad-luck, 'cause you will be disappointed, which is, of course, none of my businesses. -
It was ehhhh, so-so... That's it. I was a little disappointed. I was afterall expecting more, because it had to get better than TPM. Eeeeeyuuuh! You know, when I first saw Phantom, I thought it was pretty cool, explaining to all my friends that it did its job and set up the exposition for the rest of the series... Then I saw it again and thought it was okay... Entertaining; yeah, entertaining. And yeah, trade embargoes; had to set it up. :) But you know, the nagging little voice at the back of my mind continued to get louder. "God, that little kid is a terrible actor... So's the lady that played his mother... Actually everyone pretty much stinks except for Ewan and Natalie; they're in character. And, god, the interaction between the reallife actors and the cgi characters are way off. The silence surrounding the dialog is unbearable. Speaking of cg characters, that Jar Jar is sooo annoying. Man, this is pretty kiddiesh... Where are the Storm Troopers, and why should I care about fighting toasters with legs? What's with all the cliche's and pop culture references? This announcer during the pod race is really taking quite a bit away from the race itself. And on and on and on and on..." Well, I guess you see my meaning. I bought the DVD and watched the thing the other night... I could barely get through it. Have to say thought that the deletions from the pod race really should have been left in the movie. They were really cool. But, back to the point... Over the past year or so, I got really disenchanted with TPM. I pretty much think it sucks now. Call it a cave-in or what... But it stinks. I really hope this next one is better. The trailer disappointed me, but thinking on it, I notice improvements already. No little annoying non-acting Jake Lloyd, no annoying ass Jar Jar Binks, I saw really life living soldiers (at least I think that's what they are; clones or no), looks like they are going to more than one planet other than Tattooine, character development, and return of the Fetts... Yes! Can't wait to see the first big trailer at the beginning of Potter. Please, please let this be good. On a side note, Monsters Inc. was not funny, just cute. I was thoroughly bored, hense having enough to contemplate the new Star Wars trailer. And last, The Iron Giant ruled. It's based on an old blues song, and it was produced by Pete Townsend of The Who. Doesn't get much cooler than that.

Does anyone else think harry's prose sound like it's gone through one of those from german/french-to-english online translation programs?
