SPIDER-MAN shoots at Columbia U. - Reports Galore... Tons of Pics... UPDATE: Today's Shooting in Sunnyside!

Little update here for you New Yorkers! Here's where Raimi and crew are shooting today!

Hey Harry

Just thought you might like to know that they are definitely shooting Spiderman in Sunnyside today.

I saw it on my way to work. Hugh cranes and lights and I saw Sam Rami milling about (though I didn't see Spiderman). They're on the corner of 44th and Skillman. For those in NYC take the 7 Train (local) to 46th St. get out and walk two blocks over and one block north (against traffic on 44th) to Skillman. You can't miss it. I also saw them rigging a 70s yellow car (sorry I don't know make and models). Thought you might wanna know!

Hey folks, Harry here... It should take a while to get all of these, but this is basically what happened at COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY and the SPIDER-MAN set yesterday! The pics came from TinTathar The Great! Looks like this is from the sequence where Peter and his classmates all go to the science lab where Parker is... BITTEN by a radioactive spider and his life is changed forever. Why is Osborne there? Well, Norman drops of his son Harry in the Osborne-Mobile you see below. Peter, Flash and Mary Jane all arrive via School Bus from their High School. Here are the pics... and various letters from Columbia Students in attendence....

On my walk to work this morning I walked through the filming of a scene for "Spiderman". The film crew was set up on the steps of Low Library on the main part of campus (that's right in front of the big domed building you see pictured at http://www.columbia.edu). They were taking a break between shots and Willem Dafoe and Toby McGuire were sitting in director's chairs. There was a black Bentley parked on College Walk in front of the steps and it looked like the scene involved the actors walking up or down the stairs and getting into or out of the car. Very exciting stuff.

Hey Harry...first time poster, please refer to me as "Rod of Justice" if you post.

Anyway, I'm a Columbia student and today, Spider-Man was filmed on part of the cColumbia campus. Just a little college scene of the pre-Spidey Peter Parker, I guess. Anyway, the scene I watched involved about 40 extras posing as college students and maintenance men. It seemed like a scene where Peter was try to talk to Mary Jane, but was rebuffed. Then, Norman Osborne comes up to Peter and hands him a backpack. (Something like that...I got pretty close to the actual filming...about 5 feet behind.) On the set were Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, Willem Dafoe, and Joe Manganiello. It's nice out today...85 degrees about...I'm out to try to get some pictures.

I just saw several rehearsals and the actual filming of the scene they are shooting at Columbia for "Spider-man." The scene has Peter Parker (Tobey McGuire) walking up some stairs on campus with a group of students. He looks incredibly geaky in glasses and a gray hooded sweatshirt with a camera (natch) around his neck. Harry Osborn (James Franco) gets out of a black Bentley or Rolls, puts on his hood, and then calls to Peter who waits for him. Norman Osborn (Willem Dafoe) gets out of the car and calls after Harry, who has forgotten his backpack. Norman gives Harry the backpack, but as Norman turns to go back to the car Harry stops him and introduces him to Peter. They chat for a bit and then Peter and Harry continue up the stairs.

The 3 minute scene took about 1 1/2 hours to film. They kept losing power and the actors and extras were looking frustrated. The scene is supposed to occur on a Fall day and everyone was dressed for Fall weather, but the actual temperature in NYC today is 85 degrees!

And here are some pics from the shoot itself by NickOnline....

Hey -

Im a long time viewer of the page, and my first submission seems kinda pathetic. But what the hell, maybe somebody actually cares about this.

Im a student at Columbia University in New York City, and today, a film crew was on campus filming Spiderman. I dont know thing one about the script, but apparently, this is where Parker is going to school or something. Kirsten Dunst and Toby Maguire were both on campus. I stayed around for the main shot theyd been doing since 6 am, and here's what i understand. A really really nice Rolls Royce is parked on the main walkway through campus and students are walking around in fall clothes. A volvo drives past it, and Peter Parker jumps out and seems to be covering his face with his jacket (they took this out on later takes of the scene). Behind him, the door to the Rolls opens and a guy in a really nice suit gets out and runs after him yelling his name (i have no idea who he is). Peter doesn't turn around at first, but the guy is carrying something: Peter's backpack. Peter reluctantly stops and talks to the guy for a second, takes his backpack, introduces him to a friend, and then they walk away. I stood outside with my camera till they told me to shut it off. Sam Raimi was walking around in a suit directing, and everyone was hot as anything, wearing fall clothes for the season the movie is set in. Apparently they're going to later shoot on a library on campus.

Anyway, here's some pics.
