The Spy Tells Us Lucas Has More Filming To Do On ATTACK OF THE CLONES!!!
Hey folks, Harry here... Our spy here... Corban gave me a trail of breadcrumbs and some off the record stuff that seemed to check out. So we'll tread softly as we procede, but he does tell me that we should be expecting some wonderful behind the scenes peeks soon enough. Seems that Harry Lime did a better job at Skywalker than Darth Flannel expected... Muhahahahahahhaaaa.... All too easy...
Hey,
The other day at work ( can't tell ya where that is ), guess who decided to stop by? Old Man Lucas himself. His 2nd rough cut is finished and he's not too happy with it.
The action scenes are nice but some of the pacing in the early scenes is off and the Anakin/Padme scenes are a mess. From what I have gathered, it just seems like there are whole scenes missing between the two characters and they seem to jump from A to C, not A to B to C. Lucas needs to film something for B. Plus he needs to film his little secret ending.
But anyways, trailer A is complete and he was ready to show it off in our nice big screening room. Just like theater seating, but no cup holders. Since about 35% of the effects are done, he was able to get the scenes he wanted into this marvelous trailer. Just like the first, you get a bit of everything.
Well folks, this trailer is a nice little treat. Not only will it be out with your favorite
film this year, but I dare to say it is better than the new LOTR trailer! I can't wait to see it again. Oh wait, I can see it whenever I want to. Well, this trailers got some really cool shots and has some new text to open it. Not three lines long but still cool. It does focus on Anakin once more and shows a little less action than the other trailers for Episode 1. More soon! I just wanted to get the word out as soon as possible!

The trailer is going to be attached to my "favorite movie" of the year? Not to pre-decide what my favorite movie of the year is, but I don't think it's coming out at thanksgiving. It's coming out dec. 19th baby!
Good news that he's re-shooting. It can only get better, right? RIGHT?!? I'm mean ROTJ got better when he re-shot some new Boba Fett footage, right? RIGHT??? -

What kind of scoop is that? I heard all that last week. Tell us what scene "B" is!!
-
Great report but please follow through with details -- Thank you.
-
and announced he would be going back to do more shooting in November.
-
star wars is for little kids. Lucas is so 1975. Peter Jackson is the KING!
-
The main reason George Lucas probably wanted to reshoot stuff is probably because he seen the LOTR trailer and sat in awe. There is no way that the AOTC trailer will be better than that. Even though I like Star Wars, after the Episode 1 trailer they could make the best trailer in the world ever... and I still wouldnt think that this film will be good. At Least with LOTR I get a STORY, what do I get with AOTC?? EYE CANDY and a story written by a 5 yr old. I'll just pass on excitement for AOTC, its not worth getting myself worked up again to be let down again.
-
Actually I take this as good news. Lucas may actually start caring about non-action scenes! I read somewhere that the scenes between Anakin and Padme were unconvincing so hopefully this is being fixed. More character development and less cheesy dialogue for Episode 2 please George. Would be nice if we cared about the characters, unlike TPM where the acting was wooden. I mean none of the characters had any "spunk". What I love about 3P0, Leia and Solo is that they're feisty, mysterious and INTERERSTING. God I must be bored to post in Talkback.
-
More shooting? Not really a scoop is it? Lucas has never made any secret of his style of Directing. All the actors in the film were told that they would be required to come back at semi-regular times to do reshoots. I've read that John Williams has seen the new rough cut of the film so maybe after his comments on the film and how he see's how the music should go with it, Lucas has felt he needs to shoot some more scenes. This, I feel bodes well for the movie. Lucas may have taken to heart some of the more legitimate criticism of TPM (Not the rabid fanboy ravings that seem to fill these talkbacks) and wants to develop the characters more rather than make the FX better. They were spectacular in TPM so need to top them (but Im sure they will!) so character development seems to more important to Lucas this time round. All in all I think we can all agree that the next 12 months at the flicks are gonna be good ones!
-
What, are they re-releasing "Buckaroo Banzai" for a theatrical run? :)
-
Stop with badmouthing Star Wars and look at it for what it is...A fun film saga! AS far as Lucas being 1975, well whatever somebody sounds jealous! And when it comes down to it SW will always reign over LOTR

