Let's Just Go Bananas Over KING KONG and Dream It Was Xmas 2005 Already!

Hey folks, Harry here... My current favorite internet anything is KongIsKing.Net right now. I'm addicted to the KING KONG documentaries that come from Peter and crew. They are utterly fantastic. Prior to this, the best features of this type online in advance of a film have been the stuff folks have had to pay for over at Lucas' paysite, Hyperspace. However, these delicious featurettes are fantastically conceived, shot and put together. They're funny, informative and persuasive. Persuasive? Yeah, they communicate an amazing degree of love for the material and confidence that it's going to just open up a bottle of massive whupass on the world.

Take a look at these frame grabs from recent Production Diaries. These first 4 represent production paintings, followed by their respective test shots. Here ya go:

Next - you have a pair of production paintings... actually "pieces" of production paintings revealing the sort of "wow" we're in for. Be sure to check out KongIsKing.Net for the full featurettes... they're the best behind the scenes on the internet right now!

Next - from Darth SugarPlum we have a peak at some of the work that has found its way to Skywalker Ranch, the worst place to send stuff to keep secret. Just kidding. The report is accurate to the description of Kong and the Empire State Building stuff described, I hadn't heard before... but it makes sense given what we've seen and heard regarding Peter amping up the dynamation of the film. Heh. Love that word!

Hey Harry!

Love the site mate, keep it up.

Just thought I'd drop you an email about some stuff I saw recently for King Kong, it's not much, but I thought it quite interesting, especially what he seems to be doing ontop of the Empire State.

I was lucky enough to visit SkyWalker Ranch recently (an odd place to see King Kong stuff I know), but inside the ranch house there's a boardroom to the immediate left hand of the main entrance. Before we were allowed in we had to wait until some of the Episode 3 cast had left because they'd been there doing a few pick-ups.

Anyway, in the rush to get them out, and us in, the boardroom door was left open and there was a scale model of King Kong in clay in the centre of the table, surrounded by concept sketches. I found out later that SkyWalker Sound is doing the sound for the movie and they've got this model, I presume, to get inspiration.

ANYWAY!

King Kong is looking very good. One thing I did notice was that he had a very flat head and was extremely stocky, a little like Mike Tyson. He's far shorter than I imagined and barely had a neck. In the concept sketches he also had a huge silver haired back much like alpha gorillas you see on wildlife programe.

The most interesting thing I saw though was the state of the Empire State. I guess it was the Empire State but the whole of the top of the building was missing (think Dana's apparentment in GhostBusters). He'd rammed his feet through windows to get footholds and was depicted as throwing huge slabs of masonary and building - he had a portion in his hand.

Anyway, just thought I'd let you know - but it seems he's going to be doing far more to that building than simply falling off it and waving Fay Ray around.

Also, during the tour of the ranch we visited the library. A pile of papers on the desk were labelled 'To shred' and 'I4'. Indy 4? Who knows? Anyway, they showed 50's photos of the Golden Gate bridge plus photos of 50's London, including Big Ben.

Anyway, just thought you'd want to know!

If you use this, call me Darth Sugarplum.

Keep up the goodwork!

I want this movie last week. Harry out, for now...
