Fair SCOOBY DOO 2 review by Vance 454

Hey folks, Harry here... I'm on the record as being an unabashed Scooby Doo lover... Hell, my nephew loves Scooby Doo and in recommending things to parents and folks that take kids to theaters for entertainment... Personally, I'd like to recommend something. Rather than dropping whatever the theatrical bill it is to see yet another dreadful Live Action telling of the classic animated Saturday Morning toon... Instead pick up Season 1 & 2 of SCOOBY DOO on DVD, so the kids have access to the originals... for the duration of their kidhoods. When you factor in overpriced theatrical candy and drinks... this is the better deal, I just scored it for my nephew and he loves it!

Hey Harry and Mori! I hope this is of some help...

(Long time, first time...)

I got a chance to see Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed today--and while I know it's a little late to send in info about a screener, I figured I would anyway because I never get a chance to see these type of things, and I wanted to help you guys out.

Anywho, the movie is about what you'd expect: a kiddie-ish movie in the same tone as the original (just about), with some new gags and a few new characters. Seth Green does a good job being... well, himself, while Alicia Silverstone doesn't really stand out too much either. The real shiners (as you would have guessed) are Mathew Lillard as Shaggy and Scooby Doo. They are what make these movies. Several times I found myself laughing pretty hard at this would be "kiddie movie".

The one thing that really got to me was the "adult" references. While I'm not trying to be a spoiled sport here (I'm only 20), this is going to be viewed as a child's movie--and things like that shouldn't be in there. For example, at the beginning of the movie Shaggy, Scooby and the gang are attending the grand opening of a museum dedicated to them. Each group member has their own little "fan club"--and when Shaggy gets out of the limo, he sniffs around when this cloud of smoke hits him and notices a bunch of (obvious) pot heads. Not TOO bad there... but obvious. There's another scene where Shag and Scoob need to "sneak out", so they try and convince the rest of the gang that Scoob has rabies and needs to go to the doctor. Well, Shaggy puts a bunch of whipped cream in Scoob's mouth, and then gets some for himself. However, instead of getting some cream, he actually takes a whip-it! I couldn't believe I saw it.

Well, besides my qualm with the references, this is an overall cute film. Not horrible, not awesome either. Again, I hope this is of some help. I don't care what you call me if you do decide to post this--but call me vance454 so my friends know who I am. :-)

Regards,
