Hey folks, Harry here... If you've been obsessive compulisive about SKY CAPTAIN & THE WORLD OF TOMORROW ever since that tiny mention in the L.A. Times back in like August of 2003, then here's a real delux treat in a bow for ya... The entire score to SKY CAPTAIN... or at least nearly 58 minutes of it. Now the problem/blessing is you won't be getting Track listings (which depending on their names could be spoilerish one supposes) and two it's one big ol hunk of music, not divided into skippable tracks. BUT - AOL has put it up for us to listen to, and that's exactly what I've been doing for the last 44 minutes...

Love the site. I never thought I'd be writting you about anything since I am just an average joe with no ties to the industry. But the other day I was browsing through the message boards of the IMDB site, when I came across a very cool link.

Apparently Sony Classical has a deal with AOL.com, because the folks at AOL have put on their site the entire soundtrack for the much anticipated Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.

I listened to the entire thing, and I must say that I was impressed with the work that Edward Shearmur and the London Symphony Orchestra have done.

Edward Shearmur is probably most known for his orchestration of the Charlies Angels series, although he has been in the business for nearly 15 years now.

The Sky Captain soundtrack is without a doubt the most impressive work that Shearmur has accomplished so far in his career. To get to record it at Abbey Road with the London Symphony Orchestra is an added bonus. The huge brass section is used quite well in all the action queues.

The main theme for Sky Captain resembles a very uplifting fanfare that is repeated throught the score. The first couple of queues are mainly action-oriented, and are reminescent of Gustav Holst's "Mars" from his suite, The Planets. There is also a lovely "romance" theme, although I cannot tell you which queue this is on as the AOL thing doesn't give you the queue numbers. Oh well.

All in all, I was very impressed with this soundtrack. Hopefully we'll see more works like this from Shearmur in the future.
