Final thoughts from those who attended Lucas' Q&As at STAR WARS: CELEBRATION!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with the last bit from Celebration, a selection of tidbits from those who attended the Festival of Geekdom, read the reports that came in and wanted to fill in little holes in the coverage and even clarify some of the confusion. Below we have some detail from Nick Gillard on different lightsabers in Ep. 3 and a lot more stuff from Lucas, including some detail on how much of his original 20 page backstory to the Original Trilogy went into each prequel while answering a disgruntled fan. You also get more on STAR WARS TV and CLONE WARS! Enjoy!!!

Hey Harry,

First time e-mailer, long time lurker.  Seriously, I even tried to e-mail hours ago and I got the address wrong - that's green.  Anyway, I just wanted to confirm/expand on what Pickle Loa said.  I was one of the fortunate to get to see Lucas at his first show (he did three).  There's nothing like standing in line with @ 5am - sorry had to let the Geek flag fly for a moment.  Anyway, Lucas did say the Clone Wars was going to be 3D animated and be a continuation of the series, by which I'd assume he means using the same characters.  One other thing though about the TV series, yes he did say it would be set between EPs III & IV, but he also said the series would center around "peripheral characters from the films", people that were not central in the previous films.  After revealing this, he even jokingly said something along the lines of, "that's enough information to have you speculating for a long time."  And of course he's right... Bobba Fett the TV series (that would be my choice),  Young Lando Calrissian, the Great Gungan Adventures, Admiral Ackbar's first sushi restaurant, a Droids live action series... ow, my head hurts.  Well let the speculation begin.  If you use this call me -

Hrmm... side characters... between Prequel Trilogy and Original Trilogy... what interesting story could be told that doesn't involve the Emporer and Vader taking over the free systems of the Republic? I guess a Bounty Hunter series could be interesting, but I wanna see lightsabers, man! Considering we're losing most of the lightsaber peoples in this next movie, that doesn't leave much outside of Palpy and Ani, methinks. Speaking of lightsabers, here's the next bit of info from a Q&A with Nick Gillard!

Just to let you know a spoiler from Celebration:

* Nick Gillard, the fight choreographer, says that there are going to be a bunch of people with 2-bladed lightsabers in the movie, ala Darth Maul.

* Grevious does go into the 4 armed lightsaber thing.

Good times.

The below is the last and the one that has the most interesting information on the behind the scenes of the creation of the prequel trilogy from the big man himself. The below spy seems surprised at Lucas' honesty when answering the disgrunted fan at his Q&A, but Lucas doesn't really have a history of being a big lying liar. He's secretive, sure, but he's stated quite openly that he made the prequels in order to make a ton of money off of a very profitable franchise. Before the Lucas bashing starts, be sure to read the below and think about what he's saying about the difference between Episodes 1 and 2 and what's in Episode 3. I'd say having 20 minutes of story in THE PHANTOM MENACE and 20 minutes of story in ATTACK OF THE CLONES feels right. I hope that bodes better for ROTS!

Quint,

Didn't see this tid-bit on the Celebration 3 info, so I thought I would write in.

I was in the second Lucas Q&A (at least, I think it was the second - blue wrist band) and someone had the cojones to ask why the original trilogy was interesting and the prequels weren't. Lucas talked about how the first act of a play and the first chapters of a book are always boring because their exposition - they set up the rest of the story - and compared the prequels to that. Even more interesting, though, Lucas said that when he originally wrote the SW story, the prequels amounted to about 20 pages. 20% of that got used in TPM (with the rest of the movie made up - Lucas called it a "jazz rift" on the main plot), 20% in AOTC (with more "filler"), but fully 60% of the prequel plot is contained in ROTS.

A pretty honest answer on a subject that seems to get a lot of spin. And I gotta say - it raises my hopes for this last movie.

You can call me sullijo.
