…John Saint. The son of John Travolta’s character in the first movie.
Now, there’s an *official and reputable* source for this information, but I’ll get into that in a second.
As soon as I walked out of that movie, I knew that they had to be setting it up. Think about it – his entire body, and one arm, was blocked by stuff that was collapsed onto him. Only part of his upper body, and his face were exposed. We don’t –see- him die either, we just hear the explosion (and if I remember correctly, a scream.) Taking all of that into consideration, along with the stage already being set for –revenge- against Frank Castle by not only destroying John Saint’s comparable “Billy ‘The Beaut’ Russo” looks, but also his family and their entire empire. But now, without a REASON OF A DOUBT, here’s the clincher:
PLAY THE NEW PUNISHER GAME by THQ. I almost shit my pants when they pretty much used exactly what I stated above to incorporate Jigsaw into the game as the final boss. Practically ver-fuckin-batim!!!
BTW: That game rules all Marvel comics games to date. I highly suggest the PC version (uncensored and quite brutal!!!) to anyone who’s ever been a fan of The Punisher. They took the *best of every Punisher series* and threw it into a single game. It was like the bastard son of Steven Grant and Mike Zeck. Hardly none of the “Welcome Back Frank” bullshit they loaded in to the movie. There’s also TONS of guest appearances… I mean, they really went all out on that game and included some Marvel characters you’d never guess in a million years who be featured in a Punisher video game.
One last thing about the movie: I just don’t understand why they couldn’t have had Frank return from Iraq, and stumble across some shit with his family like they did in the TRUE origin of the character. The whole lame-assed opening sequence destroyed the movie for me. I can’t even bring myself to watch it again – not to mention buy the DVD. They really dropped the fuckin’ ball on that one.
Also… THEY BETTER INTRODUCE MICROCHIP IN THE SEQUEL!!! I mean, he’s the one who built all the cool shit (and the Battle Van!!!) – ala BLADE’s Whistler.

It’s so telling that even when someone bags a movie completely, they hold out hope for a sequel. These Marvel characters really are just ingrained into our fanboy DNA, aren’t they? Anyway, thanks, man. Fun stuff for a Sunday afternoon.
