Romero finally gets to return to what he does best! LAND OF THE DEAD lensing in Oct!!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Variety confirmed today that George A. Romero's 4th LIVING DEAD film, called LAND OF THE DEAD, has finally, after many years spent in development hell, gotten all the money in place and will be shooting in October. I know this isn't the most new, cutting edge story, but I figured it'd be nice to devote a talkback to this, in my opinion, awesome news.

Over at one of my favorite sites on the web, Blood Disgusting they have a great story about the film. I pulled out this bit:

In Romero's new pic, the zombies having taken over the world and those left alive are confined to a walled-in city that keeps out the corpse corps. Anarchy rules the streets, with the wealthy insulated and living in fortified skyscrapers. Drama revolves around a group of scavengers who must thwart an attempt to overthrow the city while the dead are evolving from brainless slow-moving creatures into more advanced creatures.

Canton said Romero's early work was the touchstone for a slew of current horror hits and that his script showed the master hadn't lost his touch.

He and Goldmann described the film as "Night of the Living Dead" meets "The Road Warrior," and Wild Bunch's Vincent Grimond sparked to the overseas potential. The two companies have the ability to cover the budget themselves but expect to land a domestic distributor before the zombies wreak havoc in the fall.

I've heard some really fantastic things about this script (if anyone has a copy they want to share, my email account is always open!!!) and am giddy at the concept of Romero coming to get us (barbara) all over again!

There are two events coming up in the near future where us AICNers along with hordes of gorehounds will have a chance to grill Romero on the project. First up is here in Austin, a night with George Romero put on by the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. I'll be in San Diego covering the Comic-Con, but Harry's already resigned to lowering himself to do petty interview work in my absence. For those locals, the event on July 24th and you can get more info at THE ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE'S WEBSITE.

The other event is up in Chicago where our man in the Windy City, Capone, will be stalking about. The thing runs July 30-August 1 and is called FLASHBACK WEEKEND. Click here for information on that event!

Anyway, good news! What do you folks think?
