W.T.C. to be Digitally Removed From SPIDER-MAN

Hey folks, Harry here... SpidermanHype.Com has found up from Sony that the company is working on a new teaser and poster campaign without the World Trade Center that should be coming soon, with another trailer due to be out this Christmas. In Addition:

Sony will also use computer technology to remove images of the World Trade Center from the final movie in respect to the tragic events.

Well, as I feared they're going to remove the W.T.C from the final film... I kinda knew in my heart that they were going to do this, but there was a part of me that just wanted to see them in the film... I just felt that it would be a beautiful impression to have of the buildings, but I understand how so many would only see pain in their image... I suppose it is for the best. The rampant rumors that SONY is going to cancel SPIDER-MAN that are coming from the UK press are false, but there is additional production to facillitate changes due to recent events.

as much as i agree that it should be in the film, you couldn't help but see this coming. would have been nice to see the webslinger alongside them though for one last time.

Personally I think they should keep the towers in, just to prove to all that there is hope, that even though tragic event's happen in real life, in the world of movies and comics, we can live in the life that is, if not perfect, then at least a good fantasy world, where if someone tried to fly a plane into the side of a building a superhero would be there to stop it, a world where everybody of a sane mind can say " hey we've seen what you have tried to do, but we can ignore it for the duration of this movie, and enjoy the sight of life, as if you were never there" Let the Spiderman movie be a tribute to the people who have died so unfairly and needlessly.

What do they expect to accomplish by removing them from the film ??

    by Stalker

Are we going to go trough all films and remove the WTC?? 10 years from now I want to watch a movie with my kids and say "see those two buildings there? evil took them from us and we paid them back" I wanted to sit in the theater and watch spidey slinging though the towers and think of a day before war, a day when peace was ours. Now no remeberance, no nothing, just a gaping hole in the skyline. Just like the hole Americas have in our hearts. God bless the USA. Give blood, pray, join the military. Remember the dead.

    World Trade Center

    by KnightsaberPriss

In a way I kind of wish they wouldn't edit the WTC out. It's been such a landmark in New York City for the longest time. I feel like if we don't acknowledge it's exhistence inour media then we are letting ourselves be ruled by the tyranny these murderous individuals wanted to instill into the American people. I just know that once the rubble is cleared away they will rebuild those structures as a symbol to all terrorists that they cannot keep us down. That they cannot destroy the symbolic greatness of America itself.

    Come on people

    by Norman Osborn

I totally support Sony doing this. Of course they shouldn't go back and alter movies that are already of the past. But come on. If they kept the towers in, no one next summer would be "Dreaming of a time before this happened" or some such. Indeed, in every shot that included the towers, we would all simply be focusing on them and the horror that actually happened there. No one would be able to enjoy the movie. Hell, just cause it takes place in New York and has scenes of people being attacked, it's gonna be a little rough... and this is coming from someone who has been reading and loving Spider-Man comics since 1983 (oh yeah... my screen name). I still look forward to seeing the movie, but this tragedy is too huge for Sony to keep something in that would so profoundly bring it up in what is after all, a fantasy, escapist film.

the WTC should represent America's survival

    by LaBallatician

So, the WTC is going to be digitally removied from SpiderMan, Friends, etc...why are we acting like it didnt exist? We need these images to remind us of those people who lost their lives. By getting rid of them we are trying to hide from what has happened. Let these images remain, as a symbol of how America will survive this. We are much stronger than what seems to be thought.

  • Sept. 13, 2001, 4:58 p.m. CST

I totally agree with removing them.

    by AttackingClone

If i saw spiderman with the WTC buildings in the background it would make my heart sink again. Like many people i will never get over this, and i live in Aust. It is the most tragic thing i have ever seen and whenever i see a picture of the WTC i will remember the night (for us) of Tuesday 11th September. I agree that they would have looked very beautiful in Spidey and was looking forward to seeing them, however since this atrocity i do not want to see them, or any other similarly themed films anytime soon.

  • Sept. 13, 2001, 5 p.m. CST

    by Lethargic

If people see the WTC in Spiderman they're going to remember all this and feel the pain? What's the difference? If you see NY in Spiderman WITHOUT the WTC, you're going to remember it too. It's not going to make a single difference. If anything, taking it out like this will focus even more attention on it when the movie opens. Of course if Spiderman looks the way he does in the trailer, the movie's gonna suck anyway so who cares?

  • Sept. 13, 2001, 5:08 p.m. CST

What is the right thing to do?

    by 007-11

If I remember correctly in the first trailer for Spiderman the web that caught the thieves was in between the Towers. I wonder what will happen to the episode of the Simpsons when Homer goes to New York. The Towers were in that episode for a large amount of time. Will it be taken out of circulation? What about the flash scenes in NYPD Blue where they show the scenery? There has to have been a shot of the Towers in there somewhere. I can't decide whether completely removing the Towers from all these scattered places will help the problem or just be an insult to the memory of them and the people. I haven't been able to really focus my thoughts for days now. I'm sure many other people can share that sentiment. I think instead of automatically removing them they might want to have an online vote to see what the public thinks. I'm from Texas and have never been to New York. I can't completely empathize with the tragic loss New York has sustained but I can understand that if the Towers appear in the movie it might just be too much for the New York audience. I just don't know. All I really do know now is that we must never forget, and that these attacks on the muslim citizens of America must cease. There are 2 muslim girls that attend my school that haven't been there since Tuesday. I hate that they must live in fear and feel that they have to remove themselves from the American populus instead of being able to stand up and be counted as outraged, loyal citizens of this country who deplore everything that has happened as much as any christian or jew. In oreder to present a truly united front we must not show hatred toward these innocents, they are just as much victims as we are damn it. I've spent the better part of these past 3 days expalaining the situation to people, and making sure that everyone understands this is not a conspiracy between all of the people of the muslim faith. I pray that all Americans can come to this understanding. I hope the first trailer is still available so I can download and save it to my computer so i'll forever have the image of the Towers stopping those who would do evil, standing tall and strong. Remember the Twin Towers, God bless America

