New Behind The Scenes Documentary Online For ATTACK OF THE CLONES!!!

Published at:  Sep 15, 2001 12:57:23 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here! Well, it is Saturday indeed and it seems that ol George Lucas decided to unwrap a present for all of us over at STARWARS.COM. This time it is a behind the scenes look with Industrial Lights & Magic and in this, you'll see early renders of Watto showing down with our taller, freer and hopefully more badass Anakin... You'll see Obi Wan Kenobi on a cliff face wielding his lightsaber... You will have shivers of cool rippling throughout your body as you see Sam "I AM THE MAN" Jackson sabering through a bank of fog/mist/exhaust... I don't know... Now, can some creative types put Sam's lavender lightsaber blade in place and put in sound effects? If so isolate and send to me, cause I wanna see Sam with his lightsaber ON! And I want to hear that "wuuueueuuurrrr wuuueeeeiiiieeeerrr" as it waves around! Next May is so gonna rock with this and SPIDER-MAN! I hope...

    by brashhulk

Know what I mean? I see a lot of cynicism on George Lucas Talk Backs, but really...."Attack Of The Clones" - big deal, its just a title.... it, in itself, doesn't mean anything. What we're dealing with here in the Star Wars Universe is mythology on a scale that's rarely seen in present-day media. When you look at a great deal of "epic" movies, novels, comics, etc. of the past, there was usually a keen focus on creating something on a grand scale that was dramatic, scary, mystifying, and still FUN. It's rare today to come across a throwback to that time, but George Lucas is trying to channel that energy into today's generations. What's wrong with that? Let the man have his fun and allow him to invite us to be swept up and away into it. Sure, the man is no saint, but hey, who among us is?

The thing looks real damn cool. It might suck, sure, but so could any movie coming out. And lest we forget, George DID make or oversee the three best sci-fi movies of all time before fumbling away the fourth. I doubt he'll even come close to the originals, but he should be back in the same ballpark by the time this mofo comes together.

if you let the movie file load fully but make sure before it has fully loaded you have empited your temporary internet files. the file will appear in the temporary internet files folder and you can move it to another directory and mes around with it to your hearts content. the larger version of the file is about 22mb not sure about the small one. Hope this helps.

Ok ok lets put it this way... Star Wars is not perfect!

    by rated-r

Don't expect perfectionism on these movies or you will be greatly dissapionted. Phantom Menace was a good but with flaws, thats all. I know that we all expected something greater than Empire but thanks to all the hype it didn't meet our expectations. I blame George Lucas for not keeping up with his craft, Direction. He was very rusty and took on too much work by directing, writing and helping in the design process to produce somthing great. Sure Phantom Menace was a special effects marvel but it lacked in many other area's in my opinion. Jarjar for one was a awesome creation in that he was completly created in the computer as a supporting character but it was his dialog and his childish cartoonish personality that annoyed everyone. The direction of the actors was poorly exectuted but at least the action sequences were well done. The Pacing of the movies was not meshing with the score. I heard rumors that John Williams score was actually chopped in parts because of Lucas's editing and that really got me pissed. The Dialog was kind of basic but we all know that Star Wars was not great in that department judging from the rest of the series. Anyways those are the flaws that I myself was affected by but like I said it is still a good movie in my opinion and when the DVD comes out I will march my self down to Best Buy and will be very excited to purchase one. George Lucas hired an extra hand to help him polished the AOTC script which in my opinion show's that he's aware of the problems of the last film and is doing something to improve it. His experiance with the last film will also help greatly. Here's hoping that Lucas gives us a great Star Wars movie but I for one will not be expecting perfectionism. Btw the way, Mace Windu looks kick ass swinging that lightsaber, yesss! :D

    by samwave

And here I'd gone and given up hope for a new one. One question though... When the actors are interacting with a CGI character -for example Watto - do they use animatics during the shoot? Or do the actors have to just suppose where the characters will be? Couldn't they do this with the new digital displays, and automatically see a rough version of the shot?

