DRAGON'S LAIR: THE MOVIE in Pre-Production

Hey folks, Harry here... Seems that ol Don Bluth and Gary Goldman are still in Arizona... and are still going to move ahead with their next animation project.... even if the idjuts at Fox closed their entire animation studio down.

At this year's San Diego Comic Con I hooked up briefly with Don Bluth... bought a SECRET OF NIMH cel of Frisby from him.... and talked about what he was going to be doing next. At that point... he was thinking of developing another DRAGON'S LAIR game... But this time it looks as though they decided to go ahead and make a go at making the movie instead.

In this morning's edition of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC Don Bluth announces that he and Gary Goldman have opened up an independent animation studio in Phoenix, Arizona. Not only that, but that their next project will be a feature animated version of their DRAGON'S LAIR game which seemed like the coolest thing ever when I was 10 or 11.

The plan as they say it, is to have DRAGON'S LAIR ready for release in 2002. The article details how Bluth is going to work to keep the cost of this film at under $30 million.... pretty tight in the modern animation sense of things... BUT... if the story is there.... if the script is there.... if the skilled animation is there with a great thunderously adventurous score... then there is no reason why he can't pull it off.... he'll just have to animate more and do less cg.... which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Personally... I'd love to see the further adventures of Dirk and princess... Daphne was it?
