MAD MAX 4 Extras casting this month... searching for BDSM types in Sydney, Australia!

Published at:  Oct 05, 2001 10:32:48 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here... Seems George Miller and crew up in Australia are moving forward on MAD MAX 4. Later on this month they will be casting extras for the film at a Bondage and Domination Club called HYBRID in Sydney, Australia. This sounds like he's going for some wild as hell types... And frankly... that's what this film needs again! Sounds like Moriarty would be perfect, he's total leather boy material.

Hi Harry,

Just thought you'd like to know casting (for extras anyway) is underway
for
Mad Max 4 down here in Australia. Seems like the movie may happen sooner
than we think.

They are casting at a nightclub in Sydney called Hybrid on the
20th-21st October between 10pm and 1:30am. The club is a B&D one so you can
see what type of extra they are after.

    um, what about the lead?

Shouldn't they be working on Mel? Or did I miss something?

    Extras seem a bit, unimportant.

    mel may be on board

    by slav

a story on MM4 was posted at Dark Horizons the other day with quotes from the guy who spent a couple of years storyboarding MM4 with George Miller. Beside being a true sequel to MM2, he pretty much mentioned that Mel is very interested in doing the role again. So maybe the casting for extras is underway as he may be on to do it, hence no need to delay production. I personally can't wait.

Extras casting already? Cool. I've only halfway paid attention to the MM4 stuff, thinking it was all mostly wishful thinking. Plus, the young or new Max rumor stuff had me worried. But if Mel's back, I'm back. If he's not, I'm not. But I know I'm paying more attention now.

  • Besides the fact that video games like Twisted Metal Black practically "borrow" the name Mad Max as they pillage the post nuke crazy car driven distopian theme...George Miller has the right to re-invent something he helped start. Too bad Byron Kennedy won't be around to provide the much needed action direction. He was THE man to make Mad Max 2 the classic that it is.
Maybe George will have help this time...and NOT George Ogilvie who directed most of the hum drum bits in Thunderdome. What I would like to see is a decently scrubbed DVD of the original Mad Max with out the shitty dubbed voices. I have a duped Austrailian copy of the first one...and it still kicks ass over Thunderdome. BTW Will Mel even make a cameo in this one?

...MM4 doesn't necessarily need Mel Gibson but it does need the un-PC carnage of the first and second films.
So correct me if I'm wrong but we want violence and lots of it.

I wonder if this new movie will be a true sequel to the Road Warrior does anyone know? Personally I thought RW was the best out of the three movies made hopefully Mel will be back to make this movie as well.

    by archdiver

you should stay away from the HK films in general, or anything that aspires to be like them. You obviously don't get it or appreciate it. And it would be utter insanity to do MM4 without Mel. He made the character what it is.

Is Mel going to play some post-apoc father in this one? Isn't he like 50 years old? Is he going to drive a suped up Dodge Aries? Too many sequels! Only Road Warrior was worth the price of admission. Extras enter, audience leave.

    Sydney, Australia

    by samadhi

Why does everyone in the States keep saying "Sydney, Australia" or "London, England" or "Paris, France"? Isn't it obvious which city is being referred to? Can't Yanks read a map? How many other Sydneys are there anyway?

    holding out some hope...

    by dzieger

As one of the apparently rare individuals who liked 'Thuderdome' best of the 3 films, I'm actually hoping to see some follow up on that storyline, if not a direct sequel. I know, I'm dreaming, and I'm in the minority, and they'll get trashed if they do that. I'm just hoping for some sense of continuity, not a completely new set of characters, settings and themes with the "Mad Max" brand stuck on it.

    Memories...

    by doctor 13

This bring back memories! The first Mad Max was filmed on a lot of back roads in Little River in Victoria. In order to get home from school (I was 12), we had to take these back roads to get to our house. We were often stopped for a while so that the crew could film some chases. We became pretty friendly with the crew, and I was allowed to watch some scenes being filmed, such as Mel's first appearance as Max. My old house (now gone) features in a shot.

Hopefully this new film will return to the high energy of the original.

    by darklon bayne

I vote that Miller and company go in an entirely new direction for Mad Max 4. That's what made the Road Warrior so great, it was so much different than Mad Max, it could stand on it's own without a previous movie. But, it knew how to be original without getting carried away. Now, Beyond Thunderdome failed because it tried to copy too many elements from the Road Warrior but did so poorly. And when it tried to be original by inserting the little kids and the pigs (what's with Miller's pig fetish anyway?)it screwed up even more. I did like the "Two men enter, one man leaves" fight, though.
So for Mad Max 4, lets just go ball-out crazy and give the fans some new stuff.

I think Mel Gibson is already too big for Mad Max

    by hawauer29a

But I personally would not buy it if it's anyone else. and I dont see anyone fitting the leather suit as good as he did. and if they do push through, I want it to be the sequel of Road Warrior Mad Max 2, which still kicks ass even now better than the third. Thats what I want if you ask me.

  • I think George Miller might do wonders, but let me tell you for sure, once the news is out that production is underway, people will want to see screaming MEL GIBSON in bold letters on top of that MM4 title. Not only is the movie going to flop without Mel, they will also destroy the franchise. I understand Mel can't be Mad Max Forver (that's quite a cool title if you think of it), but they could at least insert a subplot for his departure, like he would have a romantic week with a post-apocalyptic blonde (including the hot sex scenes of course), then get killed while the blonde is pregnant. You know what's next.