    Harry's right

    by Aurelfell

Think about he people who lost friends and family members. The Spider-man is about entertaining people, making them feel good. Its not about reminding them of pain and suffering. The Manhattan skyline might not look right in the movie, but it doesn't look right in the real world either.

    by Flim

You know, I was very very sad to see Matthau go, and seeing him in a movie, even a cameo, might make me remember him. I believe that we must digitally remove him from all movies, past, present and future. I miss him. Removing the WTC from movies that have nothing directly to do with this tragic circumstance is like going through your house after a family member dies, and removing their pictures from the mantle.

  • Sept. 13, 2001, 5:33 p.m. CST

    That is so sad

    by Sharrow-likey

I knew they would pull the trailer, but I had thought that buy the time Spider-man had come out in May, people could look at the WTC towers and see them for what they are. Which is a tribute the the people who worked there and for the emeregency service workers who gave their lives to save others. I don't think the WTC towers should be removed from the films, it feels like the terrorists have Succeeded once again. The WTC were a phenominal achievement and symbolise everything that America is (good and bad). By the time Spider-man comes out, people will have started to become accustomed to the new skyline in New York, but a character like Spider-man should inspire hope, in Spidey's reality the towers would still exist. It would be nice to see Spidey saving the world in a New York where the terrorists didn't get their way. Stupid idealistic rambling, I know, but I think I have seen WAY too much reality over the last few days.

    This is childish

    by Cooldude 2001

Instead of dealing with our loss like adults and remembering a landmark for what it was, a landmark, we instead are suppose to avert our eyes and pretend it never existed in the first place. Simply delaying the opening of the movie would have been an appropriate action. This strikes me as a boderline anti-american gesture.

    Maybe I spoke too soon

    by Aurelfell

Right after my above post, I read this article. I don't know who wrote it, but they make a very good point: Spider-man takes place in a comic book universe, and this would never have happened in a comic book. If anyone from any of the comic publishers is reading this, you should write a story where someone attempts to hijack another plane, only to discover that they've fallen victim to a sting operation, and everyone else on the plane, pilots, attendents, crew, passengers, everybody is an undercover superhero. We will see justice served in the real world, but I'd like to see some revenge in the fictional world as well. Any ideas expressed in this post are public domain, free to be developed, explored, and lived in the imaginations of all.

    by eraser_x

of her dead husband. That would be condescending and insulting to her and to the memory of the dead husband. No, if his name comes up, it comes up, and the widow will appreciate the fact that the husband hasn't been forgotten. In fact, you can take the opportunity to tell the widow how much her husband meant to you. What the fuck is wrong with America, today? No one knows how to behave anymore. Everyone wants to show how much they "care", but every other such self-conscious display is shallow and condescending. Shit, I hate well-meaning goofy actions almost as much as ill-intentioned actions.

  • Really, we do not know whether any of those people donated money or are helping out since, in the grand scheme of things, it is unimportant news who is giving what. Whether it's a real estate tycoon nobody has ever heard of or John Travolta, it would be unfair to expect the news to televise the names of every person contributing only vast sums of money. Besides the fact that they are far too busy reporting information and the latest news from the city, a person of small means donating time or some socks or medicine is just as important as someone dontaing a million dollars.

    by Prometeo

I've been reading all kind of post, talkbackers all over this site.... First of all, I have to agree how deeply, deeply terrified this whole thing was, and still is. Those image from tuesday will live in everyone's memory for one life or two... But let me tell you all a history. I'm from Chile, I was born and live here. September 11 was allready a tragic date here 27 years before. In 1973 a Coup d'etat overthrown Salvador Allende, and started the 17 years long Augusto Pinochet's dictatorship. All those years we lived in fear, under the boot of the worst kind of terrorism: The State Terrorism. What I see in the news, hearing your president talking over and over about war... I was hoping to hear the word "Justice", but alll i'm hearing is "Payback", "Revenge". How can you "carry the torch of liberty and Freedom" if you answer to force with force, to violence with even more violence. We, in my country, are still suffering from deep scars due to what we suffered. I just can't start imagining how long yours will last. But bare this in mind: the guys that did this where nuts religious fundamentalists. they were crazy, and they did what crazy people do. Your country can't accept getting crazy, and cant do the same, that would be what we suffered for: State Terrorism, the one you cannot fight... the one that crushes you. Seek justice, not revenge... then all those poor souls will trully be resting in peace. Blood does not washes with more blood. Thanks. My condolences to you all... (and please, forgive any misspellingor grammatical error. I'm doing my best ^_~)

    Change 'em

    by Lampbane

Leaving them in would probably cast a shadow over the movie in the minds of many movie-goers. Taking them out is insulting to New Yorkers in that it seems to be a way of simply "forgetting" they were ever there. So I say change 'em. Design new buildings and put them there, like we've already rebuilt the area. That would be the ultimate sign of respect: the sign of hope.

