  • Goddamn! I am so excited about this coming Fall and Winter theater extravanganza of the GOOD STUFF. 'Ali" included, thank you very much. I have been a fan of boxing since I was just a wee child. And Ali was the man. He had the charisma of a thousand people and could definitely walk the walk and talk the talk. I have "When They Were Kings" and watch it religiously - and am brought to tears almost everytime I watch it. Just remembering the greatness that this man represented up there in the ring. I hope to high heaven that Will Smith has succeeded in portraying Ali. By the trailers I've seen, I think he has.

    Beautiful

    by redbox

Beautiful. I hope The movie makes me feel like the trailer does. Ali is the greatest and Will finally steps up to his potential as an actor not a movie star. The potential I saw in Six Degrees of Seperation.

    Yeah, why use Moby?

    by matthat121

I agree that the motown (Sam Cooke I believe it was) music they used for the two teasers was much better. This new trailer doesn't carry the ride mood...it doesn't feel like its set in the past. Its got a lot A LOT of great images and sequences. As a trailer, it ain't much, but looking at the footage itself, and knowing who's behind this project (Mann and Roth), "Ali" is at least gonna be good. I wish Ali had recruited Dante Spinotti for Cinematography, though. His work on The Insider is stunning.

Oh shut up. Bitch bitch moan moan. Let`s see you talkback fucks make a better trailer. This trailer ROCKS like nothing else I have seen this year, INCLUDING lord of the rings. They used Moby because the song in question builds excitement brilliantly and matches the rhytmn of the footage perfectly. They used soul music in the last one to highlight the period aspect, different objective. You want the same shit over and over, same music, same DP as Insider. Whatever. Go bitch somewhere else.

I hate to be the dissenting opinion here, but..

    by fitzy funk

This trailer didn't look all that impressive to me. Sure, Mann knows how to frame a shot by now, and use music and sound effects tightly edited together to make this footage look exciting, but I still have my doubts. I had heard early buzz that Will Smith had "become" Ali much the same way Carrey "became" Andy Kaufmann in MOM. That doesn't look to be the case at all (he certainly LOOKS the part, though). I guess my problem with biopics, I guess, is that the main focus always seems to come back to "look at what an important, overlooked figure he/she was!". I guess that's part of the definition of "biopic," so maybe I'm being too hard. But I'm not getting my hopes too high up for this, Beautiful Mind, or The Majestic. I think I'm just setting myself up to be let down. Now, Gangs of New York and Fellowship of the Ring, on the other hand...

that as great as this trailer was, the trailer for FOTR easily kicks its ass. I have high expectations for this movie, but it would take alot to dethrone FOTR as best movie this December; and personally I don't think Ali has was it takes.

Not impressed at all. Looks slick, but I just don't buy it at all. Really, it's Will Fucking Smith...if Kubrick or Jodorowsky or Lynch directed this I still wouldn't care. And that's the worse choice of music I've heard since the X-Men trailer - scratch that - Spiderman trailer - scratch that - Enterprise theme. You know what I mean..

    Mann can do no wrong

    by mann75

Michael Mann is the reason I become a film major. His films are a melding of great music and images, and this trailer shows that ALI is no different. Anyone who saw Heat and Insider knows that Mann captures emotion on film better than any other director alive, and I cannot wait till ALI comes out. From all appearences he nailed it. This was such a risky project, with so many ways to fail, its a testament to his talent and vision that he did not. Long live Michael Mann, and Will Smith. I (hoped) didn't know you had it in you.

    Will Smith.......................................

    by rowanm

will smith must have been under enormous pressure to do this film justice. Not so much for himself or the audience, but more for "The Man Himself" and the Dynasty to which that entails. The whole boxing world involved with the real man will have a major interest in how they turn out. I think Will Smith will dedicate it for them. That's why I'm wondering about how confident does he really appear.

    by protector

When I saw this trailer I let go of all my hopes, disbeliefes and other s**t like that because I'm now sure of everything. This is going to be Will Smith's greatest performance ever. He's not going to get an oscar though, he might not even be nominated. The film may open big but it'll have huge difficulties in passing the 105 mln$ border (film's budget). Mark my words. It's gonna share Insider's fate. About 7 nods and not a single oscar. Still I just love Ali's line "So what?So what? I ain't got to be what everybody else want me to be and I ain't afraid to be what I wanne be." BEAUTIFUL. Later.

When I saw the trailer I was amazed. This is Will Smith NOT PLAYING Will Smith. He changed his voice, he buffed up for the role, Hell, he even changed some of his mannerisms! But still Talkbackers would rather sit in the blue glow of their screens and shit on this movie. Kevin Smith had it dead on in JSBSB. I have pretty much avoided theaters this summer -- most the movies have not interested me -- but December will mark my return since JSBSB. ALI and LOTR look worth my $10.

What's Mels problem. I also think Mann movies kick ass, but I agree with the minority, this trailer just doesn't get it done, and I don't think I'm the only one who is annoyed by Will Smith. Mel, you complain about everyone bitching and you've done more of it than anyone else. Lighten Up! Everyone's entitled to their opinion.