Don't you think Operation Enduring Freedom is just about as awful a title as Attack of the Clones? What's the reference in the Harry cartoon?
-
I think that was planted in the article just to get us fighting. Star Wars and LoTR are apples and oranges. There's really no need to get into a pissing match over what's better, at least until the movies come out.I like the original Star Wars as much as the next redblooded American, but SW1 didn't do anything for me (I was in a giant theater full of cheering people so I guess I'm alone in this.) Darth Maul was the only good part of the movie, for me anyway - Ray Park is da bomb. I'll probably drag myself to SW2 in the hopes of seeing 5 minutes of Boba Fett, not even knowing why Boba Fett is supposed to be kewl. By God I hope they don't show his face - no Michael Myers unmasking scene - let him pursue mercilessly like the trucker in Duel. I want to see Ewan McGregor crying frantically, "Can't beat me on the grade!"

For the first time ever in my entire life, I am not excited to see a new Star Wars movie. I had all the toys as a kid, I saw all the films in it's various formats on the big screen and I cannot believe I just said that. Also I got an idea to semi-boycott this movie for those that felt cheated with Episode 1 but still can't help wanting to see Episode 2. When it comes out, wait for 2 weeks and then see it, so it will f*ck up it's 1st 2 weekend box office totals. Even better, wait for a $2.00 theatre screening.

who ever said star wars will always reign over lotr is right, about the original trilogy. this new monstrosity is a horrid attempt for the fat man to ruin what i love so he can buy more twinkies to feed the real writer of the new trilogy, his 8 yr old kid. ild rather go to a backstreet boy concert, or sit through battlefield agian before i see phantom menace. the only good thing about tpm were the jedi. i really want to see the phantom edit. lotr has been around longer, and created the fantasy genre. sci fi has always existed. lord of the rings if its just a little good will blow the socks off of star wars. and why? because lucas has lost sight of his original treasure. look at him, during the first movies he was energetic, and now, he has become like jabba. just look at that arrogant half smile on his face in every pic of him, and the "im god" way he talks. he cant truly do the movies that way he intented to, because his vision has changed. and with it i hear the cry of a thousand souls before their light was extinguished. i liked darth maul, but he cant stand up to ring wraiths. or a cave troll, or the fucking balrog(spelling?) one major thing lotr has going for it is NO jar jar.ive seen the test footage for ep2, without special effects, some of it look cool, but i thought that about 1, and look what i got, nuderd space battles, a horrible kiddy gugan fight, a pathetic princess running battle, and an awesome jedi fight. i feel a little cheated that i had to watch the rest of it just to see what the jedi did. and the whole cast of lotr can act. unlike say, the flat acting of loyd, and the horrid kid writing(im sorry no kid in the universe says yippie) lotr is a grown up tale, and that is why it will win, because it wont talk down to us, like tpm did. hell, ive got the toys for lotr and they are ten times better then any crappy sw toys released lately. and another thing, people who claim to see star wars footage, say its going to blow everything away, and its really cool, where as everyone who has seen lotr footage has said
"holy fucking hell, shit, fuking, oh my god, oh oh oh," i remember hairy's reaction to the cannes footage, he about had a lobotamy, you guys read it too, hairy could barely talk. moral, star wars footage = looks cool, and arrogant attitude about it
lotr footage = inability to form full sentences due to mere beauty of footage.
you tell me who wins. -
Ive seen posts above saying how great movies will be the next 12 months and Im scratching my head. Sure between now and Christmas we will have some great ones and hopefully Episode 2 next May. But then on the other hand we will have Scooby Doo, Shallow Hal, Rollerball, Time Machine which this site keeps reporting is a mess. Scorpion King sounds bad, Why did Monte Cristo get delayed? Usually a ba sign. Do we need another Men in Black. Im scared that Spiderman might try to be to serious and to campy at the same time and end up sucking. Resident Evil may suck, I doubt Austin Powers 3 can top number 2. Need I say more. The scary thing is the highlight of mext summer may be the powder puff girls movie

