Variety and The Hollywood Reporter report Tuesday morning that CBS has officially ordered a fifth season of “The Amazing Race.” The new edition is expected to shoot in January for spring or summer airing.
The same story reports that “Big Brother” has been renewed for next summer, but Herc could have sworn he read in Entertainment Weekly a few weeks ago that CBS had already renewed “Brother” through 2007. Huh!
Another story in The Hollywood Reporter and Variety tells of a major last-minute shakeup of Fox’s fall schedule. “The OC,” introduced as a Tuesday show this summer but long slated for a 9 p.m. Thursday slot come October, has been moved to Wednesday at 9 p.m., where it will have to duke it out with “The Bachelor,” “The West Wing,” “Angel,” “The King of Queens” and “Jake 2.0.”
“Bernie Mac,” which WAS to get Wednesdays at 9 p.m., now gets the much-coveted post-“Simpsons” slot, Sundays at 8:30 p.m. “The Ortegas,” Fox’s poorly reviewed Cheech Marin sitcom, had been earmarked for that slot, but has now been booted to midseason.
