It ain't DO NOT GO GENTLY - it is DO NOT GO GENTLE... sheesh

Earlier this week, Michael Fleming announced that Revolution Pictures was set to make DO NOT GO GENTLY with Michael Bay. Seems that just about everyone has picked up this story, but the one thing they all have wrong is the title. It is called DO NOT GO GENTLE, but since when do film writers need to have poetry on the mind. For those that don't know, the title is taken from the first line & title of Dylan Thomas' classic poem "Do Not Go Gentle Into that Good Night."

I also found it vaguely odd that nobody seemed to remember that this has been a project floating around since... well, I've been tracking it and writing about it since 1997. In fact, the very first story that Moriarty contacted me about was DO NOT GO GENTLE. The project used to be over at Warner Brothers and attached to Sean Connery's FOUNTAINBRIDGE FILMS. The big stir back six years ago was that there were visual effects tests going on that would have a Computer de-age Connery for part of the film all the way back to his GOLDFINGER era youth.

The project has transformed a bit since then. Now it's a tale about an scientist whose field of expertise is the moon. Sadly, nobody particularly is interested in the moon anymore. He's relegated to being a lecturer at the Smithsonian and continuing to pour over the few samples that were brought back. Ultimately the tale is a film about unrealized dreams, late love in life and passions that never die. Can Michael Bay make this film? Is Connery still attached? Does it still incorporate the visual effects stunt fountain of youth trick for it's star? We'll find out as the production continues. Meanwhile... for the sake of bringing a bit of culture to your lives today... Here's Dylan Thomas' poem... enjoy...

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
