Peter Weir's next project is SHANTARAM starring everybody's favorite pirate!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a bit of news on Peter Weir's next flick. I loved MASTER AND COMMANDER and who doesn't love GALLIPOLI, MOSQUITO COAST, WITNESS, etc? He seems to like the handsome leading men. Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, Russell Crowe and now Johnny Depp. The flick is an adaptation of a book by Gregory David Roberts about a heroin addict who escapes from prison and flees to India where he becomes a doctor in the slums of Bombay. This leads him into the world of counterfeiting, smuggling and gunrunning. Eric Roth (FORREST GUMP, THE INSIDER) is writing the screenplay with Weir guiding him along the way. Warner Bros is producing the flick. I don't know about you, but seeing Peter Weir tackle this material with Johnny Depp in the lead has me giddy as all hell to see this film. What do you think?
