From a Giant Monkey kidnapping a beautiful woman to a film about a raped and murdered girl... Peter Jackson's latest!

Hey folks, Harry here... From the headline -- I'm sure many are disturbed. Well, it seems that Peter Jackson is very much headed into that direction.

THE LOVELY BONES by Alice Sebold is a novel from a couple of years ago, which from the write up about the novel that I found over at Amazon, makes it seem like a much darker and dramatic version of that fantastic show DEAD LIKE ME, that airs over on Showtime. I know, I know... I don't watch Television, but because of all the DVD columns I'm writing, I'm getting sent screeners of some of the shows, and DEAD LIKE ME which is having it's first season unleashed on DVD next month appealed to me, so I watched it and really love the gallow humor and the sadness of always being removed from your family and loved ones... able to observe, but never partake in any of their sorrows or triumphs. Now on that show, the main character is killed by a flying Russian toilet seat that utterly destroyed her. In THE LOVELY BONES - the lead character that is telling us this story is the raped and murdered spirit of a teenage girl, telling us the story from Heaven, which is a very personal Heaven... where she can follow the inept detective work, her family surviving and the murderer and rapist as his life continues.

Now - Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Phillipa Boyens apparently are not officially attached yet, but according to Variety it does look like it could very well be the follow-up film after KING KONG. Personally - this is great in my book. I absolutely love HEAVENLY CREATURES to death and having them visit material possibly more macabre than that, that also has magic and whimsy... well it warms my heart. If you wish to know more about the story... click on the book - it'll take you to the Amazon page which has around 1446 reviews of the book. Seems a lot of people liked it!