Anakin hops into his mini-Destroyer and flies off from the final big Jedi/clone battle sequence. He enters a space anomaly on his way back to Tatoonine. When he lands, Uncle Owens comes out to great him... only he's a WOOKIE!!!! This causes the change into Dark Vader, his hatred of Wookies, and a sudden urge to grudge fuck Portman (giving us Luke). Lucas later explains that the ending is not supposed to make sense, but rather make the public think.

than Hayden and Natalie do. The scenes with Hayden and Ewan are described as Indy Jr./Indy Sr. with lots of affectionate banter between the two men and that sort of thing. Great friendship before the inevitable fall. However, the buzz sources weren't as enthusiastic about Hayden and Natalie. The word cheesy kept coming up. They raved about Christopher Lee's Dooku and how he majorly mind f#cks Anakin and Obi-Wan. Great battles. Not a good romance. Oh dear. Still, there's no reason to think the trailer won't outdo LOTR's trailer. If you've got attractive actors, great music and images you can always put together a fantastic trailer....I wonder how George will deal with his movie inspiring slash fantasies extraordinaire. So Lucas is really concerned about jumping from A to C now? Uh... is he the same George Lucas who made Phantom Menace, where the movie sometimes appeared as if it was hastily patched together from whatever was available when the deadline came, even though some completed scenes that could have helped the flow of the story were left out? And no, I am not one of the Phantom Menace-haters, I actually liked the movie and even laughed out loud about Jar Jar once. It's just that my main complaints about that movie are the lack of coherence and the bad pacing (I'm truly hoping for the DVD to fix that). I wonder what made Lucas worry about these issues again, when he obviously didn't give much of a damn when he made Phantom Menace. Perhaps it _is_ pressure he is feeling from LotR (though I doubt it).
And about the LotR comparision: Whoever said that Star Wars and LotR are like apples and oranges is quite wrong. They are actually quite the same - both are fantasy movies (yes, I know, there are some people who think that Star Wars is science fiction - sigh), just in different settings. They are very comparable. But beyond that, it's a matter of personal taste, some are going to prefer one, others are going to prefer the other. As for myself, I think that if Attack of the Clones is anything like Phantom Menace, then LotR will be quite a bit better, and I will be watching Attack of the Clones in the theatre, always thinking that I can't wait for December. Heck, the new LotR trailer was better than all of Phantom Menace! -
go to operation sombrero . com and see the screen caps they got from the dvd coming out next week. its more interesting than this turd of an article.

