Wanna Go To The COLLATERAL DAMAGE Premiere'!

Published at:  Sep 01, 2001 12:33:48 PM CDT

Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.

Someone sent me the full text of an article from The Arnold Fan.com, and I thought I'd reproduce it here for all of you... um... well... Arnold fans. If you're anywhere near Chicago, and you want to attend a premiere with the big man himself, here's your chance. I can picture AB King, reading this even as he calls the airlines...

When The ARNOLD FAN last reported on The 37th Chicago International Film
Festival it was unclear if Arnold himself would be attending their opening
night premiere of Collateral Damage held on Thursday, October 4th. Now,
thanks to hardcore super-fan Ryan Gillen and the official film festival
website, we are assured of The Terminator's presence.

Now get ready for the big surprise! If you are going to be in the Chicago
area in early October YOU can attend the premiere and presumably sit in the
same theater with The Oak! Tickets go on sale this week and you can get your
name on a list to guarantee yourself a seat if you call (312) 425-9400. The
price for the opening night of "Collateral Damage" is $15.00 and $60.00 for
a pre-show party where you can mingle and hopefully smoke a stogie with
Arnold and the rest of the cast!

Da biggest moofie off da yee-ar!

    by maxcalifornia.

Anyone remember the Conan O'Brien parody that he did of Ahnuld? Conan was "interviewing" a Schwarzenegger still photo with an animated mouth, and all Ahnuld would say was "Jingle all da vay...it is da biggest moofie off da yee-ar!". Funny stuff.
Ahem anyway, yeah Collateral Damage, I'll probably see it. Hopefully Ahnuld can still deliver the goods.

    No Thanks!

Instead of going to see this movie, I suggest that everybody go see "From Hell" with Johnny Depp, the trailer for it is the best I have seen in many years, just a suggestion. Later

We have to get one of our AICN spies there!

    by rodzilla

I'd go myself, as it's only a few hours drive from me, but I've seen the "Collateral Damage" trailer and I'm not the kind of guy who is fascinated by train wrecks. We all wish Arnold would get involved with a project we could get behind, but when dozens of interesting sounding projects line up at his door he chooses (for whatever reason) to do "The Sixth Day," "End of Days," "Eraser" or the absolutely worst script for "Terminator 3." Someone needs to let him know what the fans want, because he used to know, but somewhere along the line of fame and wealth he has forgotten. Why has he made these choices instead of "Crusade," "Planet of the Apes," "Captain Blood" or any other number of interesting projects? Why did he get stuck in the worst "Batman" movie? The first 10 years of his Hollywood career made him the fans he still has today around the world. The last 10 years has reduced that fan list to ashes, but they would all come back to support their screen hero if the project felt honest and was interesting. Someone needs to make sure Arnold considers "King Conan: Crown of Iron." As a Robert E. Howard fan from way back, the script sounds incredible. The return to the beginning is sometimes the way to the future! I feel that completing the Conan screen myth would bookend Arnold's career and earn him new respect from movie fans around the world.

    by obi1balony

Yes it's true, Arnold's films have gone way downhill since 95' (I don't care what you say True Lies was a great movie.) Arnold should look at making another Conan movie, or a True Lies sequel. Or at least check out what James Cameron is doing....

Again I will go in with he smae open mind I went into Eraser, End Of Days, and The 6th Day with.

P.S. My Suggestion, Arnold get in touch with Tarantino and see what he can do with you.

    ABking here...

    by abking

Everyone knows ABking is the biggest supporter of Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, but even "AB" can admit the facts. Both Stallone and Schwarzenegger should be making the movies that made them the ICONS they are today and they haven't been as of late. If ABking was allowed to supervise every Sly and Arnold project, their careers would be much better off than they are today. Lets look at both action heros.

Arnold Schwarzenegger -- Arnie went wrong after ERASER. That movie might have been a throwback to the 80's, but it delivered what both Arnold fans and action fans wanted. Then he made Jingle All The Way, the GOD AWEFULL Batman and Robin, a watered down End of Days and the Total Recall wannabe The 6th Day.

Sylvester Stallone -- Sly went wrong after JUDGE DREDD, a dreaded piece of shit. That movie is what did it in for Sly and even made him want to change the type of movies he made. It didn't help when that same year he made the "what could have been amazing" ASSASSINS. For gods sake, that movie had the names Richard Donner, Joel Silver and Andy & Larry Walchowski on it. It should have KICKED ASS. It didn't!!! Then Sly made Daylight before switching direction in his career with the underrated but amazing Cop Land. That movie showed everyone that Sly can still act and deliver a solid movie. After came Get Carter, Driven and the never released Eye See You a.k.a. D-Tox.