Nah, see, if you wanna be a talkbacker then you gotta bitch and moan about EVERYTHING! You got to get into this immature state of mind that you can do everything better than anyone else and all movies are crap.
But the best thing is no one has EVER cared what ANYONE on this site has ever said, so it doesn't really matter what a bunch of computer nerds think about movies anyway.

  • They got the looks right, and some of the speach is right (some it very Will Smith), but I don't think he quite got Ali's body language right. Especially the scene where he's showing how good he looks, "Ain't I the perfect specimen of a man?", Will Smith doesn't quite seem to believe it, while Ali definately did. Will Smith almost seemed to feel a little embarrassed at making such a such statement, while Ali certainly did not. Remember, Ali is widely believed to be the greatest boxer ever, and mostly because he said it so many times himself so convincingly: he believed it, and made you feel like an idiot if you didn't think so too. I expect this will probably play much like Man in the Moon, where for the first half Jim Carrey WAS Andy Kauffman, but by the end you could really see Carrey breaking through. I'm still not sure I'll see this one.

    Looks GREAT!!

    by triplej

THis is a great trailer! One of the years best!! I can't believe there are people complaining about it. Then, again, people on this site complain about everything! I think alot just do it to make themselves look different and supposely more intelligent then the rest of us. Smith is doing the job, judging by the trailer. Is he 100% Ali, no, but his close as it gets. He buffed up and has Ali's speech pattern down. He also has that cocky, I'm the best in the world act down, too. I totally disagree with the poster who said Will doesn't sell the line, " The world's most perfect male specimen." That was my favorite part of the trailer. Will was Ali at that part!! I think alot of you no matter how good a job Will does will never say a postive thing about his performance. You made up your minds about him long ago when he was first cast in the role. Some of you just don't like the man, so you won't give him a fair chance. Well, I'm done rambling, for now.

I could care less about his boxer. I definately will not pay to see it in the theater. Will Smith my do a good job, but that's not enough to get me to pay ten bucks to see it. I'll wait, no, I won't even rent this on DVD.

    I don't get Michael Mann.

    by danaverage

Isn't this the same Michael Mann who first hit it big with "Miami Vice"? Boy, what a masterpiece of brains and storytelling that was. Although it would've been more truthful if they had just called it "Don Johnson presents Glamorized Semiautomatic Weapon of the Week (with chase scene)." I thought "Last of the Mohicans" had its moments, but "Heat" has to be the most overrated "cop drama" in the history of mankind.

    by richie vanderlow

Going for a different angle here than the first trailer. This trailer does not look like a Michael Mann film, and i don't like it.

The first one was a lot more emotional, and emphasized the subtlties that Mann is famous for.

I am still excited to see this movie, but I don't think Moby really fits the style and era of this movie. I hope this is the last we'll hear this type of music associated with this film.

Me Pull Last of Mohicans on Michael Mann Hating Bastards!!!

    by wonton mercenary

First off, Harry as Bruce Lee - BLASPHEMER!!! But that's okay, if he didn't have his ego, what would he have?

Alright, on to better and brighter things - not really. First off, I have to admit, I didn't really agree with the use of "Body Rock" on this trailer - using Moby is fine, as Mann exhibited with "Heat" but "Body Rock?" Still, I can understand that it's meant to portray how alive this man was and the scenes from "Thrilla in Manila"...HOLY SHIT!!!

The trailer is put together better than most movies these days and knowing Mann's track record with great trailers and great films, this won't disappoint. But people saying this is a bad movie because of Will Smith and Jamie Fox? Okay, I wanted Fox dead after the MTV music awards (yes, I suck, I watched them) but the man has potential - even if "Any Given Sunday" was a horrible spam pot pie of a film, but that was due to the fact that Stone basically went haywire, which isn't always a bad thing, but in that case, it was. Remember Mark Wahlberg in "Three Kings?" Who could have thought that he'd pull that fucker off, but he did. Why? Because he had a solid script and a great director - which is what this film has.

Oh yeah, you assholes you are literally spearing Mann just so you can piss people off - "Heat" was a genious film about male/female interactions in the extreme and it put two of the most amazing actors alive together and they boiled the coca-cola in the FUCKIN" FOUNTAIN MACHINE IN THE LOBBY! Why? Again, great script, great director. Want more proof? Look at "The Score": three (3, count 'em) great male leads (and Ms. Basset who rules, only if for "Strange Days") and hell, knock off Brando because "Last Tango in Paris" was the last great performance he gave back in the 70s. And what did they film do? I'm telling you, it was about as clunky as though ugly ass platform shoes all these dumbass 14 year old girls wear. Overall, I've rambled - but Mann is a great storyteller and most of the people who dislike him think Fincher is a god - and he's a great visualist but storyteller? hell no.

But this is going to be a great fall and winter so GIVE PRAISE TO LON CHANEY ON THE THRONE...
