The new TV Guide lists "The West Wing" on its "endangered species" list, but the Hollywood trade papers are reporting Wednesday morning that NBC is about to OK an early seventh-season renewal for the veteran political drama, albeit at a greatly reduced per-episode license fee.
This means we’ll learn whether or not Jimmy Smits’ Democratic congressman will defeat Alan Alda’s Republican senator in November. It also means we’ll see, health permitting, Jed Bartlet conclude his final term in office, with the new president likely assuming the show’s lead next January.
It’ll come as a surprise to few that a number of the current regulars (perhaps even Martin Sheen) will be reduced to recurring status for the next season, which should reduce production costs substantially.