    For ManOwaR and others....

    by boromir

    "Joe Bob's America" for 9/1/96
    By Joe Bob Briggs
Every time a bomb goes off somewhere, we trot out this word "cowardice."
In fact, it's about the ONLY time anybody uses the word "coward" anymore.
The president says, "We will not rest until we have found the cowards who did
    this."
Time magazine's Olympics cover says, "Courage and Cowardice." The news
conferences on Long Island after TWA Flight 800 went down would always start
out, "The COWARDS who did this..."
But what I wanna know is...what are we getting at here? Are we saying that all
    acts of terrorism are cowardly?
What about the guy who strapped explosives to himself and drove the bomb truck
into the U.S. Marine compound in Beirut? He might have been CRAZY, but he wasn't
a coward. The night before, the man had ATTENDED HIS OWN FUNERAL.
Actually, people who go around detonating bombs are mostly NOT cowards, because
they can blow themselves up at any moment.
If you talk to cops on the bomb squad, or military guys who specialize in
blowing stuff up, they have this constant fear that they've set a timer wrong,
or that they've miscalculated the amount of explosives needed.
They all have friends who have lost hands or arms or legs. I really think the
reason people use the word "coward" is that they don't believe in guerrilla war,
    which is what this is.
They want all the Looney Toon political groups in the world to declare their
intentions, show up on the Washington Mall with rifles and shoot it out with the
    Army.
If they had enough guys to do that, THEY WOULD. I'm sure they wouldn't hesitate
one minute to engage in open warfare with us if they thought they had a
    snowball's chance in hell.
But they know they'd be wasted to the last man. The only way they know to fight
is secretly, by ambush, using dead innocent civilians to create chaos.
But they're not cowards. You can read the transcript of the trial of the guys
arrested for the bombing of the World Trade Center and see that most of them
    would die for their cause.
    They're soldiers.
If we keep calling 'em cowards, then we're gonna underestimate 'em. We're gonna
treat 'em like some kind of weird, half-crazed criminals who we need to catch
and lock up so the world will be safe.
If we regard them as soldiers, on the other hand, we can get busy wiping 'em
out. We might even authorize the CIA to use assassination to do it.
If they're gonna wage a secret war, then we should be waging a secret war right
    back.
But don't call 'em cowards. Call 'em what they are: The enemy.
You know what you do to the enemy?
    You annihilate him.

    by huneybee

It was a sad cry for attention, Rentboi. After checking the tb where you started fighting with Comedian and uncapie, I can see that you have merely moved the flame war to a new arena. Why? Didn't you think your comments would be as witty on the old tb? No one could appreciate how you sling mud because the old tb had dropped off the board? You don't want to argue a point; you want attention. Sad, very sad. You should learn to not be so obvious if you want to impress people.____ An Unimpressed Bee

Ep 2 and this coward buisiness....

    by darth ranik

Well, I am going to leave my judgement of Ep2 on the back burner until I see the movie. Back in April of '99 I would have told you there was no way in hell the Ep1 could be anything but the most awsome thing to ever grace the silver screen. I mean from the look of things up to that point how could it not be the greatest? So, with the knowledge of hindsight I will wait to cast judgement on Ep2, although I am excited to see it, and the info I have seen so far looks promising. Boromir, I will tell you why Terrorism is cowardly: they target the innocent, women and children, the old and the feeble. They attack those that cannot protect themselves. Just because they are not afraid to die, does not mean they are not cowards. It means they have a total lack of respect for human life and hold no life sacred. They feel the deaths of the men, women and children of America will get them into heaven. They arn't brave they are mental cases.
Bravery by its very definition is overcoming fear to do a great deed. There can be no courage without fear, and this is what they lack. These people have been brainwashed since they were kids to give up thier lives for the cause. Problem is the people who define thier cause are insane fuck ups like bin Laden. He has an army that will die at his request. He has an army of fanatics, and he maintains his power by using religion as a justification. What all these dumb fuckers should be asking themselves is this: If I go straight to heaven for this kind of act, and if I am so brave for commiting this kind of act, and if my faith demands that I commit this kind of act......why wasn't that chicken shit fuck face Osama bin Laden flying one of those fucking planes? If he is so brave and his cause is so rightious why doesn't he die for it? Why hasn't he been behind the wheel of a truck bomb or strapped TNT to his ass in some fucking cafe somewhere? Because he is a fucking coward, and he is not insane. He has sheep that do his dirty work for him and keep him in his position of power. They are cowards.