Jesus Christ, that film is pissing me off so much, and it's all because of you rabid fanboys mentioning it all the damn time. Face it, geeks, the trailer looked mediocre at best, with some bloody awful special effects that looked like they were borrowed from Dungeons and Dragons. And the actors - Jeez... could they be any more hammy? Delivering candy-ass speeches about elves and pixies like it's bloody Shakespeare. And stop hailing Peter Jackson as a visionary or whatever. His adaption of this book will be as great an achievement in directing as Chris Columbus' Harry Potter will be - just a straight adaption of the book. Plus, none of you have seen the film, so shut up your arses until you do.
-
Bah, come on you shit heads, why can't you give us something interesting to mull over? Instead we get some geek talking about the trailer, what are we supposed to do fill in his gaps? LOTR will be good, let us not forget that LOTR is Star Wars' original source material. George Lucas isn't good enough to create his own Good vs. Evil fantasy template. It's a shame that it is Lucas that has destroyed the joy of Star Wars, or is it McCallum leading him to the dark and disney side?
-
Peter Bart once wrote that George Lucas is "simply so rich and mythologized that ordinary people can't even talk to him." I think that's what went wrong with Ep1: who dared tell GL that Jar-Jar was kind of a stupid character, or that the Lloyd kid was a bit wooden? Who can say no to George Lucas? He's rich enough to do the whole thing himself, his way, with his own money, and he's made enough other people rich to have carte blanche. I can't tell what McCallum's role is in all this, aside from being the official public face of the prequels. If he had any real clout, and any real sense, he'd boot George out of the director's chair and get somebody in there for Ep2 who can wring a human conversation out of two actors, who can make two young "lovers" act as if they're really in love. Irvin Kershner did it for Empire -- why not call somebody like that?
-
...for someone who admits that no one has seen FOTR yet, you sure seem to know an awful lot about what it will be like. I'd say practice what you preach.
-
And also greater Sudbury.
.
Does anyone see the pattern evolving here with Lucas and the 'hot' movie property at the time? During the making of Episode 1, Lucas was watching the Godzilla remake with a careful eye. Now there are stories of him doing the same with LOTR. Nothing too surprising since LOTR basically covers the same fantasy ground that Star Wars covers.
.
Be afraid, George, be very afraid. And if that fear drives you to make a better movie, then so be it!
.
Gotta love the power of competition and the pressure that results. ;) -
I have 3 words for you: GET A LIFE.
-
Totally agree with you Lord Mall, you've hit it right on the head. Lets hope he actually feels the pressure after tossing us something as feeble as TPM for a movie.

I hate both Star Wars AND LOTR, so I'm not in the position of having to "choose sides." I want them both to fail miserably. Of course they'll both be huge financial successes, which is all that matters to the jackasses in Hollywood anyway, but I'm still holding out hope that both films will be the critical equivalent of two trains smashing into each other at 200 mph, reducing one another to total oblivion. That is my dream.
-
If so, then that's reason enough to be hopeful about this movie. . .even though "Dooku" is probably the silliest name Lucas has come up with since Sy Snoodles.
-
This is a crappy report. I dont beleive any of it, not that theres much to have an opinion on anyway. Go to OpSom or episode-x for real updates, good ones at that.
-
Personally, I think George Lucas sits around his skywalker ranch all day in an Ewok costume and Does drive a golf cart everywhere he goes!
LOTR is the shiznit! -
I think the news that TMRFE is doing reshoots is great news. It shows me he actually cares about the quality of the acting and dialog this time, both of which were severly lacking in "The Phantom Menace"... Well except for Liam Neeson and a couple others. (Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon Jinn WAS the movie for me.) As for the trailer, the best it can be is equal to the new LOTR trailer but I can't see it be better since the LOTR one is just about perfect. "You shall not pass!" is worth the price of admission alone. Which reminds me, I think the SW vs LOTR crap is lame. I'm sick of everyone pitting everything against each other. It's like the Matrix vs SW or Star Trek vs Star Wars. It's gotten to the point where people act like your not suppose to like both and now it's going on with LOTR. It's stupid and childish. Grow up people.

Since the TPM trailer was attached to Wing Commander (my all time favorite movie) then logically the AOTC trailer will be attached to Wing Commander 2 (my soon to be all time favorite movie!) I can't wait. Finally, Lillard and Prinze will be together again, for the first time since this summer's hottest movie, Summer Catch! And I get to see the trailer for what's sure to be the best movie in the Star Wars sextology!