    I think this is pathetic

    by Vinkie

Columbia Tri-Star might as well send a bouquet to the terrorists- by removing the images of the WTC, they are handing a de-facto victory to the terrorists who did this terrible act. We should stand proud and allow what may be the last high-quality 35mm moving images of those great Towers to be seen in SPIDERMAN. I do agree with pulling the trailers with images now in light of the proximity of the disaster, but to forever alter the images of this movie is giving in to the forces that have tried to break us. If Columbia Tri-Star really wanted to do something to help, they coulc take the money they were going to use in this ill-conceived effort to make SPIDERMAN "inoffensive" and donate it to the relief effort. As it stands, they are going to make digital artists erase those great Towers from the film... a terrible and wrongheaded, even cowardly decision. Man, can you imagine being the digital artist given the task of removing the towers from that footage? I'm sorry, this is a terrible idea and Columbia Tri-Star should seriously rethink this and do the right thing- let the Manhattan skyline as it once was and WILL BE AGAIN when the Towers are rebuilt be seen!!! SK909, I was fighting the Malibu fire in '93 and I never saw any

    by Uncapie

The Malibu fire was bad, but its nothing compared to the devastation of New York. Mr. Colbert, his son-in-law and myself with three other fire fighters on loan from Stockton, California(They had divisions from all over the state that's how bad it was.) fought the fires from 3:00 PM in the afternoon until 8:00 AM the next morning. The flames came within 500 feet of us and we had a last ditch contingency plan to hit the beach and swim out to the fire boats if the fire jumped the break that's how close it came. We were lucky. In the morning, we then got what juices, water and food was in the fridge and went around feeding what other firefighters and Malibu sheriff's we could find. Mr. Colbert was the only one I saw do this and this was in Malibu where there's a lot of "movie stars." I wish I was in New York right now. Those men and women are busting their asses off tenfold to save lives and they need as much medical, fire, police, construction and ems personel as they can get. Gates, Jobs and Woz have the money and power to do this. Same thing with the prima donna movie stars. Get clearance from the military, charter a jet(Or fly your own Travolta.) get those supplies and people out there that can help.

I just hope the shots the took are on the DVD, because I cannot think of another movie where the Twin Towers are more in their glory as they should be. Good-bye old friend.

    by Varakor

I disagree with the removal of thw WTC from spider-man. To me the towers represented something beautiful, something wonderful. Two shining, gleaming towers that met me as i awoke, and guided me from a hard days work. From my window there they were, and most of the NY skyline. Now, there will be something missing from that view, something sorely missed. I don't need to see spider-man to be reminded of the pain, All i have to do is look out my window and see what will be missing from my daily life. I looked forward to seeing the towers in their FULL glory, standing tall and proud in the spider-man film or ANY film for that matter because having them there won't change the fact that they are gone, that love ones are gone. Everyday we are bombarded with the same images over and over of the second plane crashing into the tower and then their fall. removing these landmarks from the film is not how we should remember a huge part of NY, and it is not how we should remember the people who were loss. We have to remember the beauty, the lively activity of people going about their daily lives contained within, and the many people from all across the world who passed through them. Taking the towers away won't cause us to remember, because for those of us who live close by or in the sights of NY, we will remember when when we look to the skyline and see what's missing and remember....Butto see them stand tall and at their fullest glory in a film, now that will be a true testement and the best way to remember. Spidey represents something positive, so did the WTC. we should not seperate the two because they belong together. And i hope sony reconsiders this before they make a huge mistake. now if u will excuse me i have a candle to light as i once again say good bye to an old friend, and say a prayer for the victims and their families. Tervalk, signing out

  • By taking the towers away, you attack the victims and whoever else knew the towers. When the films show in theaters, what are viewers going to do? Remember back on 9-11-01 that the Towers of world commerce are destroyed, that's what. Screw you $$hungry idiots who don't know how to do things. You raped those who need to be remembered for what they died for: Freedom. I say we should see the towers in all their glory in films made before this happened. And I also suggest that no film show that area on screen until new towers are built. Peace.

No matter what skyline movie it is. It will create a sombre mood. To some it may be offensive, others it may be a tribute, but it will be a sad moment of memories. Importantly though viewers should understand the reason for it remaining or being pulled, whatever. You've got your views and have expressed them. The companies have there views and also expressed it. It may differ from your point of view, but you should atleast respect and work together to understand the tragedy. A movie such as spiderman is difficult to comprehend. The sole theme of it was to see someone swinging across a city in a grand form of escapism. There is no denying for years to come, any movie with related themes will give rise to anger or sorrow. Like every detail in a movie is painstakingly scrutinised for errors (don't try and nitpick to just prove wrong), the decisions that are made will surely have been thought out honestly. My userstuff in spidey hype has been cancelled, but if you feel my words mean anything please post it there for me. Thank you.

