* Jan. 4 “Committed” (NBC) Sitcom from writer-producers Elaine Heisler & DeAnn Heline (“Murphy Brown,” “Down the Shore,” “Three Sisters”) about a neurotic who falls for an eccentric.
* Jan. 5 “Alias” (ABC) The first new episode since May 23 kicks off its fourth season. Its writing staff now boasts “Angel” strongmen Jeff Bell and Drew Goddard.
* Jan. 8 “The Will” (CBS) Reality series from Mike Fleiss (“The Bachelor,” “Are You Hot?” “High School Reunion,” “Superstar USA,” “The Real Gilligan’s Island”) about real-life relatives who compete for an inheritance.
* Jan. 9 “Carnivale” (HBO) The first new episode since Nov. 30, 2003, kicks off the second season. But season-one showrunner Ron Moore has moved on to mastermind “Battlestar Galactica.”
* Jan. 9 “Strange Love” (VH1) Sequel to “Surreal Life 3” following the relationship shared by massive former actress Brigitte Nielsen and tiny rap legend Flavor Flav.
* Jan. 9 “Surreal Life” (VH1) The new cast includes Go-Go’s guitarist-songwriter Jane Weidlin, Verne “Mini-Me” Troyer, Swedish model Marcus Schenkenberg, rap legend Da Brat, pro wrestler Joanie “Chyna Doll” Lauer, “America’s Next Top Model” winner Adrianne Curry, and 47-year-old “Brady Bunch” kid Christopher Knight.
* Jan. 9 “24” (Fox) The first new episode since May 25.
* Jan. 9 “Unscripted” (HBO) Remember “K Street,” HBO’s improvised D.C. drama from Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney? Soderbergh and Clooney are back with HBO’s improvised L.A. drama featuring three real-life struggling actors playing semi-fictional versions of themselves.
* Jan. 10 “The Bachelorette” (ABC) The first new episode since Feb. 25. “The Bachelor” is something of a joke, of course, because every girl who wins “The Bachelor” is dumped by The Bachelor ten minutes after the show ends. Jen Schefft, the star of the new edition of “Bachelorette” is one of those “winners,” having moved on from rubber-fortune heir Andrew Firestone.
* Jan. 12 “Crank Yankers” (CC) The first new episode since Aug. 24.
* Jan. 14 “Battlestar Galactica” (SciFi) Ron Moore’s regular-series follow-up to his acclaimed and highly-rated 2003 miniseries is getting raves from fans in the United Kingdom, where it has been airing since Oct. 18.
* Jan. 14 “Jonny Zero” (Fox) Drama from “JAG” writer-producer Scott Gemmill about a dreamy ex-con (Franky G) who uses his criminal wiles to solve crime.
* Jan. 17 “Supernanny” (ABC) Reality series about a British nanny who fixes dysfunctional families.
* Jan. 17 “The Osbournes” (MTV) The fourth and final season kicks off with the first episode since May 4.
* Jan. 18 “American Idol” (Fox) The first new episode since May 26, when someone named Fantasia Barrino beat someone named Diana DeGarmo.
* Jan. 19 “Point Pleasant” (Fox) Supernatural drama from writer-producer Marti Noxon (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) about what happens when Satan’s daughter washes up on the shores of a sleepy New Jersey town.
* Jan. 20 “The Apprentice 3” (NBC) The first new episode since Dec. 16 kicks off the show’s third season.
* Jan. 21 “Monk” (USA) The first new episode since Aug. 20 introduces Traylor Howard (“Two Guys and a Girl”) as the title character’s new Girl Friday.
* Jan. 21 “Stargate Atlantis” (SciFi) The first new episode since Sept. 17 will see the death of many Genii.
* Jan. 21 “Stargate SG1” (SciFi) The first new episode since Sept. 17 will demonstrate that not everyone need fear disruptors.
* Jan. 23 “Numbers” (CBS) Drama, from someone named Nicolas Falacci and someone named Cheryl Heuton, about an FBI agent (Rob Morrow) who uses his mathlete brother (David Krumholtz) to capture serial killers.
* Jan. 26 “The Simple Life” (Fox) The first new episode since Aug. 4 will see Paris and Nicole pretend to be interns.
* Jan. 26 “Newlyweds” (MTV) The first new episode since Aug. 18 may or may not showcase Nick’s Lachey’s reaction when he learns his much-younger wife now has a movie career.
* Jan. 26 “Ashlee Simpson Show” (MTV) The first new episode since Aug. 4 may or may not deal with the singer’s disasterous appearance on “Saturday Night Live.”
