Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with Moon Yun's take on this under 50-minute documentary about Nudism. That get you hot and bothered? Based on the below review, the movie doesn't sound all that amazing to me. Not educational enough, but also not titillating enough. I could be wrong, but I doubt I'll ever pick this up. Here's Moon Yun to tell you more on this!!!
Moon Yun signing in naked from Hawaii to tell you about this hot new documentary NAKED IN THE 21st CENTURY: A JOURNEY THROUGH NATURISM.
Rollerskating in the nude. Going snowboarding in your birthday suit. Being Naked. What’s the big deal? That’s the stance the documentary NAKED IN THE 21st CENTURY: A JOURNEY THROUGH NATURISM takes. Heck. The documentary, by fledgling filmmaker T.L. Young, even shows a family nude picnic.
Despite being at times lighthearted about the subject, Young also shows that being a nudist these days isn't all fun and games. He believes he may be the first nudist documentarian to interview a nudist talking about discrimination against single men. He also covers the issue of children in naturist settings.
He cleverly interwove “Nudes in the News,” a nudist newscast and even interviewed members in a fake “Nudes in the News” hosted by Christine Nguyen, a Playboy exotic beauty.
Having done his homework, Young shows library archival footage from the Naturist Library, as well as black and white photos and movies. According to his sources, two major nudist movements started in Germany at the turn of the century. They were the “bird watchers” and the “natural healing movement.” Both advocated nude sunbathing for better health.
Reverend Ilsley Boone, or “Uncle Daniel”, signed up his entire family for nude recreation thus popularizing the idea of family naturism. He also founded The American Association of Nude Recreation. Naturist movement spread by word of mouth and by the 1930’s several films were made about the subject.
In the 1950’s and 1960’s, there were the exploitation films. By the 21st century, there are 250 camp grounds and clubs and 40,000 registered members.
But what about the naked ladies, you ask. Enough of this boring history lesson. Exactly how naked do the people get?
Well you get to see Nguyen slip out of her bikini and actors reading their lines in the nude. They’re auditioning for Young’s nudist feature film, THE NAKED PLACE.
Maryn Ryan and Lisa Ko, professional actresses, are interviewed in a sauna. Challenged to take on nudism, Ko talks about what it’s like being naked. She says she was hesitant at first, but when she took her clothes off, she wanted to immediately put them back on. But then she got use to it. Ko felt Americans are immature about the way we look at nudism. We think it’s dirty or it’s wrong when it fact it’s natural.
All in all, Naked is pretty interesting and Young made a documentary that’s fun to look at and interesting to watch. At 46 minutes, it barely comes in at a feature length documentary. But I felt he could’ve still cut out some parts.
The DVD is available at all DVD outlets including Amazon.com. Its special features include: Deleted Scenes, Bonus Featurettes, Trailer and Chapter Selections.