Now Vin Diesel is on his way to taking over where Sly and Arnold left off. He is without a doubt going to be this generations next BIG action star (with muscles included). He made Pich Black, the macho fest The Fast and the Furious and now Joel Silver wants him for what was to be a Arnie Vehicle Sgt.Rock. Vin is the new Sly and Arnold. The question is can anyone ever achieve the action star status that Sly and Arnold invented? "AB" knows no one can ever achieve the legacy that both reached, but Sly and Arnie are in danger of fading away with the memory of weaker projects to be remember by. This is what the two original kings of action need to do to be big and "hip" again in the publics eye.

Schwarzenegger needs to get the rights to T3 so that he can have the option of either getting James Cameron back on board or having it never made. If he can't obtain the rights to T3, he needs to let Mostow have total freedom on the project. Then Arnold needs to make the legendary projects that he has been linked to for so long. He must make With Wings As Eagles, Doc Savage, King Conan: Crown of Iron, Crusade and that much anticipated Schwarzenegger/Stallone team up project.

Stallone needs to make sure that a movie like Dolan's Cadillac gets made right. If Sly can pull this movie off, he will show audiences a side to him that people have never seen. Then Sly needs to give his fans what they want...and they want another Rocky and Rambo movie. Yes, people do want to see Sly return to these iconic characters. A older Rocky fighting a great opponent and "getting it all back" would make audiences stand up and cheer once again. Sly playing Rambo one last time and delivering the stunts and over-the-topness that made the franchise what it is today would get his action audience back big time. If Sly is still attached to the ambitious A Sound of Thunder and it can be brought to the big screen in the way people thought Planet of the Apes was going to be, sci-fi fans would go wild with anticipation. Of course the Stallone/Schwarzenegger team up is a must.

If Sly and Arnold follow the advise ABking has stated above, the people in AICN Talkback wouldn't be questioning them. It would be like it once was when everyone waited to see what Arnold and Sly did next.

  • but now it is mainly with a sense of trepidation instead of anticipation. I agree wholeheartedly with the majority of your post, ABKing, but I do think that Rocky should die in R6, not win. I DO look forward to Dolan's Cadillac.____Arnold needs to make King Conan! No other movie first, just DO IT, for goodness sake!____A Bee By Any Other Name...

    RIP Ah-nuld's Career. Born 1979......Died 2001

    by silentbob x

Well, true believers, tell the fat
lady she's on at the premiere of
    Collateral Damage. This movie
signals the end of the career of
    Hollywood's most famous one-man
    army, Ah-nuld Schwarzenegger. I
can't wait for the A&E Bio depicting his rise and fall. From
his dramatic turn in Pumping Iron
and his big Hollywood break, Hercules Goes Bananas to his current duds 6th Day and now, Collateral Damage. Such a shame.
Oh, well, it was good while it
lasted. Hasta La Vista, Cocksmoker. Nootch.

    Career can't be dead!!!

    by abking

Arnie's career is NOT dead. He has some great films (I have listed some) left in him. He is a survivor much like Sly. You mean you wish his career was dead but keep dreaming!

    Arnie isn't finished!

    by wev17

Collateral Damage (said to be a huge improvement on recent films), True Lies 2, King Conan, T3 (Mostow will sort it out). These will be his next films at least three of them will make a ton of money, all of Arnies films make loads of money in Europe. The Austrian Oak will kick ass once again.

    Aging action hero indignity contest

    by billy_zardus

Cast your vote for the hair-dyed aging action hero you'd like to see swallow their dignity one last time and take on a role from their past that at their age would be beyond the point of sillyness and self-parody:

    1) William Shatner as Capt. Kirk
    2) Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones
    3) Clint Eastwood as Dirty Harry
    4) Arnold as the Terminator
    5) Sly as Rocky
    6) Sean Connery as James Bond

Arnold Still Big Box Office Draw!!!!!

    by actionfan

Many of you are ignorant. Please try to know what you are talking about before you do so. Arnold's movies still make a ton. End of Days was not a great movie but it still made 220 million in the boxoffice worldwide. It was no boxoffice failure. Believe it or not his worst movies even have made a ton For Example: Batman and Robin, Jingle All The Way, Eraser all raked in the cash. His career is far from over. Bruce Willis has had many more bombs than Arnold and look how strong his career is. You never hear people say Bruce Willis's career is over even after bombs like The Story Of Us, Breakfast of Champions (made in 1999 worst piece of crap I have ever seen), The Siege, Mercury Rising,Last Man Standing (even though it kicked ass) and so forth. The bottom line is that even if Arnold's movies perform poor at the American Boxoffice the rest of the world go to see his movies. Are you guys so arrogant that you think only American money is good? If his career was in such trouble and his movies weren't making money then why would they keep giving his movies 80 million dollar budgets?