You mean people actually care about Attack of the Clones?
by sfreviews.net
I thought the suckiness of Phantom Menace plus the goofiness of the new title meant this franchise had already been consigned to the dustbin.
-
The fatf*ck stole all ideas from Tolkien...can't even come up with his own stuff, god damn quadruple chin bastard! LOTR RULES!!!!!!!
-
Spider-Man is gonna stomp all over Lucas' overhyped poorly named space opera.Nuff said!!
-
I think George Lucas has lost the fire. He should doesn't have what it takes anymore to make movies, he is just some rich bastard that thinks he is a player.
Rick McCallum should be fired and the whole franchise should be given to real film makers. -
It's good story vs. pure Lucas SHIT.--------- Phantom Menace actually made me like Star Wars LESS. How is that possible?! Clones will make me like Star Wars even less. -----------It's too late for Lucas to fix Clones based on LOTR trailers but maybe...just maybe he'll start the third movie in his usual fallen way, when his 18 year old son turns him from the dark side! Lucas gets a heart attack and his son finishes the film inspired by the complete LOTR trilogy! Lucas redeemed, it's his life theme.

AOTC will be the best Star Wars movie ever. And George Lucas is God!

It at least seems to indecate that he gives a damn about the story this time around, and is working overtime to tighten it up. How anyone can view that as bad news is beyond me. As I've said before, Lucas was rusty the last time around. I fully expect AOTC to rock, and I especially expect LORD OF THE RINGS to rock. I'm not worried. Bring 'em.
-
T be honest did george really have it?I mean Star wars is not exactly original and the universe was created by other people (Novel writers ,comic artists,Sfx guys etc)All george did really was approve things. It would explain why hes SO out of touch with his so called creation wouldnt it?I think people give him too much credit The original trilogy worked because of the cast members and the then revolutionary effects.
Proof? Its taken george so many years to come up with this you would think he would of had the Script completed by now.BUT NO there are plot holes abound hes having trouble with continuity.
GENIUS? HMMMMMMMMMMMM.
After TPM as evidence I think you would agree!
If anything he should of declined from the directors chair as this REALLY needs a human element to make it work (just like the originals).Give it to ANG LEE!!
CROUCHING TIGER was to me like watching star wars as a child.
I await LOTR hopefully it will have structure!
-
and to think Lucas was gonna do Apocalypse Now.
-
i think that ep1 really sucked but is that a reason for disliking (right spelled) aotc?
i`m looking forward to see both movies...! i HOPE lotr will become a masterpiece in filmhistory but that doesn`t mean that star wars will be forgotten..AND george has the advantage to have the last word 2005 because THE NEW KING will be released 2003...(sorry for this bad grammar but my english teacher here in germany is a very nasty guy:) -
This is nothing to get your tits in a twist over.
This happens to movies all the time.
Unless any talkbacks are in the biz or are experienced filmmakers, they should reserve judgement.
AOTC will kick mucho asso just like Ep 1 did.
If anyone doubts me, feel free to email me.
LOTRs MAY be good, but Jackson has yet to proove his worth to me.
Another thing going against LOTRs box-office is the female audience.
That's what made "Titanic" the monster hit it was. Also, it crossed the gender and generational lines by attracting "Star Wars"-size mass appeal. LOTR does not have mass appeal.
It will not be a good date movie, other than the internet geeks and hard-core Tolkien fans, that's pretty much it.
I know of NO one who can't wait to see this. That means dick of course, but it's indicative of how unappealing most fanstasy films are to the general movie going public, which LOTRs has to win over for it to score huge business.
Joe Sixpack will not be there opening day. Cool visuals alone does not a movie make.
It may very well be good, but for anyone to say it will do "SW" business is a fool. Cool trailer or not.
It will gross $100-&110 million tops.
"Lucas is so 1975?" What the hell does that mean? -
Its getting boring now listening to all this my film is better than your film.