Looking over a list of names of people we'd admitted at the Hospital and telling about 15 separate groups of crying family members that their loved ones weren't on the list. Standing over trampling victims(because the building on Liberty about to collapse and there was yet another stampede of frightened people fleeing for their lives)with a clipboard asking them if they have anyone(friend or relative)who can be contacted(Not that we could call anyone since ALL THE PHONE LINES ARE STILL DEAD). A whole wall in the ER waiting room is covered with pictures of people with their families and the words "missing worked on the 97th floor of Tower II" written on them. Today I saw the cops bring in this contruction worker whose legs had to be cut off. I also saw them bring in a guy in handcuffs because HE WAS POKING AROUND THE RUBBLE TRYING TO ROB THE CORPSES AND HE HAD AN ASTHMA ATTACK WHEN THEY STARTED CHASING HIM. The air is so think with soot that if you breath it for more than a few minutes you start coughing. And after over 16 hours of volunteering at the one Hospital that's literally a 4 block walk from ground zero I come to this site and YOU FAGGOTS ARE BITCHING AND DEBATING ON WHETHER OR NOT THEY SHOULD KEEP THE TOWERS IN SPIDERMAN!?!?!YOU IDIOTS NEED TO WAKE THE FUCK UP. ARE YOU INSANE?!?!HOW DARE YOU EVEN THINK OF COMPARING SONY CUTTING A FEW SHOTS OUT OF SPIDERMAN WITH THE SLAUGHTER OF TENS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE?!?! THAT'S WHAT YOU PANTY WAISTS DON'T GET. The Towers where just another place of work to most New Yorkers they were just two buildings. WE ARE NOT IN NATIONAL MOURNING BECAUSE TWO STUPID BUILDINGS WHERE KNOCKED DOWN. WE'RE MOURNING BECAUSE BY THE END OF THIS WELL OVER TENS THOUSAND OF OUR WIVES, CHILDREN, MOTHERS AND FATHERS WILL HAVE BEEN SNUFFED OUT IN AN INSANELY SENSELESS ACT. AND YOU GUTLESS, LITTLE PUNKS ARE BITCHING BECAUSE YOU WONT GET TO SEE SPIDEY SWING THROUGH THE TOWERS! THAT SCENE ISN'T EVEN PART OF THE FINISHED MOVIE YOU MORONS! I think my real point is that the last thing most people should care about right now is the Entertainment industry and of course every movie and TV show that comes out after this whether set in New York or not will have to deal with the attack in someway. I wouldn't be suprised if most of the fall shows shoot new pilots especially since most of the Must Puke TV shows are set in NYC. Even a show like Buffy would have to do an episode dealing with the attack BECAUSE THIS REAL LIFE EVENT IS A BILLION TIMES MORE TRAGIC AND COMPELLING THAN ANY APOCALYPTIC BIG BAD. THAT STUFF IS ALL MAKE BELIEVE FOR LITTLE KIDS IN MY EYES NOW. THIS IS REAL LIFE WE'RE DEALING WITH RIGHT HERE AND NOW. COME ON, YOU IDIOTS! WE MIGHT BE IN WORLD WAR III WITHIN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS AND YOU'RE BITCHING ABOUT SPIDERMAN?!?! I'm sure there will eventually be a time when people (myslef included)will want to escape and be entertained but I don't see that happening for a long while. Maybe in the rest of the country where you hicks only know the New York of your fantasies. But not here.

You Assholes Really Take The Fucking Cake, You Know That?

    by Cowblaster

I am getting so sick of people bitching that Sony and the rest of Hollywood production companies are "giving into terrorism." That's BULLSHIT! Let me tell you something; those terrorists weren't out to make Hollywood suffer by making them remove any refferences to those towers. They were out to cripple us as a nation, and give notice to their cause. Having them digitally remove two towers from the Spider-Man movie hardly qualifies, folks. Normally, I think Hollywood editing itself to cater to current events is crap, but in this case, I AGREE with Sony on this one. They're making the right choice. Sony doesn't want people to see those towers in their movie because it will destract the audience from the film. Simple as that. In no way does this hurt the United States, nor does it tell the terrorists that they've done their job. It's merely CONSIDERATION for what's happened. But, if that's the worst thing in the world for you, then you need to seriously re-evaluate your priorities.

I can't help but think about the Thought Police on this one. If we deny the existence of a thing, then it never existed. Sad, it would have been nice to have seen the web slinger swinging between those buildings, they did exist, you know. Perhaps someone should inform the powers that be at Sony that even small victories are victories none-the-less. Cheers, ??Pseudo??

. . . No one is trying to deny that the towers ever existed. It's not like Hollywood is going back to ALL their movies in the past and removing all references to those towers. They're just removing the upcomming ones. Hell, they'll probably still have the towers in future movies, and even make a movie about this incident. Relax.

    Tough call

    by Cajun Lightning

I watched a segment on the news today reporting all the films and television shows that would be delayed and altered and I really didn't know how to feel. I totally understand their point on one hand. It would be incredibly distracting and to someone who lost someone it could bring a lot of pain. On the other hand, it's kind of condescending too. The towers did exist and I am sure they will exist again. New York is truly a city with their shit together and I'm sure plans to rebuild will fly through on principle. The towers themselves are not lost forever, just the lives of those who worked there. And I think on some level, removing the towers is an insult to their memory. I saw the footage of Spiderman for the first time during that news segment and it really was beautiful. I've been staring at the skyline all my life from Jersey, and the footage made me realize how much the towers actually did mean to me. It made me happy to see them. But I suppose its just me. Regardless, we all saw this coming. I just hope this does not get out of hand. One other talkbacker hit the nail on the head with a reference to the Thought Police. Strange times we live in.

"Buhuh, World Trade Center blew up"...Well yes, it's one of the worst tragedies ever and I sincerely morn over all the people who died that day but listen to yourself: so many disastrous things have happened before, maybe bot as big but still including thousands of lost lives but are you sorry for them? Hell no, because they're not Americans and Americans are much more worth than anyone else. Open your eyes! And why are you so keen on revenge instead of trying to settle this peacefully. If that doesn't work THEN use force, but not before you have tried in another way. Don't think it will solve anything using weapons! Hear my last words: YOU voted for Bush, YOU asked for it!

    About this whole thing...

    by CoolDan989

I'm personally happy just as long as they don't cancel the movie, because the fact that it's in New York in the first place seemed like reason enough. I'm just glad I downloaded the old teaser before it was yanked so I can see the World Trade Center in all its glory before it was blown to smitheerens. What I think is that they should include the old teaser as an easter egg on the DVD, which would please Spider-Man fans, and would make it unlikely families of victims of the bombing will find it. I'll put it in my shared folder for all you Morpheus users if you want a copy, although I'm pretty sure a lot of users already have a copy up there.

