Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...
Looks like Sony launched SoDarkTheConOfMan.com, the highlight of which is the brand-new full-length trailer for the movie THE DA VINCI CODE.
Oh, I’m sorry. Did I call it a “movie”? I meant, “Sony’s license to print money next summer”. That thing’s going to be gargantuan. That’s a monster hit, the next SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. That’s one of those trailers that knows exactly what it’s doing, and it looks like the film does, too. Tom Hanks. Ron Howard. Amelie. And check out the freaky albino villain guy. That’s what people are going to think looking at this trailer, and all of that adds up to, “Fuck yeah, sell me a ticket.”
The book was one of the biggest commercial hits of the last decade not because it’s brilliant literature, but because it was shrewd, paced like a bullet, and because speculative history is always fun if presented right. It was a phenomenon because it was perfect airplane reading, perfect fast food writing, like Crichton in his prime or like Clancy in his. The film looks like it’s going to be exactly the same, but in movie terms, and I think anyone who goes head to head with the film at the box-office is doomed to lose.
Having said that, the POSEIDON teaser trailer also ended up online today, and it’s a solid trailer with a great “holy shit” image that’s pretty much an exact echo of the first PERFECT STORM teaser. As you recall, I visited the POSEIDON set a month or so ago, and I thought Wolgang Peterson was very persuasive about why he’s making the movie. Now here’s a peek at it, and a chance for you to judge some real footage.
Between these two and X-3, a trailer I liked more than Harry, evidently, May’s shaping up to be a pretty gigantic month, and it’ll be interesting to see what ends up on top.
