CONSTANTINE the end to D.C.'s Suckage Streak at Cinemas'

Hey folks, Harry here... Could it be true? Is it possible that Warner Brothers could put out a decent superhero flick in the current age? Of course it is, it has always been possible, but has it actually happened? Aha! The real question. Well, with Lauren Shuler Donner producing, that's a plus. BUT - then there's Lorenzo DiBonaventura - but for all his lunacy regarding ruining the BATMAN franchise, he did get THE MATRIX going at Warner Brothers. So... Is it possible? I've been hearing good things, so I'm optimistic. With it debuting in 3 weeks, we'll all see soon enough. Til then, Buffy Babe here seems mostly positive about this Keanu fest! Here ya go...

Hey Harry,

Thought I would drop you a line on Constantine. I gotta say, it's taken them years, but it finally looks like Warner Bros. and DC finally might be in step with Marvel again. Fellow comic book geeks take note: This movie does NOT suck.

Ok, ok, so the hardcore fans of the series will be pissed that you don't have a British bloke kicking demon ass, but honestly, Keanu Reeves is good, maybe BETTER than his Matrix Neo schtick. As John Constantine, Keanu isn't as hard and brittle as his comic-book counterpart, but he is good -- he's a pissy, chain-smoking, put-upon demon-slayer who doesn't have time to make nice with all the people he saves from possession.

NEWSFLASH: Keanu can emote!!! I also got to add that the CGI is really good. The demons Constantine battles look real, and the scenes from hell are shit-kickin' scary (If I were you. I'd repent now).

The only downer to be had is Rachel Weisz. Yeah she rocked in The Mummy, but she's hardly believable as an LA cop investigating the suspicious death of her twin sister. If you can get past her rotten American accent, you might actually enjoy the wise-crackin' one-liners courtesy of Constantine's side-kick, Shia Lebouf, the oh-so-groovy adrogeny of arch angel, Tilda Sweet (remember her in Orlando?), and the scene-chewin' dapper dandiness of Bush's Gavin Rossdale. Overall, this flick rocks, although the ending does drag a little.

With three weeks to go before it's released, maybe Warner Bros. and can do some last minute nip and tucking.

Will 2005 be the year that the WB finally kicks Marvels comic book movie ass? Well, if Batman Begins is as good (or better) than this, they might be on to something.

You can sign me Buffy Babe.