Spiderman - Editing is the RIGHT thing to do

    by Mr Pumblechook

Some of the stills, and action of spidey in between the WTC looked fantastic. But the simple, horrible, fact is that the new movie has been written and directed to be an up-to-date and PRESENT-DAY version of Spiderman. If in the year 2002 people are at the cinema and see spidey swinging between the the two towers it immediately sets the movie's time line as in the past. and if you did go to the movie for a bit of escapism, and entertainment and you saw the WTC, it would be a reminder of the terrible events when you are out for a bit of fun. Is it so sad that the footage will be missing? -be realistic there are many families affected by tuesdays events that are going through far worst. besides, the edited out shots will likely be on DVD GOD bless you all

    by Blanket-Man

They should have a non-WTC version ready to go, but of course keep the current version available, so they can get a better feel of things once 2002 is actually here. A LOT could happen between now and May 3... BTW, comparing this situation with "Spider-Man" to making a movie about Pearl Harbor is ludicrous: PH was SIXTY YEARS AGO! I'm fairly certain that if "Spider-Man" included shots of the WTC and was being released in 2061, no one would complain either way. But it will only be 8 months... Just wait and see what happens, Sony...

    Spidey and the WTC

    by Thor

Harry, Just read on the site about the removal of the WTC from the upcoming spidey film, and while i understand peoples reactions and the powerful image the WTC portrayed which will only rekindle momories of sorrow and grief, i belive that sony should leave the towers in the film for it's release next year, now i don't want anyone gasping and asking how i can say that, as i just said the towers were a defining point to the skyline of NYC, and having friends who live there and having come back from a holiday to NYC 2 months ago, i too was one of those frantic people who couldn't belive what they were seeing on the Tv screens and who were trying and trying to get through to friends and loved ones in the city. I, thankfuly, am one of the lucky ones and my heart goes out to those not as fortunate as me who have lost their loved ones, for i know there are many. My point is that i think that sony should dedicate the film to the vitims of this terrible disaster, and ask the audience to remeber those innocents who lost their lives and the emergency services who risked and lost their lives and to include the WTC as a tribute to them. We cannot remove that skyline from our memories, anymore that we can erase the events that unfolded on that day and ever since, but we need not forget such a wonderful building and by doing so we remember those now gone from us. I'm unsure as to peoples reactions to this and if posted hope that people will understand where i am coming from, i have no intention of inflicting more pain on those already coming to terms what what has happend, but if i see spidey with or without the WTC in it, it will still bring back memories of what has happened, possible more so if they are not there as i will feel as though they are trying to hide what has happened. Also what is to become of those building in the area that have been affected and may need to be demolished to make the area safe. will these too be removed from the film? My thoughts and prayers to those victims and their friends and families Thor_sonofodin

    by brett_story

Are we to forget the spirit that the twin towers represented and forget they ever existed? To me this dishonors the memory of the people who lost their lives in this disaster by sweeping it under the rug as if it never happened. We need to see these landmarks in our movies so that we will never forget and will always remember a happier time before this tragedy.

    Imagine No Religion

    by Regicidal_Maniac

As an atheist I have no interest in religion, or in "my imaginary friend is better than your imaginary friend"discussions whatsoever. "God is on my side" "Allah is on my side" blah, blah, blah... Zealots all. The actions of 11/09/01 have, as I'm sure they would most reasoned and compassionate humans, horrified and sickened me. The senseless loss of life, the pain, the terror. How anyone could claim that what happened this week was justified, I don't know. At various stages I've had friends working in and visiting those towers, they may have been there on Tuesday, I don't know. I know this. The insane world has declared war on the sane world. It's scary but we may be witnessing the beginnings of World War Three. Think about what events pushed the world to the brink and over in the past; The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand and his wife Sophie = WW1. Hitler dares trespass into Poland = WW2. This is worse, much worse. Whoever decided to bring their ridiculous Jihad to American soil thus taking on the military might of America and thereby the entire civilised and sane world, let alone while the idiot son of Bush is in office, is out of their skulls. I sincerely hope there are as many people between that dolt and 'the button' as I suspect there are or we're all screwed. I'll admit it's easy to think "let's nuke the bastards" or "just glass the whole fucking region" as I've been reading on the net, in the papers and on TV screens these last few days. I can't say the same thoughts haven't passed through my mind as I watched office workers plunge, two, three at a time, one hundred stories to their deaths after making the hardest decision of their untimely ended lives, be burnt alive or die (relatively) quickly and painlessly. These extreme reactions to terror are human reactions guided by human emotions. They are what makes us who we are. Without them is would indeed be a cold and terrifying little blue dot we live on. But these reactions are not what we want and expect from our leaders. Yes we want swift justice, but how? Yes we want revenge, but against whom? We can't allow the media or the Governments to whip us up into unfocused frenzy of misdirected, murderous rage, lest we become like those we criticise and despise. The problem is that this is an unfightable war. We don't understand the mentality of someone who is willing to die for what they believe in and the truth is there is no way to fight that. It's a war of ideologies and you can't destroy an ideology with all the nuclear weapons in existence. It takes something more powerful, education and understanding. We all know the problem. It is wrapped up in the the fear of the unknown. We (all sides) hate what we can't understand, and we destroy that which we hate. The problem for us in the Western world is the fact that it is precisely THAT no-one gives a shit exactly which group people we could care less about, owned exactly which bit of sand covered, bullet-torn beige buildings in exactly which far away area not many could say. This is what infuriates these people. They can't understand how we just don't care what they live through every day. But the truth is we just don't. I certainly don't. This makes them mad. When the powerful lack understanding of the weak the weak becomes marginalised and oppressed. When you attempt to squash something down it inevitably squirts back in your face. This is a continuing problem for all colonial and otherwise invaded or occupied countries. I live in Sydney, Australia and we are having trouble dealing with the problems of the Indigenous Aboriginal population. Sweeping them under the rug has been Government policy for years, so has throwing money at the problem neither of these options can work forever. When the weak lack the education and opportunities and respect or even acknowledgement of the powerful they start to look elsewhere for validation. My point, here it comes, is that religion, all religion has been responsible for more harm than good throughout history. John Lennon said it all "Imagine no religion." Religion enforces difference. The concept of the alien, the unknown is what drives us to kill each other. If we could educate the developing world, we might all be just a bit smarter. If we drag the third world kicking and screaming into the twenty-first century, if we pick up the downtrodden, if we allocate money earmarked for sport and defense instead to reform and re-education then maybe we can let rational thought prevail. Maybe we could finally beat religion, and the prejudice and hatred that it breeds. Then we might be closer to a world of peace through understanding both scientific and emotional. Think about it, if we quit throwing stones at each other thousands of years ago we could be living on other planets by now. We should be launching rockets to the stars instead of at each other. Otherwise the only option is for each side to keep claiming to have the moral right on their respective sides until world peace is achieved through total annihilation of the human species. But I'm a cynic and a pessimist, or a realist I guess these days, and I know change is impossible. It's in our nature to destroy ourselves. Storm clouds are rolling in, be afraid, I am. Trailer=overglorified commercial

