A SHAUN OF THE DEAD Review For You, Too!!

Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...

Now, this is the zomromcom I can’t wait to see. This one’s not a remake of Romero’s films, but it is set firmly in the same universe, and I can’t wait to take a peek. It’s already started screening to people in the UK, and here’s an early response...

Hi Harry

Max Caddyshack here. I've noticed the interest in Shaun of the Dead on your great site and was lucky enough to catch a screening of it on Tuesday evening. It is out in the UK on 9th April - don't know US date yet. I'm by no means a Zombie film fan but was pleasantly surprised how funny and well made this was on what must have been a small budget.

The lead actor/writer Simon Pegg and director Edgar Wright were there and told a packed audience their aim to combine Zombies, romance and comedy and these guys pulled it off. The director also mentioned the music cue from Dawn of the Dead that is used at the end of the film This is 28 Days Later meets The Office. In fact there is a bit of a dig at 28 Days Later with a sly reference to raging monkeys not being the cause of the Zombies. 28 Days Later for me was ok, but in my view went downhill when they got to the house with the soldiers. It also reminded me of the early Peter Jackson stuff like Bad Taste and Braindead which had Monty Python influences.

The cast will be unknown to most of you in the US, but many will recognise Bill Nighy from Underworld and the washed out rocker from Love Actually.

The make up and gore effects are great, inparticular when one unlucky victim is sucked into a mass of Zombies and they start eating his stomach. The scene when the actors imitate Zombies to try and slip away is brilliant. Another great scene is when they use vinyl records as weapons and debate whether to throw Prince or Dire Straits - they make the right decision and use Brothers in Arms.

Hopefully many of you will get the British humour and to sum this film up is a film about blokes down the pub (pubs are a big part of this film) made by blokes who drink in pubs.

All the best

Max Caddyshack

I also just got this letter in:

Hello

Just a quick one. Got my copy of UK's HOTDOG magazine today, complete with interviews with Simon Pegg and the director.

News is that they are already planning a sequel if the first film is as successful as they hope.

The title?