Im a fan of both of and cant wait for them to come to the cinema.
The only other thing that is annoying is people saying star wars was based on the lotr book.
It was actualy influenced by a book called "Hero with a thousand faces" by Joseph Campbell. Who found there was a common link that ran through all mythologies. Lucas took that common link and used it as a basis for the starwars story. -
First of all, if a movie has trouble attracting a female audience, it is rather Star Wars than LOTR. I am 100% sure that there is a higher percentage of females among those who have read LOTR than among those who have seen Star Wars. LOTR is not a dating movie or a movie for females? Think again, I have heard of women who will see it just for Sean Bean. What do you think why they chose Sean Bean, Viggo Mortensen and Orlando Bloom for three of the lead roles? There's a potential heart throb for every "taste". ---------- Having said that, I don't see the big deal with comparing LOTR and AOTC and saying which of these movies you are likely to like better, or which of these movies you expect to make more money. It's fun, as long as people don't punch each other's teeth in. I know, I am going to like both movies (or all three movies, if I should include Harry Potter), and the only reason why I compare them is that right now, the expectation for LOTR overpowers my expectation for AOTC and Harry Potter by far. Comparing the movies has nothing to do with being a fanboy - in fact, some of the people who complain about the comparisions seem to be the biggest fanboys here (tell-tale signs are for example the usage of the word "Padawan").
-
Yes LoTR and SW are similar, as apples & oranges are similar in that they are fruit. You've got completely fictional, mythologolized storylines, a few similar characters, some of the same conceits (evil bad guy with evil empire, lure of the Dark Side vs. lure of the ring). On the other hand, LoTR and SW belong to different genres and the whole tone of the works are completely different. The FLAVOR, if you will. SW is a fun jaunt through a mythic landscape. LoTR is a serious, frightening, intellectually challenging journey through a different mythic landscape. LoTR requires an engaged mind to enjoy, and elicits a much more complex emotional response. You might say that SW is candy, while LoTR is an acquired taste - a complex dish. Not to slam SW, I have enjoyed it thoroughly, but it's really not the same at all. When I think of SW, I think of endless hours plopped on a couch with pals and popcorn, being pleasantly entertained. When I think of LoTR, mmmmm . . . the sweet purple twilight of escapism. I am there walking on the grass of Middle Earth while I turn the yellowed pages of my old paperbacks. I never wanted to be anywhere in the Star Wars universe, but I'd relocate to Rivendell in a hearbeat.I never learned much of anything from SW, but as a kid I read a lot of interesting things in LoTR. For instance, the notion that the world carries on, and somewhere the stars are still shining, even if you're dead or despairing of all hope. When I worry about death, I think about Sam's song in "The Return of the King." And I think of spring coming again, of flowers growing from my empty eye sockets. What does SW have to say about death? Well, you can come back as a semi-transparent ghost and smile at your loved ones, IF you're a Jedi Knight.sorry if I got carried away above - I seem to be channeling Peter S. Beagle.--The Chockster
-
Chocky, that was quite well-written. However, there is one problem with your analysis: You are comparing LotR the book with Star Wars the movie. It's no surprise that you get to the result that SW and LotR are like apples and oranges if you compare a book with a movie. However, if you want to be fair, you have to compare the LotR movie (or what you expect the movie to be) against SW. The LotR movies definitely won't have as much depth as the books, and from the books you also won't get the feeling of "turning the yellowed pages" of your paperbacks. ---------- Also, you claim that SW and LotR belong to different genres. Which genres are these? To me they belong both to the same genre: Fantasy.
-
