Pee-Wee speaks! What's the future have in store for Mr. Herman???

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with an account of a seriously damned cool screening held last night in LA at the beautiful Egyptian theater by the American Cinematheque of PEE-WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE with Paul Reubens there in person to talk about the movie. Lucky for us saps that couldn't attend due to distance we had an attendee write in about the Q&A! Here's what we were sent and I'll be back below with my thoughts!!!

Last night I was lucky enough to attend a screening of "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure" followed by a Q&A with Paul Reubens at the Arclight in Hollywood. Of course the film was fantastic. I've always found the antics of Pee-Wee amusing. But to combine that with the likes of Tim Burton you end up with a surprisingly dark comedy.

But more important to note was the Q&A to follow, where someone asked a question about future Pee-Wee projects. To which Mr. Reubens held up two scripts, both of which he wrote and both deal with Pee-Wee. The first he said did in fact have a producer attached by remained nameless. But the story had something to do with the "King of Cartoons" being kidnapped and Pee-Wee has to save him. He mentioned that it would be closer to an extention of the CBS Saturday morning show.

The second he gave a longer summary, saying it opens with Pee-Wee just getting out of prison (for what I have no idea, but don't think my mind went to a certain something) and joining a lumberjack community. Even stranger was that Pee-Wee is somehow discovered for his singing talents and produces a famous single. But fame doesn't agree with Pee-Wee and he turns into a monster against his adoring fans. He went on to say he just finished this one, and has yet to be read by any production companies. So this film would be more like a 3rd installment in the Pee-Wee films. Also regarding a return of Dotty in this film, he said "no, there is a new love interest named Darchel" Apparently if this film doesn't pan out, he said he's planning on turning it into a comic book.

Obviously, Pee-Wee is not the same man he was in the 1980s. But according to him it's still possible that the grey suit and bow tie may be resureccted.

I hope you found this information interesting.

It's been known for a little while that Reubens had two PEE-WEE projects on the books, but it's really great to get an update. The "adult" PEE-WEE movie has been reported as being R-rated and a veiled satire on what happened in Reubens' own career. I remember being a kid and being crushed when they cancelled PEE-WEE'S PLAYHOUSE because of that ridiculous scandal. I can't wait to see what developes... I must admit to being kinda giddy at the idea of Pee-Wee Herman rescuing the King of Cartoons. Please please please get Larry Fishburne back as Cowboy Curtis! That would make me smile so big... What about you folks?