    Attack of Diminishing Returns

    by spacesheik

I went wild when I saw THE PHANTOM MENACE trailer in the theatre. I thought the movie would kick ass. Instead I got an infantile, tedious "adventure" about 2 guys trying to get spare parts for their spaceship, with a cameo appearance by a villain, and much too much CGI. That movie left such bad taste in my mouth that nothing about ATTACK OF THE CLONES, stuff that usually would excite me (Sam Jackson, Christopher Lee, a script by someone other than George Lucas) do not. Sorry, Harry, I just don't find this news interesting.

    by orpheus

How cool it is to be a SW fan right now for those of us who loved the Phantom Menace? How much better can this shit get? Quicktime took a painful long time, but it was worth it. As for the bombings, well, Uncle George has been trying to steer the world straight for a long time. "Your focus determines your reality." "Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering." "You and the Naboo form a symbiont cirle. What happens to one of you will affect the other ... you must understand this." If the world had spent more time thinking about the ideas behind TPM and less time whining about Jar Jar, you wouldn't have nuts flying airliners into the sides of buildings. What was that Joseph Campbell use to say about societies that don't honor their myths?

    There once was a time...

    by dain818

There once was a time long ago when I believed good would triumph over evil. A time when a young man from Modesto, California wanted to make movies that touched people's hearts and made us see that humanity shared a collective soul.

This is no longer the case. I have seen too much.

On Sept. 11, 2001 the day began with bodies falling from black towers and ended with almost 5000 people dead.

I wish that boy from Modesto was still making movies he cared about. I wish I had my innocence back. I wish that good would always triumph over evil.

    I wish.

this war can last for years. The Soviet Union lost at Afganistan. Also, most of the pakistanian people feel afganistanian as brothers in blood. That goes also for Iran and Iraq. What is worse, India can take profit of the situation and launch an attack over Pakistan. Even worse... an allied attack to Afganistan can also launch islamic revolution in such countries as Egypt, Algeria, Morrocco, Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon... this could easily turn into a crusade. Talking about geography, it is almost impossible to kill Ben Laden without invading Afganistan... and that will cost thousands of allies lives. Don't you ever doubt about it.

I know Hardball and the Glass House came out, and I planned on checking them both out, but I wasn't exactly too keen on going into a packed theatre so soon after Tuesday, man. Anybody who saw either one, what did you think? Also, it's doubtful we're just going to go in and start bombing anyplace. Most likely the various countries will be given an ultimatum to hand over whoever they're harboring that is deemed responsible. Refusal to do so will be the reason the U.S. starts the drop.

    by sausage mahoney

You know, when I went and saw Episode 1 I wasn't expecting The Bible Part 2. I went, I enjoyed it, Jar Jar wasn't really that bad, and there were some cool fight scenes and some cool special fx. I didn't think the story sucked or was subpar and I didn't think that about the acting either because after all, have you seen the first movie? It was kind of campy, which is what was fun about it. Did you care? No, that was the fun part. The only thing that made it a little less for me than the original series was that the energy wasn't as high as it was. That's it. Other than that, it was fun. This next one looks pretty good. That's pretty much all I've got to say. I just didn't understand the scathingly awful reviews of Episode 1 and the "it's-going-to-suck" mindset behind Episode 2 when I don't really think anybody has a firm grasp on any big details of the movie so i haven't figured out why it's shit yet. Who know?

    by lobanhaki

You can thank that for much of the photorealism of todays effects. What they do is take a map off of the reflection and use that to light the elements in the scene. Because this reading is... A) of the messy sort of lighting pattern that real world objects are illuminated by and B) often has much better dynamic range (that is, levels of contrast) than the perfect geometric lights of most 3-D animation programs, they provide an appearance of realism in the object that is truly photo- realistic. I suggest you all go to www.debevec.org, and view the animations there. You will be amazed.

I hated the teaser trailer. Hated it. But the second trailer? First time I've ever clapped after a trailer. Not only did I like the film, I liked it better than Episode IV. That film is laughbly bad. I did like it as a kid, but I'm not a kid anymore. Episode II? It looks about three times better than Episode I already, I can't wait! I'm pretty cynical, but I'm not writing Lucas off, yet. P.S. To those of you complaining about Lucas releasing this so soon after the attacks, I couldn't think of anything better to detract from the horror of Sept. 11Th. I fucking cried for three days straight. Everytime a story about the attack came on, I wept. I want to see the deaths of innocents avoided as much as possible, but they didn't care, and neither should we. NECESSARY EVIL! It makes the world go 'round.