Well, how many of us are coming to AICN for news nowadays anyway? Hardly anyone. I come here, because I got used to it some years ago before Harry sold out to the studios, and now its a habit that is hard to break. And of course, the talkbacks are usually interesting, as people tend to let loose here much more than on other sides. But I think we all know that there are better movie sites with newer and more accurate information than AICN. I mean, why would someone give a really hot spy report that could endanger their job to someone who is best friends with their boss's boss's boss? And who knows how many spy reports Harry gets that he doesn't post, because he doesn't want to hurt his good relationship with the studios. ------------------- In any case, where do you get the idea that Harry Potter is gay (I must have read the censored versions of the books)? And even if he is, do you have to be gay to watch a movie about a gay guy? I wonder what that means for the millions of Elton John and George Michael fans. ;)
-
It's true, I am comparing book to movie. Just got carried away, coz it's so much fun.I would say that nominally at least Star Wars is Science Fantasy: outer space, spaceships, electricity, advanced technology, aliens, etc. combined with sword fights and a rescued princess. The most advanced technology you'll get on Middle Earth are gears and explosives, if I recall correctly. Spose it's a matter of taste but a lot of advanced technology and/or being placed in the future seems to override other considerations when determing genre - if it's ahead of what we have now, or it's the future of now, it's sci-fi.
-
Why must we always say that one will be great and the other will suck ass. Why not wish them both well? I am excited for both, Fellowship and Ep2 within 6 months, who ever thought!!!
Go dump on something worth dumping on, like that Musketeer movie. Now that thing sucked balls. -
Look I liked the Phantom Menace. Was it as good as the any of the original films? Yes it was better than Jedi I thought. Of course it nothing will come close to A New Hope amd Empire Strikes Back. Will I like the whole LOTR trilogy? Yes. Will I like AOTC and Episode 3, probably. One thing to remember is Lucas is writing an original series of films. Jackson is just adapting. Even though if it wasn't for LOTR there might not have been a Star Wars. All in all let's just enjoy these films. I think we may need that. This is off the subject but Monsters Inc, Ocean's 11, Ali, Harry Potter and LOTR. It's going to be a good few months. Take care everyone. Remember it won't be the end of the world if any of these movies aren't good. Which is the feeling I get from those of you who didn't like The Phantom Menace.
-
is anyone reminded of the Onion article about the movie geeks arguing about which unreleased movie was better? It's you it's me baby.
for the guy who said Star Wars is a rip off of mythology... uh.. hasn't Lucas been telling everyone who would listen that for the past twenty years anyways? Not much of a scoop there. Read some Bill Campbell and forget about it, so many stories are a rip off of mythology it isn't really worth mentioning in a point the finger kind of a way.
I'm with the people who say the last trailer was good and the movie was mediocre to really really not good. Pretty, but not good. I could probably name a few Disney animated from the past few years that were much better.
So unless I hear creamy reviews from trusted friends, this is going to be a third or fourth week matinee.
Peace out. -
The only exposure I have had to LOTR is the Hobbit cartoon, which I saw when I was 4. I loved that cartoon, but I never read any of the books. When I heard they were making the movies, I didn't care much, and after seeing the trailer, I care even less. I'm sorry, I hate to say it, it's just not interesting to me. I bring this up I want people to know that there are people like me out there who have no intention of seeing it, and the trailer didn't sway me one bit. Not only that, I don't know anyone who wants to see it either. I know that LOTR has a big following, but so does L Ron Hubbard, and you didnt see Battlefield Earth break any records. I think it will pull in some big numbers, probably break the single day record, but beyond that, who knows? The only thing it has going for it, seriously, is that it has no competition for a few months.

