Seems a lot of people out there hate BURN HOLLYWOOD BURN with a vengence.
Here's some reviews that were the softest possible reviews of BURN HOLLYWOOD
BURN. Many of the reviews came from people angries than Hallenbeck. There have
been a couple that liked it, but overall I'd say about 80 percent think along the same lines
as these guys. Of course you have to love the fact that a film made to be 'An Alan Smithee Film' has
possibly turned out to be the hallmark of the genre. A true masterpiece of unwatchable cinema perhaps.
Personally it doesn't do that for me, cause I laughed at intentional jokes, and at times at the unintentional
jokes. Anyway, let me let these guys rip it apart, I'm tired of hearing them drool. The first comes from
Oski!
Just thought I'd write in about your sponser and put you on the spot. I
was at a screenwriter's conference in LA a few months ago, and we were shown a
preview of "Burn Holywood Burn". Put simply, it was, without question, the
worst piece of trash I have ever seen on a screen, and I paid to see
"Sliver" and "Joe Versus the Volcano". I don't know if they have made enormous
changes to the movie since then, but I sure hope so. In fact, until I saw the
advertising on your site, I had thought Hollywood pictures had chosen not
to release the movie at all. No such luck apparently. It would be dificult
to express just how bad the cut I saw was. Wanna-be screenwriters, people
desperate to get into the biz, were getting up and walking out of the room,
in front of the people who helped to make the movie. Don't ask me to
summarize the plot because there was none. The actors looked like they were
sleepwalking, or embarassed, or both. Thinking about it now, I am offended
that "BHB" got made, because that means that another movie did not.
Call me,
Oski
Then we have this nice little ol review by the Squishy Eyeball...
Burn Hollywood Burn - an alan smithee film
"An F! It sucks! I can't wait to send my enemies."
I went to a screening of this film last night and it was terrible. Half of
the theater walked out early. The plot is, well, missing. Instead of
playing out like a drama (ala The Player) this film is a mesh of interview clips
designed to tell the story through different points of view. It didnt
work.
I was bored after 10 minutes, and the 80 minute running time felt like 4
hours. This is an embarassment to all who took part (Arthur Hiller, the
true director who coincidently took his name off the project) and they should be
ashamed...Ryan O'Neal, Coolio, Chuck D, Richard Jeni, Eric Idle, Sandra
Bernhard, Harvey Weinstein, Shane Black, Jackie Chan, Dominick Dunne, Joe
Eszterhas, Whoopi Goldberg, Robert Shapiro, Sylvester Stallone, Billy Bob
Thornton...THE JOKE IS ON THEM!!!!
The "inside jokes" about hollywood were not funny to those in hollywood (my
friends and me) and wont be funny to those unfamiliar with the industry
either. I actually found it offensive. Do you know the sound of
fingernails on a chalk-board? This film was more painful than that!
I wouldnt sit through it again if you paid me! This film will flop!
