Michael Bay Assimilates Digital Domain!!

Merrick is co-chair of fun!

Digital Domain, the visual effects gang that handled TITANIC, THE FIFTH ELEMENT, APOLLO 13, ARMAGEDDON, DANTE’S PEAK, TRUE LIES, STAR TREK NEMESIS, THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW, and many more, is now being co-chaired by director Michael Bay.

Bay will guide the company with John Textor. You can read more about the arrangement via a Digital Domain press release, which can be accessed HERE.

Digital Domain was founded in 1993 by James Cameron, Stan Winston, and Scott Ross (formerly a general manager of ILM).

I’ve always loved DD’s exceptionally vivid work - I find their efforts remarkably consistent...they’re easily my favorite VFX company. I also respect the high-quality FX Bay tends to demand in his films; this match-up could prove quite interesting. Although, I didn’t buy into some of the FX sequences in THE ISLAND…I’m not sure what happened there.

Digital Domain is currently wrangling FX on Clint Eastwood’s World War II saga FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS and Ivan Reitman’s SUPER EX GIRLFRIEND.
