Jan De Bont to suck on purpose? Stoker estate puts their stamp of approval on official DRACULA sequel!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. This news is interesting in every aspect except for director. And this comes from someone who enjoyed the hell out of both SPEED and TWISTER... But I'm getting ahead of myself.

The interesting part is there's a script out there called THE UN-DEAD (the original DRACULA novel's sub-title) that is officially sanctioned by the Bram Stoker estate as the first true sequel to the book, and the first Bela Lugosi movie. It's set 25 years after the events of DRACULA and focuses on another battle between the dastardly Count and the survivors of the original story, including Jonathan and Mina Harker as well as everybody's favorite vampire hunter, Prof. Van Helsing. It will also feature a character by the name of Inspector Cotford, a man who was cut from Stoker's original manuscript.

See, that's all really interesting, but scripter Ian Holt is relatively untested and Jan De Bont hasn't put out a good movie in almost 10 years.

Even as someone who isn't a drooling bug-eating maniac over the DRACULA story (I find it rather dull, actually... and even though I'll catch shit for it, DRACULA is my least favorite of the Universal Monster Movies... I'd take WOLF MAN, FRANKENSTEIN and CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON over Todd Browning's flick... don't take that as a knock, though. I think Lugosi's performance is incredible and much deserving of the iconic status it has reached and Browning's visual style is fantastic. Just as a whole, not my favorite) I think this project sounds fascinating. I just hope they don't muck it up and make it overly flashy, yet I don't want it to bore the shit out of me. Now if they had announced Christophe Gans as director, I'd trust his visual style and directorial vibe with a flick like this. What do you folks think?