    by ElvisTCB

I am the first to admit I like to watch trailers and sometimes the trailers are better than the movie. However it is a commercial used to sell something. That it has been pulled due to a national tragedy by its makers does not mean the end of the creative arts as we know it. But I will make you all a deal. I will force Sony to put images of WTC into the movie if you bring back all the people who have lost their lives. If I can walk in downtown NYC and feel safe (like I did the night before as I walked into WTC to go home) then you can have your fucking trailer back. So what I am saying to all of you that lament the loss of this commercial is: get a life. Donate blood. Do something constructive.

What Was That Thing We're Looking For..? Oh Yeah - COMPASSION

    by hipcheck13

As Chris Farley so perfectly asserted in "Dirty Work:" "Shut your cakeholes." Of COURSE Sony's taking out the WTC, and it's the right move. For God's sake, we can't PRETEND the towers are still standing and then leave them in. Would that mean as we watch the movie we're "pretending" there are living people inside of them? Should the relatives of those killed in the collapse PRETEND their husbands, wives and children are still working there as Spidey swings by? Further, just the sight of the WTC in the movie can, and probably will, bring back hurt, pain, terror, fear and destruction to those who've lived through this thing UP CLOSE. I tell you, there's a group of Talk Backers that never cease to amaze me - you bitch and moan about the studios and their lack of compassion in your best fractured grammar and spelling, and then - when they do something that'll cost THEM, not YOU, more money, and all for the right reasons - you bitch about that, too. Maybe you're just bitches, period. Regardless, use your corn-nut sized brain and GET THE POINT Sony's trying to make.

Please come out of your parent's basements and get a clue. I don't want to be reminded of how great and beautiful the WTC was. Regicidal_Maniac, your post is far too intelligent for this thread. The horrors of 9-11-01 far, far, far outweigh stupid arguments over whether or not the WTC should be in a comic book movie. If Sony does a little last bit of editing because they think it's the appropriate thing to do, fine. I think Comedian said it best already. For those that are indignant that they are being taken out, f-cking relax. Terrorists did not destroy the WTC so it would appear in a f-cking movie. If the WTC is not in 'SpiderMan' it doesn not mean the terrorists have 'won'. It means that Sony has made a decision based on the traegedy that surrounds us all. I certainly respect the RATIONAL opinions of those who would like to see the WTC remain, because there are always 2 sides to every issue. But some people are making too big a deal about a movie.

    Sony's doing the right thing

    by Bad Guy

When Spiderman opens in May, only 8 months from now, people are going to go see it to forget the real world. It's an escapist film. The last thing most people are going to want to see is such a horrible reminder of what happened this past Tuesday. Imagine for a moment, if you knew someone who was killed in one of those buildings and you go see Spiderman, looking forward to nothing more than a fun, summer, popcorn film and suddenly there it is, the WTC. Personally, I think it would seriously bother me. I thought the teaser trailer was pretty cool, but I don't think I'll ever be able to watch it again without thinking about what happened this week. Peace.

    The Towers

    by spider_man121

Of course the towers had to be removed from the movie. Everyone has their reasons for saying they need to leave them, but people are forgetting one thing. The people who have loved ones in this tragedy will just be starting to heal when this movie comes out. How would you feel if people you loved were killed and when you started to heal and bengan to do normal things, like go to a move, one of the first things you see on the big screen is reminder of all this? Another thing is that with the twin towers completly destroyed, a moive that contained footage of them would almost seem like they were using the towers as a promotional tool. I know this footage was shot way before anyone even would have suspected something like this, but still, leaving the footage in would almost seem like the towers were on display. And once people saw those towers, that would be all they could think about. I know if I was sitting there watching this movie and the towers flashed into veiw, I would forget all about the movie and be right back where I am now in thinking about all this. As would people who had faimly and friends in the towers. It would just be in bad tast to keep the footage as it is.

Save your Pop Psyche 101 for pick up lines you stupid fucking tool! and finally ****Harry, if you are considering taking Uncapie's advice don't send me any food or clothes or whatever because I only have contacts at the Hospital and most of the people I've seen don't really need food and clothes. However, you can of course donate to the American Red Cross or if you really have the cahones to come up here and help people who have been affected you can go to Jersey City where most of the people who live in Battery Park have been evacuated to. They're all in shelters and because of the clean up and investigation they probably will be stuck there until at least Thanksgiving. That is of course if their apartments don't collapse too.

