Ray Harryhausen Presents... many new flicks and telefilms for you in the coming years!!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. On one hand this news is incredibly exciting. Any true blue geek worships the ground Ray Harryhausen walks on. He's teaming up with Mindfire Entertainment to bring us films, TV movies and merchandising efforts... all under Ray Harryhausen Presents and all based on unproduced material from the maestro. Included in these films are those set in Greek Mythology and during Alien Invasions.
That's on the one hand. On the other hand Mindfire Entertainment is run by Mark A. Altman, a man I do not trust. I've never met him. He could be amazing and just not given a fair shake, but I do know that he wrote and produced HOUSE OF THE DEAD. You can understand my hesitation on this one aspect. He also said that all the creature effects in these films and telefilms will be CGI, but "in the spirit" of Harryhausen's stop-motion effects. I understand that they believe audiences won't buy stop-motion anymore, but I think they'd be surprised... Plus I just don't know how Harryhausen it'll feel with these CG creature where you have dozens of computer animators trying to fit their personalities into the creature instead of just one.
But I won't be a whiny fanboy on this one. Harryhausen getting his due and new work (movies $15 million and telefilms $4 million... with one movie and 3 telefilms per year) with his stamp of approval is always good news. Just keep Dr. Boll away from it, Mark. Or I will hurt you.
