DMANN Gives Tonight's DREW CAREY *****!!

I am – Hercules!!

I'm not a regular viewer of "Drew Carey" (it's on opposite "The West Wing," among other things), but tonight's episode: it intrigues me.

Here’s Dmann:

Drew Carey’s Rock & Roll Back To School Special

Reviewed by Dmann

Don’t expect this to be one of the usual Drew Carey Shows, this is a bizzarre episode, featuring Jenny McCarthy, SheDaisy, Sugar Ray, Peter Frampton, SmashMouth, Unkle Kracker, and sketch comedy.

The show starts out telling us this, and then the skits come faster, quicker and with less bullshit than any of the skit com shows on today. Look for Ryan Stiles shop teacher skit, Drew’s PSA about Cooties, and the Bobby The Babysitting Bear cartoon. It's not a Smeigel cartoon, but it's still damn funny!

Stiles and Dedrich Bader also shine in the little skit after SheDaisy plays, doing a riff on the “bad backup dancer” skit from SNL, showing that less really can be more. But more than that, the entire cast just kills! The writing, the acting, all are just hillarious.

The only real thing that keeps this from being perfect is the musical performances. It’s hard to say what is wrong, but they just don’t have the spontenaety of SNL or other live shows. It may just be that they are on tape, in a studio, and that Drew Carey doesn’t have the historical signifigance of SNL. They are good, but I think they could have had a little more of a live feel, rather than a video feel, they could have been great.

I don’t wanna give too much away, but DON’T miss this…tape it while you watch Enterprise, or vice versa, because this is one for the books! It's the best “stunt” episode on the show that has done some of the best stunt episodes ever.