And when we did have our own major crisis like the San Francisco earthquake or the Oklahoma city bombings you fuckers didn't even lift one finger to offer any help. Nothing not even a bag of fucking rice. Yes we've done some pretty dastardly things under certain administrations but you fuckers wrote the book on hyposcrisy, with the first 1900 years of "civilized" tyranny and oppression.

    Kinch, Vanisher & Harry...

    by Comedian

***Kinch, if you indeed do have family who are missing or pressumed dead than I can only offer my deepest and sincerest sympathies. Don't waste your time calling the hotline. GO DIRECTLY TO THE HOSPITALS. Your best bet is St. Vincents because thats where the trauma center is. My dad says that back in '93 they found some people under the rubble weeks later. At this point you have nothing to loose so never give up hope until you really trully know. And fell free to call me whatever the hell you want especially if it makes you fell better. "Idiot", "asshole", "shitface" I could care less because they're just silly words on a screen. My fight's not with you. My fight's really not with any of you. I just have a very low tolerance for imbeciles right now. and speaking of such...***Vanisher, let me see if I can get this straight. We've just experienced the greatest catastrophy in the history of our nation. We could realistically be in WWIII within the next few weeks and most of the posters on this talkback are more concerned with the fact that Sony will be tweaking a few shots{Which in itself is a pretty moronic thing to bitch about since Spidey will still have THE REST OF MANHATTAN to swing around} AND I'M THE ONE WHO'S BEING "COMPLETELY IRRATIONAL"?!?!?. That is of course if their apartments don't collapse too.

    by Uncapie

If there's anything left after the K Man kicks your sorry ass, you're my meat! "Journey To the 7th Planet" was the only decent film to come out of your country and that's because it had John Agar, Miss Denmark and a bunch of beauty contestants in it. Otherwise, you guys suck at making movies bigtime! Good thing you have the Atlantic Ocean and your computer to hide behind. For a country that let the Nazi's waltz right in and take over, you have a lot of balls to say anything bad against the U.S.

    by Uncapie

You may cowtow and complain all you want, but the Comedian is in the shit of where it happened. Where the fuck are you? Safe, in your bedroom with your computer. There are far more things of importance than some discussion about a fantasy movie about a guy in a spider suit swinging from what used to be the WTC towers. We are looking at 10,000-20,000 people that are, in all probablity dead and I'm sure that they could give two shits and a fuck about weather or not if the WTC is in the trailer or if there's a Spiderman movie! Know what that means? This is what they have to look forward to: no more sunrises or sunsets, no more food or beverages, no more laughing, no more happy times, no more girlfriend, wife, husband, brother, son, mom, dad, aunt, uncle, grandma, grandpa, cousin, friend...EVER! EVER! YOU GET IT?! THESE PEOPLE ARE DEAD! This is REALITY! Not some fucking movie or comic book where they come back in the sequel or an issue down the road! This is a NATIONAL, if not WORLDWIDE tragedy! GET THAT THROUGH YOUR HEAD!

    Spiderman trailer

    by Hypestyle

wild---- Well, hopefully, they may include the trailer for the DVD release-- hopefully, that will suffice-- Insofar as totally removing any visual reference to the WTC in the movie-- well, I guess if they go there, it will be bizarre-- it will be as if they "acknowledged" the accident happened, but totally ignoring the specifics.. Is spidey operating in a world where the World Trade Center NEVER existed? Or...

    This is freakin' ridiculous...

    by datoman

We ge raped (trade center hit), slapped (pentagon hit) and killed, over and over and over. The WTC is gone and that really, really blows. What's even worse that this, however, is this idea that the mere presence of the WTC in a MOVIE shouldn't occur. That is BS. I'm NEVER gonna see those buildings again. The terrorist saw to that. Every movie may that references the NY will never have those buildings in them again. The terrorist TOOK THEM FROM US.

You guys are kidding me right?

    by Dirk Protostar

This is a movie that isn't even coming out until next! Nobody is pulling any Lucas revisionist crap and going back and re-edititng old movies. It hasn't been released. There isn't even a high profile ad campaign out yet. The fact is that those buildings DO NOT EXIST ANYMORE! Your not honoring anybody by placing these buildings in a movie that comes out in eight months. By this leaving the buildings in 'logic,' does that mean that ten years from now when Spiderman IV comes out they should keep digitally placing the buildings in NY? Come on people, this is just a ridiculous and selfish as those that are bitching about football being cancelled this week.

You know nothing of pulling dead people out of carnage, helping burn victims, consoling those who have lost their loved ones, fighting fires, having to tell a child why they won't see their mother ever again...fuck you, you spineless pricks! Movies are escapism! They are made with ACTORS! You watch two hours of celluloid and go home! This is reality and it'll be with people a lot longer then some fucking "Spiderman" trailer! I spent this evening putting together Red Cross packages for the people of New York! What did you fucks do? "Get off my high horse?" "Hypocrite?" ABOUT WHAT?! 2004: WTC (the movie)

    by Zardoz

Sure, Hollywood's taking the WTC out of its current projects, Spiderman, MIB2, etc. But that's only because it's marketing them now, post-attack. Just wait a few know they'll be making a movie about this tragic event. (And it'll be complete with lots of explosions, property damage and CGI-SFX in Dolby Digital-THX suround sound!) Oh, and coming soon: King Kong '76:The Special Edition...

Makes sense to take them out!

    by Uroboros

All these movies are coming out in the future and are suppose to take place in the present time of when they are released. Unless you're going to preface every movie that comes out from now on with "..sometime in a NYC before 9/11/2001" so that the movie actually does take place before that day; the towers should not be in the movie. Any counter arguement is just nonsense..period!

