Hunter S. Thompson 1937-2005

I am – Hercules

Very sad and wholly uncool news. My very favorite writer in the world, Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, is dead.

Of all the giants of 20th century literature, he was easily the funniest.

Author of “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,” he shot himself in the head Sunday night, according to son Juan Thompson.

His other books include "Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail," "Hell's Angels," "The Rum Diary," "The Great Shark Hunt," "Kingdom of Fear" and "Hey Rube."

He was the subject of at least two feature films, "Where The Buffalo Roam" (1980) starring Bill Murray, and "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" (1998), starring Johnny Depp. The "Doonesbury" character of Ambassador Duke is also based on Thompson.

Because of Thompson, I still routinely begin my sentences with the phrase, "As your attorney ..." though I hold no law degree.