A lot of people thought TPM was a disappointment. A lot of people love Star Wars to a point that they can either treat it as a slow opening act or actually liked it for whatever reason. But, the negative vive on Star Wars that has been brewing since Ewoks showed up onscreen caused a lot of fans to get defensive. It's like when a baseball player gets old, but his true fans keep cheering for him even though most of the people in the stands are booing the bum. That's not to say Lucas is washed up, he may very well have a Bonds 2001 season left in him. Hell, McGwire hit .200 the season he broke up with his girlfriend. Anyway, I'm digressing. The point is, the fans became galvanized because there has been so much criticizing of their favorite franchise. So what's the easiest thing to do? Throw numbers/stats in the nah sayers' faces, start debates about why their film/player will be better than the hot new movie/rookie, and generally do whatever to keep the name going so it doesn't seem washed up.

Uh... Jackson doesn't have an exactly perfect batting record. Isn't 'The Frighteners' his only other big budget film to date? 'The Phantom Menace' was far from perfect, but it was definitely better than 'The Frighteners'. From what I know about 'Attack of the Clones', it sounds pretty damned cool. Yes, Lucas borrowed from 'Lord of the Rings'. In fact, the first time I saw 'Star Wars' was on a double bill with Bakshi's 'LOTR'. He also borrowed from ancient myth (as did Shakespeare) and Kurosawa and 'The Wizard of Oz' and 'Triumph of the Will' and '2001' and 'Flash Gordon' and 'Lawrence of Arabia' and about a million other sources. I'm looking forward to both films.

Hello? Is this thing on? Doesn't have mass appeal? Last time I checked, the LOTR trilogy has sold over 53+ million copies worldwide in umpteen different languages, and has been named by several different publishers as the most popular book of the twentieth century, in some cases outselling the Bible.... A killing will be made off of these people alone world wide (yes, world wide. other cultures tend to be more well read then our American almost-illiterate asses)... This does not include the girlfriends, friends, and family that these people will take to the theaters with them, or people who hear the buzz and see the movie without any previous exposure to the books. LOTR is a goldmine, and New Line knows it... which is why they've given Jackson so much leeway to make these movies the way he wants(needs) to. Good for them, I say. As much as I love Star Wars, I was generally disappointed with Ep1...and I fear the same will be true with Ep2. I'll see it anyway, for posterity's sake... but I will lower my expectations. December, please some sooner...

I heard It was because the big love ballad duet that Annakin and Padme sing needed to be redone because haydn was so off key the first time.

I have consdiered myself a fan fo Star Wars all my life and also love the LOTR books.
As I read the above usual dilge of thick amercian teenage twats, I can not help developing the opinion that the longest peice of literature they ever read whilst growing up was the slogan on a t-shirt.
Face it children, you are scared that a english story filmed by Kiwi's is going to blow away a symbol of US Hollywood mythology.
Star Wars is dead. Long live LOTRs.
ps. I love this global community called the internet - it brings us all that little bit closer ;-)

I think to counteract the artificially inflated fan expectations of Ep1, "negative" reports are being filtered to bring things down a notch. Hardcore fans will go regardless and casual fans will probably go to this movie, which to them would have the allure of a car wreck, potentially horrible yet fascinating. Personally I'm looking forward to AOTC, LOTR and to a lesser extent M2( the first 2 movies were a part of my childhood, M2 was not)

It's odd how someone who says they are a fan in the the same
by mad maximus
Again, we are so ready to judge 2 unfinished products. Can't we wait until both are released and then judge. Many folks thought that Ep1 would kick ass. The trailers had good word of mouth, the spy and behind the scenes stuff whetted everyones interest and things were on a high note. Throw in 16 years of fanboy expectations and the added hype and everyone flocked. When some folks didn't get the movie that was playing in their heads for the past 16 years, folks were outraged. Well tough, they should have walked in expecting to see Lucas' movie, not theirs. Will LOTR suffer the same fate? I hope not. Peter Jackson and Co have assembled a crack team of LOTR fans for the scipting so things should be good. Granted to get everyting in he would either have to excise or reduce some character roles, possibly change some events around to fit a 2 1/3- 3 hour format. And you know what, no matter what, he would do someone would cry to the heavens "Peter Jackson ass raped my child hood" over some nonsense that only a purist and not a casual fan would care about, like not including Bill the Pony or what not. If he can introduce a person to the books then bravo to PJ, he opened up a whole new world to someone by firing up their imaginations. Lucas did the same thing 24 years ago and hopefully with every new generation, somone will be there to fan the fires or imagination...As I said above, I wish both men good luck on their endeavors, and if it makes people happy, then they have done their jobs. Critics and the Us vs Them folks be damned, we have a lot of good movies coming up don't let the high school -college freshmen fanboys/ cynics ruin it for you, just sit back, relax and enjoy the show.....BTW, I'm avoiding spoilers over LOTR, so I don't know if that Bill the Pony comment is true :)
