FAHRENHEIT 9/11 Posters!

Hey folks, Harry here with a bit of a crash course in promotional fireballing a film. I mean... what was it, 2 weeks ago that this thing got distribution? First we get the trailer, then bam bam bam, Teaser poster and Theatrical One Sheet? Whether or not you dig Michael Moore... Ya kinda have to respect the turnaround that Hollywood can do when motivated. I mean, can you imagine if Miramax had this sort of turnaround on films like SHAOLIN SOCCER, ZATOICHI, HERO or INFERNAL AFFAIRS. Where they picked em up, and just knocked them out in theaters before the foreign DVD market would saturate the online illegal copy world... before imports could be felt upon the releases? There's such a feeling of immediacy and urgency about them getting this out instantly like this. Sure, it's blatantly politically motivated... but it shows they are able to do turnarounds this quickly. That the dinosaur of distribution can have its tires kicked and the promotion wing done with napalm.

Michael Moore polarizes like nobody's business. I love his "Pie in the Face of Establishment" cavorting about... Moriarty referred to him like a Sideshow Barker selling a bill of goods. But frankly - we live in a world that doesn't really seem to notice serious issues when they're being sold seriously. Often times, it really does take balloons and streamers... honking horns and trumpets to get anyone sitting up and taking notice. I wish to God that the numbers of folks that will turn out for FAHRENHEIT 9/11 would've turned out in the same numbers for Errol Morris' FOG OF WAR - but though the trailers were great, and the praises were universal... It never got an ounce of the publicity and the audience attention saturation like this has.

Political Satire - the Political Cartoons in Newspapers - That's generally how too many Americans get their editorials - rather than actually read the columnists. And the ones with political columns that get the most attention are always the most outrageous. The entire political media world is about photo ops and audacious grand-standing. Michael Moore may create a great deal of distaste in many of your mouths... but in and amongst it all... he asks many very valid questions. The great thing about America is our ability to hold our officials responsible to answer for their actions... to question authority... and to scream our distaste as loudly as we have the resources to scream. Michael simply has one of the biggest bullhorns around, but it very much is Political Satire mixed with Political Revelations... and I for one can't wait to check it out...