    WTC should stay in Spiderman

    by puppet boy cc

...for all to see its splendor. Not to be digitally removed. It would be a more fitting tribute if the buildings stayed, thus showing the worlds determination to not be governed by fear. It was a magnificent building, and you can't go digitally removing an American icon just because it no longer physically exists. To me, it would be like editing a family photo in photoshop, and removing relatives and freinds that are no longer with us. Please tell me I am not the only person thinking this...

    Good Ridance

    by Comedian

  • To remove, or to let them stay ? To be accused to knee jerk reactionism, or to be labelled insensitive ? Tough call, and one that I wouldn't like to have to make. Personally, I would like to see them remain, as a memorial. Just to see them on the big screen one last time, but that's a personal opinion. I fully understand and support the reasons for their removal, on one condition...if they're out, they're out for good. Never to be seen again, not even as a DVD extra to sell a few more discs. As to the scum selling the one sheets on Ebay. You're as bad as a war profiteer. My God, there are some assholes around this talkback. Comedian, you're NOT one of them. You have anger, you have pain, you have frustration. You express these on this talkback, and I personally thank you for doing so. It gives the rest of us a chilling account of life there at ground zero, and brings it all closer home to those of us who are far away. Uncapie, my are the voice of reason. Willis, Stallone, Schwarzenegger have made millions and millions of dollars acting out scenarios like this on film. Giving some back would be the decent thing to do. Do it quietly and anonymously by all means...but do it. King Rentobi, both have a lot of growing up to do. You thing that name calling and spiteful remarks are the adult, grown up and mature things to do, taking potshots at people like Uncapie or Comedian ? Do something worthwhile...if you're in the NY area, get your hands dirty, go and volunteer. But don't even DARE mock people like Comedian, who are actually there, cleaning up the mess. 1649. You have some evolving to do there, don'tcha son ? You sit there in Denmark, one of the less important countries in the world, and feel you want to show the size of your meagre testicles by rubbing salt in America's wounds ? Aw, why am I even bothering ? Your whole idea of contraception must be to buttfuck a senile elderly male relative. I take back the remark that your mother was banged by a redneck. He probably tossed off into a rag, threw it at the feet of the nearest slut and let the flies do the rest. know Uncapie's real name ? Shiiiiiiiiiiiit, bitch, so do I. You wanna know mine, any time ? Take a look at my user name, or get someone to read it for you, if there's anybody left in your inbred family without syphillis of the brain !It's always a learning experience when you know the names of those kicking your worthless carcass around. On the other hand, maybe you'd be better off laying low (gutless cowards like you ALWAYS know how to lie low) until your voice breaks, you grow some body hair, and you're capable of hanging out with the big boys.

    by 66600

It occurs to me that whether or not horrible things are happening in the world at large or very close to home we can't all put our lives on hold. I live in Oakland California. I feel terribly about what happened in New York, as I'm sure most people do. Does that mean I'm going to stop being interested in the things I enjoy just because someone else thinks it's inappropriate? No. It's not an option to just shut down and only think about how horrible it is for those people to have died. As for the guy that recommended listening to Rage Against The Machine, give me a break. Listening to Rage Against the Machine usually makes me WANT to fly a plane into a building...Zak DeLaRoca's house.

    Spider-Man and the WTC

    by Rant-Man

Can I state the obvious? Somy isn't removing the buildings from the Spider-Man movie because it would make people feel bad to see them. They are removing them because leaving them in will make the movie look dated. "Oh look, it was filmed before September 11, 2001!" When your kids watch the DVD 15 years from now, they'll notice that the movie looks old because the buildings are there. It's not bowing to public demand, it's not being politically fashionable, it's about being market-driven and wanting the product to look new and fresh. When an audience sits in the theater, you want them to feel as if the movie is happening as they watch. You don't want them to be aware that the movie has been finished shooting for months. Showing a major landmark that no longer exists would yank people out of the movie and make them aware of how long ago it was shot.

  • Oct. 7, 2001, 6:20 p.m. CST

    A good hard look.

    by Mr. Baggins.

I personally wish that they would leave the film just the way it is. I've thought hard about it. And the only problem I can see is in the pain that the site of the WTC will reawaken in those who directly experienced the disaster. Don't get me wrong, that is a severe problem in and of itself. But in the larger sense, I worry about what actions like this will do to our nation's psyche. President Bush had the right idea, when he started his "get back to work; get back to the business of the country" speech. Those towers were symbols of american achievement, and we should all look on them with pride. And I do say "look on them"-present tense. I hope as the years go by we seek out and study photos and footage of those towers as they were, as much as how they ended up. Both are equally deserving of study. I say none of this lightly. My grandfather was a cop, my father was a firefighter, and my brother is in the Army, overseas, right now. And to the two people who posted messages before mine, I have to ask: Where do you live? Why do I get the feeling that it's right here in the US? You know, nobody thinks our country is perfect. But I love how pathetic children like yourselves complain about the nation acting as a "police force" around the world, and tell us not to "swallow" what our government is telling us. This was not a military action. This was not an attack against an army base. This was a force of thugs, who took commercial, civilian crafts, full of non-combantants, and used them as weapons upon unsuspecting citizens. They had no honor. If they had attacked an army base, or a navy shipyard, or other military installation, it would have still been a tragedy, but their actions could have been seen a retaliation or defense-whether thier reasons for it were valid or imagined. But they didn't do that. They were cowards. And I say to you: If you are so quick to defend them; if you are so ready to stand with them against our nation, then maybe you don't deserve the benefits of living in this nation. If we are so awful...why do you live among us? Kindly leave.
